Hungry for breakfast... I was in the area and decided to take this convenient area instead of driving around for breakfast and found Wiki Wiki Drive Inn. Offering the usual local "drive in" faves of combination plate, mochiko chicken, sandwiches, and all the breakfast fixings and decided to get the "Eggs & Meat" Mini for $6 and it came with a choice of Portuguese sausage, bacon, link sausage, smoke sausage, spam or ham...whew that's a bunch of choices! along with a scoop of rice it was a great breakfast deal. There was just a single lady working it all making it a bit of a wit for your order if you're in a rush some had made some phone orders which is smart if you already always in the area as parking is very convenient and a great location as there are many seating area already provided by Waterfront Plaza so that you can chill and enjoy your breakfast but don't forget here it's a minimum of $5 for parking validation...super easy! After recovering from a non-covid related fever and cold, I had no energy to prepare lunch for the next day. Eating outside is usually not the healthiest or the best food to eat when still recuperating. I wanted--needed--something warm and easy to digest. Rice soup was the first thing on my mind, and the closest place from Downtown that offered rice soup was Wiki Wiki Drive Inn located in Restaurant Row. Is it still called that? Wiki Wiki Drive Inn is a quick Local Chinese, plate lunch takeout place that's pretty similar to Loco Moco and L&L. I think the people who own it have an L&L too as I noticed an employee wearing an L&L t-shirt. I'm always wary of these places that appear to cater to the Western/Local taste. Well, at least it offers Chicken Rice Soup. Sadly, when I went, they had sold out! The next best thing was Wonton Noodle Soup. I've had awful experiences with local style, super size wontons, full of fatty, sinewy pork, and loads of salt and MSG. Luckily, it was the total opposite, and very good. It was somewhat close to authentic. The broth was light, which was perfect for recovery, and spot on with the chicken based taste and a hint of shrimp/seafood taste. The wontons were decent with slightly bland pork filling. The bad part is these wontons were pre-boiled, dried out, and just sat in a container. The darker tones on the wrapper were obvious, and those parts were dry and tough, so I just shoved them to the bottom to heat up and soften some more. The noodles were the thicker "saimin" variety, not thin Hong Kong style noodles. They were good with some bite to it, but it was on the floury and pasty side. My next visit, I finally got to try the Chicken Rice Soup, and I was not disappointed at all. It was exactly how rice soup should be made with the exploded/broken rice. The taste was slightly on the bland side for me, but still very acceptable. The soup was smooth and creamy with notes of chicken and ginger flavor. The chicken was chunks of chicken thigh, which were tender and tasty. They really need a new photo for their menu. It's totally different from how it's pictured. I thought it was shredded chicken meat at first. My third visit, I ordered some real food. The Honey Garlic Chicken. No one posted a photo of this dish, so I wasn't sure how it looked. My first thought was the fried, bite size version, like L&L, but it wasn't that at all! The chicken was boneless thighs, pan fried nicely, and soaked in a delectable, flavorful honey garlic sauce that was sweet, savory, and garlicky. This was really good! Again, this was on the lighter side, which was no problem. Overall, I enjoyed everything at Wiki Wiki Drive Inn. It really surprised me, and exceeded expectations. The food was light, clean, tasty with spot-on flavors, and dare I say, healthier. It was the opposite of an L&L. The ladies working here are very friendly and cheerful. The prices are definitely affordable for a filling and healthy meal. You can opt for brown rice and tossed salad instead of the usual white rice and mac salad. read more

Considering of all the restaurants in restaurant row, this is one of the cheaper restaurants serving local plate lunch. They give a good amount of size for $7, but the quality isn't as good as the neighboring lunch trucks in downtown: Honey Garlic Chicken - 3 stars - taste is great, more like chicken cutlet, but it was cold because it was sitting out on the burners, and it wasn't kept warmed enough. Horrible customer service. Me and my Bf were stopping by for breakfast and decided to try a new place. We both got plates with rice scrambled eggs and link sausage. Firstly the lady gave me hecka attitude when I asked for Portuguese sausage, because they were out. How was I supposed to know they didn't advertise it lol. And she was rushing