We had a floor mounted radiant heater in our living room. The heater's pilot light would not stay lit. Signs of a faulty thermal coupler. This happened in November 2021. I had made several calls to other heating and cooling businesses with no success. No one wanted to fix my under floor heater because it meant crawling under the house. Not fun at all, I get it. But for those of you that live in Crestline you know it can be a cold place in the winter time. So I bought an electric heater and decided to wait until spring until I could find somebody who would actually respond or help me. Three months of over $300 power bills... Told me I made a mistake. In March I found Wicks. Mike picked up immediately and within hours his service technician was inspecting my heater. They did charge me a fee to come and quote, However it was applied to the final Invoice. I was quoted $600 to fix the existing heater. Or around 1200 for a new wall-mounted furnace. Yesterday Raul and Manny from wicks finished the install of my new furnace. They removed the old floor heater And covered the open hole that was there with a high-quality plywood. Run away from this company as fast as you can! I am revising my initial review because I wrote the 1st review before the work was completed. Now that the work is complete- I still don't have air conditioning and all that happened was Wick's ripped me off for $7,000!!! First of all, I must say I should have read the reviews and believed all of the negative reviews about this company because every negative review was absolutely spot on. The secretary who answers the phone is totally delightful and helpful but she is fighting an uphill battle that unfortunately she's never going to win as long as Mike is at the helm. When I initially called Wick's for an estimate on adding an A/C unit onto my existing heating system, Mike came out to look at the job. He told me that he was the one who initially put in the heat system for the previous owner and so he knew exactly what to do. I went on to explain to him that 2 out of the 3 bedrooms were totally freezing in the winter and I needed the heat capability to be increased for those rooms along with adding A/C. I also stated that the only rooms I really cared about cooling were the three bedrooms. Mike gave me an extremely high quote but I couldn't get a quote from any other nearby companies because they were so busy. So I decided to go with Wick's at their high price and get it done along with fixing my horrendously bad heating system. Mike installed the new A/C system in one morning (demanding full payment on the spot) and said he would schedule fixing the heating problem at a later date. I contacted his office the next day to tell them the A/C wasn't cooling the bedrooms at all - they were still like cook ovens and the only thing it was cooling was the downstairs living areas. So Mike said he would come back and look at what was going on. When he came and looked at things he would not talk to me. The only thing he said was "I looked up this unit in my files and I did NOT put this system in originally". Then he preceded to tell me that I never told him that I was concerned mostly about cooling the bedrooms... total lie or he has zero memory. Mike is a man of few words- but when he does talk its with sheer contempt in his voice. I asked him to explain to me before he left what his solution would be and he would not discuss it or say anything - all he did was bark repeatedly "I will write it up and send it to you". That's not how I do business... I want to discuss solutions and make sure my expectations are understood. So I get a quote for another $2,000 to fix the issue!!!! If I had known in the first place that he wanted $9,000 to add A/C onto my existing system I would have said absolutely not. Now I paid $7,000 for a system that doesn't work and my heat problem was never addressed either. Mike treated me like I was a total moron (I grew up in a family that owned an HVAC company) and my stomach went into cramping knots every time that I thought about talking to him. The workmanship was so shoddy that when I went down into the crawl space under the house, it was blowing cold air from joints in the ductwork that were not properly sealed. Wick's Heating WE DO NOT RECOMMEND! If you don't want to read the documentation below, suffice it to say LACK of COMMUNICATION, LACK of FULL DISCLOSURE of FEES and OVERALL VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. We had a tree fall on our roof causing damage to the roof and chimney. The roofer and the contractor that re-built the exterior of the chimney were AWESOME. Then came Wick's. What a nightmare. 1. Contacted Wick's. Mike said he would go out and give an estimate. NO MENTION there was a $119.00 charge. 2. Texted an estimate stating it would be around $980.00 installed, including spark arrestor. 3. Requested a written proposal. Upon receipt discovered the $119.00 charge. But, if we went with his company, that would be applied to the final bill. 4. At that point the estimate was from $980.00 to $1260.00. Despite several emails asking what would cause the higher charge, no responses, until finally received an email saying. "yes the estimate is around $990.00 total give or take little each way". OH, and the labor is $119.00 p/hr, p/person and a trip charge $30.00 every visit. 5. Again, several emails requesting an explanation as to what would cause the higher price. NO RESPONSE 6. Final invoice comes ~ $1236.00, minus the $500.00 deposit for a total of $736.00 due. Yes, the $119.00 estimate fee was still on the invoice. 7. Again, sent emails stating the "give a little each way" was more than just a little. 8. The labor alone was $357.00 + $60.00 for two trips to the property. So much for the initial $980.00 installed. Only response was he said he'd given the estimate. 9. Requested $119.00 be removed per their initial proposal to be applied to the final invoice and copied where it was stated on the invoice. When a corrected invoice was sent we would pay immediately. This was a response, finally, "the estimate and it was a estimate is very clear i will go take it off tomorrow 10. Again, I responded TY, I will send a check out immediately upon receipt of the corrected invoice. Next day we receive this email "i will take the top off your chimney today" 11. Of course I thought he meant he would take the $119.00 charge, BUT NO, he was going to remove the top off our chimney! Who does business like that? 12. I called, had to give him our information again, he finally took the $119.00 off and sent a corrected invoice. 13. But, wait, it isn't over yet. Went right to the post office that day and advised I mailed the check AND then a few weeks later we get a PAST DUE notice with a $25.00 late fee. Called and told him to check his post office box & cash the check. 14. Then I get an invoice in the mail marked in red PAST DUE on the outside of the envelope. He told me just to throw that away. AND, again the $119.00 is still on this invoice. SAVE YOURSELF THE FRUSTRATION ~ always read the reviews and with as many "unhappy" reviews Wick's has, you will be wise to go elsewhere. read more

