Wigs & Plus recently moved to a much nicer location a few doors down from their previous (dark) location, so that's a huge plus. Everything looks super clean and orderly now. They stock all the usual brands, but the brand I was looking for on my last visit, was absent (Elucence). They could also stock more natural oils and butters, though I saw they had unrefined shea butter the last time I was there (+1)... this is typicallly very hard to find in a beauty supply store. There was a salesperson who worked there a while back who was very helpful and knowledgeable, but I haven't seen him in a while, and I'm not sure he's still there. The other salespeople are ok, but I think, are more concerned with wig sales, than hair care products. The 32nd St location is the main one, so if you can't find what you're looking for on 14th St., try it. read more

I recently lost all my hair and the wig I purchased happened to be defected. I went back and the staff was so accommodating and made me feel so comfortable that I ended up with a total of 6 wigs. I wanted to write this review to counter some of the outrageously negative ones that are on here- to read them you would think that there were a bunch of shady monsters working in this shop, just waiting to ruin your day. I went in yesterday because my stylist told me to pick up some hair to fill out the look we decided on for my upcoming wedding. A staff member came over immediately (lovely, young Caribbean woman) and helped me pick the right length and colors. I was in and out of there in less than ten minutes with exactly what I wanted. You only have an option of trying on 4 wigs and they don't allow you to walk around with them on/get adjusted to a new look. My friends and I were trying on wigs for a 70s themed party so the limited option of wigs didn't give me idea of what I wanted; therefore I didn't want to purchase any of the options I tried on. read more

OMG OMG OMG! Wig heaven. I came in here to buy wigs for a show I was in the next evening. They have a great selection and are open til 715pm on weeknights which is handy. I still can't believe i waited til the last minute to do one of my favorite things: shop for wigs. Nevertheless, there I was at the eleventh hour looking for two bleach blonde bobs. They were very accommodating as I had to try on several wigs to find one that fit me and another that fit my sister. Unlike other wig stores I've been to, this one did not try to sell me a half-wig and tell me it was a whole wig. They sat me down and actually combed my wig hair when I tried them on for size. Then I actually upsold myself to the Human Hair wig because my head was too big for the acrylic one. (Alas.) I left with two wonderful wigs that not only looked great on camera but actually stayed in place for 3 hours! read more

The merchandise here is okay but the workers here are not helpful at all and kind of make it pointless to shop here when other hair stores have better prices and a larger variety of wigs (i.e. Downtown Brooklyn, Jay St or Harlem). They point to each other when you ask for help and not one person knows anything about hair in this hair store. I came in to ask for products to use on hair after a blowout to keep it straight and shiny. I spent $300 on hair and it sheds like crazy the volume I had in the beginning is 40% less than what I started with. insane I will not be going back. And the prices are to high poor quality of hair. And please hire someone that has knowledge on hair so people won't over spend on garbage hair. I came in today to make a full exchange for new hair. As soon as I walked into Wigs and Plus I felt unwelcome. I felt as though I was being judged for being a certain "demographic". The people working seemed annoyed at my curiosity. I had all intentions of buying until the treatment I received. I had heard bad things but needed a wig quickly. Needless to say I let empty handed and very disappointed. Also-- reading comments from the shop owner criticizing the status of other elite reviews made me uneasy to post but this is what yelp elite is for right? The owner is a THIEF!!!! I went there and pointed at a blond wig. The guy wine downstairs and then came back up and looked again and said I will be right back. He can back and handed me the wig. I paid the girl and left. I got home and when I opened the package (which is NON SEE THRU) it was a brunette wig. I called the store right away to tell him what happened so I could go back and get the correct one and he told me "All wigs are final sale" to which I said "I understand, I don't want my money back I just want the correct wig that I asked for" and he said NO. And then proceeded to try and blame me. What was I supposed to do? Open the package while I paid for it? I was handed the wig by his employee who should have given me the correct one. All I wanted to do is give back this one for the correct one. He then said "well you can come get one at 50% off". I don't want another one at 50% off I want the one I asked and paid for. He said NO. I was a bit hesitant going to this store as I saw several unfavorable reviews. However, I went with my gut, and decided to take the chance and go to the store anyway. I am glad that I went with my gut. Unlike some of the reviews that I read, I was greeted from the moment I walked into the store. I was directed to the area where the wigs are located, and not one, but two sales associates asked to help me. As I was walking thru the store, I noticed all the BIG CLEAR VISIBLE SIGNS, that many customers that wrote negative reviews indicated that were not visible immediately. And for the record, these signs look like they have been up for quite some time. It clearly indicates NO PHOTOS in every single mirror in the store. At each register there is a sign that indicates that there are no refunds or exchanges on wigs, extensions, nor hair color for HYGIENE purposes. I don't know about you, but just like underwear, I DO NOT EXPECT to want to purchase a product such as a wig that has been on someone else's head. I was told immediately about the $2 cash charge for the wig cap. Again in this day in technology many of us do not carry cash, but it isn't a big issue especially since a wig cap is a very good HYGIENIC practice. I was informed of the four wig maximum tryout as well. My sales associate was Priscilla and she is simply amazing. She asked me the purpose for why I needed the wig, and what were some of my preferences. She picked three wigs, and I left with all three. It is a shame that perhaps some people had a bad experience with this store. After reading some of their reviews, however, perhaps they may have not been paying attention when they walked in the store. And I thank them for their reviews, because I was already prepared to not have a not so pleasant experience. But quite frankly, I had the total opposite experience, and along with those that gave this store high reviews, I am right with them. There were four other people in the store purchasing wigs with only TWO sales associates. ALL OF US made multiple purchases. I HIGHLY recommend this store! And again THANK YOU Priscilla. I do like the selection here. I was looking for a product, and asked. The man said they did not carry it. (Redken Shades EQ) I looked around at some other stuff, and found all of the Shades EQ! Only place I can find it, other than online. Prices are great for tools like tint brushes, color bowls, combs. I think the prices are reasonable, generally, and there is a lot to choose from. I think this is a very necessary store because there are no Sally Beauty Supply stores here. Ricky's is overpriced, without a great deal to choose from. I love Wigs n Plus. read more

