I've lately started to notice and enjoy birds - they are so sweet and cute! I tried to jerry-rig my own bird feeder but quickly realized I needed professional help. Did a search and found this place. This store is half bird feeding and half floral. The bird feeding side has so much packed into a tiny space, from floor to hanging from the ceiling! Tons of different humming bird feeders (including Hummzinger) and regular bird feeders, as well as tons of accessories like stands, catch trays, and things to keep the squirrels off. They have a wide variety of bird seed and suet blocks, including in bird seed in bulk and stalks of millet or whole cobs of corn. They also have squirrel feed! Strange to me, but true. The floral side was strange to me - expensive (but beautiful) houseplants, gorgeous artistic glass vases, little figurines, stuffed animals, mugs, greeting cards, handmade-looking glazed clay pots, candles, etc. But it was very lush feeling, kind of like stepping into a jungle. The atmosphere was very restful and relaxing. The people who work here were VERY nice and very knowledgable. They were able to answer my million questions, and made sure to tell me things I needed to know but didn't know to ask. Highly recommended.

When I arrived at the store J was greeted by Toni and she was so knowledgeable and was able to answer all my questions and has extensive knowledge which was exactly what I needed in regards to which foods would work best with the types of birds I was looking to attract to my yard. I also wanted to make sure that I had food that did not leave waste like shells from seeds whichcab attract mice and rats. I purchased food without shells in a 20 pound bag as well as bark butter which is like suet and will give the birds extra energy in the winter. It also has hot pepper in it which will deter pests. I did not know that birds cannot sense the "heat" from hot peppers. Great place and even though it was a bit of a drive, it was totally worth it. I have been…read moreboth with my dad and with my mom to get suet for the woodpeckers and other birds that visit the back yard. Most recently I came with my mom in March 2021 looking just for the suet. It is a cool store with lots of bird-centric products. I could easily see walking through the store just looking at everything, but the day we stopped we had frozen food in the car so had to make our trip quick. Workers are friendly and insightful in their interactions. We found the suet easily and the COVID-19 procedures were clearly communicated at the front of the store. Prices for the merchandise are fair. Products are artistically displayed in such a way that jump-starts the creative process for potential new items for the critters in the back yard. The store sign on the outside of the building makes the store visible from the street/parking lot. Parking is available in a large parking lot that is shared with a number of other businesses at the Lake Forest Park Town Centre. So depending on the day/time parking may or may not be easy to come by. All around fun and relatively hassle-free shopping experience. Oh, and Wild Birds Unlimited has a YouTube channel :).

This new store, which is in the Trader Joe's parking lot, of course offers all of the same things but in a very nicely arranged newer looking store. The guy I spoke with said yes, they do have birds for adoption, but didn't clarify much beyond that. I assumed it would be like a Petco-style place where you can meet and adopt birds. When I arrived, I was shocked by how dusty the store was and how poorly maintained the cages looked. The birds' habitats seemed depressing and unsuitable -- definitely not the kind of environment where birds should live. When I asked about adopting a bird, I was told flat out, "THEY ARE NOT FOR ADOPTION." I was confused because didn't I call to ask that? And they said yes? Then I asked, "Neither of them?" He said only two types of birds were actually available for adoption, and those were the same birds you can find at Petco. If I had known this, I wouldn't have driven an hour I was specifically interested in African Grey parrots, which they had but not for adoption and since they are not available at Petco, I thought they would have one there for adoption. We were looking at the birds and we were never told "if you are interested in adopting these are available" which I would've appreciated. I decided to go to Petco after which is 5 min away from my house! and got a jenday conure bird there. Anyway, I ended up buying some sunflower seeds for a bird I already have at home, but he wouldn't eat them, which was weird because those are his favorite. It turned out the bag was expired, which explains why. Overall, this place felt really poorly managed, especially regarding the birds' living conditions. They desperately need better habitats that allow the birds space to stretch their wings and have a more natural, healthy environment. I do not recommend this place.
