I used to buy a Lunch Special A all the time in the past, going back to the 70's. Yes, I'm old. It became part of Vicky's Filipino Fast Food in 2009, but it tasted the same so I continued to buy Special A every now and then. Rada's closed for a while, but I was walking up Fort Street Mall and saw it open so I went to see if anything changed. Option A is comprised of a chicken piroscki, fried squid and a nice green salad with a wonderful dressing. I dip pieces of piroscki into the salad dressing. The price is now $9.50 ... It was $5.25 the last time I bought the plate. Oh well, this is the reality in 2026. The food tastes the same, it's still delicious and the aroma of the fried squid just spreads throughout my office. It was five years since I last been here. I thought I'd give it another try. If you read my previous review, I've been eating at this place since I was a kid. It's not the same as before though. I got a beef, cheese and cabbage piroscki for $3, which is a great deal. It was served warm with the cheese oozing with the beef and cabbage. The seasoning was adequate without being overpowering. The outside of the piroscki was fried crispy. It really did hit the spot. Calamari is one of my favorite items. I almost always order it when I eat out. This place used to have the best calamari hands down, even better than those fancy restaurants. However, it's just not the same as before. It still has a great flavor, but it has been sitting and served cold. I'm sure it would be much better if they served it hot out of the fryer like before. C'mon, calamari doesn't take that long to fry. Make small batches when people order it rather than making one big batch and just letting it sit. read more

Is it Piroscki or Piroschki? Well either way Rada's Prioscki in downtown apparently have been here for awhile and from what I've heard is that they closed at one point, probably due to covid has opened back to the delight of many. Sharing the space with Vicky's Filipino Fast Food they do have a quick order window if you're just specifically picking yup a Piroscki though since the ladies work both counters they tend to brush you off until the line settles down which is what happened to me as I patiently waited and realized it wasn't happening and went it and got serviced immediately even though there was another guest waiting at the window. Well it worked because I did end up getting something from Vicky's as well and since they had some seating inside took advantage of that to grab a quick bite. Besides the Piroscki (Beef or Cheese) they have a lunch special as well that comes with fried squid with a tossed salad. Well it seems like basically everything is fried here besides their famous Piroscki, Fried Squid and Vegetable Lumpia so of course when I got my Prioscki (Beef, Cheese & Mushrooms) it was hella greasy this oval shaped bun is premade and filled with meat which was decently flavorful, I love me some grease but this was beyond what I could handle and the filling was okay I tried just scooping it out but my belly tapped out as it was just too much. What's frustrating is that the window is secondary and the food tasted like they haven't changed the oil for months which is sad because this could've been something I go on and on to rave about. read more

My husband introduced me to the original location of Rada's 31+ years ago. We miss seeing the pirosckis being fried in the huge vat right before our eyes, but the taste is still the same. Delicious!! It was the first time our son ate it and he's hooked. The piroscki and squid were freshly fried, so it was exactly as we remembered (the pirosckis are ready around 10:30-10:45 am). The lunch plate includes your choice of piroscki, fried squid, and green salad with a refreshing dressing. Because we went on a Saturday, we found street parking near the Hawaii Theater. My boyfriend's dad grew up on these pirosckis, and wanted to show us when we came to visit family. It's hidden off the street, and easy to miss if you don't know where to look. It shares a storefront and interior with a Filipino takeout place. We all ended up getting number 1s, which came out fresh and super hot. The outside was golden and crispy, definitely greasy, but the inside was soft and flavorful. The meat was amazing! We also got some fried squid, which was good as well. We had come in the morning, so all of the fried food was a little heavy. There isn't much room to sit inside, but it's cozy. There is no public restroom. read more

Hard to get parking but worth trying if you are walking around downtown. Love the beef cheese mushroom piroscki- ask for the hot sauce if u like spicy as it adds a nice kick to the crunchy outer layer and yummy melted inside. The taste has been consistent since the 80s. If you like fried chicken skin go on fridays as they sell fried chicken skin which is super crunchy and well seasoned. Decades ago, a friend of mine suggested we go get piroshki for lunch. I had no idea what it was. All I remember is that we were in downtown and ordered through a window. My first time having a piroshki, it made an impression. It was delicious and heavy! One piece was enough for me to last me to dinner. Fast forward twenty years, I go down Bishop Street, where I thought the shop was located. I couldn't find it and wrote it off as another business that closed down. Change of plans had me headed to Marugame and what do I see? Rada's Piroshki! Was it always on Fort Street? Or did they move? That was the question that ran through my head. Reverting back to plan A, I order a beef and chicken piroshki. Then I thought about the guys in the office. They probably never heard of a piroshki. So I ended up getting a half dozen each. Back at the office, I offer a piece to my coworkers who as predicted, never heard of a piroshki. After explaining to them that it's basically a pastry with meat filling: round one is chicken, football shaped is beef. They cautiously take a bite and slowly, a smile of approval forms! I can't figure out what kind of spices other than salt and pepper are mixed in, but it's not overbearing to the point where it drowns out the beef or chicken flavor. Everybody in the office is hooked on Rada's Piroshki! I had some left over, so a couple of them took it home to their wives and they too got hooked! It's literally just a small window operating right next to Vicky's filipino restaurant, and they have only a handful of menu options. There are only three types of piroscki's to choose from, and they were out of mushrooms on the day we went so actually for us there was only one choice LOL Its reminiscent of a Japanese curry pan - delicious from the oil while not being toooooo oily. The outside is crisp and the inside is fluffy. The meat filling was also really good - the flavors were very mild and not too heavy which was nice, since the bread itself will weigh you down. read more

