My partner and I came by overlord chicken after I mentioned repeatedly that I would like to try their fried chicken & mala tang again. Service is good, more self service leaning, you just go and order at the counter and cashier will bring the order to you. The mala tang process goes, grab a bowl, pick out desired items, choose broth & spice level, they will weight, you pay, they prep and bring it out. Their selections for the mala tang is less than before and is now 19.99/LBS, with a 0.9lbs minimum. We got the traditional spicy level 2 and it was solid, not too spicy and good to enjoy and even drink the broth. We also got one spicy chicken leg and 2 drumsticks. The chicken were all very crispy and juicy. Not SUPER flavorful as I would've liked but good enough to stand against other standard fried chicken spots. It was clearly fried and made fresh though, as it was piping hot. We would definitely come back again, it was solid semi fast last night "comfort" food.

Wanted to get malatang so came here. options are wide but quality could be a little more premium since they're currently charging $20/lb (01/26). I would want more higher options for that price. got their Tomato base with spicy level 3 and Bone broth spicy level 2. both were good but the bone broth one is a little bland. Spicy level 2 and 3 are both spicy so be careful. Also got their Combo #4 chicken, comes 4 ways which is a great deal and great amount. also really good flavors too. young lady in the front doesn't speak much english, so anything out of her script, she won't understand. Food takes about 20 mins to come out during 6-8pm so be prepared to wait a little. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tables inside are limited so grab a table after you order[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

It's all about the food here at Overlord which is very good. Known for their fried chicken, this is an absolute must. The menu is diverse so feel free to be adventurous. While parking is limited, you can find street parking in front of the restaurant and on surrounding side streets. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service here is friendly and the restaurant itself is intimate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely get a whole fried chicken and some sides. Really really delicious. It's BYOB here too, so if you want to to enjoy some...bring some.

Mixed bag... We came here because a rave review from a YouTuber. Good news is their Combo #6 is a great deal which is more than enough food for 3 for less than $60. This comes with popcorn chicken, strips, sandwiches whole fried chicken fries and drinks. Out of all of the food, chicken sandwich is hands down the best. Crispy and moist and even has a hint of heat. One of the better sandwiches out there. Popcorn chicken is ok... Nice balance of meat and coating. Same for strips. Whole chicken came out temperature hot. Skin is very crispy and meat is moist. What's wrong? No flavor at all in the skin or meat.. as if trying to reduce the sodium for the meal. Very disappointed. Fries is ok.. Took a while to get the food and AC was broken. Summer months will be brutal. Recommend take out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is new so decor is nice and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Interesting.. most of the diners opted for their make your own soup (btw is by pound and minimum is $20).

Drove along Kapahulu Ave and noticed the signs for Mala Tang at 'Overlord Fried Chicken'. We wanted to try and found street parking - a stall available right in front. It was our first time there, so we took time to figure out the picture menus and concept for the Mala Tang. Slight language barrier with the worker but we ordered 2 bowls of Mala Tang with fried chicken & sausages to share. Asian bottled drinks available in the fridge. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Casual seating area available to eat there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We waited as our food was freshly made to order. I had the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup... spice level 2 was perfect for me - slight kick. Hubz got the Spicy Bowl with rice... spice level 4. Bowls were great... and the standout was their Fried Chicken - perfectly seasoned and fried with a beautiful crispy coating. No wonder they are called 'Overlord Chicken' - their chicken is truly supreme with masters in the kitchen. We enjoyed the fried Taiwan Sausages too. All in all, a wonderful 1st experience here, and we would definitely return.

One of my FAVORITE restaurants! I personally love mala and anything Chinese herb (numbing sensation) so I was happy to find out that they reopened in Kapahulu. The restaurant is joint with the Overlord Chicken. Parking is available on Kapahulu or we usually find a spot on Date street and walk over. The ingredients seem to be fresh every time we go in and the service is quick and friendly. They charge you by the weight (you choose what to put in your soup) and for a pretty big amount, we were charged about $20 per person. I definitely recommend this place if you enjoy Chinese hot pot!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This was a wonderful late(ish) night place, however, there is a lack of parking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's street parking but that's always a hit or miss. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They were completely empty when our party arrived, but that was worked out in our favor as we didn't realize how small the dine in area was.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were able to push almost all of the tables together and fit our large party of 25 people.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There are so many options offered and we ordered a bunch of options to split amongst the table family style. We also got the build your own spicy hot pot which was delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately, you also have to walk outside to the back of the restaurant to use their bathroom which isn't super clean, and as it was late at night, I needed someone to walk with me around the corner for safety.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

