Stopped by here for a quick lunch. Service was nice enough, we went through the drive thru so not much interaction but what we were surprised by was how fast it took to get the food. We got the food before we even paid haha. I got discouraged thinking it had been sitting there but was shocked that everything seemed fresh. It was actually so hot we had to wait to eat it. As far as fast food goes, this place isn't bad. Nothing to rave about but we enjoyed it as a once a year type meal. Not a huge fan of the hush puppies or coleslaw but loved everything else. If I could get them to change anything, it would be their malt vinegar. It had zero taste which shocked me because vinegar is normally pungent. read more

This was my first time to get a root beer float at A&W. I also got the chili hotdog but I do not have a picture of it. The hotdog was OK. Nothing that would make me want to order again. The chili was a little too heavy for me and a little too much spice. I was looking more like for something that like sonic serves but that's OK. This just was not my cup of tea but the piece of fish that I got was amazing. It was crunchy and hit all the right spot. It was delicious. The root beer float just finished it. Note: This is a combo A&W / Long John Silvers, and I only ate from the LJS portion of the menu. Does anyone still expect much of anything from LJS? The chain's been in a long-term decline for decades and it's a flip of the coin if you'll get anything fresh. I suppose I split the difference on this visit as they were OUT of cod, which really is the best thing to eat on the menu since they have to make it fresh. All they had was their usual diamond-shaped fish fillets, which arrived lukewarm along with warm-ish hush puppies. Service was friendly-ish but lackluster, like the food. On the plus side, the root beer tastes exactly like it should: alive, zippy, and cold if you throw enough ice cubes at it. Average it out, I'd call it a 2.5 star experience. Have to round it up to a three for Yelp, though. I might try this place again, see which side of the coin I get. This place scores a 3 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Went for a late night Memorial Day craving & had to point out the service I received. I ordered at 8:40pm on Memorial Day (2022) and Stella was overly amazing (name on receipt- review is about woman in glasses who I'm assuming is Stella) She was prompt, friendly and even made sure our drink tasted good while waiting on our food in the drive thru. We just left Popeyes at the Rim for my husband and got the same awful service there- so thought I would go out of my way to express how I appreciate good service even when it's late on a holiday. This visit (12:30 6/22/2021) is more singularly disappointing because the Long John Silver that A & W shares space with on I-10 and DeZavala in San Antonio has been my favorite for years. Not necessarily for service but, for food. I've stayed a fan of LJS for decades despite the steep decline in recent years. Today, my experience with the apparent man in charge (about 5' 10"--dirty blond hair with full beard) was negative immediately. He was curt, sarcastic and rude in behavior and speech. I was required to complete 2 credit card transactions because "half your order is to-go". I wasn't able to use the chip--so I slid the card. He repeatedly said I was doing it wrong and when I tried for a second time (on reflex) to use the screen as touch screen--he said sarcastically "well, it didn't work the first time--so I guess it won't work THIS time--will it?" When we got the food--he interrupted the young man who was helping me--saying the order was correct. I pointed out we were missing a piece. He shrugged and the other man fixed the order. On the way out--we gathered our leftovers and tidied our table--but, I got a call from my father (from California). We didn't throw away our refuse. Next thing--the man yelled at my wife and I that we need to pick up our stuff and said REPEATEDLY "This is a self service restaurant--you need to pick your stuff up and throw it out!!!!" On the way out (while on the phone) I noticed a couple of other tables that had not been bussed yet. We are Native American/Hispanic customers. Both retired teachers. I'm a disabled veteran. I can't remember this kind of treatment in years. Unkind--and unbecoming of the Long John Silver franchise. I told the man I'd write him up--and he said "Go ahead--I don't care!!" Wish could rate Long John Silver's food & service as a negative 5 stars. Food made us sick during the night and still sick this morning. Family member picked up dinner there last night--2 pc fish meal with fries, coleslaw & diet A&W root beer and an order of an A&W cheeseburger with fries. They again said they had no cod like during our last two visits several months ago. (Girl at window was evasive when asked her if just ran out today or no longer on their menu. Noticed cod no longer on this location's on-line order menu, despite still on the company's website menu. Finally found out in return visit from manager they haven't been able to get it.) When arrived home with food, coleslaw was missing from fish meal & fries missing from cheeseburger meal. Fish & fries were cold. (We live nearby--should have been hot.). Tried several times to call restaurant, but they weren't answering their phone. Family member drove back to restaurant & went inside this time. Had to wait at counter several minutes before being acknowledged. Three workers just stared at her when she told them why she came back about missing food. No response from them, no apology. No attempt to correct issue. Gave them burger back in bag. Finally able to speak to manager who remade cheeseburger since original was now quite cold. Got remade cheeseburger plus fries & coleslaw that were missing from original order. Manager was only person to acknowledge issue--she finally said "sorry" to family member's back as she was going out the door. Cheeseburger bun was not fresh (hard) & meat tasted "off." Had to reheat fish & fries--still was gross, grease tasted rancid. Even the root beer tasted different (somehow "off"), never bad before in all the many years been eating at AW and/or LJS locations. Both of us sick from what we ingested before trashing the rest of both meals. Never again will we visit this place. More stomach cramping, nausea & diarrhea just thinking about it while writing this.... Will AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. read more

