We went out of our way to try the BBQ at this restaurant tonight as we had read favorable reviews online. We were VERY disappointed. We tried ALL of their meats and can say there was no smoke or BBQ flavor except for the watery sauce that was sparsely on some of the meat. The chicken was the worst! It appeared to be boiled with a little sauce on it-no flavor and watery. The brisket was dry, no smoked or bbq flavor and no sauce on it. The pulled pork had no flavor. The ribs were probably the best of the worst. They had sauce on them. At 4:45pm we were told it would be a 30 minute wait if we ordered a baked potato. ( Mind you they only opened for business at 4:00 pm ) We chose not to wait and ordered the dirty rice instead. Mixed drinks were good and the coleslaw was excellent. Service was fine. We can't get to Sunapee often, but when we do we hit the Wildwood Smokehouse! The food here is the incredible. The kind of BBQ with soul. The kind of BBQ where you roll up your sleeves and damn be the mess! Dive in with all fingers. And if you're like me and you just need a salad - the Caesar is simple and delicious. Now - maybe even more important - Erika who is working the entire bar and everyone in the tiny house is an absolute doll. She truly makes the difference between eating amazing food and having an amazing experience. For the record - the best mojito I've ever had. Even our vegetarian daughter loved her salad and Mac and cheese. So I forgot to take a photo of the food (lol) starving! But here's us before we dug in. 3 Stars mainly because this place just obviously can't be some kind of crazy BBQ operation but at least they put in an effort. It is SUPER local type place. Anyone that goes there is a friend or familiar face. Very tiny, awkwardly on the side of a hill, some kind of flea market operation going on inside there with a bunch of random items all over the floor. Does it bug the people that go there? Not even a little bit. People are friendly and service was great and all but lets talk real here, this place is in operation because of the few local people that show their support and the few vacationers to this lake area in the summer. Got a 2 Meat combo with ribs, brisket, Mac and cheese and Beans. Ribs were baby backs and covered in sauce more than I have ever seen before at any other place. Almost like these things were cooked in the sauce. Meat texture and smoke flavor was on par but the sauce was a little strange to me, not in a bad way. Just wasn't a sweet sauce like I thought it might be, didn't have a real distinct flavor to it IMO just a general savory BBQ style I guess. I could taste a little bit of some type of rub on the ribs though and that made me sad because the sauce complete covered the taste of almost anything else. Brisket was pretty good actually, Good moisture, good tenderness. Bark had a distinct Black Cracked Pepper on in. fat melted decently enough. Not bad Mac and Cheese I thought was pretty good, not a lot of cheese though. Pasta cooked well and certainly looked more like buttered pasta with maybe a sprinkle of cheese but it did have a bit of a cheese sauce in there. Beans were beans. Maybe some bits of brisket in there but it was pretty much the typical canned bean style. Really like the cornbread. Good sweet cornbread that baked in a little muffin tin and the bread cooked up into what looked like a drop biscuit for a top. Not authentic cornbread by my standards at all but still a great rush to it and a nice little zing of sweetness in the bread, more like a little cake. We also had some Nachos with pulled pork on them. Typical what I call New England Style nachos. Just bar type with nice melted cheese and a sprinkle of some pickled jalapeño. Pulled pork on them was excellent, would have got it with chili but they were out. Just a no frills Nacho, plenty of them, nothing crazy at all. read more

Well. Where do I start? We were greeted by a nice lady who came back to work after a year and a half. First impression, nice, great decor and cozy. The nice lady came back and lay down a Bounty paper towel as our napkin. Cool? After ordering, we found out they didn't have ribs. Hmm. Are we at the BBQ place? After 20 minutes, we got our appetizers, wings. They were excellent. Fall off the bone excellence. This was our highlight of today meal. The rest were going downhill real fast. Bake beans - I think it might came out from the can. Briskets - dry dry dry dry. They came in bits and pieces, not all slice (see image). We agreed with other reviewers before me. I only ate a few bites. Mac N Cheese - very gritty. Possible from the box. Sausages - They were very greasy. Hmm, did I order deep fried instead of BBQ? Fountain soda - flat. I had been here a number of years ago did not care for it but after reading some positive reviews I thought I would give it a try. The place is small but very nicely decorated in a western style it's clean and has a few nice beers on tap. Unfortunately the food is just not very good the pulled chicken was very dry as well as the pulled pork and lacked that smoke flavor. The ribs were not too bad somewhat moist but again lacked that smoky flavor as for the sides pretty much all were lacking; mac & cheese not very good the beans bland I will say the corn bread was very good I gave it two stars because it's very clean well decorated and the service was pretty good read more

Last month a group of 80 veterans camped out for a weekend at Pillsbury State Park for our annual "Vets Off-Grid" event. In previous years, we either had food donated from the campers or had a BBQ ourselves. This year we decided to go with "catering" and I'm incredibly glad that we did! Debbie and her team cooked everything for us, and then we picked it up and served it at the campsite. The food was outstanding! We had the pulled chicken and the brisket, which were both outstanding. The few leftovers there were tasted even better later. While the food was great I was most impressed with the service and effort that Debbie and her team had put in. Cooking 40 lbs. of BBQ is quite a feat. We were discussing menu options for months, calling back and forth, and her patience and knowledge were endless. She also provided us with all the serving trays, sternos, and utensils, and packaged up the au jus for us so it didn't ruin the integrity of the brisket while traveling. The prices were also very fair for the amount of servings you get. I didn't get to spend much time at their location, but the actual restaurant has a really cozy saloon vibe to it. They were closed when I went to pick up our food so it was quiet, but they let me sip on a beer while I waited and watched TV, which was really nice considering how much running around was going on that weekend. They also had a surprisingly good selection of beers on tap. I had the Sea Dog Sunfish wheat beer, which was a refreshing sit down beer. The restaurant takes you back in time. It's almost like walking into a time capsule. Very laid back atmosphere which is great when you have a messy child as part of your party. A complete surprise for my wife and I...a BBQ restaurant in a strange location in downtown Sunapee. Small (24 seats) and very western looking (complete with tin ceiling and faux bullet shots in the windows). Food was nicely prepared. Wagon wheel garden tomato salad was fresh with feta and olive oil and herbs was a perfect start. Flavorful and visually appealing. Then came the ribs (for me) and the brisket and sausage variety pack (for my wife). Ribs were perfectly cooked and succulent (and filling). The brisket was moist and fall off the bone tender. Sausage was good as well. Sides--the slaw was great. Dirty rice (spices and pieces of dry meat) was a treat. Corn rolls were just a tad dry. Good wine and beer list and service (from owner) was attentive and she was helpful to boot. Strange location, but there is a small lot across the street for convenient parking. No reservations taken- so we arrived early to make sure we got in. We will go again with the kids. Terrific for delivering food for a 15+ person party, particularly if you are hosting an outdoor summer shindig on the lake. read more
