After planning to take a trip with family to Mammoth Cave National park, I did some searching and people recommended that this place be tried out. One of those roadside attractions that you really have to experience sometime in your life if you like quirky things. Apparently this is only one of three of these teepee villages left in the country after many more have been torn down. So I made my reservations online and less than a year later, we arrived! Keith and Megan are the owners and Keith greeted us and gave us quite the verbal tour and history. Him and Megan bought it five years ago and they are slowly updating everything to the original 1937 design but also keeping updated amenities in mind too. We stayed in number 10 and even though it has not been restored yet it was still clean and they put work into at least keeping it current until it gets a full restoration. The only complaint I had was there was not a lot of horizontal space to set things down. No nightstands either because it's a very tight space. No table at all in the bathroom either so it was hard to use toiletries. The air conditioner is in the window but eventually there will be a silent mini split installed and I can't wait to see that! The whole playground and fire pit area is completely vintage looking but still maintained. Guests came and went and it was always fun to watch different sets of kids enjoy all of the activities. We had a fire every night and Keith had one or two cats follow him down from his house who joined us and let us give them all the love. This was definitely a great stay and I'm looking forward to doing it again someday but I definitely want to stay in one of the more updated teepees. But they made it clear that anything we needed, we could just ask. Very nice people and you can tell they are really putting some love and TLC into this place. It might take a while to get it back there but they are not just skating by. The big teepee out front that used to be a restaurant and gift shop is going to be a coffee shop someday as well. We had an amazing time at the wigwam village. When we arrived the owner came out and gave us a history lesson about the place. It's been there since 1937. He built a bonfire at night and the guests sat around making s'mores. I met some really nice people from England. The room where so cute. I loved the rick rack tile in the bathroom. If you want to experience peak mid-century nostalgic Americana, this is the place for you! The owners have really hit it out of the park, lovingly restoring the old motel to its former glory while subtly updating it with modern luxuries like air conditioning. The wigwams are clean and tidy, and feature much of the original furniture (also meticulously restored). The bed was small, but comfortable. In the evening, there's a campfire in the common area, where you can meet other guests and swap travel stories. Very fun! read more

We were looking for something convenient but out of the ordinary, and Wigwam Village No. 2 absolutely delivered. It's quirky, nostalgic, and just different in the best way. The owner was on-site and even built a fire that evening and guests came out of their wigwams and sat around together and talked. Someone shared marshmallows, and it turned into this fun, low-key community moment. Honestly, that was one of the highlights of an overall great trip. I decided to do a short trip to visit Mammoth Caves . Since it's about 6.5 hrs from Chicago I needed a place to " bed down" . And looking around I found Wigwam Village , BINGO . I when traveling ( all over the world , yes I try to drive in different countries) I also like to give my business to " Ma and Pa" businesses , and rarely have I ever regretted it. Wigwam village is a gem , it was so much fun to stay there . Yes , it very old , I think almost original furniture, but MOST IMPORTANT IT WAS SO CLEAN! I'd rather have old and clean, than brand new and dirty . Anyway, this single senior female stayed there for 3 nights , and loved it . It's small , cuz you're in a TEEPEE ! lol But , in this 90+ hit humid weather, that Teepee was so nice and cold to come home to every day I went " adventuring " . Mattress comfortable , and sheets and towels very clean. I loved that it was tiled or linoleum and not carpeting, so I felt very comfortable walking barefoot, and the soles of my feet were CLEAN! Shower , small, but great water flow for hot and old water . In each room there is a book on the history of the hotel , but when you check in , Keith the owner will give you a brief and very interesting history . At 8 pm , there is a bonfire built in the middle of the grounds where people can socialize and share traveling stories , which I found out about KENTUCKY DOWN UNDER. ANYWAY, great experience and new experience. I just loved it . This was a fun FUN experience , I mean staying in a real Teepee !!!!!!! BTW, lots to do around that area , 3 days plenty of time . read more

Absolute classic Americana:) The owners are wonderful hosts, helpful and accommodating. The cabins are clean and nicely restored with original furnishings plus ac, tv, coffee, etc. ACE Coffee in Cave City made a great start to the day. Evenings are special, with a bonfire where guests can meet and greet (s'mores sticks provided), and lots of room and classic playground equipment for kids to try out. Pets are welcome for a small fee- our cats enjoyed perching on the big 1937 radiator, judging me as I read the provided history of Mr. Redford's chain of seven teepee tourist courts built from 1937 to 1950. No. 2 is the earliest survivor and i've stayed at the other two on Route 66 (Holbrook, AZ and San Bernardino, CA). They are all well-kept and a great experience but No. 2 has a bit of an edge with a nice, semi-rural setting, all the attractions around Mammoth Caves, and Nashville only an hour and a half south. read more