I came in to buy two wigs for a photoshoot and the staff was pleasant and very helpful! The woman who assisted me came up to me right away and was very patient through all of my questions and requests. She kept checking on me as I was waiting for a response from my boss, and didn't mind that I had to wait around a bit in the store. Terrible shop. Don't waste your time coming in here. Half the time, the employees don't know what they're doing and just want you to spend your money. I came in here for extensions. I told an employee what I was looking for and he gave me 3 options of what they had. Once I made my choice, he kept trying to divert me to something else. I highly dislike pushy people, especially when I KNOW what I want. I asked him if the hair had clips attached and he assured me everything was fine. When I left the store, nope, no clips were attached. I wanted to exchange for something with clips but apparently they don't sell extensions with clips? Wtf! How can a beauty shop specializing in HAIR no have extensions with clips already built in? He said I had to buy the clips which were $1 each. Um no. Not happening. When I wanted a refund, he had an attitude and was adamant about me not getting one. Yet, I had only paid 10 minutes before and walked back in. (I did wind up getting my refund after standing my ground). Before I ever thought to buy extensions from them, over the summer I came in to buy clips, but realized I didn't need any because I had enough on my extensions bought elsewhere. I told a blonde woman with girls that I never used the clips and wanted a refund. Nope. Not even if I didn't use them could I get a refund. HORRIBLE customer service. She insisted to give me store credit and to buy nail polish that would come out to be the same price as the clips. Turns out, the nail polish was $8 over what I initially spent. I decided to pay it anyway since I liked the colors. I will NEVER do business with them again. They are so unprofessional and unwilling to hear you out. All they care about is $$$$$! read more

