Atmosphere was nice. We were promptly greeted and seated. We were given time to order and while we perused the menu we ordered coffee. It seemed strong but not old. The eggs Benedict was good. I asked for poached medium and they were barely so. I'm not a big fan of their hash browns. I think these come to the restaurant in bags. They're fresh but when cooked they come out looking like mashed potatoes rather than hash browns. My wife said her 1X1 was ok. The quality of the meat is ok. We've tasted better, but it's fine. Here's our only issue with the morning waitresses- they all seem snobby or upset you're there. Maybe a language barrier where they don't say a lot of thank you's or seem happy that you're there ‍ We've not been here in a while and this was the reason why. We had an appointment nearby and were too early so we thought let's give it another try. It hasn't changed. read more

Soup came with my lunch. I asked if I could have chili instead of soup (on the menu, chilli is $1 more). Waitress said, "There is an up charge. " I said that's fine, $1 more? She said no, full price for the chili! But my lunch comes with soup, instead of soup I would like chili and pay the difference. If you want chili it's full price.! Was disappointed in this restaurant. I had heard great things. We arrived and we're seated promptly. That's a plus. Ambiance. It was very old fashioned. It really didn't have a vibe. It's a family restaurant, so I guess that is ok. Food was a mixed bag. We ordered soup and sandwiches. My husband had the tuna salad and he said it was fine. This is a compliment from him. I had the corned beef. It was skinny and rubbery. I would not recommend. We both had the cream of broccoli soup and it was delicious. The prices were good. My main problem was with the service. When my husband ordered his sandwich he was not offered the soup and pickles that the menu stated it came with. We had to ask for both. I had told the waitress my sandwich was rubbery. She said it was supposed to be fresh and walked away. So I pulled out a piece to show her next time around. I was playing with it like a rubber band. I showed her and she took the piece and said sorry and walked away. There was no offer to get manager, owner, or offer to get me something different. When I went to pay the bill, I had to wait for the person who was either the owner or manager to finish her conversation. That took about 2 minutes. I wasn't asked how everything was, so I approached it. I said since you didn't ask, I will tell you that everything was not OK. Your Reuben is the worst one I have ever had. No response. We will not go back. I can accept a sandwich not being the best, but you should care about the guests experience. read more

I've been coming here for years with my family after church. We've always had great service and the prices can't be beat. It's a super old school family restaurant, most of the clientele is easily over 70. We usually get breakfast but I've had lunch a few times and everything was as expected. Wow! We used to go here kind of a lot for breakfast and their dinner. Went last week on a Thursday and I was so disappointed. The food was just okay ( not really but I don't want to slam bad) portions were so light and the service was even worse. I can see why one poster said " if you're not a regular", you won't get the best service possible from a diner. Many dings I could give but won't . Truth. Amazing place to have food. George is such an amazing person and it's always nice to see him. Soups are some of the best around. Always go for the soups. Their portions are big sized and filling. Food is always great here. Typically there's nobody under the age of 70 there..., but I look at it this way. If you're that old and still come there, they must be doing something right LOL. Service is decent. The ambiance is an older crowd. Food is always pretty good. Kind of like a Coney Island, but if your grandma owned it, they have tons of specials everyday. We haven't eaten here in years. The very last time we did I specifically asked that my toast be DRY. As we were chatting, I reached over to pick up a piece of my toast & take a bite without looking to check if it WAS dry. It not only wasn't, but whatever they had smeared on it had the smell & consistency of axle grease! I've never before had something go down & come up so fast! Met an older friend here who'd been coming here frequently, many moons ago. Very friendly waitress, clean place. They were super busy and on top of it! Was there at 9:30 Sunday, parking lot had plenty of cars, but found a spot pretty easily. Lucky to get a table in about 1 minute flat as the place looked full. Waitress showed up about 4 minutes later asking for drinks and took my order for 2x2 breakfast (their special). Had 3 eggs over easy, rye, extra onions on my hash browns. Got a serving big enough to easily satisfy my appetite. I did order an extra side of sausage gravy but waitress wrote down wrong and I got 4 sausage links instead. She offered to make it right, but the sausage looked good and I thanked her for asking. Food came out in about 7 minutes, looked and tasted good. Waitress ignored my cash on the check and we had to go to register on way out to cash out. As a budget friendly greasy spoon I liked it a lot. Will go again. read more

