We had the Kobe beef with caviar roll, super expensive but with every penny, the Victoria Secret roll which was amazing, the pad Thai says it's spicy but I didn't think it was hot at all and my daughter in law hates spicy food and she ate it (be warned they are VERY liberal with the fish sauce), the Fleury Fire roll was delicious and VERY spicy, and the Szechuan spicy shredded beef, which was a little warm but not spicy by any mean and it was amazing. We went to Wild Ginger on Saturday night with a large group. The place was busy, but we had reservations and they were ready for us! The tables were all pushed together, menus were out and all we had to do was enjoy. Great start. Starting with drinks, I ordered up a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, which was delicious. I was a little bit surprised by the limited selection of wines available by the glass versus bottle, but I got something I liked so not harm no foul. Next, we ordered dinner. The sushi menu is extensive and also creative. I decided on one traditional roll and one fusion roll for dinner. I grabbed a spicy yellowtail and a jalapeño yummy roll. The food came out promptly and the presentation was excellent. The jalapeño yummy roll was absolutely spectacular with the wasabi sauce. The yellowtail roll was tasty, but I'm not sure it was assembled quite right because every piece fell apart when I tried to pick it up. At the end of the day, that didn't affect the taste, of course. She socialized with her friends and only attended to us because it was her job. The bartender and head chef argued with each other about two feet away from us. Seriously, this is what passes for Asian cuisine in Billings?! The waitress asked me if everything was all right, 20 minutes after she dumped this pile of "food" in front of me. Stopped in for a Monday dinner with a group of seven and were seated right away. The vibe in here is great- we were seated next to the large fish tank, which seemed well maintained. Our waitress was not very attentive, our food took over an hour to come out and we were not given any communication on its status. Water and wine glasses were often empty. The food was a mixed bag- my sushi (Ladys roll) was drowning in sauce, but my friend said the orange chicken was the best he's ever had. The grilled tuna salad was decent but could've used greens other than iceberg and possibly some avocado. First the food: amazing drunken noodles with perfectly cooked and seasoned shrimp, delicious and flavorful broth for the ramen, the noodles in the ramen were also perfectly cooked and fresh sushi rolls prepared in an open kitchen. So do come here for the food, or maybe take out is better... Now the actual restaurant: decor is beautiful and the space is very inviting. But... you are supposed to wait to be seated, however the hostess was frequently elsewhere doing other tasks that were not meant for the hostess. There was a giant fish tank in the dining room, which was being maintained as we ate, and if something went wrong liters of water and several pieces of tempered glass would have fallen on us. Services/maintenance should be made when a restaurant is closed! And the person fixing the fish tank used one of the beautiful bar stools to be able to reach whatever he had to... the same bar stools that their customers will be sitting on later... Food was delicious, the overall experience was bizarre. In town from Virginia, and I'll admit I was a little leery of sushi and hibachi in Billings, MT. Went in with an open mind and was not disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful, though I do wish they had more booths and fewer tables. When you start ordering appetizers, drinks,sushi,hibachi plates,etc. a small 4-top can fill up fast. Our server was extremely attentive and cleared things away quickly, so it was not a huge issue, but if you're the kind of person who likes space, you won't find it here. We started with crab rangoon, which was absolutely delicious. It was one of the lighter versions of the dish I've had; however, the dipping sauces left a little to be desired - the red sauce was too sour and the mustard (?) was very heavy on horseradish. After that, we tried a shrimp tempura roll and a jalapeño yummy roll. They were both decent, but, like the sauces, nothing to write home about. The jalapeño yummy roll was not spicy at all, though it was well made and tasted as fresh as could be expected. The shrimp tempura roll was good but it was lacking the crunch I've come to expect from this roll, as if the shrimp tempura was fried in prep and left waiting to be rolled up instead of fried right then. We followed up our sushi with entrees - hibachi chicken and the pork belly ramen. The hibachi chicken was a very good portion, and it was paired with soup or salad rather than both, like at most hibachi restaurants. We chose the miso soup, and it was delicious. The chicken... again, there were small issues. The rice was not very good but the vegetables were the best hibachi vegetables I've ever had. The yum yum sauce was outstanding, but the chicken needed it to really stand out. There were also a couple of chunks of chicken on the larger side that had