Don't even consider using this company unless you enjoy having people schedule appointments and not showing up. We gave him the benefit of the doubt with each excuse he had but after three no-shows, we fired him. Here is an example of what we went through. I think the only excuse we didn't get was that the dog ate the work order. After receiving the initial estimate for services it has been nothing but a nightmare in getting this organization to perform on its various commitments. On 9/16/2020 they received the signed contract for services. On the same day, owner Mike Smith committed to meeting our contractor on 9/18/20 to review Wicks needs for the installation per the contract. He also committed to starting the work on 9/25/2020. Not only did Mike not show up for both of these events, he nor anyone from Wicks ever reached out to anyone to say he wouldn't be showing up and when he was contacted via text and voice mail on 9/18/20 asking why he didn't show or reach out to anyone, he simply ignored the messages. On 9/23/2020, Wicks confirmed via email that our installation was scheduled for 9/25/2020 so we arranged to have someone there to give him access. Wicks never showed nor ever reached out to anyone stating they would not be showing up to perform the promised services. On 9/28/2020 Mike Smith was finally reached by me and I was told by Mike he would be doing the work on 10/2/2020. Our contractor also reached out to Mike two days later to verify Wicks would be there on 10/2/2020 and Mike confirmed they would. But once again, Wicks not only failed to show up, they never reached out to anyone to state they wouldn't be showing up. In the mess of all this, the communication and organization of Wicks has been sub-par if I'm being generous. In each and every case we have had to reach out to them to find out what is going on. Not once had Wicks reached out to us. After having this experience with Wicks, it was discovered this is common practice for this organization, including records on file with the Better Business Bureau, who will be informed of this experience as well. I had two wall heaters installed. The installers did a bit of a messy job on the cosmetic side of installation . One of the heaters would not stay lit and after several different visits and calls they finally got it working. It took then several attempts over several months to get the second wall heater to stay lit but they did get it done . I did however have to keep calling them to get them to return my calls . read more

I have worked with this company on two occasions for my apartments. On the first occasion, the technician was able to repair the fireplace heater in a timely manner and was paid without a problem. The second time the company was called out I received an invoice for $119 for their diagnostic which was fine, so long as the technical information would be shared. Despite doing business with them before I was stonewalled and told the invoice needed to be paid first. Then upon paying the invoice, I had to call multiple times to get the information I needed, which turned out to be erroneous. What's more, I had Obe Sons Heating and Air confirm the erroneous diagnostic. Obe took over the job with care and precision. To potential customers, the secretary at Wicks will answer your call promptly, she will assign a technician BUT the cost for the diagnostic will be higher than industry standards and you will not receive technical information. Their priority IS NOT to educate the customer but to SCARE the customer into blindly paying for unnecessary repairs. Search through other comments and you will see. There were so many problems, including cutting in my original wood walls before asking me, putting an outlet in the wrong place after I asked them not to cut any more holes before we talked, and then charging me when I wanted them to fix it. I called this morning at 8:30am about my heater making lots of noise and shaking the house. The nice lady on the phone was able to schedule me for a 2pm-4pm window for a tech to come over and investigate the issue. The techs arrived promptly at 3pm to investigate the issue. After about 15 minutes the problem was traced to a faulty motor. The charge to replace the motor and make sure the heater is functioning flawlessly was $340. They were completely done within an hour. Will definitely use them in the summer when my A/C stops working... ;-) read more

