Old-timey poster inside the location.

I'll admit it, Wienerschnitzel: You made me a fan. Back in California, the local outlet was hands-down bad but here in TX you're a star. I've been here three times, each time close to the opening, and have been impressed each time. The chili dogs, corn dogs, and fries have always been hot and fresh, always the winning point for fast food. The service is fast and pleasant. Ambiance is non-existent as there are no chairs inside and 3-4 tables outside. (I believe it used to be a Sonic, and it shows.) Only cautionary note I can give is that there is NO shade for the tables, you may end up eating in the hot Texas sun if you don't like eating in your car! This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

Your standard state fair hot dog. We've been to this location via drive thru once or twice before and it's always been pretty decent. This time around it was a little bit slower, waiting quite a while on the three cars in front of us, and there seems to have been some technical issues with the audio as we had to repeat ourselves several times. It looked like there was one girl running both the drive thru and the entirety of the store, so we did not blame her in the slightest for the wait as she was doing her absolute best. We ordered the #4 Chili Dog and Corndog Combo with a Lemonade, and a Polish Sandwich. The Fries from the combo were top notch and we ended up devouring them before I could get a picture. They were salty and right in that sweet spot between crunchy and soft. The Lemonade wasn't as good, tasting a little more like Sprite than Lemonade, but it still had enough Lemonade flavor mixed in there to ID that it was in fact supposed to be Lemonade. The corndog tasted like your typical corn dog that you'd get from a fair, and the Chili Dog was also pretty good with that standard low end chili that isn't the best but you still enjoy. The bun wasn't soggy despite all of the Chili, but I do wish I'd upgraded to a 100% beef hotdog because it would have made it taste that much better. The Polish sandwich is probably one of the safest and best options you can pick as it's on the larger side, filling, and has a good mix of spices in the sausage but doesn't overbear the tastebuds. Though I'm not typically a hot dog fan, I have enjoyed what I've tried from Wienerschnitzel. It is on the greasier side, so I do have to take medicine as my stomach is on the more sensitive side, but if you're craving a decent hot dog for lunch, I'd recommend swinging by to grab a couple.

This is a nice place for a hotdogs or chill dog. This place reminds me of home. I would eat this place in Cali all the time. This location seems to fairly new. Looks nice and looks pretty clean. The staff that took my order and assisted me was so polite and professional. Now to the food. The hot dog, it was good. Nice beef hotdog. Yes you have that option for people who don't eat pork. Buns where nice and fresh, very soft. I like that there chill has a nice consistency for hotdogs. And it has good flavor. The chill cheese fries are good as well. Using the chill from the hotdogs on the nice thin fries makes it delicious. The fries were seasoned pretty well simple I believe with a little salt. They were very very good. I also had a watermelon lemonade. It was pretty good. I probably should have asked for easy ice instead of no ice. It was made well. I'll make sure I come back here from time to time.

Nice place. Chili cheese dogs are between Good to bad. Just how does a #1 go from 7.79 to 9.59. Especially when I made it clear only what comes with the #1 for that price. Scratch this place. Hate when restaurants add something to make the price go up with out telling you.

It's been a few years since I've been by; so, I was truly looking forward to getting something. I chose The Brat & tots (plain). I was very happy with my choice. The gentleman greeted me immediately. I thought it would take me a minute, but, as I stated, I chose The Brat immediately. I'm a little high strung from my age, so people kinda chuckle. It's cute. I make me smile. They put the perfect amount of mustard on it too! See the photos, but it comes covered with cabbage & crispy fried onions. It is amazing. I was able to get a whole 1/3 of it eaten before my body shut down. Tot wise, they were hot & perfectly fried! I like to dip mine in ketchup, but they offer you various other dips as well. So, I got ranch cuz, um, of course. Also, I really like their soda brand. I can't remember it, but it's a dia de los muertos skull for the logo, but I love their roots beer, which was my beverage of choice today. It's really a nice little place to just come in & sit & enjoy a yummy hotdog alone, or with family/friends.

My partner and I went on a Sunday morning just after 11am and there were already people coming in to eat. It's popular for a reason! I've eaten here a few times and had a very consistently good time, but this review will be about my most recent visit. We visited on a rainy day, but luckily we were able to snag one of the inside tables, we ordered at the counter and our orders arrived very quickly. I got the Ratchet dog which is a beef dog with queso, hot Cheetos and fried jalapeños. Dogfather uses quality dogs and buns for all of their gourmet dogs. I found the Ratchet to be meaty, salty with just right amount of spice from the jalapeños. My partner got the Pop it like it's hot, but removed the jalapeños. This was good but lacking a bit of flavor, however she and I both agreed that was on her for taking the jalapeños off the dog. Both dogs were extremely tasty, and we devoured both. I also got an order of curly fries loaded with their chili and cheese. For me, these did not have to go as HARD as they did. The chili they are using at Dogfather is seriously good, with a slight tang and a good amount of spice. It thrills but does not take away from your meal with too much heat. Very tasty. My only feedback is that Dogfather needs a larger space! There's a good size outside seating area, but for times like today when it's raining people need some coverage. They're doing it right and the crowds want to come! As I have stated this is a local favorite. If you live nearby, make it a regular spot. If you live in San Antonio, do yourself a favor and make a trip over at least sometimes. If you like hot dogs you won't go wrong.

