so this place is an institution in the Glen Lake area. i remember when it was a much smaller place…read morethat served up sodas and beers in frosted mugs. honestly the vibe back then was even better imo. food here is pretty good. they have a solid variety of burgers and other options. it's a good place to go with friends/family, also solo as i've done at the bar a few times. the reason i don't give a higher rating is i feel the place kind of phones it in on weeknights, which is a shame. i try to cut the staff a break because a) props to anyone in the service industry and b) i can understand how they would want to close on time, if not early if/when they're able to on slower nights my bone to pick with the above is that because their close time is open ended on weeknights, it's not always clear how long they'll be open. they run two happy hours, including from 8pm to close. this includes food. as someone who sometimes works later myself (retail, baby!), a later night HH with food is ideal. unfortunately, a couple of times i've arrived after 9pm and been told the kitchen is closed and they're on last call. they're "supposed" to go til 10pm. i realize i may be splitting hairs, but i also think if they wanted to create a more customer friendly vibe, they would go out of their way to stay open. The menu had so many great options- it was hard to decide what to order. I got the jalepeno poppers and the toasted ham and cheese sandwich with tots as a side. Hubby got the beef commercial and a half order of onion rings. The food was amazing, the portions were really big, and the prices were great. We will definitely be back!

We had the signature burger with fries and a side of ranch, and the chicken and ribs with a salad. On our first visit, we were seated promptly. The burger was fresh and the fries were super hot and tasty; the ranch tasted homemade. The chicken was amazing, the ribs had a delicious sauce that was smoky and not too sweet, and the side salad was big enough that we were able to actually split it between us. The waitress was attentive without being annoying and she brought us 3 wet wipes and an extra plate to put the discarded rib bones on. However, just 3 days later, we had an entirely different experience. We stood at the door for easily 10 minutes before being seated. The waitress forgot to bring the ranch dressing we asked for when we ordered. The fries were cold-ish and stale; the burger didn't taste seasoned. The side salad had a rotten slice of cucumber and we only got 1 side of dressing when we got 2 sides of dressing previously. The salad wasn't large enough to share this time. The pieces of chicken were smaller and although the ribs were still good, this time we had to ask for wet wipes (we were given 2 instead of 3 like last time) and a plate for the rib bones. It was pretty disappointing... if our first experience at Beartown had been like our second visit, we wouldn't have gone back.

Nothing wrong with it really I just would have preferred it in the salad so I didn't have to pull it off the skewer. I also ordered the fried pickles which I have had before but enjoy very much. They are very cheesy but I think the pickle balances the cheese out or something. Usually if something is really cheesy like that it kind of grosses me out, but this doesn't. Usually I don't stray off the menu for anything unique in these places. So we ordered burgers and wings. The burgers are cooked on a flat top just north of medium. the burgers had a good crust on them but still a little pink in the middle so they hit the mark. we definitely liked our burgers. the same thing with wings. we ordered the wings with a dry rub and buffalo sauce on the side. They were certainly plenty good. The only disappointing thing was there was an issue with their thermostat for the tap beer. I didn't care for any of their canned/bottled beers, so I had a 60 degree IPA. It wasn't the worst, but oh well. If I am hungry and nearby, I'd eat here, but it is not a destination place unless you are on the river.