This is an amazing place to stay! Our family of 5 (two adults and three little kids..well 6 including the dog) fit perfectly in one of these cute rooms. The rooms were very clean and the beds were so comfortable. There is even a shower in these cozy things that had enough hot water for all of us. Kids loved the playground and they had lots of other kids to keep them entertained so moms and dads could sit around the nightly campfire. Very good surrounding restaurants and activities as well. Wigwam village is a unique place to sleep, and the site has quite a bit of history to it. (Former gas station, restaurant in the office area, etc). Although ownership of this motel has changed several times over the years, there has been a lack of maintenance to the property. For example, bathrooms could use tile refreshment, Playground has some weird pieces, and towels are more like 60 grit sandpaper.) I think the owners could market this place better if they made better use of the office wigwam. Ice situation was weird: muddy bag of ice in deep freezer in front of owner's house. Fun atmosphere, especially for families with young children. New owners friendly and welcoming. We had a single. Shower was a bit grungy but the rest of our wigwam was spotless. Bed comfy but very narrow for 2 adults. A small "full size". Remote to TV didn't work but that was ok for us. Room temp was set on 62 and there was no way to warm it up. Lovely play area for kids under age 8 or so with nice fire pit. Grass very long and needed trimming and upkeep. Wigwam by train track which had trains blowing their horns all night. It probably wouldn't have been noticed if the the AC fan were on, but it was so cold and that it was off. Definitely would stay again though with my grandkids for the atmosphere! I've wanted to stay here for years and finally got the chance and it was everything I hoped it would be. The village is under new ownership and the new owner is restoring the wigwams to their 1939 fabulousness! The owner is incredible, very friendly, full of information about the history of the motel, ready with dinner or site seeing recommendations. This is an absolute must if you are looking for a unique stay. This was such a fun stay. I stayed from July 3-9 2022. The wigwams have air conditioning, cable, and most importantly- Wi-Fi. Each wigwam has its own parking space and Adirondack chairs for outdoor seating. I stayed a total of 6 nights. They don't have refrigerators so u need to bring your own cooler. They have a surprisingly good sized bathroom with a nice sized stand up shower. It's a park like setting, and has a nice playground for kids. They have nightly bonfires. I was unable to attend any of the bonfires because I was so exhausted from all my travels throughout the day. The new owners are completely renovating the wigwams to their original state back when they were built in 1937. They are stripping the stucco off- waterproofing them and replacing the stucco. They have the original furniture from 1937. If u have forgotten anything, there is a Dollar General across the street. I highly recommend doing the check in with the history of the place. There is a book in every wigwam that discusses the history as well. I def recommend staying in this little piece of history. I look forward to future visits. read more

A unique "glamping" experience. You will be surprised what a great place to stay this is. We were greeted by Keith, the owner. He took the time to greet us and tell us about the full history of the place. The room is cozy with comfortable beds and super clean! There is also fun games and a playground for the kids and a bonfire every night. They are doing renovations but it doesn't take away from the experience. Make sure you are a party of 2, not more At the Priceline website I booked this hotel for 1 adult and 2 kids. I got no error messages. However I got an email saying that it's for 2 adults. My email asking for clarification was not responded. When I came with my kids (12 and 9) I was rudely told to leave. My reservation was cancelled and I believe my card has been charged. Also beware that Priceline and Booking.com are totally unreliable to get the issue resolved. It is probably far better to book in reliable hotels directly. Let me start by saying that most of my traveling consists of me spending the night in a tent, rustic camping with no bathroom or potable water. I would've felt like sleeping in a tent would've been a huge step up from this place. Also, I am not a person who likes to "rock the boat" when it comes to complaining to management. I usually just keep my mouth shut and deal. I wasn't expecting some nice fancy hotel with Wifi (which it was supposed to have, but did not work), just an experience sleeping in an old Wigwam! I was really looking forward to staying for 2 nights in the whimsical, historical Wigwam Village No. 2. When we arrived, we simply dropped our bags off and went out to dinner. Initially it looked charming and quaint, which was what I expected...wasn't very expensive either. When we got back later that night though and pulled the covers down, there were bright orange mystery stains on both ends of the sheets, stray hairs, and what looked like an old piece of a Band-Aid on the blanket. Pretty nasty. Makes you wonder if they even cleaned it at all from the last guests that stayed...we will never know! At this point, we had nowhere else to stay for the night and it was too late to complain, so we sucked it up, and went to sleep. In the morning, I went to the "office" (which was a house behind the village that they wouldn't let me come inside) to cancel my 2nd night stay and ask that they not charge me the cancellation fee since the state of the room was pretty gross. I was told I was the first person in 70 years to ever complain. Right. The lady also told me to call back after 10am to talk to the manager since he was still sleeping... So I called back, and basically the manager tried to make us feel bad stating that it's a hard business to run and he can't babysit his staff that cleans the rooms. He told us we should feel like our money is going towards keeping a historical site running. He made us feel like terribly unreasonable people for not wanting to pay the cancellation fee. He went on and on about how HARD his job is and how he's not making any money. Probably because this is how he runs the business. In retrospect, I'm pretty sure no apology was offered either. It's really a shame that they don't put in a little effort to hire trustworthy employees and do a tiny bit of upkeep on the place, because it's really very cool. Just wish it was in the right hands. Awesome concept, but poorly ran. A little housekeeping and some manners go a LONG way! Bummed to say, thumbs down. read more

