I watched a few youtube videos raving about this must try San Antonio south side staple, and was very curious to see why it had such great reviews. I checked it out for lunch, and immediately when you walk in you're welcome back into the 1960s, which is pretty cool. The list of prices were very reasonable too, $8.50 for a giant cheeseburger meal with fries and large soda! I tried the giant cheeseburger. Presentation wise I wasn't too impressed, my cheeseburger looked a bit smushed. But the real show stopper was the taste. I was surprised the burger patty had a crispy-ness to it and it was so delicious I inhaled my burger giant burger. The bun may have looked flat but it was so soft and delicious as well. It had all the classic toppings - american cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles. The staff were very friendly, the service was fast and they stopped by to make sure we were happy with our meal, which was a nice surprise at a fast food spot. Glad I got to experience the nostalgia this place brings to many, and can't wait to come back for this cheeseburger. Ah maaaan... I totally didn't believe my brother when he told me that a childhood favorite burger joint was still thriving in San Antonio after all these years. Nice greasy burger with soft bun. Fresh and tasty. I get my burger without mustard and onions add mayo and came out perfect! I got the onion rings which weren't overpowering. I also tried the munchers which weren't too flavorful, but chocolate shake was also a hit with the family. Nice clean and quick service. I've driven by this place for years and just now stopped in. It's your typical mom and pop burger place. Small inside but clean and spacious. The burgers were delicious and so were the fries. Order 2 burger and a fries to go, they called my number. Only one burger there, I go back to counter and watch them take apart other customer burger to correct my order. They still did not get it correct. Went back finally correct, by then the first burger was cold. Ask to speak to a manager and the saw person took the burger from another was walking up to the counter. I asked to speak to someone higher. A older woman came up to the counter, but did not really seem to really care. Said she was sorry about that with a smile that did not reach her eyes. First and last time I will be going. I walk in and I'm not greeted I go up to the counter to order and the girl tells me what do you want and I told her I want to order a triple meat triple cheese with bacon and chili and an extra french fry and my buns toasted both sides. She puts my order in and I weighed about 10 minutes for my order to come out. I get my burger and french fries and it's delicious best burger I've had in San Antonio french fries were awesome everything was nice and fresh. We were told that this was one of San Antonio's best old fashion burger joints. The local news channel NEWS4SA gave this place the " San Antonio Blue Plate for the "WEAK" award. I think they must have been seriously mistaking.... #news4sanantonio When we pulled into the parking lot the drive-thru was at least 20 cars deep. We opted to go inside for the Full Monty. Initial impressions walking it... definitely a community treasure but nothing fancy... fairly clean, it was a full house. Every table occupied with people eating. There was no line at the cashier but it looked like chaos behind the counter with sandwiches, and about 20 prefilled cups of sodas. We Ordered: Griff's Double Giant combo with Large Soda and Large fry. Cheese burger and side of onion rings Total price - $15.99 (very reasonable price) The Double Giant burger was decent, the meat reminded me of the pre made patties we use to eat as a kid... when there wasn't much money and moms wasn't concerned about the quality of the meat. Surprisingly my burger was very decent size, flavor, preparation and price. The bottom bread of the cheese burgers bun was so hard it COULD NOT be eaten...its was like a ROCK! (Im not exaggerating). It was so hard I could not break it with my two hands. Onion rings were extremely over cooked, burnt, oily! French fries were okay. Soda was flat as expected because as orders came in they prepared the drinks w/ ice and placed on the counter until the rest of the order was completed. I noticed that the warming lights and table in between the kitchen and the cashier was not working; so they placed the prepared burgers on top of it. The kitchen looked small and there was total chaos back there. I can not imagine what the Blue plate judges would have to say right now; obviously they visited this place when they were closed or had very little busy. Outside seating was dark, the lighting was very low and it did not feel safe to eat outside. This was not the worse restaurant that I have visited, but I see absolutely no purpose for me to ever return to this place again. I really wanted this place to be GREAT, but one big problem kept them from 5 stars. PROS: I loved the grilled buns, with super crispy edges. Most places do not get this right, and it really makes burgers shine. Also the produce was super fresh, crispy, and cold, which is exactly the way it should be. Finally, the staff was super efficient and friendly, and the order came out very fast overall. CON: The burger patty was rubbery and had an off taste I associate with low quality beef. This is a major misstep in my book for a burger joint. Overall, this place reminds me of Burger Boy. If you like those burgers, these are almost a clone. read more

My brother used to work early in the late 80's early 90's and I come to pay tribute to him because he would always say they were good RIP. Let's start by saying I was raised in the Midwest, where diners and shack burgers were everywhere. I stumbled upon this place while just driving down a street i had never been on looking for someplace where I had never dined. The sign caught my eye as a classic style Americana themed signed and the building looked like an old walk up shake stand, just a little bigger. I then noticed the line around the building for the drive thru. I saw that and thought it must be good but I don't want to wait. I continued on and stopped at a bbq restaurant, parked, but then thought, I really want to try that double cheeseburger the marquee mentioned. So I went back and parked and went in. Place was no where near the cleanest place I had been, but it let me know they pay more attention to the food then the looks. I proceeded to order the double giant cheeseburger combo. The burger wasn't anything special to look at, and even looked over cooked. First bite, the bun was nice and the burger was juicy. Reminded me of the old ways they would do burgers, right bun, right meat and right cheese. Patties were seasoned right and just did it all good.
