One of our favorite burger spots. We haven't been here in a while and burgers are just what we remember. My Jam: Double Bacon Deluxe Burger with a side of teriyaki sauce. It's a massive half pound burger with bacon, cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles with the Betty's sauce. Then top it with the teriyaki sauce and umami bomb. The fries are very good too, but took the review a notch down on this occasion. We ordered extra crispy, but it wasn't that crispy. We remembered the large being overloaded in the bag, but now it's not as much. They have parking in the back with I believe up to 1 hour free. Then entrance is right after Betty's. I love burgers and Betty doesn't disappoint. It is tiny place on University Ave, they have paid parking in back. If you do the QR thing correctly, I believe the first hour is free. The burgers are legit, smashed grilled to perfection, but the fries are extra. My wife had the salad and she loved it. The milkshakes are very yummy as well. The service is nice once you get through the line. This a location with weird parking lot, small local store, but yummy food kind of place that you should check out. read more

Coming from SoCal, the smashburger capital, I thought Betty's was aight. I thought the retro diner design was unique and fun, and they have a big menu. I just got their simple hamburger and the patty was on the saltier side but tasted good with the soft bun. I ordered the blue cheese and bacon burger and the patty was cooked too perfection. Loads of blue cheese and top with two strips of crispy bacon. After a few minutes, the gentleman handing out the orders called my name and came directly to me with the bag. I hurried home knowing my wife was waiting for lunch. We cut each sandwich in half, and I pointed out the spicy one to my wife. She tasted it and remarked that it was just a little spicy, but that it tasted good anyway. After finishing that one, she tried the Shroom and Guac but didn't like the taste. By then, she was too full to try the Deluxe with Cheese, so I ended up tasting everything and finishing the rest. For me, the Shroom and Guac was a little too mushy, making it hard to pick out the taste and texture of the mushrooms. The Spicy Burger was okay, but it seemed that the only thing making it spicy was a few slices of jalapenos. Saw this place online and decided to walk from our hotel to try it, very close by Waikiki! We got the spicy burger and the chicken teriyaki burger along with a small order of fries. Fast forward to a couple days ago when I had a hamburger at another place and it was so bad (they mixed the meat with something to stretch it) I craved a real hamburger. So yesterday we stopped by. Located on University Avenue going up towards U.H. Of Hawaii on the right side they have a parking lot. They do not validate parking, but if you are there for less than 1 hour parking is free. It was so hot I don't know if the air conditioner was broken or they don't have air conditioning, because they had fans going in the dining area. I ordered the Betty's Burger it was pretty dry and not juicy, it was not the best burger I ever had. The onion rings were very good it looked like they cut their own onions and batter them, the onion rings came out hot and crispy and the inside was real onion. The French fries were gold and it came out hot and crispy. My wife had the teriyaki burger and said it was okay, but on the messy side. While the lot looks small and tight, there is additional parking in the structure through the initial lot tucked in Puck's Alley. It is just a bit steep to drive up to the additional parking. The restaurant itself has some seating outside and inside. It has a retro, diner sort of feeling to it. There are lots of colors, some umbrellas, and metal tables. When walking into the restaurant, the counter is straight ahead. The people working are friendly, and they were efficient with our order. We got Betty's Classic Burger, Bacon Deluxe Burger with Cheese, fries, a peanut butter shake, and a blueberry shake. The burgers were good -- they were tasty and filling. The fries were also a good size and had some flavor to them. They reminded me a bit of Popeyes fries. The peanut butter shake was so good. First time here and I am in love with the homey feel!! We moved here from LA and it reminds me of the little diners you find on random adventures with an island twist. So...the expectations coming into this, I knew how many earlier reviews on Betty's where they weren't that great. Honestly, the experience wasn't bad. I always pass this place every single time I went to a UH game, but I guess today was a good time to maybe do a review on it. On the surface, this looked like the something I'd get if I wanted the perfect combo meal. Individually, all three of their items were good. Where do I start...? Burger - Delicious, they gave a good amount of guacamole. They also had a decent amount of mushrooms as well. The BB sauce was really tasty and they used just the right amount of it. Too much, and it would have made it a bit messy. Individually, the components work. The only thing I might have had a gripe with was the patty itself. A hair underseasoned, yes, as perhaps a bit of finishing salt would have gone a very long way because this probably would have been one of my favorite burgers for sure, and not just in terms of price since their burgers mostly are within the $10 or less range. Fries - Probably my favorite out of the many places I've had French Fries anywhere else. Well-seasoned, crispy, and they give a good amount of it for a small. Milkshake - The chocolate flavor comes out front and then there's the strawberry aftertaste the very next. Super tasty and it's not thick in terms of consistency.