We loved our wigwam experience. This is one of three remaining "wigwam" themed motels in the country from the original 7. It was built in 1937 and is now listed among the National Register of Historic Places. Hands down, the best part is that they've hardly changed these rooms since its heyday. Most of our furniture, including the bed frame, was the original hand-crafted wood. And it's not a "Comfort Inn Wigwam Village" either, so no key cards and continental breakfast. You get a key with a big plastic keychain, just like in the old days. There are places to grill and there's a decent-sized fire pit in the center. We bought beers (in the next county -- this one's dry) and enjoyed them out on the lawn while toasting marshmallows with the setting sun. Of course, what other reviewers say about the upkeep of Wigwam Village is pretty much true too. We saw a little mold on our bathroom ceiling. The light fixture flickered. The towels were flimsy and cheap. The communal "ice machine" was half a bag of ice frozen into a solid block. But that's kind of to be expected, given that this place hasn't exactly seen corporate money. I don't think anyone is going to be getting rich off running this business anytime soon. So I'm glad it's open at all. We found the actual accommodation perfectly adequate. I've definitely slept on worse mattresses at B&Bs. WIgwam village is memorable and fun, a living monument to pre-Interstate travel. read more

If you are a stickler for comfort, don't stay here. If you have a sense of wimsey and like a bit of silliness, this is the place for you! There are 14 cement wigwams in a half circle around a playground and fire pit. Each one has a designated parking space. We had a double-double and it was close. The furniture appears to be original from the 1940s. The bathroom is also tiny. The outlets are in short supply and we had to put the coffee pot on the floor to plug it in. How would you like to sleep in a Wigwam? All you have to do is travel off I-65 a short way to Horse Cave, KY. You'll have an experience that you'll talk about for a long time. It's in an out of the way area so don't expect a lot. And especially , don't expect a five star hotel. What you can expect is a unique place, with charm, clean rooms and lots of photo opportunities. I give this place 4 stars just for the experience! Yes, it is old and a bit run down and the check in process was...different, but I loved the uniqueness of staying in a Wigwam! It was close to Mammoth Cave, everyone was extremely friendly, the bed was comfortable and the heaters worked surprisingly well. I was prepared for the worst because of other reviews and left so happy with our cheap, fun stay. We only stayed one night so didn't use the shower but I'm still used dorm showers so it didn't freak me out. My tips are: bring extra blankets--they helped keep the room cozy! Bring some snacks--the only things around are chain places unless you look really hard. Don't make it a week long place! It's a novelty meant to be enjoyed for a few days :) read more

The owner could probably really make bank if he would do a couple things and then he could charge more than he does. He really needs to get rid of the gross play place in the middle of all of the wig wams.. could do a little fixing up- painting the outside of the wig wams, fixing the ice maker, putting light fixtures over bare light bulbs, have the shower floor cleaned.. Why would you not give a night's stay in a teepee in Wigwam Village a 5? It isn't the Hilton so to think it's more than a charming look at a neat room of the 50's is silly! It's small, bathroom is cool and we LOVED it! It was clean! Furniture was probably original but nothing wrong with anything! I feel terrible about this. At one time this place could have been absolutely a pure taste of Anericana. Now, not so much. It has changed ownership and the husband and wife team have let it decline. I was not even able to stay the night here because of the filth and a fear of bed bugs. The sheets are paper thin and the light fixtures are broken in the bathroom. I really wonder the last time the rooms were deep cleaned. If you are to stay here, do not expect a hotel, but more like camping. Bring your own sleeping bag for the added comfort. read more

Rating Wigwam Village is an interesting challenge; this is a great place if you like retro Americana, but as a practical hotel it falls a bit short. I did enjoy my stay there as I loved the vibe. The good: staying in a concrete teepee was a great experience, the room was clean and comfortable; the flat screen TV and cable was good; the decor was nice in a old school way, the bed was comfortable; the staff was friendly and helpful. The bad: the room needed some maintenance there was peeling paint and rain leaked in under the door; if you are tall the bed and the bathroom will be a bit cramped; and the WiFi was very inconsistent. The different: the room and the bathroom have some weird angles; the mirror in the bathroom is at a strange angle that makes your head look extra large; there are no phones in the rooms, although with cell phones this may be the wave of the future; and the gift shop is kind of empty and a bit sad. Overall I really enjoyed my stay, even without all the modern conveniences this was a unique experience. If you want something different this may be the place for you. read more