I have never heard of this place and don't even know what kind of food this is! LOL! If you ask someone what a Piroscki is, it looks like a big potato tempura filled with a filling of your choice or a oblong type malasadas with no sugar filled with a filling of your choice. Service is excellent as most of the items are pre-made. You them find this establishment in fort street mall downtown, it's a little hole in wall shop. Always went for their pirosckis but today but also ordered their talong torta (like an eggplant omelette except the eggplant is not chopped up so it's whole). I asked if there were any meat in it, just like how my mom made, and they said no. But I came home and tasted it and it's so good and so flavorful. Sir, we've found it. We've finally found it. The mystical, hidden valley of super cheap eats. Where you can get full for a mere $2 not on fast food burgers. The land of delicious fillings, golden brown crusts, and barely dented wallets. The sheltered El Dorado lunch city of Rada's Piroscki. Located on Fort Street Mall in Vicky's Filipino Café, Rada's Piroscki has been a downtown institution for decades serving Piroski, which is in Hawaiian terms a massive fried manapua, Russian style in three styles: Beef/cheese/mushroom, beef/cheese/cabbage, and chicken/cheese/mushroom. They also offer squid lunch plates and vegetable lumpia. There's a takeout window for you busy downtown workers, but the inside of the restaurant isn't that clean, so probably best to grab and go. Buying all three pirosckis for lunch is arguably the best worst idea I've had all month. For $2 apiece, I expected relatively small fried filling filled doughballs, but what I got was two oblong and one spherical heavy but roaring hot fried shaped vehicles of flavor. I started to feel "I ate too much" sick half way through the beef/cheese/cabbage realizing I still had half of the beef/mushroom and the chicken to eat. The fillings were tasty, with tender shredded chicken and ground beef, cooked cabbage, melted cheddar (?) cheese, but I didn't notice any mushroom, but they could be cut up finely. The dough itself is greasy, to the point I just stopped eating the fried outside bread and whipped out a fork to eat them like a pot pie. For $6 after tax, I didn't feel bad ditching much of the fried dough. Thank goodness this is workout day. Rada's is hardcore good cheap eats, but seriously, just don't get all three for one person in one meal. read more

I have been eating Rada's Piroscki for as long as I can remember. When I was a small kid, it was a special lunch treat we got when we went downtown to visit Dad's office. These days, I don't go Downtown too often, so I rarely partake in Rada's, but with all the pandemic closures, I found myself craving the deep fried treats. I began thinking about them last night, and those thoughts lingered this morning as I walked through Costco. Once my purchase was made, I got in my car and called my sister. I mean, if I'm going to drive downtown, it better be for more than one piroscki. With my sister approving of my lunch plans, I headed downtown. I lucked out and got street parking a block away and walked to Rada's. The shop is on Fort Street Mall, a small section of a Filipino restaurant-a take out window. I got my gluttonous order (a total of 12 piroscki) and found out they take cash and cards (previously it had been cash only). Piroscki are ground meat, mixed with spices, cheese, and mushrooms, encased in a slightly sweet dough, then deep fried. The crunchy, slightly greasy, treat is exactly that. read more

