Paid over $400 for a private table at a recent concert here and were treated like trash by the guy in charge, running around calling himself the "owner" and barking orders at "the little people." The meal was subpar, and the "owner" even got up to thank the chair rental company for their donation, otherwise "all you people would be sitting on the ground right now!" This was seriously one of the most maddening, and disappointing experiences ever. Can't very well leave when they've already got you for the ticket price. This was the first and last time I'll ever visit Wiens winery. I would give them no stars, but the system won't allow it. read more

Went here while visiting family in Temecula and wow! Beautiful place. I'm a little thrown off by the "fat" manager comment, though! We have belonged to Wiens for awhile. There are several wines my husband really likes and several servers that we both like (Hey, Lisa!) We have brought friends here, but never a group, which we did this last weekend. We had made reservations several weeks in advance but were not told that there would be no member discount for friends (that our other wineries allow us) and no reserved areas (as our other wineries do for us), so please keep this in mind if you come on the impacted weekends. $20 per person, no discounts for member friends or $25 per person in the member's barrel room. I'd recommend coming during the week if you are in a group, and check out their website for their 2/1 tasting coupon, which is only good during the week. Their wines and servers and winery are worth the visit! Stars: 5 stars for the beautiful grounds and great servers, 4 stars for the wine (my DH would give them 5), 3 stars for the lack of perks (above mentioned) for members and their entourage. Again, I definitely recommend a visit, but not on the weekends except after 3pm or so if you don't like crowds or having to wait in line to taste. The pours are generous. read more

Second stop on Wino Tour 2009. Much bigger, and nicer than Stuart. We got up to the bar to get serviced in no time. Unfortunately wine pourer chick where we found room to squeeze in (it was crowded here too) gave us about two drops of wine to "taste"-which really wasn't even enough to sniff, WTF?! We immediately backed away from the bar to plan our next move. Tim (our guide/jeep driver from Sunrider tours) hooked us up with a dude (I forget his name, this was our SECOND winery after all) who was fun and friendly, and made up for that beeeyatch. I was not blown away by anything, but I remember being pleasantly surprised by their cabernet sauvignon-which I am typically not a fan of. It was smooth, not bitey at all...We were rating all the wines, but I forgot our list there. Obviously nothing was that memorable, there were definitely no 5's among Wien's Cellars' wines-we were rating them on a scale of 1-5... Although the wine was not impressive, the atmosphere was cool and my overall experience here was really good. Maybe because I was a little tipsy? I dunno...but I would return to Wiens. read more

Wiens is one of the nicest tasting rooms in Temecula - it is spacious and inviting. Although the wines are not my favorite of the region, they have pretty decent and I've never encountered a bad pourer at Wiens. They obviously go out of their way to hire a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Upon my most recent visit, I found about half of the wines to be good. The reds are not quite as big as their sign may lead you to believe. Our server let us taste a reserve wine - the Chateau Grand Rogue and man was that one great. We bought a bottle. Wiens is a great tasting room, but their wines are not the absolute best in the area. Great place to try champagne if you're in the mood! read more

We came for some winetasting on a weekday. It is a popular spot because it was fairly crowded at the tasting area. I enjoyed the wines and the ambiance of the winery. They have tables outside with cool misters to keep customers cool during the summer heat which is awesome. We brought food and snacks to enjoy and pair with our wine tastings. It was a perfect experience until we needed to buy more wine. We left our snacks on the table for about 10 minutes or so while we went inside to buy another bottle. To our surprise and disappointment, one of the staff came by and THREW OUT all of our food! Who does that?! We spoke to her and told her how rude it was for her to throw out our food especially since we were not away from our table too long. This negatively affected my experience at Wiens. read more

I absolutely love the wines at Weins. Never a disappointment with the service nor the wine hosts. I particularly would like to mention Teri, who shares her descriptive notes of the wines without going overboard. She is very personable, friendly, and inquisitive. Teri will make sure that she finds a wine that you'll enjoy. Some of my favorite blends are the Refugio, Crowded, and the Summer Fest (which was a special blend last summer). The atmosphere here was a little more formal than some of the other places we visited. At first the staff seemed a little snotty (I think it was because a party bus came in shortly after us and they were kind of annoying), but quickly warmed up. The reds were definitely better than the whites. I especially loved the champagne. This was our fourth stop so I was in the mood for something a little lighter. Probably should have reviewed this winery 2-3 years ago. Better late than never. Since moving into the general area, and since we are big red wine drinkers, we have had much opportunity to check out the various wineries. This is one of our favorites. They seriously promote "Big Reds" and they should. From Pinot to Sangiovese to Cabernet, etc., I've never had a bad wine. Many of our friends also like their De L'Orange Champagne - and I must say that it is very refreshing. Their wine club is great, but we finally opted out after filling up our wine rack with overflow. We do not drink expensive wine on a daily basis. This review, however, was prompted by our attending a wedding at the winery last Saturday night. One of our daughters was the matron-of-honor, and we were very pleased to be a part of the activity. It was GREAT! The setting was wonderful, very private and romantic. The coordinator (wish I could remember her name - memory is the 3rd thing to go!) took care of all the details without any hint of confusion. The food was great and the wine and champagne never stopped. I cannot help but believe that everyone had a great time. So if you are in the area, do check it out - for both their wines and as a destination wedding location. read more

