In Pigeon Forge there's a lot of choices. We tried the Wild Bear Tavern simply because the traffic on the road was bad. It was very fortunate because the food was really good. This is a place not to be missed wether for a drink or meal. We came in here for lunch one afternoon. Their selection is not too bad and they have a full bar. Our server was amazing she was fast and kept the tea glass filled. I ordered a schnitzel and it was super good. The food is tasty and reminded me of my trip to Europe. I love the atmosphere of this place. It's decorated very nice. The food was good. My favorite was the potato cakes and pretzel. The cheese that comes with the pretzel is delicious. The only thing I'm not loving is how late lunch starts on the weekend. I hope they consider changing that to 11am. There are a thousand places I can get a pancake in this town but I can't just go anywhere and get what's on the rest of the menu. Use that to your advantage and make the food available earlier. read more

Coming in and not really liking German food or really beer for that matter I was amazingly blown away! I absolutely absolutely ABSOLUTELY loved the food. The Pan Fried Potatoes were a great start; The Schnitzel was amazing with the Spatzle and Cheese. The Apfelsteudel- which is made to order was THE BEST! Lisa was our server and she gave us one of the best experiences any of us had. She was so good with my hyper loud 3 year old nephew who was on his best behavior for her. I'm bring generous with 3 stars...went for breakfast as we were staying at the Wood Bear Lodge and it included coupons for free all you can eat pancakes (but everything else costs, e.g. drinks, or any other breakfast food). We went at 8:05 - and there were two couples in front of us and we're not seated for 20 minutes (mind you it is covid land still) but there was only a host, a server and a server-in-training. The host barely stayed at the check-in desk and several were confused what to do and the host wasn't there to communicate anything. The server+1 handled a single table at a time, and it took significantly longer than it really should have. We ordered the pancakes and two coffees; pancakes were really good and I would have liked to get a second stack bit didn't want to wait for how long it would take. Further, when we received the bill instead of taking off the pancakes, they only took 50% off them ... we didn't want to argue but we sure didn't go back for breakfast any more days during our stay. Well, we thought since plenty of reviews said the food was good otherwise, we went back tonight but only needed something light so ordered the giant Bavarian pretzel, with mustard and cheese sauce. Instead of receiving a fresh hot giant pretzel, we received a large wood plate of 5 or 6 small warm pretzels with cold mustard and also cold cheese that might have been sauce. Needless to say, quite disappointing. I can only hope others experience something better. At least for dinner, the server was fast but that's all I have to say. read more

Idk if the in person dining is just drastically different or what. But we decided to have food delivered from here after reading rave reviews- got the chicken sandwich pretzels, and apple pastries. We were really disappointed. None of it was even kind of good. The Apple dessert was so bland, no flavor, no cinnamon or sugar taste at all. All of the food was so bad, we took a few bites and threw it away- and we never do that. I hope this isn't a common experience and maybe we just got them on a really really really bad night. read more

My husband and I stopped in this cute little restaurant on our way out of town. We had the Leberkase melt. It was delicious! The sausage was so tasty and flavorful! It was a good recommendation from our waitress who was very helpful in recommending something we would like! They have a full bar with all the specialty beers. I went against my better judgement and made reservations. We got there and we were sat pretty quickly. Then we sat with no one. He king on us for several minutes while two other tables were sat in our section. We see one server come to greet another table, then the second server came to greet the other table sat after us and we had enough. We told the hostess at the front to receive a blank stare. We had the pretzel and it was buttery and delicious with the mustard. Wow......just wow! What a hidden gem my family and I stepped into. From the outside it looks deceiving being attached to a hotel. However once you open the doors, you are in for a treat. The inside is very nice and updated in appearance. The food.....oh the food. I started with a Caesar salad, which was one of the best I ever had. I'm a Caesar snob and this one was both HUGE and delicious. Also got the pork shank and spatzle. Both were simply amazing. The wife got the brat burger with potato pancake.....again both were amazing with the potato pancakes being special. I actually regret not being able to try all the sides. Our server Morgan was very nice and constantly checked on us without feeling like she was hovering. If you are in town, skip the tourist trap eateries and come here. The a/c was set at 68 degrees. I am still frozen. The menu looks great but the food does not match authentic in the restaurant's name. My advice is go to Germany for authentic food. Trust it from someone with real German ancestors. There is a restaurant in Sanford, FL that has a similar menu and could teach this place a few lessons. read more

This place exceeded my expectations. We stayed at the Inn and spent quite a lot of time in the tavern. They have good German beer and exceptional food. I loved the Oktoberfest draft. First night I ordered chicken wings with buffalo sauce and blue cheese but normally it comes with beer mustard so I gave it a try. Oh man, I gotta admit wings with that mustard goes really well with beer! Also, it was the best mustard I've ever had! Second night I tried the schnitzel. It was fantastic! Checked in the day before Christmas via phone to see if they were going to be open for Christmas and was told yes. The poor manager was struggling because nobody prepped the food for him and his workers came in super later unfortunately due to the bad snow storm that came in the previous night, so he was serving people the best he could, but it's was jammed packed he was just a bit over whelmed. He was telling us that he couldn't accept more people and that he should close but every time a solo family came by he'd let them in and sit down. You could tell he was just a super sweet old man and he didn't wanna hurt peoples feelings on Christmas, poor thing. Manager was super sweet and handled everything professionally. The food was excellent, especially regarding the fact that they were struggling to handle the influx of people. They made everyone feel comfortable and at home, and no one was complaint about the wait time since the service and hospitality was top notch. 10/10 would recommend, and we will definitely be coming back, and big thanks and cheers to the manager that helped everyone of Christmas Day. read more

For lunch one day I had the schnitzel salad, and my husband had the bratwurst and the potato pancakes as a side. Let me just say the potato pancakes are so amazing!!! I would never have stopped at a restaurant located in a hotel on a highway in a major tourist spot but my husband is from Wisconsin so I jumped at the chance to try a German pub. After reading the reviews I was convinced we had to try it and I'm so glad we did! The seats were roomy and comfortable and the menu had something for everyone. Our server was very honest about our portion sizes and suggested we didn't need anything else when I tried to add to our order. I had the chicken schnitzel and good gracious!!! It was amazing! And the mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious. Even the meals from the kids menu (chicken tenders and grilled cheese) were top notch. We were so full but had to order the apple strudel to go. They had sat at least one couple in the booth where we were initially going to sit but they told us that they weren't sitting people again. Then, I asked about how they had sat the couple in the interim and she states that it would be an hour and sit and they close at 9 (it was before 7:30 and their website says they close at 10). After a long day at Dollywood, our group decided we needed food outside the park. We resigned ourselves to leave before the fireworks show. Just a little ways away, at the beginning of the Gatlinburg strip is this gem of a restaurant attached to a hotel. Late at night it wasn't too busy and we were seated at a table immediately. The outside deck was cool and comfortable. Our server Jess, attended to us quickly. Drinks were constantly refilled. Food came fast. We were pleasantly surprised that they had some of the best schnitzel we've ever had. German potato salad was excellent. Then to our delight we found we could watch the fireworks at 9:30 PM every night of the week from our seats right there on the deck. A wonderful end to a really fun day. read more
