The gyro meat was so good and full of flavor that even my picky little boy was eating it nonstop, which says a lot. We ordered the gyro plate, hummus, and falafel and everything was delicious. To be honest, I had never heard of this place but I discovered it while browsing the synergy gift card website looking for a place to eat. I love Mediterranean food and was instantly intrigued. Decided to give it a chance and am so glad I did! Started with their lentil soup which was a bit spicier than most other lentil soups I've tried but tasted homemade and was served with the obligatory slice of lemon. Always nice to start a meal on a nice warm note. Ordered the chicken kabob plate which came with two boneless chicken breast kabob skewers that were very tender and not nearly as charred or crispy on the outside as other places I've tried and to be honest, I like them better this way. I found the chicken breast to be very tender and moist and delicious with the garlic sauce it was served with. Also came with a nice portion of hummus and rice and a traditional salad with olive oil and lemon and dill dressing with cucumbers and fresh tomatoes. Everything tasted authentic and homemade to me, I especially like the hummus which was very mild compared to stronger tasting hummus like you buy in a grocery store etc. Also recognized the owner of this place from another former favorite Mediterranean hookah restaurant like this one that was in bankers Hill for many years called med Cafe. Perhaps that's why the food tastes so good and authenticure is because the owner has years of experience. Oh and a few other positives about this place, they have their own on site parking lot, they are open till 1:00 a.m. everyday! Including the kitchen, and they have hookahs on a covered outdoor patio area. It was quiet the night I went, but the owner said it's very popular with college students from SDSU just down the street. The service here was excellent. No problems there. The food was delicious. I got the baba ghanouch and wow it was delicious and the presentation. A good smokey flavor which u loved and the pita bread was thinner than most and a little flaky which was good. The falafel was good also. Falafel can tend to be a little dry but this was good. Loved the crunchy outside and the softer inside. The sauce was great. The baklava was really good buttery and flaky and loaded with flavor. I liked the salad and the dressing that came with it, very refreshing and fresh tasting. The tzatziki sauce and hummus that came with the beef kabob was delicious and I'd definitely order those sauces separately if I could to take home. Their falafel sandwich featured very well seasoned green falafel (Fava beans!) , pillowy pita, hummus and mixed salad. Would have liked more pickled veg. to amp up the brine factor. SO enjoyed the gyro sandwich. The fries though. I come from an Irish lineage so it's very rare that I encounter a displeasing potato preparation. Unfortunately, these fries were wet, from moisture gathering in the plastic container. Beyond that, the texture of each fry itself was weirdly smooth and plastic-like. Been living down the street from this place for years. Called in to order pickup, staff was so nice, gave great recommendations, and the restaurant was super clean and open late. I was just attacked by their husky that runs around in their restaurant. This is the second time it has attacked someone. I am waiting on the police for a police report and will be reporting this to animal control immediately tomorrow as today is thanksgiving. The owners are reckless and have no regard for public safety as again this is the SECOND INCIDENT IT HAS ATTACKED SOMEONE. It was running around unleashed and it attacked me. The customer service is the best, everyone is very welcoming. They don't hound you or push you out. This time I tried there smoked salmon which was the special of the day and it melted in my mouth. I felt like I couldn't get enough and would eat the whole fish. I am a huge hummus fan and now I can never go back to buying it from a store or anywhere else. I used to frequent a Middle Eastern restaurant for 20 years in downtown San Diego, it finally closed, it all happened before 2020, I was bummed. I needed to fill that void. I started to ask around what happened to one of the key workers and chefs that worked at my old spot, and I found out he opened his own place. The very moment I found out where he was, I got in my truck and drove there. I was so happy to see the dude and that he had started his own business. His food is very-solid. Got a chance to check out the new Wild Thyme Bar and Grill by SDSU. This is a Mediterranean style restaurant that serves up everything from Kebab plates, Gyros sandwiches, felafel, and if you're the type to smoke hookah after a meal, then this place might be for you! This is a new restaurant and new ownership. The new owner has renovated the place with a more modern look and is still planning more improvements to the business with patio in the back with an extensive beer and wine selection. We had noticed business was open and decided to give it a try. The place is bright, spacious, and was very clean. The highlight was the food! We decided to have two Kebab beef plates and the portions were generous and was served with two ground sirloin kebabs, hummus, salad, rice, and pita bread. We had also ordered a side of fries and some felafel with our meal. Everything was made fresh and in house! We noticed the prices were pretty affordable. We saw Gyro, beef, chicken, and other sandwich options averaging about $6 bucks with full plate meal options averaging $13 bucks. There was a lot of food for the money!