Have been dining here since it opened way back in the day. They are really good about tastefully updating the decor and maintaining their business. Our fav used to be the Turkey Dinner. They have cranberry sauce too when other restaurants are beginning to stop stocking it . Here they keep up the Turkey TraditionS.LOL The last two times we have dined here things have changed. Used to really enjoy the veal cutlets but they are not as tasty. The turkey is very dry and was browned as if the pre cooked meat was grilled. The stuffing was tasteless and very dry too. Almost like it was not allowed time to rehydrate from the dehydrated bread cubes before heated and served. The gravy had absolutely no flavor at all!!! One in our party ordered breakfast for dinner. It was just okay. A friend asked why such a small iced tea glass as she was served in a short water glass. She was told that prices had gone up and they had to make changes. Hmm, on an iced tea. Yes. Dined here for the first time this afternoon. They have a ton of daily specials. The price is great and the amount of food enormous! Better than size is the flavor! I had the lamb shank with rice pilaf while my husband had stuffed flounder with garlic mashed potatoes. They were delicious. I also ordered a side of potato pancakes and I'm so glad I did. I also appreciate the fresh baked sliced bread and homemade soup. It's the one thing I look forward to when I dine in these types of restaurants. Food was fine, but we were visiting friends while in town and wanted to chat and catch up for a while. Less then a minute after our food was brought to our table they gave us the check, and when we were close to being finished eating they kept coming every 5 minutes asking us if we wanted boxes and if we needed anything else-even after we already had boxes and told them we were set and just wanted to chat. After we finished eating we wanted to stay and chat a while since we only see these friends a couple times a year or so. They kept coming over and asking us if we needed boxes or anything else in a very impatient and rude tones. Service was prompt and pleasant. This is an older place, but business wise and clientele was. The servers and customers are all older, and by older I mean at least my age (late 50's-really late50's). The food was least than stellar. I had the 2x2 breakfast. 2 eggs (3 actually), two sausage links ( had I known links I would have passed), two very crisp and dry slices of bacon, with hash browns and toast. This is $6.45 about twice the price of coffee. I also ordered a side of sausage gravy which was clearly microwaved-I almost burnt my hand on the cup. Overall a touch bland. Less than $10 for a giant breakfast! 3 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, and choice of pancakes AND toast or hashbrowns. AND COFFEE! I mean.. the waitress was also super nice. Her name is Michelle. I loved my experience for value, time, and food, I'll be back! Also, doesn't hurt that they have a dessert carousel with cakes and pies up front. I really wish I could give this place a better rating. This restaurant popped up on my FB recommendations close to a year ago. They post amazing photos of their food and daily specials. Since I'm remote right now, I don't get to their side of town too often anymore. I LOVE egg salad and was having a super craving for it and it popped up on my feed on my day off. I didn't feel like going to the market so instead I made a mad dash to restaurant because I had business to do in the area about an hour and half later. I arrived at the restaurant and it was a very cute restaurant and they were steadily busy since it was just past lunch hour. I was seated at a two person booth that still needed to be wiped down. It took close to five minutes for my waitress to finally come to my table and somewhat wipe it down. She didn't say hello or or introduce herself. All she said was what are you drinking? There was still lettuce and salad dressing left on it after cleaning it. I ordered a water and let her know I was ready to order as well. She literally let out a sigh and took my order. I ordered their egg salad combo which included an egg salad sandwich on your choice of bread, a cup of soup, a sample of their coleslaw, potato chips and a pickle spear. It costs $4.55! That's a great deal, absolutely! Her tone seemed to change even worse after ordering that. Maybe because it wasn't going to be a huge tab? I don't know. At the end of the day all the tables in her section had a straw for their beverages and had a bread basket and crackers to go with their soup. I had to ask her twice for a straw and crackers, and it took close to ten minutes after getting my soup to get both. She never checked on me during the meal except to drop off the bill. She did ask if I needed a box to take my leftovers home. When I went to cash out, the woman working the register never even looked at me... all she said we are you adding a tip? I left $3 on a tab less than $5 and she literally tossed my debit card on the counter towards me after it was charged... never even looking up at me...I will never visit this establishment again. We were there this morning - and apparently overstayed our time in the booth. We were told they were busy and people were waiting...and had to leave. Well - We did after paying our $14.00 bill and leaving a $10.00 tip. I'm not sure about my dear friend - but I will never be back. To treat customers like that is in very poor taste!! THE WAITRESS GOT A $10.00 TIP - geez. How many other tables could you seat those people at who were standing in line. Meh, the food wasn't that great anyway. As my daughter and I were leaving and paying our bill, an employer opened the kitchen door, and there were trays of food ON THE FLOOR.. one tray looked like cabbage rolls. We will never go there again after seeing this. How unsanitary! I am going to be checking the Macomb County Board of Health regarding this situation.
