My ratings: I ordered a 3 veggie plate with a desert and corn muffin. It was my first time there. Service = A+ The person at the drive through was pleasant and took the time to help me figure out what I wanted. Very good service. Food = C - The food, on the other hand, was not so good. The turnips and beans were from a can. The broccoli casserole was from scratch and was very good I must say. The banana pudding had been refrigerated for some time and appears to have been packaged and not home made. The cookies in the banana pudding were very moist with no crunch. The other ingredients were not very good. Overall the food was decent, but coming from a family of women that can cook, I was not impressed especially with the canned good items. The corn muffins were horrible. They were not warm and were crumbly and too firm. Clealiness - I didn't go inside so I don't know how it looked inside, but my food appeared to be clean and nicely packaged. Time - I went around 3:00 so no one was in the drive through. Ordered 2 "Specials" (3 chi strips, fries bread & drink. I asked to sub Mac & cheese for fries, no can do but you can get COMBO & get 2 sides & drink..... fine hook me up! Received meal with COLD strips , no fries .... asked for manager. Manager never apologized & said well.... I asked "can you just bring us fresh meals? Apparently I look like the cashier's (hot) middle school teacher. Awkward intros aside, Wife Saver is an Augusta tradition for a reason. If 95% of your plate isn't fried, you're doing it wrong. Portions are huge and cheap, and while carry out is the norm, there is plenty of space to sit and eat in. I went with the three piece fried chicken strip dinner, and they threw in an extra strip for free. For a side, you can't go wrong with the fried okra. You get a choice of bread, and thankfully, hushpuppies count as bread, and they're crispy, moist and corn-flavor-filled. Grab a squeeze bottle of honey mustard at the counter, and an extra large drink, and you've got Southern fried perfection for under $7. read more

Wifesaver is good old fashioned Southern food. I always have the gizzard meal though I have tried their chicken and porkchops and they are equally as tasty. The servings are generous, the sides are delicious and you can't go wrong if your looking for a slice of Southern country cooking!! read more

One of the most embarrassing moments of my life. Ordered in the drive thru. I got to the window and paid with my card. The cashier hands me a piece of paper with no total or anything on it. I signed it and handed it back still unaware of the total. I look at my online account and it CLEARLY stated $58.43 was debited from my account. They never gave me the food they were just standing around talking. Then one of them comes to the window and says "Can you show me proof that this came out of your account?" I showed him the transaction on my online banking and he walks off. 10-15 minutes pass and another guy walks up to the window and says "We are not showing that you paid". I clearly am pissed off now! I show him AGAIN where it came out of my account. He says "You can come back tomorrow and see a manager but we can't give you your order". Im asking What if that was my last $58? They would rather throw the food away than show some courtesy to the customer. NEVER again will I visit the Wife Saver of Furrys Ferry. I live less than 2 minutes away and I won't EVER be disrespected. I drove off with no food and $58 taken from my account. read more

Some chicken pieces tasted a little questionable, but the sides were pretty good. The 4-hour nap that attacked me the second after this meal is good indication of cheap, deliciously unhealthy southern food. Pretty similar to Church's, but with a unique name and more old people. read more

Love me some wifesaver! A bit pricey, but very good food. It's a chicken restaurant mostly. They do have shrimp and some other things but.. for the most part its chicken. I'd consider Zaxbys, churches, kfcs their major competitors. A lot of good southern style sides. Macaroni n cheese, green beans, mashed taters, that sorta thing. Biscuit, cornbread or hushpuppy. (no contest.. get the hushpuppy! they have to cook em almost every time, so they're more than likely gonna be hot. They're good with brown sauce too.) Only down side? They're a little pricey. $9 for a plate is pretty normal. That's 4 chicken strips, 2 sides, and a bread. I don't remember if a drink is included in this price, sorry. (I THINK it is though.) this location lately has seemed a little dark inside. I'm not sure why. It's like the lights aren't warm enough to put out enough light? Dunno.. Food is decent, classic country cookin' at a reasonable price. That said, I always have a problem with my order when I come here. I either don't receive an item, or they fail to ring something up all together. During one visit, I ordered a small banana pudding (one of the best items they have on the menu) and asked about it when it wasn't on my tray. The dude behind the counter gave me some 'tude like I was trying to get something for free, because the item wasn't on my receipt. The girl forgot to ring it up. We have ordered here for years, but the last two times have been really disappointing to the point that this will probably be the last. We ordered two fried fish meals and experienced undercooked and over cooked fish to the point that they were inedible. The fries were almost raw. The hushpuppies are really good, but the inconstancy in the rest of the menu is troublesome. I will not go back. read more

One of the originals in the area since mid-1900's. Great food, good prices, and good staff. A go-to for my family's meals for over 50 years. Favorites are their pot roast, chicken fingers with homemade honey mustard, HUSHPUPPIES, and of course their fried chicken. All of their sides are like your grandma made 'em! read more

I love this place. Grew up in Augusta and this is a must eat place when ever I visit home. I love their fried chicken livers! Not everyone's cup of tea, but they are really good. Their fried chicken is good too. I always get livers, broccoli rice casserole, mac and cheese, and hush puppies. I'll be eating there next week when I'm home and am looking forward to it! read more

