There was a special if you order over 30.00, you get to choose a free item. We chose the fried rice.This place closes at 8, and we came at 8:15! He still served us and took our order. Since we ordered sushi, this man had already cleaned up his setup for sushi, but he proceeded to put the cutting board back on the counter, and made our sushi fresh. Another awesome thing he did was, he noticed his chicken was dry, so he told us that he wanted to cook our chicken fresh, and asked us if we can wait for 5 more minutes. This guy went to the back and cooked us fresh chicken! He was already closed, and he wanted to make sure his food was served fresh. What a great business, and a great owner! He cared about his service, his customers, and he takes pride in serving his food. Btw, he even added some free chow mein. The portions were big, the food was fresh, and we knocked it out! My wife ate all of her 49ers Roll, my son knocked out his 2 item combo, and I ate every single piece of my freshly made terriyaki chicken. Thank you for your hospitality, courtesy, and honesty. But that being said, the service was really good. The lady serving us was super friendly and attentive, and overall the staff was kind and welcoming. However, there was only one other table besides ours at the time, so I'm not sure how service would be during peak hours. Now the cafe side, I loved it. The vibe made me feel like I wasn't even in Hayward. The sandos were really good, and the matcha looked amazing. I'd definitely come back for the cafe experience alone. My biggest concern though is the elevator situation. It wasn't working during our visit, and I heard it hasn't been working for quite a while. The gyoza was standard as well but the sauce was a little odd (thick and creamy as opposed to more of a soy sauce vinegar). The staff was kind and they had complimentary candy for folks.