+ I've been following them since the Oahana Hale and McCully Shopping Center days. Great to see that they now have their own restaurant with an expanded menu including fried chicken and Mala Tang + Free street parking along Date St, or metered street parking in front of the restaurant on Kapahulu. + Build-Your-Own hot pot / Mala tang / noodles is a lot of fun. + Choose your own numbing and spicy options. The soup is always hearty and warming and flavorful even with the non-spicy or mild options. + Popcorn chicken is tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. + [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice and bright and clean ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] + Speedy and attentive services. + Reasonable pricing

Overlord Fried Chicken isn't just a name, it's an attitude. If you don't know what you're looking for, you'll walk right by. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tucked into a spot with serious dive bar energy with loud flavors and great tastes, this place feels like the kind of place you stumble into at midnight and never want to leave.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The kitchen here is a straight-up flavor laboratory run by mad geniuses in aprons. The fried chicken is not just fried it's baptized in flavor. Perfectly crisp on the outside, gloriously tender on the inside, and seasoned like someone dared them to go too far and thank God they did. You can go classic, get lit with the hot, or go full Overlord and let the spice obliterate your taste buds in the best way possible. Their crispy, spicy, juicy excellence comes in steaming hot with serious intentions to conquer your hunger and burn your tastebuds. But wait, it gets better. The dumpling soup here is criminally underrated. Big portions with insane flavors! This is not the place for a polite salad. This is where you roll up your sleeves, destroy a plate of wings, sip something strong and cold, and leave wondering what just happened (but in a good way). Come hungry. Leave conquered. All hail the Overlord.

    * Food poisoned* 4am in the morning and still in the toilet:( Went here around 11pm with co-wokers after a busy night of working. I ordered a comb 2 which includes a chicken sandwich, fried chicken leg, a French fries and a soda. I asked for spicy for my sandwich and fried chicken legs. After first bite of the sandwich, I realized that it's not spicy at all, so I asked the guy, are these all spicy? he said yes, and I told him it's not spicy at all. Guess what? He just ignored me and walked away. So I left no tips for him. ( I was gonna give cash after eating) Never come back again, not just because of food poisoning, but also because of bad service, and the way they handle the situation.

However, after having to abandon our original dinner plans, we were no less intrigued after randomly stumbling across this place. While they may not have been our first choice for dinner, coming here was far more appealing than eating fast food or at the nearby IHOP! Although seeing so many folks at this mini food truck park may have been what caught our attention, it was the boxes of fried chicken on nearly every table that swayed us to try Waikiki Chicken in Paradise in particular. After skimming the menu, it wasn't hard to see why they were such a popular choice - everything on it sounded great. Granted, that's not overly difficult when there are only eight items to choose from, but tough to argue with the likes of fried chicken loco moco, fried chicken curry rice, fried chicken sandwiches, chicken & croffle, and fish & chips! Since we saw how big the portion were and didn't want anything too heavy (read: sadly, no loco moco or Japanese curry), we opted to split a FRIED CHICKEN RICE PLATE ($16.95) which came with a Fried Chicken Cutlet over White Rice with Mac Salad & Green Salad. Funny enough, despite already having a sense of how much food they give, I was still surprised by the generous portion size. As for how it all tasted, this was great. The breading on the chicken reminded me of Popeye's (though, without the spice), the batter was crispy, and the chicken itself was rather moist. As for the sides, the mac salad was pretty good, but the salad was a little heavy on dressing. If there was one thing I could change about our order, I think I'd want to see how it would taste with a sauce or glaze. At the very least, I'd definitely go with a different dipping sauce, like their Pineapple Ginger, Lilikoi Mayo, or Guava BBQ, as the Honey Mustard we went with tasted a bit generic. Of course, we could've solved both problems if we had gone with the Fried Chicken Loco Moco or Fried Chicken Curry Rice instead! I guess I'll just have to wait until the next time I'm in Waikiki!