Ruined thanksgiving meal. Sold my small dressing to someone else. They kindly gave me the large for replacement only to open for thanksgiving and see over a third charred along with only an inch in height. Horrible horrible dressing. Today I ordered a 5lb Mac and Cheese for pick up at 5:15pm. I get there at 5:20pm and pay for the item when the lady ringing me up informs me that it is already done so it should be right out. My husband and I take a seat. 20 MINUTES LATER, I walked back up to the register and asked the other gentleman cashier if the Mac and Cheese is ready yet. He says "yeah, it's been ready since 5, are you ready to pay?" I advised him that I paid the lady beside him 20 minutes ago, present my receipt, and watch him stroll over to the oven and grab my Mac and Cheese which has been sitting there THE WHOLE TIME. The only reason they get 1 star is because the Mac and Cheese is good. read more

Mac & cheese tasted like scrambled eggs turnips were salty, cornbread was not fresh or good, chicken was 'edible' & the banana pudding was jello pudding, nilla wafers & whipped cream. I will never eat here again. I ordered chicken liver, fries, and biscuit two weekends ago from there. This first day I felt fine and the second day I experienced blurried vision, diarrhea, painful stomach cramps, burning up, and sweating. I have never felt this way before. I had food poison and you all need to be shut down. You all need to practice cleanliness in your restaurant because someone is nasty in your restaurant. The food was just okay tho shrimp were way overdone. Hush puppies tasted as if they been warmed up from previous day. The staff looked pretty shabby. We had a great visit this weekend. The Mac and Cheese and chicken fingers are off the chain. Fast service.

We used Wife Saver to cater at our church for a Franciscan Fraternity Event on Oct 3. The food was delivered and set up right on time. All of our guests remarked the food was both steaming hot and tasty. We ordered to feed 23 but there were many more who came but all were served with some of the members taking home plates for an additional meal. I might add Wife Saver was by far the low bidder for our event. We will be sure to engage them again as a result of our good results. read more

I Love their food! My favorite ? Fried Chicken Livers! and the sauce is to die for!!! I was also partial to the turnip greens! mmm! with that pepper venegar omgoodness my mouth is watering! I grew up in Augusta Georgia and even worked at Wife Saver when I was in high school in 1979 & 80, for the original owners/family ;-] Sweet people! I can't remember the family name but the dad ran the place and his dad ran the kitchen and made all the sweets, pies, banana puddin and such ;-] He was as sweet as his desserts! My mother passed away in 2008 and we had her funeral there in Georgia with all of us coming back from different places and had it catered by Wife Saver. My mother loved their chicken livers too so we had a whole mess of em at the meal after the service. There were quite a few left over and I took those to my hotel room but had no fridge ;-/ but I have to be honest; I ate those for three days unrefrigerated (couldn't bare to throw them away) and never even got a stomach ache! ;-] I love to fry chicken livers myself now and am always trying to perfect the sauce recipe - I wish I had it... read more

For the past few years it has been iffy as to what you got versus what you ordered (i.e ordered French fries and got fried okra. Learned to check the order before I left the store. Tonight, however, it was the food. Wifesaver used to have the best chicken. The skin was always crispy and hot. What I got this time was cold and soggy as were the french fries and hush puppies. This food obviously had been sitting around. For over thirty years this has been our go to place for fresh fried chicken but until I hear from others that things have improved we won't be doing anymore ordering. The prices have risen considerably and it's just not worth it. I just wonder if the Duke family is still running the store. read more

What a great southern place to eat. It's got that old fashioned feel with some of the most pleasant customer service in the South! I stumbled across this place three years and have been going there every since. This past weekend, we hosted a graduation party for my daughter. We ordered Shrimp, Okra and Whiting. Let me tell you, it was a hit! You have to get some hushpuppies while you're there too. Wife Saver made my event a memorable one. They serve more than enough food and you can actually eat off of it for days. Get this, it even tastes great cold! I love this place and you will too. Make it one of your stops, because it's just off I20 and you can't miss it. Wife Saver is the appropriate name for this place, because it really does give you a break for the kitchen. My husband grew up in Augusta and has been to WifeSaver a lot over the years. A couple of months ago, we had a bad experience where we ordered our food, the clerk told us it would be ready in 10 minutes, we got to the takeout window, and she asked what we ordered. We waited for 20 minutes before getting frustrated. Then, we asked for our money back and left. Tonight (6/25) we decided to give it another try, we ordered 1/2 chicken gizzards and 1/2 livers dinner with 4 sides and hushpuppies. We were told that it would be ready within 10 minutes, we waited about 15 minutes. The clerk came to the window and asked what we ordered. We had to repeat the order at least three times. She wanted to know if we wanted it split 3, 3, and 3. (Hello) It was evident that our order had not been processed. We waited, and waited. I called the store and talked to Tyler who initially took the order. He stated that he would check on it and prepare it himself to make sure it was correct. He brought out the order in less than 5 minutes. My question would be why didn't the clerk bring our order out. Tyler was very apologetic. When we got home, the food was cold and drenched in oil. You could tell that it was not freshly cooked. We had biscuits instead of hushpuppies. Really, the livers and gizzards were nasty. In addition, there was only about 4 gizzards and 3 livers. Wife saver was a great place to eat. The location on Belair rd is hit or miss on quality. They will serve you left over greasy fries instead of asking you to wait while they cook. Sometimes the chicken is over cooked. I wonder if there not re heating the chicken and fries in oil if they sit too long. Its not always like this but you better check your to go order before you leave. read more