For us San Diegans- Temecula is awesome. In less than an hour and a half you can escape in wine country and quench your thirst with some really legit wine. When looking at possible wedding venues last year- we spent 4 consecutive Saturdays touring almost every vineyard in Temecula and tasting their delicious libations- Weins is BY FAR one of the- if not the best place to indulge in your various reds. Their Sangiovese is awesome- their red blend called Red Crowded is on a different level. We just went up last weekend and so stoked in some of their new white they introduced. Like every other vineyard- they have a wine club. Every month my fiancé and I debate on whether or not we should keep it- at this point Weins is the only vineyard that keeps up consistently coming back- and every time, we show up- we have one taste and were reeled back in. Finally got around to checking this place out! We always hit our regular places, but decided to branch out and try something new! We are glad we did for sure. Wiens has a very extensive wine menu from whites and sparklings to reds and ports. We were lucky to land in front of Dawn! What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon! She was fun, knowledgable and got us excited about the wine and winery! She told us that she was new, but from what we experienced she could have fooled us. We were impressed with her skills and suggestions. If you go in look for Dawn, she will top off your great day! As for the wines, we were very impressed. My favorite of Temecula, BIG REDS!!! A must on any Temecula Wine Country Tour. Primitivo Reserve and the Zinfandel are both smooth, full-bodied reds that fall in-line perfectly with what I want in a wine. The Amour de l'Orange is spectacular as well. Unlike the Almond Champagne this is not to sweet and the hint of orange plays a backseat to an excellent clean dry champagne. I've been to Wiens five times in the last two years. Obviously I love it because I keep going back. It's the only winery where I at least like everything I taste, and I always love two or three enough to buy a few bottles. I appreciate the expertise and personal attention of the employees giving the tastings, especially Terry and Rachel. There's a sign out front that says Big Reds! I don't get what they were referring to; certainly not their wines. Everything we tried was so jammy and fruit-forward that I couldn't drink it. I think Big, I think high alcohol; a full-bodied feel on the palette. Someone in our group described the wine as if someone had dropped a fruit rollup in the bottle the day before, and I thought that was an apt description. The staff is definitely friendly and they tried pouring more wines for us to see if there was something we liked, but unfortunately Temecula just doesn't have the volcanic soil, the cool evenings, the steep hills, or the right vines to get the job done. read more

I love this place. Been here before but it's been awhile. Maybe a few years. I love this area of Temecula and how the wineries have developed into beautiful destinations for your wine tasting experience. Years ago the area was a bit dry looking. These days it is all very green, lush and flowing with the feel of vineyards and fine wine. It is truly spectacular. This time we were with friends Michael and Christina, an awesome couple we met through Yelp a couple years ago. We made a nice day of wine and lunch away from home. Lucky us, we were treated to a little more pampering than typical as we were invited into the club members tasting room. I think it's called "The Barrel Room"? Nice place. Thank you M&C for getting us in there. I think we sampled about 6 wines. I chose all reds and honestly, I was having so much fun I don't remember the names of any of them. Sorry guys. My bad on that. No matter though, as I'm pretty easy to please and the staff so knowledgeable that if you simply mention what you usually like they will set you up with comparable tastes you're sure to enjoy. The service was fantastic and personable. I loved the place and had a great time. I would certainly suggest Weins Family Cellars as a must for anyone wanting a taste of the best that Temecula has to offer. read more

Normally my visits here are amazing. I love their red wines....It's the reason I keep coming back, but today was a different story. I came in to pick up my shipment and sat down for our tastings, the wine pourer kept getting our order wrong and even forgot to give us water. Everyone else received water but somehow, she didn't give us any. We had to buy our own water. All her other guest, she would attend, our table was like the forgotten table. I understand she had other guest, I've been there on days that it has been busy but, I've never been treated like that. When I left I left a dollar tip, it's not much but the service was not good, the server comes after me as I'm walking to my car and tells me to keep the dollar because it's an insult. What did she want a hundred dollars for bad service???? I don't think so..I called to talk to a manager as I was leaving, but they hung up the phone when I called to say I wanted to talk to a manger about a servers behavior, I called again and was directed to voicemail. I've never had a bad experience here. I guess there is a first time for everything. read more