I called them 3 months ago. In order to fix our heating system, and add an additional register. They promised to stop by soon. They started rescheduling, first. On one scheduled meeting Mike, tech, never showed up and never called back and never apologized for that missed appointment by him. They charge to view the system. Mike went twice to check the system charged each time $30. Send a contract/agreement to us to be signed. In the end after driving us crazy with entire winter by rescheduling, visits, no-show, Mike refused to do the work due to liability. Honestly, I feel like the guy who runs this place is a crook. We purchased a home 2 years ago and it had working AC great on the bottom two floors. The top floor where our babies slept didn't have AC. We asked for AC just on the top floor where the bedrooms were. They convinced us to replaced the entire system with a new one for the whole house, and it never worked on the top floor from day 1. They also had us pay cash over $8,500 up front. After about 10 phone calls to have them come fix it they showed up once (late) and said for another $1k they would re-route the unit upstairs. After 4 more calls to follow up since they never do, he lied on the phone and said a part was on order and he was just waiting for it to arrive. Never heard again and that was now about 10 months ago. If I could give a negative star I would. HORRIBLE WORK and HORRIBLE SERVICE. I contacted this company for a quote for fireplace installation. Spoke to numerous companies and had three or four come to the home for a quote and inspection. The gentleman seemed friendly enough and about as informative as the other quotes. Went with another company due to quality and selection of product more than price. Now I am being harassed and threatened to pay for a visitation to my home for a quote. I never signed an agreement to pay for the visitation, nor was I told there would be a fee. What is comical is that all of the other quotes came from further distances and did not attempt to collect payment for a quote. Very unprofessional. I work in a an industry where I meet with clients, both at their homes and in my office and I have never charged a single fee unless services are rendered. Absolutely terrible service. By a referral from a neighbor I trusted to try Wick's Heating & Air Conditioning (of Rim Forest) for my senior Mother without thinking to check the terrible reviews that already existed online... My mother needed an existing thermostat to be connected. Their service techs came out, hooked it up and checked the new wall heater. In doing that, it was discovered that the fan on the heater was not working (optional issue) but I said please replace it. Some time went by before they could get the part to replace, and during that time the thermostat that they connected was not working properly. My mother suffered a very cold winter as a result. They finally came back to install the replacement part and recheck their work on the malfunctioning thermostat. I paid for a second service charge for a bill that totaled over $800! After this, the thermostat continued to not work, which I requested them to come back and check. They found a loose wire which they tightened up. I was told that this small fix would be part of my installation bill. Now it has been 3 years and they are suddenly sending me Past Due bills with fees and when my elderly mother called them they were rude and threatening her with collections. I can't believe how unprofessional this company is and no wonder they have a big F on the BBB.org website... ALWAYS CHECK REVIEWS BEFORE YOU HIRE ANYONE. Shame on Wick's. :( read more

Wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy I let them know I would be home on Friday they came on a Thursday someone called early in the morning but the number came up as unknown number so I didn't answer they didn't leave a message so I didn't answer when they called again still an unknown number no message then another unknown call came in the evening and a message was left saying they were leaving but would come back Friday. I called them back at the 909 number that I originally called them at because the Message had no call back number just unknown number I spoke with them they said they would come Friday. Called Wicks Heating & A/C in Rim Forest cause our brand new heater they installed did not work. So he comes over, lights the pilot light and rushes out of there while I to telling him we already did that and it still didn't work. He said must be windy. We never had that problem before. We were charged $110. Of course it still didn't work. So he comes back and says had to do something else, clean the coils I think, and is now charging $269. When we questioned the bill all they said was we don't understand how the business works. Yea the rip off business. The very next day we get a bill via email with $50 added for interest for overdue bill when we got it only a few days ago and we did call them right away. Mike showed up with a great attitude and a positive approach to our situation. I got 5 bids - the only one that was strategic about my problem (3rd/top floor overheating in both winter and summer). They recommended an exhaust/whole house fan for the top level along with one, (not two AC units) for my home. I had specifically asked other HVAC companies if they could do the same and none could figure out how. One even said - I'd like to know how they will do that! Well they did and I have no attic! Well they found a space and it's totally hidden. What a project - this was definitely not the easiest path to be sure - but it works so incredibly well and it was quite efficient. Because of the house fan, I do not run the AC nearly as much as I would need to resulting in lower electric bills. I chose them because their plan was so strategic but it was truely proven itself out. I am so thrilled with the result! Also - I got a new heater at the same time as well. I spoke with Mike and set up an estimate. They brought a dog with them for the estimate and let him walk through the house. ( I gave them a door code because I couldn't wait all day and they couldn't provide a time) After agreeing to a price and set a day for the work, they never showed up. Set another day a week later and again they never showed up. No calls to reschedule just failed to show up. Thrifty Plumbing and Heating have been great but I was in a hurry and they were busy due to upcoming holidays. I'm a General Contractor and state Construction Inspector and work with Contractors and Subcontractors everyday. Wicks is a Company I reccomend everybody avoid. read more

