Recently went to Wild Sage for the first time, everything was fantastic. Instead of bread, they served these little muffin-puff things kind of like hollow cream puffs. I don't know what they are called but they were amazing. Everyone's order was filled correctly, and was very good. Everyone I was there with agreed that their meal was fantastic. The service was great, our waitress was knowledgeable and courteous. Even with a table of 8 people, our food arrived quickly. The atmosphere was also very good. Soft music playing in the background with white tablecloths and lights in the windows. Quiet with some interesting artwork on the walls. A couple people got the hamburger, trout, and chicken, respectively. There were also some other orders that I cannot remember. As I mentioned earlier, everyone agreed that their meal was excellent. As a farewell gift/welcome to Spokane, I got a gift card to this place. At first I was intimidated by its fanciness and its "smart casual" dress code. Took my mom out and we had such a great time! Attentive service and wonderful food! I got the huckleberry limeade, cup of lentil soup, wild sage salad, polenta fries, and clementine pound cake. As for the first course, I went with the Northwester Chowder, which was served in a small cup and was delicious. Second course, I went with Pork Tenderloin Au Poivre which is to die for. One of my top favorite restaurants in Spokane. We dined here so many times for so many occasions. It is a very small restaurant and reservations are highly recommended. The waitresses and waiters are the best; they are so busy and handle each table so professionally. They care and give proper attention to everyone. The food is based on seasonal and local ingredients so each time is an experience itself. The only drawback is the possibility of cross contamination of food. You need to call ahead if you are seriously allergic or have dietary restrictions to give them heads up so they can handle your requests. Even though they are one of few restaurants in area that offer gluten free items, still there is room for improvement such as investing in separate cooking areas, utensils etc. The popover is their signature and it comes freshly baked out of the oven. I was really excited to go here for New Year's Eve. My friend who was with us said it was a great restaurant. It was ver unimpressive. The server was good getting us everything we needed, however it took forever to get our drinks with no apology, and they made 2 of them of the martinis wrong. Now let's review the food, the bisque soup was very good we also shared a salad that was doused in dressing so not good. My boyfriend ordered the flank steak and it was so heavily marinaded you couldn't taste the meat, I ordered shrimp fettuccine and again there was so much sauce it was barely edible. The chefs of this establishment have a unique talent of combining fresh ingredients that in an average kitchen wouldn't normally go together. The bread served to start was so fluffy and light especially accompanied by the whipped butter. The butternut squash bisque was the perfect comfort food and I couldn't get enough of the pork crostini. Good thing since the lamb shank was almost enough to feed 2 and the tenderness of the meat as it fell of the bone, along with the sides, made it worth every bite. Topped off with their seasonal spring lemon berry tart, delicious! This place is a must try especially for special occasions as they gifted the birthday girl with chocolate truffles along with a complimentary crème brûlée for next time. The manager was extremely rude. We had a party of 7 seated to eat. I have Asthma and pulmonary fibrosis so I need to wear an oxygen tank not a mask. I agreed to not eat there and left but I forgot I had the keys to the car. When I brought the keys back to give to the nice Hostess so she could take them to the table, the manager came at me like I was a criminal. It was unnecessary and rude. It's bad enough I didn't get to eat but to have a 6'2" gorilla charging at me while I'm simply handing the keys through the door is just rude and ridiculous. So far all the restaurants I've been to in Spokane, this place was the best out of all! Located in downtown, so parking is not free. But street parking is available around the area for $1.2 for an hour! I strongly recommend you to make a reservation for this place as I watched people waiting for more than 30 min+ to get seated. I made a reservation at 7 PM and didn't get a table till like 7:15 PM. But they gave us a starter as a complimentary so everything was good in the end! For a starter I ordered Calamari which was something different. I've never tasted calamari that is not crunchy and that comes with Kimchi side. At first, I didn't expect a lot, but it was actually really good! I really liked their sauce as well. For drink I ordered Scarlet Queen. (if you like sweet drink, try it!) Also got Cioppino soup as an appetizer. To be honest, It was alright. For the main dishes, I got Wild Prawn Pasta and my bf got Filet Mignon. The cream sauce in my pasta was