Well I may be a bit biased because I am a wine club member here. They have good wines particularly their reds. I'm a big fan of the tempranillo and the Crowded. The tasting room is spacious and they have a special tasting room in the rear for wine club members where you can sample reserve wines. The staff is knowledgable especially Michelle. Because I am a wine club member I get to attend the pick up parties which are a lot of fun. When in Temecula check this place out. I knocked them down a star because they do not have water dispenser in the tasting room which I think is necessary. read more

Was shown the hand! Our bus rolled up around 2pm when a man came running out, hand in the air, and sternly saying "NO, NO, NO, turn around" more times than I can count on fingers and toes. Apparently, they do not allow buses here in the afternoon and you must have a reservation for groups of ten or more. If you don't know this, sorry they'll treat you badly. They would not allow us inside and refused to sell us tastings because we arrived in a bus. Their tasting room is Large -- one of the biggest I've been to in Temecula. Seriously, the bar wraps around the entire room, so I can't believe this is for lack of space. Bottom line, we were treated *Very rudely* and were yelled at for wanting to offer this place business. I have no idea what their wine is like (a few in our group were really looking forward to this spot in particular) but I really don't care -- life is too short to be yelled at and treated that way. Temecula is the perfect place to take a date. It seems sophisticated. You can get your date drunk. And if your date can't read good, she won't notice that this place is dirt cheap. 6 tastings, 1 glass, and a pleasant surprise, all for about 10 bucks. Try the syrah, the petit sirah, or my personal favorite, the champagne le orange. And Bob! Don't let me forget about Bob. Bob taught me everything I ever wanted to know about wine. The five S's - sight, swirl, smell, sip, and *ah* savour. After you swallow, exhale slowly through your nose to get the rest of the other notes. And if you burp and breathe, you get green apples! I just got marrried at Wiens May 2009 and here is my review, much of my review also reflects on their caterer, The Forge. I had a beautiful wedding and hopefully all the guests didnt notice these things. It makes me sad to think that everyone noticed these issues, not just the guests that commented to us that they did. Pros: -The staff is very nice, friendly and accommadating. Jaime, Rhianna and Lilia are very nice and easy to work with. -They are flexible with access to the location - Their wines are very good, got many comments on how they liked them. -The vendor they have for food, the Forge, has great tasting food, recieved many comments that the food was delicious -Answer questions quickly and accessible -One of the male bartenders was very nice, called me by name and ask to help even though never met me before. -Allowed flexibility with decorations. -The grounds are pretty and very well maintained. -Have a bridal and grooms suite to get dressed in onsite and they give you wine and snacks while you dress. Cons: They caused a bit of embarrassement to me and my husband with their caterer's service. I attribute it to inexperience in throwing more upscale events because I don't think they would do these things purposefully. -The caterer was chinzy and don't know how to set a proper/standard table. Did not use bread or butter plates so my guests had to put their buttered bread on the tablecloth and salads were served on butter plates. Not a single person I know has ever been served their salad on a butter sized dish before and people commented on how it was so weird. They didn't tell us the salads would be so tiny even after we asked numerous times if there would be a lot of food or else we would choose buffet service, and many guests had their salad fall off the sides of the plate onto the table because the plate was so tiny and improper for eating off of. -They didn't give enough bread for each guest at the table and didnt have any extra to refill the baskets so everyone could have a roll or slice in this case. Guests commented on this after the wedding. - They were supposed to serve wine during dinner but didnt really ask our guests if they wanted more wine so they could drink it. So for about an hr of the wedding guests didnt really drink like they would have wanted because they didnt want to feel rude to interupt the festivities by getting up to get more. -Sodas were served in cans but luckily the winery started serving it in glasses when we requested (as I said, they are accommadating). -Food was skimpy on the sides, my husband only had like 5 mini squares of potatoes (like the size of breakfast o'brien potatoes) when we asked many times about food portions being ample. -The caterers hurried through the service, picking up full plates of desserts and throwing them out so they could hurry up and leave, as a result, when about 50% of my guests (including me), came back from one dance (dancing started when desserts were available), our dessert was gone. This was not a slice of cake put on each setting. We had a buffet of desserts and each guest went and choose exactly what they wanted. I had a full plate of desserts with only one bite taken out and when I came back to my seat, it was thrown away! -Cacy the person who did our food tasting and was the captain at our wedding has a sour attitude in our experiences with her. When my husband and I brought our moms to our food tasting, she gave us attitude because she wasnt expecting them (and I had informed our venue that they would be attending). She was rude, only after some time did she change her outlook and treat us nicely. But she really didn't explain much or serve us our food in the manner that it would be served to us at our wedding so we know what we are getting. Then all through our wedding she had a sour face, she looked like she hated being there. She gets the job done but needs to learn some better people skills in her job since she is customer service. It would have been nice to be smiled at during our interactions with her. - They didnt put out some of the details we discussed like candles on the outside patio. Luckily my florist had extra decorations to put out there at the last minute. -They put out the ceremony chairs late so we could not use the decorations purchased for decorating the isles. They are again very nice but seem to be used to much more casual events (the coordinators didnt dress the part as an example, got comments from guests as to why they didnt dress the part) and were not able to provide all the service necessary to make our wedding run as we were had discussed with them. We let them know what we were expecting and the service didnt match our expectations. If they want to run more upscale events, they have some work to do. When I complained to the venue, at first I got a brush off email from the owner but the coordinator gave me a better apology. Hope this helps. read more