As soon as the tour was over we walked back to the corner of W. Crockett and N. Presa to give them a try. Our tour guide was right, these are the best hotdogs in San Antonio. Bacon wrapped with a multitude of options for toppings, paired with a toasted bun, we literally sacrificed our keto diet on these. 100% recommend. We had two of the bacon wrapped with ketchup and mustard, and shared an everything (ketchup, mustard, mayo, and jalapeños). I can't decide which is better so you will need to give them both a try as well. Great location. Nice easy walk from the Alamo, and they are open late to give you the snack you need while doing a historic tour or of the city or spending a night out on the Riverwalk. I also have to give the guys working the stand a compliment, they were fast regardless of the line, and happy to be giving the customers a great experience. Bottom line, this hotdog stand is unlike any other I've been to (and I'm from the New York area - hot dog stand capital of the world). Go give them a try!

FIRST TIME VISIT!…read more Woohoo! Been looking for chili cheese fries and happened upon a review for this place boasting fries with a homemade chili so we HAD TO stop in tonight. THE LOCATION: on the very end of a string of businesses in a strip mall that I've never been in before, so that was cool. Lots of parking, that'll never be an issue. And right off the 410. THE MENU: Burgers, dogs, Mexi-style munchies and a variety of frozen dessert-type items like shakes, frozen fruit concoctions and Italian ice. THE STAFF: I wasn't overwhelmed with a warm welcome and smiles, at least from the guys. Lol! They should really work on that. There was a sweet gal who ran out our food orders and she was great. THE FOOD: I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich deluxe with tots and a sweet tea. The grilled chicken was juicy and cooked well and the bun was lovely, slightly sweet and toasted. Overall, the sandwich could've used more flavor, like a creamy bbq spread and cheddar instead of the "Swiss" cheese that tasted more like American cheese. But overall, 7/10. The tots were extra crispy and the guy who took my order didn't take heed to my request for ranch. I was too lazy to get up again so I settled for ketchup. The sweet tea was nicely sweet and fresh, I'll be sipping this in my dreams. The hubby ordered the bacon cheeseburger with chili cheese fries and an Oreo cookie shake. The burger looked good and he ate it quick, so there's that. This guy can EAT so it surprised us both when he slowed down fast after eating that burger. Lol! He kept saying how filling it was, but then he also killed a large shake before the food arrived, so there's that. He ate most of his chili cheese fries, leaving me a few bites to sample. Not bad. I order a Coco Haven frozen dessert to go and omg is this thing delightful! Vanilla ice cream and coconut Italian ice (?) with a blue snow cone-like syrup drizzled throughout. I loved the texture of what I believed to be Italian ice. Smooth and flaky, a perfect icy dessert. OVERALL: decent eatery, the hubby said we can go back (LOL!) Shockerrrrr! But I recommend the staff tries harder to make customers feel welcomed and comfortable. The next visit will be telling.

I wish they had a drive-through so I can try all their breakfast burritos in the morning. I just can't get motivated sometimes. 2/5 stars I came…read morehere around 10:00 p.m. on a Sunday, about an hour before closing. There was no line, only a few people sitting at the bar, so I wasn't expecting a long wait. The first issue was using the InKind app. We spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out how to use it because ordering ahead wasn't working, and none of the employees seemed familiar with the process. One employee was patient, friendly, and genuinely tried to help us figure it out, which I appreciated. After finally placing our order, we were told it would take about 15 minutes. Instead, we waited roughly 40 minutes, and didn't receive our food until 11:00 p.m., right at closing. I understand we came during the last hour before closing, which is why I specifically asked if we had enough time. If the kitchen was backed up or our order was going to take 40+ minutes that late in the evening, I would have completely understood. I just wish we had been told that up front instead of being quoted 15 minutes. By the time we received our food, it was closing time. Thankfully we ordered it to go, because if we'd planned to eat there, we wouldn't have had the opportunity. When our food was finally ready, the bag was already ripping because something inside had leaked. The employee noticed right away, grabbed two new bags, and repacked everything, which I appreciated. We ordered quite a bit to sample the menu: the Cali Chick (lettuce wrapped), Hot Chick, Buff Chick, Little Mule, Totchos, onion strings, sweet potato fries, and a Teriyaki Chicken Caesar Wrap (which we haven't tried yet, so I can't comment on that one). Unfortunately, the food we did eat was very disappointing. The lettuce-wrapped Cali Chick was a mess--the lettuce was so wilted it couldn't even function as a wrap. The onion strings, Totchos, and sweet potato fries had all lost their crispness by the time we got them, and everything was lukewarm or cold. The Little Mule ended up being our favorite burger, while the Hot Chick definitely delivered on the spice. Ironically, the sweet potato fries were my favorite side, even though they came in the smallest portion. Our total was over $100 before the InKind discount, and I honestly wouldn't pay full price for this meal. The quality just didn't match the price. I don't know if the kitchen was short-staffed or if something else was going on that night, but waiting 40 minutes after being quoted 15 minutes--especially with almost no one else ordering--only to receive cold, soggy food was incredibly disappointing. I do want to give credit to the employee who helped us. He was polite, apologized several times for the delay, and even repacked our order when he noticed the leaking bag. Unfortunately, the overall experience and food quality just didn't live up to the price. Based on this visit, I couldn't justify spending over $100 for the experience we received. I hope this was just an off night, but it was disappointing enough that I felt it deserved a 2-star review.
