After the root canal was done, I was "fitted" with a crown. It's stated like that because the crown never comfortably fit, despite adjustments that were requested. I eventually learned to live with the discomfort. A few months after the root canal, I was still experiencing pain in the tooth so they referred me to a specialist for root canal therapy at Apex. After that, I didn't have issues with that tooth for a while, and I continued with routine cleanings. At the end of 2022 my insurance benefits ended, and around that time I was told I needed to have deep scaling treatment again. Family Care Dental refused to provide me any further routine cleanings until I had the scaling done. Without insurance I couldn't afford it, due to this I stopped having regular appointments. By summer of 2024 I was having intense pain again in #18 where the root canal was done. Despite not having insurance, I went back to have them take a look at the tooth to see why I was experiencing pain again. They took x rays and performed an exam and insisted there were no issues with the tooth or root canal. They then pivoted, and speculated the pain was a result of teeth grinding. I want to state that I have never complained of grinding my teeth, or any pain related to doing that, but they were insistent and I was trusting. At that appointment I was convinced to spend $2,257.00 (and opened a Care Credit Card to pay for it). This amount supposedly covered the scaling on my entire mouth and a night guard that I was told would cure the pain I was experiencing. I had informed the front desk I did not want to be charged for everything up front, and that I preferred to pay for services as they were provided so that I wouldn't be paying interest on services I hadn't yet received. This was disregarded, and despite only receiving a cleaning on one side of my mouth the next time I returned, I was charged for my full mouth and the night guard- explicitly against my consent. Then, once the night guard I had already paid for (and was paying interest on) was made and ready for pick up, it sat in their office for at least 2 months with no one contacting me to come in for it. Again, all the while I had paid for it and was paying interest on it. When I returned for my follow up cleaning a couple months later I asked about the night guard. Had I not asked about it, it would never had been mentioned to me because my appointment had actually ended and I had walked back into the office from the parking lot to ask them about it. It appeared as though they were never going to follow up on it at all. At that point I was brought back into the office to have the night guard fitted. It did not fit, and I knew I would not be able to sleep with it in my mouth. Beginning to feel as if I'd been swindled into a very expensive and unnecessary purchase, I told them I did not want it and I wanted to be refunded for it (nearly $700). I was told to call the office the next day after they had a chance to discuss it with the dentist, and they would tell me how to go about the refund then. The next day I called and was provided no resolve, just told they'd call me back later. They never did. At this point I was so done. The next morning I contacted Care Credit and disputed the amount for the night guard. After nearly another 2 months, I finally got a refund from Care Credit for the night guard and the interest associated with it. Had I not done this, I do not believe Family Care Dental would have refunded me any part of this at all. However, after all of this, my experience was about to get even worse, because the pain in #18 continued to persist. I decided to see another dentist who took new x rays and examined me. He was able to tell *immediately* there was an obvious cracked root in the back of #18 causing my continued pain. Needless to say this was never mentioned to me at Family Care Dental. After everything Family Care Dental put me through- doing a root canal & additional work on a tooth that should have been extracted to begin with, false representations about needing a night guard they seemingly never intended to deliver- I ended up having to have the tooth extracted, and spending a ton of money with my new dentist to finally get the proper treatment I actually required. I'm currently looking into what formal complaints can be made about this experience, and I hope anyone considering going to this office can take my experience into consideration first. After my experience and also reading the other negative reviews, there seems to be a pattern here of shady business practices. They have completely lost my trust, and definitely will not have an opportunity to hustle another penny from my family.

This office was the first office I had been in many years that were actually honest feeling, genuine & didn't nickel & dime you. I go to get my teeth cleaned like clockwork every 6 months. I always water pik &/or floss. Suddenly a new hygienist is mine for the appointment, my regular girl wasn't available, & now I need an expensive "deep cleaning". I asked, can you just clean my teeth like normal & I will watch & focus more on the area of concern, NO she says. Really???? It's very unfortunate that Allison is the new face of Canyon Lakes Dental Group. Dr. Nassar is my favorite dentist, the front office staff is amazing, especially Debbie. But when it comes to pressure sales, that's not my style. I have friends that have been in the dental field & have told me that they have numbers to meet in sales monthly & if you don't upsell services you get let go. It's very sad. If you are going to this office, request someone other than Allison unless you have several hundred extra dollars to blow.

Now that new management is in place there isn't any consideration for the customer. Waited 55 minutes for the hygienist, lying down in this uncomfortable chair. Walked up to the counter and questioned the staff and was told my cleaning appointment was one hour after the initial dental inspection. Been going there for 9 years and the cleaning was always first and a dentist would follow-up with a two-minute inspection. Somehow reversing the procedure and making the customer wait an excessive amount of time makes sense to them. Walked out and won't return. Never received a cleaning. They still billed my insurance company, even after I verbalized my displeasure. Just not the same anymore.

They didn't try to do things I didn't require just because I asked about certain teeth like at other dental offices. Amy the hygienist was also amazing my teeth are super sensitive to cold. Once I let her know she did a manual cleaning took her time asking me if I was okay often. Giving me alternative to avoid the pain from the cold routes. I will definitely be back.

They were incredibly helpful with figuring out insurance, explaining costs and options, and overall just really supportive for us young things trying to navigate healthcare. Dr. Shaffer, and the hygienist, Gulnaz, were equally kind and helpful! I didn't feel shamed for not having seen a dentist in a couple years- they were understanding and explained my diagnosis clearly and helped me with next steps. He has done updates on my implants (I'm a terrible patient, crunching on nuts and grinding my teeth) as needed, and I'm so glad for all the support. If you need to talk about implants and/or other non-routine dental needs I can't recommend Dr Boyse highly enough. Over the years I've occasionally been seen by another surgeon here, all of them are excellent and caring. I would give more stars but there aren't enough.