I had 4 HVAC company's come out to our place in Lake Arrowhead to look at how we could cool off the upstairs bedrooms and loft during those warm summers days. Wick's is the only one that had a solution, with Mike's experience he was able to see how the HVAC was designed in the home for heat and not air. So he installed house exhaust fans in the loft to pull the warm air out of the house and they were able to was pull it off in a timely matter.... right before all the family arrived for a big fun weekend at the lake! Here's the good and bad of this review.AC goes out on a hot Sunday afternoon.Old Republic Home Warranty assigns Wick's .I leave a voice mail on Sun. stating that we'll be leaving Wed. morning in case they are super busy.Get a text from Mike early Mon. morning saying they'll come by today.I reply "great,about what time?"No response for hours so we head out for a little bit.We come home to a Wicks truck parked out front but no one in sight.Just then the tech( Raul) exits our home (HUH?)With zero attempt to contact us to set up an appointment time or even a phone call to say he was at the front door,he took it upon himself to check the door unlocked and came in past our 2 barking dogs while ignoring the posted security system signs. The good: Wicks showed up in less then 24 hrs. and a faulty AC capacitor was replaced in just minutes.The bad:no appointment window was set,no attempt to contact us once on sight,tech entered our home without permission.Legal arguments aside,what a stupid thing to do.The tech could have caught my wife getting out of the shower or set off the alarm or been bitten by our dogs or even accused of theft.Disregarding the NRA sticker in front window was also a bad idea.Anyone else notice that Mike from Wicks usually only responds to good reviews.Says alot about this business.Will not use again and do not recommend Wick's. read more

Thank you Wicks, for coming out quickly. I had an issue caused by the power company working on the poles. When they restored power, 2 lines were touching causing my furnace and other electronics to burn out. Once they agreed to cover the costs of my furnace, I called Wicks and explained I was without any type of heat source, since I don't have a fire place, and had 4 small kids. We are expecting snow tonight. Greg (I think) sent someone out within an hour, who quickly replaced the damaged transformer in the unit. Thank you for coming quickly once I explained my urgency, and getting the furnace running again. My kiddos and I appreciate it!!! read more

10/06/2016 Thursday at 3:00 pm. All in all I am very satisfied with Wick's Heating and A/C. Raul arrived within 45 minutes of my initial call. The van was professional with the name Wick's Heating printed on the side. The van was clean and the inside appeared stocked and organized. Raul was wearing a shirt that also said Wick's Heating. He was clean, courteous, intelligent and eager to help The error codes on the inside panel indicated "Pressure switch stuck open" He removed it, checked it, cleaned it, before deciding it needed to be replaced. There was no exact match on hand in the van. There were 2 pressure switches (redundancy) on the heater, he was able to bypass the bad one so the heater would cycle on and off with the thermostat. The next day Mike the owner called to install the new switch, but that day was not good for us. Monday Raul returned and installed the new switch and everything works normally. We were very happy to have Raul come into our home and help us. Wick's will be my first call the next time my heater has any problems. read more

The only thing good I can say about Wicks... they have nice trucks. Last week I had an appointment for a general service of my furnace. I waited 3 hours and no one called with an update and the service rep never showed up. I called the office, no answers??? Later in the day "Mike" called and left a message. He proudly told me he was at my home at 2:30 and left a card in the door. I double checked my door, no card. I checked my neighbors and at 26286 there was his card. Problem is I live at 26284. Aside from the fact Mike has poor follow thru skills, he can't read numbers. As of today no one called with follow up to see what happened or offer to reschedule. It all worked out Thrifty Heating came out yesterday and the service was wonderful. BTW I to have seen an older "gentleman" driving recklessly up on the mountain roads in a fancy Wicks truck. read more

Contracted this company to install a simple fireplace insert for a client after she bought her home in the mountains. Paid $3000 and 4 months later she is still waiting for the fireplace to be installed. They have rescheduled 3 times. Mike, the main technician there, is the absolute worst and is very rude. Not helpful AT ALL if you ask him about the products or scope of work, he treats you as if you are dumb. Secretary that works in the office is absolutely clueless.