Based on the dialog between the two male pourers and the giggliness of the female tasters, I got the feeling that this is a good place for cougars and groups of females. One of the best tasting experiences ever! Since this place is big, pretty and popular, so I was totally ready for it to suck, but it was not the case. I should preface this by mentioning that my friend is a club member, and we got a deal for eight tastes in the super-cool barrel room. Very cool tasting room staff. It's pretty incredible when a server can make your experience 10x better, and that's exactly what the representative that served my group did. Richard disregarded that our group was a younger crowd that may not have had hundreds to drop on bottles of wine or a membership, and treated us as though we were valued customers during our wine tasting (cost was 12 - 15 bucks, can't recall exactly!). Wiens wine list is short in comparison with some of the other Temecula Valley wineries, but the cleverly-named wines are superb. I'm a white wine kinda gal, but the whites here didn't do it for me. I stuck with the reds, and I left happy. The 2008 Sangiovese was very good (not so much the more recent one - it's true what they say! Wines get finer with age). There isn't a restaurant at this winery, and that is because the owners decided to focus on one thing (wines) and make them the best that they can. I'm currently a member at South Coast, and now I'm thinking of joining the Wiens membership. The benefits are fantastic (free tastings for two, no limits, larger wine glasses, a more VIP experience, etc). Either way, I'll return for sure! read more

Beautiful Facility But Manager is Grumpy Old Man. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, to find a crowded tasting room. They had a good number of staff pouring, but still very crowded. The manager (I think, Grey hair and beard, with a different color shirt than everyone else) kept looking at everyone waiting, but never stepped in to help pour. The only time he actually approached us was to ask if we were wine club members. He made the experience annoying for me. Aside from Grumpy Old Man, the winery does OK with the Italian varietals. I'm not sure they should be calling their Champagne, 'Champagne.' I thought all sparkling wines had to be labeled differently, unless they are actually from the Champagne region. Temecula has some potential, but I'm not in any hurry to get back. read more

My friend and I have had a wine membership at Wiens for a while now, and we have really been enjoying it! I definitely recommend this as a stop, especially if you like reds. The location is beautiful, great views outside the tasting room. The staff gives generous pours and extra tastings as they educate you about the various varietals and aging processes. They treat their wine club members nicely so you feel appreciated as a regular customer. The special barrel room is great! As part of the wine club you get 2 free tastings each time you go to the winery; the last time we had 3 in our party and they gave us very heavy pours so we could "share" (read: just gave us three tastings) Classically decorated with stone, wood and high ceilings, both tasting rooms are spacious with long bars with several servers, and thus not usually terrible cramped even on a busy weekend. The staff is very educated about wines (you don't always find this in Temecula, unfortunately) - this is really important to me because part of the fun of going to the wineries is learning more about wine :) Tell me about American vs. French Oak! Tell me about the percentage mixed in each montage and why! How was the soil different in 2007 vs. 2008 in Southern California and how did it effect the tannin? If I want to just get drunk, I can go to the bar down the street from my house! Thanks Wiens for giving me an experience, rather than just great class of red! Weins is my favorite winery in Temecula. And I'll tell you why: 1. The wines are some of the best in town, especially the reds. I love the domestique, red crowded, and Reserves. 2. Their wine club rocks- they have pickup parties every shipment with free food and wine tasting. 3. The servers are great, the owners are awesome. 4. The serve cheese and crackers in the private members wine tasting room. 5. They HAVE a private tasting room. 6. They have great deals on cases and lots of 2 for 1 deals on certain wines. We had such a great experience at this Winery until today. We got a tasting and everything was great but when we wanted to buy a tasting for our friend that came later because he drove 2 and 1/2 hours they stated that since we already got tastings for being a member we weren't allowed to buy anymore. They went so far as to take away my friends tasting because they bought it when they came after just because they were talking to us. Worst customer service by far and safe to say we cancelled our membership. We were not intoxicated and we were trying to spend our money somewhere we loved the wine. Do better. Not sure of the girl who denied us and then went to management when our friend bought the tasting. But she shouldn't be allowed to work the front desk. read more