us. I'll spend the extra $3-5 at Tamura's or Carval Cafe next door. * Lady is rude as f*** to all (I feel bad because the male - I think it's her husband is total opposite). She's mean to the elderly especially and on multi encounters, security had to get involved because she has no patience with them counting their cash and other patrons wanted to beat her face * Food is not fresh. It's cooked else where and brought here and kept warm in sternal type heater counters * No flavor. Need to add your own salt/pepper * Heaven forbid you ask for a packet of shoyu - she will rip your head off. She charges $0.25 per packet. * Breakfast: DO NOT ORDER the breakfast it's a rip off. They give you just a mere two tong squeezes of (pre-cooked) eggs and spread it out making it appear to be a lot but in fact it's not even one full egg worth that's scrambled. * Lunch: DO NOT ORDER the lunch plates it's a rip off. The mac salad is literally 9 pieces of macaroni, yes I counted because it was such a small scoop (not even a kiddie scoop at Baskin-Robbins to compare) and the portions seem more of a mini not a regular and the mini is even less * The Musubi's are a hit or a miss. Tried this place for the first time yesterday, since I didn't know where else to eat around here. I got a mini kalua pig and cabbage. The portions were a good size, but I ended up getting more cabbage than kalua pig! It also tasted different...Idk how to explain it, but it kind of tasted like it wasn't real pork. It was too funky for me, so I only ate a couple of bites and threw it away. I ended up wasting my $7.00. :( I don't know if I will be back. When I get the cash, I like getting their breakfast croissant with bacon and eggs. It's a reasonable price (about $3). It's accommodating for me since I pass this restaurant every morning. It's a take out place that's run by no more than 5 people it looks like. The people in the front are friendly and service is quick. This is very important when I have to make it on time to work. I enjoyed eating their garlic gravy chicken plate with mac salad and rice. It's like $6 which is reasonable considering it's in town. I swear I only order that meal. haha. Parking is ok. You can get validation if you park at Restaurant Row. For me, I walk here, so no matter (what my son says). Atmosphere isn't too bad. There's seating around Restaurant Row or you can take it to your office and eat. Just as for a bag. Downside is that they only accept cash. I don't normally carry cash so if I don't have, then I walk to the nearby ATM. The cashier will point it out to you. That's why it's minus 1 star. The people who work there are nice enough to me to make small talk since they see me regularly and by this point they've remembered my usual order. I come here from work all the time for lunch. It's a short walk and great way to take a break from the office. The portions here are HUGE! a "Regular" is big enough to feed 2 so a "mini" is guaranteed to fill you up. The food is super cheap too and the staff are all really friendly. The name restaurant row was changed to waterfront plaza, because obviously the owners couldn't find enough good restaurants, much less RESTAURANTS to put in this place lol. This place does take out breakfast and lunch, and is under $10. PROS: The food is under $10 and comes out fast. The food is all ready cooked and hot so if you want to save money and don't have 10 minutes to eat lunch come here. WORKS IN PROGRESS: Going back to the fast food. This is partly in fact because they don't have stoves. Dont have stoves? How do you cook? I've seen them bring in hot food from their delivery trucks. Which I guess that means that the kalua pork that you eat at 1 pm was brought in from somewhere at 8 am. Not sure if I want to eat something several hours old. Reminds me of Perry's Smorgasbord in Waikiki. Basically don't eat the food towards the end of the day. I love when you are pleasantly surprised when trying somewhere new. I go to Restaurant Row every month to see my doctor. Parking tickets must be validated by a local business and that means one of the restaurants, stores or bakeries downstairs. I've tried the cupcake shop (good but expensive), the Korean store (expensive and 3 out of 5) and a few others. But.... I only go to Wiki Wiki Drive Inn Express for about 8 months now. Their menu is crazy with just about anything you want. Even chicken parmigiana, Asian chicken salad, all the favorite locals, almond cookies, musubi and low and behold something I'd not eaten in 20 years. Sweet Rice! Mmmmmm. I have a standing order monthly and she knows exactly when I'm coming to make sure she saves some for me (because usually all gone). It's nothing fancy, but the food "broke da mouth!"
