Very unprofessional. Had an appointment for Monday Aug 10 at 8:00 at Wilhelm. Arrived at 7:45. Told the guy behind the desk I had a 8:00 appointment. He told me the workers start at 8:30. I went in and dropped my truck off for a solenoid repair. Waited for a solenoid that failed to arrive "intact" for nearly 3 months. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was initially told that the solenoids were on national backorder but I couldn't find anything about it online.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Generic brands available but shop doesn't want to touch outside parts. I had to pick the truck up after a while, it was very dirty when I picked it up. Avoid Wilhelm Automotive if you value professionalism and respect. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My experience here was nothing short of frustrating and insulting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I brought my vehicle in for diagnostics and paid $135 for what turned out to be a quick check. Their solution? Replace the battery for $300, even though it worked fine the night before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I declined their overpriced service and said I'd replace the battery myself, the mechanic became visibly irritated and kept going on about "Economics 101," as if charging outrageous prices and being condescending were part of some grand lesson.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They they became rude about requesting the veteran discount.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It didn't stop there despite me being nothing but nice to them. When I returned to replace the battery myself, they refused to reset a simple warning light, smugly claiming that I hadn't "paid them enough" for the service. Keep in mind, the diagnostic they charged $135 for took less than an hour. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This shop's attitude is appalling. My 82-year-old mother got her brakes inspected on her 2015 Honda Accord. Wilhelm automotive told my mother that she needs all new brakes and rotors for $2200 and a new oil cap for $200. One week later, my got a second opinion at Brake Masters who put the car on the lift and removed all for tires for full brake inspection and told my mother that everything was within normal range with 6 mm brake pads and perfect rotors and no oil leaks anywhere. Avoid Wilhelm automotive Due to their fraudulent and deceptive business practices. Shame on them for trying to take advantage of an 82-year-old lady. read more

Took my truck here for a simple tire rotation with balance, had also requested that they criss cross rotated my tires. I waited 3 hours for this by the way; not only did they NOT criss cross rotate my tires, but they also DID NOT screw down the lug nuts tight enough on my front two tires. My front tires started shaking as soon as I took it out of the lot. Overpriced for 2 simple services that weren't even performed correctly. I am never taking any of my business here again. read more

Just like some of the other Yelp reviews I've read yes they do change the price from what they tell you over the phone and it's different when you get to the shop and have to pay. I had my car a Mercedes-Benz oil change there and I needed my transmission done I did not like the way that the customer service was at the front desk so I ended up taking it to the benz shop.they did a wonderful job.. at this time I do not recommend the Wilhelm shop in Peoria. And after reading the reviews it always seems like they all have an excuse for what happened at the shop whether it be prices or time or fixing of a car. Just seems really funny to me that they have a German name but they really don't know how to work on German cars.. read more

Been going to the 82nd Ave and Grand location for 10 years but after last 2 visits I'm not going back. Early Aug. 2024 made appt for oil change and while car was there wanted to have some other work done on it. It wasn't until a couple weeks later that I realized they did the pricey work and never did the oil change, shame on me for not looking at the receipt carefully. So I made appt again to drop car off at 10am for oil change today. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The new manager, Gerson Carcache, doesn't understand customer service or being efficient very well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]He thought it was more important to appease an elderly man at the register who was making small talk, how was your Labor Day, small block engines, back to Labor Day and finally the man said, Let me tell you a story." At no point did the elderly man drop off or pick up a car.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When the story telling started I asked if I could just leave my keys and go? The elderly man said to wait my turn, continued his story and the manager told me I should have come earlier if I didn't want to wait. They told me to drop off at 10am. and I was there at 9:50am! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Thank goodness for the other staff, Michael, who understands people are busy and was very efficient.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After the elderly man left, the manager had the nerve to ask me if I thought my time was more important than the man's time. I had an issue and needed help right away, drove straight to the shop. They got me in right away which was amazing! They needed to keep my car so they offered to take me to go to get a rental car or drive me home, which I thought was above and beyond some thing a automotive shop does. The manager was the sweetest person and helped me so much. I was really upset about the situation and she was amazing. I had never been here before but I'm definitely going back and they are awesome! Made appointment to drop car off Friday afternoon. They didn't look at it until Saturday afternoon. If you're not gonna look at it when scheduled drop off, why have me drop off then? I could have had a vehicle for another 24 hours. I wanted an oil change and ac repair. Also had them do a visual inspection to make sure vehicle was in good order. Oil change done, AC cold. Then they say my brakes are bad and a list of repairs that equaled pretty much complete new brakes all around. I ain't a mechanic, but I know that I can get the parts from O'Reillys for a quarter of what they wanted to charge me. I also know brakes are a fairly simple thing to fix, so labor wouldn't equate to the difference. I understand that they may use premium parts, but not everybody has the money to pay for top dollar parts and other options should be offered. read more

My car wouldn't start. It would after multiple tries and once after a jump. It wasn't the battery. I called at 7:31 right after they opened they said I could bring it in and they would look at it. They even offered to get me a lift back home. I dropped off my car at 8:30 and they called me at 11:30 to let me know yea my battery was fine but the cables were very loose and the terminal was corroded. They tightened all cables and cleaned the battery and it was back working great. I decided to get an oil change too since I was due. They finished quickly and efficiently.it even ended up being a little cheaper than I was quoted on the phone! Everyone was so kind and I was very pleased. My spouse Ventura has always recommended this company but we have never used them since he is a mechantic himself. We used them last week for the first time ( my spouse is now 78 & just can't do all the repairs himself). We took in our 66 Super Sport classic to have the starter aligned as it was hitting the fly wheel. Well it was a bad job, the cost had doubled, when he came to pick it up there were still parts in the car that had not been put back on & when we got it home it only worked for a few hours. He called Wilhelm very upset. We brought the car back to have it fixed still unsure. Wilhelm made all the corrections and even did a carb adjustment so the car runs fantastic now and my spouse is VERY happy with the results. Excellent mechanic shop. Fair prices and honest people. I have had multiple visits with them and they have been great every time. My last visit they fixed an issue that my car has been having for years, i have taken this car to probably 4 different mechanics to try to figure out the issue and wilhelm was the only place to correctly diagnose and fix the problem. Ended up being a 25 dollar fix too where i was fearing it could be an exapensive transmission problem. So happy i found this place, my go to from here on out. read more