Dear Cecilia K. or to whom it may concern, You've tried reaching out to me by offering me a discount and also asked if there's a way to improve my review. I thank you for that, however, I am not going to sell my soul for 20%. That is not worth the humiliation that I've felt and I should've never made an initial purchase to begin with. I don't need anyone to tell me about customer service, for I am a customer service representative. In addition, I don't need anyone to tell me about policies for they are fair and understandable, however my issue were more so with the execution of the policies, than the policies themselves. There's always more than one side to a story and at the same time, there's always facts. You were not present during the time of occurrence and due to these circumstances, I would like to clarify some things for you. Customer Service is a universal field, where all customers are treated in the same manner. That is not the case at this location, and this can be seen from not only my review, but other reviews prior to mine. With that being said, your establishment DOES NOT take pride in customer service and your staff DOES NOT DO EVERYTHING they can to help. I was mistreated and felt very uncomfortable. You do not need to "clear up" anything that might've made me feel this way because I previously listed the things that made me feel this way. This is how I felt. This is how I feel and nothing is going to change what happened that day. As I stated two sales people approached me to assist me AFTER standing there for sometime and AFTER I had to ask for assistance. Granted, yes wig caps are required for all customers to purchase for hygiene purposes and the minimum card purchase is $10, however, I was NEVER "offered the caps anyway in advance and told to charge them at the end altogether." I asked about using a card and instead I was told, "What if you don't end up buying a wig." My problem was NEVER with the $10 minimum because it's a beauty supply store and there are plenty of other things that I could've purchased. My problem was with the assumption that I wasn't going to buy anything. I was NOT "serviced politely" and please tell me what other customer your salesperson had to move on to, because we were the only ones in the wig section at that time. She stood there looking at us and we had to demand for her to take the wigs back out. So, again, she was under the assumption that I wasn't going to buy anything. My issue was not with the no photo policy, because everyone has their own policies. My issue was with the way she pointed and the placement of the sign. As for racism, you may not be racist, but you do have some members of your staff who are. This has definitely been previously stated in some fashion in other reviews for this store location. Just because you have a multicultural staff who respect each other, that doesn't mean they respect their customers with courtesy and dignity. Maybe you need to look into retraining your staff. I also suggest maybe sending in secret shoppers from time to time when they least expect it, to see if customers (particularly in the wig section) are being treated with respect. Again, I thank you for offering 20%, however, no need because I will not be revisiting this store location and will not recommend it to anyone. All of the employees there instantly got to work, helping me try on a lot of wigs that matched my original hair color. The employees set me up with a GREAT natural looking wig that was both gorgeous AND cheap, which is very hard to find. I was in and out in 20 minutes, and nobody noticed that I was wearing a wig because it looked so close to my natural hair. I had only previously been to the front of Wigs and Plus a few times with a friend, oggling their vast array of nailpolishes at only 99 cents a pop. Dang! Lately I've been on a quest for brown hair. But I know how disasterous putting brown dye over light blonde hair is and I didn't want to have to relive that horrible experience again (CARROT. ORANGE.) nor did I want something permanent, either, in case brown isn't too flattering So I opted for a wig. The first time I went to the back of Wigs and Plus I was alone and pretty impressed with the expanse of wigs that covered the shelves. I inquired about a few of the wigs but TWICE the salesladies completely blew me off because I appear to be about 14 (which I am not.) I left, and went back today with a friend, figuring a second appearance at the shop would convince them that I was, in fact, intending to buy something. I had tried on maybe two wigs. Both of them looked awful. The last wig I tried was about $50 however the quality wasn't up to par with its pricetag nor did it look particularly convincing. I took the wig off and was having a lot of trouble getting the wig back on the mannequin because I am very short and it was up a little too high, and my friend began laughing at me and I started laughing too. Moments later, a hawk like hand snatched the wig from me and the mannequin too. "YOU DO NOT PLAY WITH THE WIGS!" The saleswoman barked, scolding me as if I were a 10-year-old. Instead of offering me assistance she was completely condescending. She glared at us and we were feeling pretttty insulted so we bought nailpolish from the front and left. Basically, the star I am giving this place is for its great nailpolish selection and the sweet older lady who works at the front and some of the much nicer employees who work at the front part of the store. read more

Rude and unprofessional, it doesn't take a lot to sale wigs. The sales girl that was assigned to us talked to us in a very un-classy manner, had no patience and repeatedly said we were only allowed to try 4 wigs, we bought a $2 cap (not a problem at all, at least we knew the wigs were clean). She barely helped us pick anything (for my mom) We were looking for 2 different styles and all she said to us when we picked the first wig was "NO that s not good for her, at her age she will sweat a lot" (I took a deep breath instead of telling her to f###off) We tried a shorter one, sometime with photographs you get a better idea of what you look like, specially the sides and the back. She looked at us and said "YOU CAN'T TAKE PICTURES, THEY WILL THROW YOU OUT" we felt like we were in some kind of underground traffic of something. I didn't feel like looking at anything else. That day we walked in convinced we were buying 2 different styles for my mom to take with her the next day (she was visiting NY) but they foolishly let me walk out of their store after spending only $2 instead of couple of hundreds. The funny part was that when she incorrectly placed the first wig on my mom's head, it looked extremely small but she stepped back and said: "that's how it's supposed to be"!!!!! I will never return to this place. Customer service is horrible all around. I spoke to a supervisor named Milly a Spanish gentleman and a young girl. They couldn't help me with the hair color I wanted and when I went to return the color without opening it they told me I couldn't exchange it and how that's the policy.