Love the crispy outside of the Piroscki and the gooey flavorful inside. Each time I'm around the area, I always make it a priority to see if they're Open! Piroscki or piroshki, means "small pie or pastry" in Russian. They are individually sized deep fried buns with savory fillings. Did someone mention deep fried? Now you've got my attention! I recall Rada's Piroscki back in the 1980's. They were next to the current restaurant location of "Rain" along Fort Street Mall. Back then it was Kentucky Fried Chicken and nearby you would find Kress and Woolworth. As a kid born and raised in Chinatown I'd come to Fort Street Mall often. I vividly remember the glass window where you saw 2 elderly Filipino ladies deep frying pirosckis and baskets of squid. One of my calabash aunts introduced me to Rada's Piroscki and it was a real treat when I had one. With my Chinese background I'd describe piroscki to be a Russian JIN DUI but with a more dense yeast bread like exterior deep fried with a savory filling seasoned with dill. Keep in mind dill can be an overpowering herb so this may not be for you. I somewhat forgot about Rada's when I stumbled upon them one afternoon looking for a snack. I wasn't in a mood for a donut or a burger. I walked up to the counter that is shared with Vicky's Filipino Fast Food. They currently offer 3 types (chicken cheese mushroom, beef cheese mushroom or beef cheese cabbage) at $1.92 each. They are generously stuffed with their filling and packed with flavor. Eating one is quite satisfying. If your body can handle more grease you've got to try their deep fried squid. Disclosure: VERY ADDICTING. Don't blame me if you get hooked on these. If you like fried calamari you'll be sure to enjoy these. A small bag of squid is $2.39. They also have lunch specials where you can get a combo so check out their menu. This was a interesting find in the heart of Downtown Honolulu. It isn't everyday that you find Eastern European food in a Filipino restaurant. This simple and cheap grab and go gut buster Piroscki shop was fairly decent. I have to say, for a little restaurant in the downtown area, the service was very friendly and quick. I was immediately asked what I wanted with a smile and graciously thanked. Even asked if I needed help by someone working hard in the kitchen that didn't noticed the other lady had already attended to me. The pirosckis were hot and fresh, but deep fried, so they are why I call them gut busters. Probably just what you need after a heavy night of drinking in the morning. Ordered the beef, cabbage and cheese which was a mildly seasoned filling that went well with the deep fried pasty covering. One thing for sure, the price was right. It came to exactly $2 with tax, so it made for a cheap snack that didn't break the wallet and was probably a much better choice then ordering from the McDonald's dollar menu. They also had a very reasonable lunch combination plate with fried calamari and salad for only $5.50. So hard to get a cheap deal these days and this place has got them. If a piroscki is not what you are in a mood for, the other side of the restaurant is Vicky's and they have assume Filipino food. What is a Piroscki? Well the best way I can describe it is - it's a deep fried chewy bun, packed with a delicious meat (beef or chicken), cheese, & vegetable filling. Kinda like a Russian "manapua?" Lol! My co-worker was talking about this Russian delicacy called a "Piroscki" that was sold at a place called Rada's Piroscki in downtown Honolulu. Since I've never had a Piroscki before, rest a sure I was pretty game today to have my very first Piroscki today. I remembered when I was working in Seattle a few years back, I saw a Russian bakery by Pikes Market Place that advertised the Piroscki.........but at that time, I had no idea what it was, so I ended up buying something else from that Russian bakery. I'm glad I was finally able to try this delicious delicacy today........and I must say, it was very YUMMY! This little shop in located on the Fort Street Mall next to a "Smoothie Drink Shop". The sign is not that visible from the strip mall, so if you see the McDonald's on Fort Street Mall. Just go up the mall till you see a Vita Smoothie Drink Shop, and Rada's Piroscki is just next door. Rada's is a little hole in the wall place, and the decor has seen better days..............if you're looking for fine dining........ it is definitely not! But if you're looking for a Piroscki, or for Filipino comfort fast food........then you've come to the right place! I gotta tell you folks a little funny thing about Rada's Piroscki.........although the store advertises the Piroscki, & it appears to look like a Russian cuisine kinda place..........when you walk into this place, the store is run by Filipino people, and they also served a lot of Filipino fast food stuff. My love for Piroshkis originated right here in the heart of downtown Honolulu at Rada's Piroscki. Back when I was growing up they actually had their own storefront in the Fort Street Mall area. Now, however, it seems they have downsized and are operating out of a small window on the side of some Filipino take out shop. I'm not complaining though. As long as they are still available I don't care if it comes out of a vending machine, I will still buy them. There are just three options available for piroshkis from this place, and by far the best one is the beef, cheese and mushroom. The filling is smooth and tasty. You can clearly get the strong taste of Russian spices coming out through this pastry. The breading is just the right thickness and the outside is perfectly deep fried into a golden crisp. Overall, this is the benchmark that I hold all other piroshkis to no matter where I go. I hope that they never stop serving these as they are, in my opinion, the best I have ever had. read more

Took three tries but I was finally able to get here when they were open. Wanted to try all three types of pirosckis, but they were out of the beef cheese and cabbage. (Based on other reviews, this seems to be a common occurrence.) I settled for a chicken cheese and mushroom and a beef cheese and mushroom for a total of $4. These did not look like any pirosckis I've had before, and unfortunately did not taste like them, either. The crusts were crunchy and over-fried. Even with time to drain, they were still oily. The fillings were generous but the taste of both was sour, not savory, and not pleasant. Maybe they're a Filipino interpretation of Russian piroshkis? If you want inexpensive and filling, these are fine. But if you are used to Russian piroshkis and/or want something that tastes good, skip the ones I had. Maybe the squid is good. read more