It has been a few years since visiting this location (used to work close by) and very disappointed in the atmosphere. First, the food was good but I miss having the baked Cod, healthy option that used to be available. So food wise the overall rating would be maybe a 3 or 4. However the rating for me and my guest dropped to a 1 because of how dirty the place was. Walking around we noticed all the floors were very sticky, which made us worry about how the cooking area was. I had to use the restroom and was horrified at how dirty they were. The toilet seat was so disgusting I wouldn't want to sit on it. note: I'm a guy so didn't have to. Stopped for lunch on a Thursday at 12:45pm. It was not busy and I ate inside. I ordered a plate with two fish portions, one chicken plank, three shrimp, fries, slaw and hushpuppies. The fish was a bit overdone, but tasty and moist on the inside. The chicken was dry and chewy. The slaw was good and the hushuppies were delicious. The fires were old, cold and scrappy. No malt vinegar was visible anywhere, not offered with the food and It was a hunt to discover ketchup and tartar sauce, offered in infinitesimally small paper cups. Not a great value for $8.64 The employees were moderately friendly and the place was not as clean and tidy as I like a restaurant to be. This was my first experience. The cashier was not the smartest but very friendly and nice. I got the papa burger meal with no onion and papa sauce. My wife got the kids corn dog nuggets meal. She said it was Ok. Lots of food. My burger was great. Fries on both meals were kinda cold and old but they were still Ok. We also got their famous root beer float. It was not good. I've noticed in the past few months that LJS has smaller fish and chicken portions. If you've gone regularly, the change is noticeable. A little disappointing. LJS is about the only fish I'll eat. And it just doesn't taste as delicious. So disappointed. read more

This place was and is currently still my favorite LJS to go to bc for a few reasons: 1. I am a well known regular there when I lived in S.A. 2. They never get my order wrong. 3. They accept all my coupons, whether On paper or mobile. And 4. Bc the food was delicious! (To me anyway) When I was in college in San Antonio, I used to come here often to get some nice crispy fried fish and chicken, almost always accompanied with hush puppies and either rice pilaf/fries. Always perfect every time, always quick, and the staff is always friendly to me! I've also tried their cod, which might be the one thing that doesn't smelly OVERY fishy fRom this menu (i could be wrong), and their baked fish meals, which are also pretty good, though I think there could be improvements In flavor for the latter. I tend to get the creamy sauce, and it's not garlicky enough for the baked fish. The staff is always very kind and nice to me, and with good fast seafood from here, I'd give this place 5 stars each time! I always will look forward to coming here when I am around. read more

All in all an okay place. Pretty cheap. Two of us ate for less than $14 and we got a meal with fries and added a large root beer float. Food was okay. My mother and I ordered drive through from this location on Tuesday, June 13. We then went to the adjacent Whataburger for sodas. Food tastes alright and was apparently made fresh (it was steaming hot), but was definately not worth what happened that evening. At midnight, I experienced severe stomach distress, my mother started experiencing the same a half hour later. We both spent Wednesday morning with it leaving both ends, so to speak. These two restaurants and Lubys the night before were the only food we had in common. I have since heard from the health inspector that a suprised inspection turned up nothing wrong at Lubys, which leads me to believe that one of these two restaurants was responsible. We found out Wednesday from the doctor that whatever it is is bacterial in nature, and we are both on very strong antibiotics as a result. read more

For one just walking in you can tell this place is in dire need of a makeover or just plain Ole maintenance. The floors were so sticky. When they cleaning the tables they never wiped the chairs and used a barely wet raddedy towel. I don't know if this place has ever had a good cleaning. Horrible management. I placed an order for french fries, an order of onion rings and a clam meal. According to the menu, the clam meal came with two sides.