really thick and a bit oily in my opinion. But I liked Filet mignon. We ordered medium rare and it was perfectly cooked just like how we asked. The meat was very juicy and side potato was also good. Overall, the food was good, service was outstanding, and the ambience was also nice. Ok. So we had the tomato basil soup. Burrata peaches salad. Apricot pork. And duck breast. The ambience and service: the atmosphere was more cozy upscale but the choice of music did not impress and the music alone could've bumped up the overall ambience of the restaurant. Staff was good the hostess or the ladies checking your in were dressed however so I didn't think they were part of the team. Our server lady was great! Basil soup was one of the best we've had. Burrata peaches was the star dish of the night!! Apricot pork was sadly not impressive at all. There was too much going on on the plate and the sauce was just overly sweet. It shouldn't have been called apricot pork because apricots were just braised lost their color sitting on the side of the plate. And again there was too many elements on the plate. The duck breast was the dish I was most excited about. Not many places serve it and def not many of those serve it right. So the Brest was cooked well the skin got a little soggy tho. And the seasoned cubed potatoes was the star element of this dish sadly!! Whatever sauce the duck breast was sitting on was again soooo overwhelmingly sweet you could not taste the duck. Tooooo much going on on the plate this is where the statement "less is more" needs to be incorporated. The sad part is that the duck breast was cooked well but from sitting in that sauce the skin got soggy and I could not taste the duck. My co-worker and I walked in on an early Monday night without reservations, the next availability wasn't for 2 hours! Before we walked away with our head hanging low, the hostess was kind enough to ask 2 gentlemen in the bar to move over to make space for us! That was a nice touch, most places will leave it up to you to do that. Of course, we reciprocated the favor later in the evening to make space for more diners. The menu had so many promising items, but we settled on the Yukon taquitos. I didn't know what to expect, the dish came with 4 generously portioned taquitos filled with potatoes! Who knew?! Since potatoes are a bit bland, the avocado, salted cabbage with just a spritz of lime and some hot sauce made for great bites! We also ordered the Polenta fries, which were huge, they might as well have been bricks of Polenta! For my entree, I ordered the breast of duckling, cooked medium rare. This dish was the icing on the cake! I was jonesing to come here because of this! And it did not disappoint! The duck was cooked to a perfect medium rare, with a slight crisp to the skin, I can't really comment on the other dish items, since I was just munching away at the duck. Started with the Spokane 74 - because how hilarious is it that this beautiful cocktail was a knock off name of the French 75. Local cheers yo! I had a couple of those throughout the evening and absolutely enjoyed them. My husband had the Bloody Mary and that was tasty too. We started with the tenderloin fondue, YUM! Now as much as I loved this dish the portion size was a tad less than desired for almost $15 per plate. We didn't get very much meat but we did get some type of grilled peach and apple slices that covered the plate a lot too. I just like me some meat, soooo..... We both got a salad and the beet salad I got was incredible. Perfectly roasted and delicious beets that were plated beautifully. Definitely would order this dish again. My husband got the steak and I got the duck breast that I had been craving for a couple weeks so I was so so happy and Spokane 74'ed up ya know. The duck was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. Ended with creme brulee and the coconut cake. DELISH. The best creme brulee I have had in this city and my absolute favorite. This is certainly a fine dining restaurant, but they also have some less expensive options on the menu as well that I'd imagine are delicious- definitely coming back for the burger. I ordered the dijon chicken and it was phenomenal. Juicy and cooked to perfection with some potato grits that were super tasty. Overall just a great experience. Can't wait to come back. 2nd visit: My team from work came here last week for a Christmas party and it was fantastic. I ordered the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. The lavender honey butter with it is so divine and I don't even like lavender in my food. You can't go wrong with any choice and they're willing to accommodate to for your dietary needs. A lot of people really like their creme brulee, but for me, their coconut creme cake is one of me favorites (if not favorite) desserts in Spokane! It's a vanilla coconut genoise cake with a tart lilikoi glaze that cuts the sweetness perfectly. Service is always top notch in Spokane. They're friendly and attentive. I'm deducting a star because it's been kind of a downer going here for celebrations.