textural issues. I can't say they weren't cooked all the way for certain, but they either weren't cooked all the way or had significant fatty pieces left on in trimming. The ramen was good, but the bowl was deceptive. What looked like a huge bowl was actually very shallow. The broth had a distinct powder flavor. We're not sure it's homemade, and the question was even asked to the table - does this taste like instant ramen to you? The noodles were tasty and had a good bite, the pork belly delicious, but the egg was hidden inside the bowl instead of cut and displayed on top and wasn't found until the end of the meal. I think something else was missing, but I can't recall - the plating was not done well. Our service was top-notch. Waters never empty. Plates cleared away quickly. Food was brought out timely and in order. There is just *something* missing at Wild Ginger. Every dish had one or two things that were "off," so I feel like, for the prices you pay, there should be some tightening up in the kitchen. When you're going somewhere to spend hundreds of dollars, you expect great service,great ambiance, and great food. We were all a bit skeptical since we come from the PNW where we routinely eat fresh sushi. We had reservations for a large group and our server was incredible. Pretty bummed to be writing such a poor review but my hope is that the owners see it and take it to heart. My fiancé and I moved to Billings from Portland, OR just over 2 years ago. Wild Ginger was one of the first places we tried and we instantly loved it. We were honestly really surprised at how good the food was, especially the sushi. Over the last 2 years, we dined at or ordered take-out from Wild Ginger at least 10 times. In that time we've noticed the quality of the food and service go down dramatically. Last night we ordered our usual green curry and soba noodles. When we took the food out of the bag, nothing looked right. The food did not look fresh or inviting. For example, the green curry had vegetables like cauliflower which we've never seen on that dish before. We cautiously proceeded to try the food which did not taste right. After a few bites, we both decided to throw the food away and eat cereal for dinner. Upon waking up this morning my fiancé, who had a few bites of the green curry, has been experiencing food poisoning symptoms (terrible headache, nausea, diarrhea, body chills, etc). We are so disappointed. Wild Ginger used to be our favorite spot in town. It was our first choice for date nights, family visits, and random nights when we just didn't feel like cooking. We noticed the quality started slipping over 6 months ago. Last night was a chance for us to check in to see if things had improved but they very clearly have gotten worse. I hope the owners take note. Wild Ginger has the tools it needs to be successful. Great location, beautiful restaurant, and a unique menu for the area. I keep getting my to-go orders wrong here :( I got the Basil Eggplant and the gal said it didn't come with meat... I thought it did but was driving. The portion was half what it normally is for their stir fry dishes. I checked the menu and it's $15 with the choice of meat. Last time I asked for no green bell pepper and the entire dish was half green bell peppers. They don't offer refunds and last time the manager made me feel guilty for complaining except I don't eat green peppers and it was seriously half the dish. I called and they always offer to have me come in for their mistakes. After driving home and spiriting down to eat after 13 hours working as a nurse on my feet, no I didn't want to drive back a t 9:45. The waitress says "what do you want us to do about it?" Same thing they said when she messed up my order the last time so they must be trained to offer that kind of customer service. I asked her what would you like done if it happened to you? She said she didn't know. Then she took down my number for a manager to call me back to offer me a refund on a card and they never it's been two days. I called again and was made fun of by one person, passed to another who said if I want something done I can come in and talk to a manager during business hours. $17 for a cup of veggies. Not my idea of a good business with respectable customer service. If you make an error, please own it and stand up for the good quality you say you have. She's in the hospital with pneumonia & complications from cancer & chemo! As soon as I got out of the car as I was grabbing the bottom of the bag, the bottom blew out & her dinner ended up on the ground! They also forgot our salad. Anyway when I called & explained the situation they said they would reorder it at full cost to me! Their containers leaked the liquid that soaked the bottom of the paper bag! Big let down we've been here in the past and had a pretty good experience, but this last visit made us never want to come back. Nothing like getting seated and then being walked by and ignored for over 20 minutes before even being acknowledged. Wasn't even busy! No music playing made for a dull experience as well. They don't have changing tables in the restrooms, so if you have a baby like us, it makes changing them a pain in the ass.