They actually cut in half 5 pieces of the Chicken Backs and each 1/2 counted as a piece of overcooked chicken jerky! I also got a 1/3 of a breast section with bones and not even a 1/2 of a thigh. That totals my 10 pieces. More bones and excess crispy flour then consumable meat. NOBODY gives a Chicken back (or 1/2 a back)! Not Popeyes, not KFC or Zippy's who will remain my Favorite because I will only get ripped off the 1st time, never again. Additionally, they make you buy the sauce, the reason is due to no seasoning on the over floured bread...but it IS Crispy! The Chicken tenders were overcooked and REALLY Chewy around the edges. Just a LOT of breaded Crispy with no flavor, what "Chef" doesn't even use salt? Really, if you're going to risk testing this food, PAY for some sauce! I hope the Owner reads this and realizes that ripping people off by selling broken pieces that most Chef's throw away because they have so little meat on them, isn't going to keep him in business. The profit margin may be up while folks are trying it, spending their hard earn $$$'s, yet not coming back will be the ultimate demise of this business as many other have come and gone doing the exact same thing, not putting themselves in he patron's position. Ask yourself this: When was the last time you saw a bowl of whole chicken pieces and immediately grabbed one that was back bone chopped in half?

Parking is tough because of the area but there are a few spots out front, would generally recommend calling ahead so parking is less stressful. Their menu was a little confusing to me so here is some explanation: K pop chicken- boneless chicken pieces K chicken wings- flats and drumettes (the two parts of a larger chicken wing) K chicken tenders- boneless tenders only K crispy chicken- full wings, thighs, and breast pieces They offer each of these items as a plate lunch too, with a smaller portion of chicken that comes with rice and salad. I personally like the K chicken wings for the variety and higher meat to skin ratio but my husband really likes the K chicken wings. The skin is shatteringly crispy and flavorful and the meat is juicy. Their honey shoyu sauce is the perfect balance of sweet and salty. You can also request the sauce on the side. I've also had the fried rice which was decent and generously portioned. We once had a complimentary house salad given to us which was unexpected kindness. Overall they do a great job serving up a delicious craveable food that keeps us coming back!

When you're always on the hunt for great fried chicken, you can't really pass up a place literally called "Good Chicken" and they definitely lived up to the name! The establishment is cute and cozy with tables available for dine-in. As soon as we walked up, we were kindly greeted and a table was set up for us immediately. After getting settled into our hotel, we were starving, and everything on the menu looked incredible. We ended up ordering the Garlic Chili and the Honey Shoyu chicken. It was exactly what you want when you're craving KFC. The sauces were spot on, chicken had a perfect crunch in every bite and the meat was incredibly tender. To make our dinner feel like a complete, we also added a few other items to the table. We had the pork mandoo and loved that it was clearly homemade, you could really taste the difference. Those extra sides were the perfect finishing touch to the feast. To be honest, if it weren't for this staycation, we probably wouldn't have headed into this part of Waikiki, but I'm so glad we did. The chicken skin had a nice crunch to it and the meat was juicy (not super oily, but juicy.) The mashed potatoes and gravy weren't bad. They were not super fluffy but a little more on the dense side. It's been a few years since I've gone to a Jolly Bee and I had imagined the spaghetti to only be sweet and savory. It was actually pretty good! (Not in an Italian way though. It was a little spicy, which I loved! I wasn't expecting it to be spicy so it was a very pleasant surprise! It was a tad sweet...just the right amount! (There isn't a 3-piece combo on the menu, but the server was kind enough to accommodate my request for an extra piece of chicken.) It came with a container of gravy that made me wonder what it was for, immediately. Then I remembered all the commercials and YouTube videos where food reviewers either slathered their chicken with the gravy or they dunked it into the gravy. I was so hungry that I forgot for a few seconds that the gravy was for the chicken, thus I drank most of the gravy!! The dining area is constantly cleaned and draws a diverse crowd. Because it is at the beginning of downtown it does attract some homeless people as well. But, that's life in the big city, right? Everything was delicious, but my favorite was the deep fried eggplant with shrimp. As an eggplant lover, I appreciated how well it was prepared, and the shrimp were large and juicy. Each dish was fresh and flavorful. I do wish there was a slightly larger menu selection. I was hoping to order egg custard tarts for dessert, but they didn't have it. Fortunately, the lava custard sesame balls were yummy! Service was efficient, and the restaurant itself was spacious and clean. While Tim Ho Wan is a bit pricier than some other dim sum spots, it's kinda expected given its well-known name and for being in Waikiki. Overall, it's a solid choice when you're craving quality dim sum and you're near Waikiki!