I've been looking for a place to take my 2014 Jeep Patriot that is *not* a dealership, and finally got a recommendation to try this shop. Every person - from the courtesy car driver to the front desk folks to the technicians themselves - provided top-notch service. Plus, I truly believe they have their client's best interest in mind when it comes to prices and recommendations. I was given quotes for things that weren't immediate safety threats that I could budget for down the road, and yet they still managed to fix everything that *was* an immediate need same day! Dropped off at 8am and by 5pm I was back in my Jeep, driving it with no more anxiety. Very reasonable prices (according to my friends, dad and others who I showed the invoice to), and superior service have won my loyalty! Tried giving small business owners my business. Willing to pay a little extra for the attention to detail that they do provide. Where they struck out is making promises they don't keep. Took my car in for an oil change. Quoted about an hour. Six hours later we called to learn they were finishing paperwork. That was eventually e-mailed to me the following day because they were going to close and I needed to get my car. Second time was a return for a road hazard on my tire. Was quoted again an hour as they just had to patch it. Once again I called 4 hours later to be told they didn't know where my car was. The guy assumed they were out test driving it so I assumed it was done. Finally got back on the phone and said it was next to go into the bay. Hadn't even started it. Ended up taking another six hours. I would be fine if you stated we are busy may be end of day but the fact that you continually say an hour is not good customer service. Sorry folks but looks like you are too busy to need my business. That was the last time we come to your shop. read more

Let me preface with we have never had a problem for the last 15+ years with the Wilhelm on Indian School Rd & Litchfield. Sadly, we had to have our truck towed to this location because of the circumstances. After the diagnostic they gave an estimate of 18,000. Later, Jones Ford estimate was 12,000 and where we had it repaired was half the price at 9500.00 by the way all using Ford parts and doing the same procedures. Needless to say we had it towed to another facility and when I called to pay my bill they told me 161.00. No problem we paid it. This was last Saturday. My husband received a call the following Monday and was told we owe 121.50 for the tow now. He let me know Monday night. Thursday he gets a voicemail and here is the transcription minus the tone. "Hi Jim this is Nancy calling from Wilhelm automotive in Peoria. I am the manager of the facility we have been trying to reach you in regards to the towing bill that you have with us for your vehicle that was towed in for repair. Ummm 121.50 is the total of the towing. We expect it to be paid by the end of the day tomorrow otherwise I will go ahead and contact Copies Towing so they can make contact with you but we prefer to get this handled if you can please give me a call so we can get this resolved immediately otherwise I will go ahead and record it as non-payment and will have to pursue it in different direction. I'm hoping we don't have to do that sir I know it's just a overlook so if you can please give us a call and provide us with a credit card for payment for the towing we would greatly appreciate it please reach out to Nancy or Griffin at 623-979-3740. I will look forward to hearing from you by tomorrow thank you." 1st-They called him Monday then left him that message on Thursday. Not sure where the "we've been trying to reach you" comes from. 2nd-we never received a bill. Not sure if one is in our truck where Chance said he would put the diagnostic bill that was paid on Saturday for 161.00 but either way there has been no bill provided that we know of. 3rd there was no tone in this review but there is one on the voicemail we received. I assume your business manager will reply but I would like a bill for these charges that I can turn into my insurance and the oversight was not the customers Nancy it was your facility that didn't charge us. We have no problem paying a bill that we owe and we owe the tow but your professionalism Nancy should be reviewed. read more

Wilhelm in downtown Cave Creek is the one I'm reviewing, used to be owned by Tobias, which was great. Since then it's been on a downhill decline. This latest trip there was the last straw. I'd been bringing my vehicles there, including my truck, for at least 10 years and they looked up the truck when I called. I reminded them anyway that it was a diesel, but they didn't tell me they now have diesel mechanics only in Peoria. Charged me a bunch of money and told me I needed to take it to their Peoria location to fix the engine problems. That was the last straw with these guys. I took it to Impact Diesel instead which did an awesome job. Finally done with Wilhelm for any of my vehicles. Seems like most of the good folks are gone from there. read more

Road trip from Cali to Sedona and our tires needed a rotation. Found this place on a whim and through positive yelp reviews, stopped by. They took us right in, and did the work and got our vehicle back to us in under a half hour, if that. The service was excellent, nice workers, very clean facility and bathrooms. It's nice to see a family-owned business run well. You can tell the owners and employees take pride in their business and customer service!! To comment on the shop/waiting lounge, it's a very comfortable, welcoming lounge, and sports the original mac book pro computer (hehe) on display, as well as other neat wall displays, and vintage antique items. The bathroom was also immaculately kept, nice that it was clean and well stocked. This business isn't your typical tire center, and we enjoyed (albeit short) our stop there. Thank you for taking care of us and sending us on our way quickly!!! And by the way, they didn't charge us to have our tires rotated...who does that!? Two thumbs up, A++, if we ever have car issues driving through the area again, we'd stop here hands down!! read more

I've taken my cars to Wilhelm Automotive first, at Indian school and Litchfield Road and then followed that manager to a new location on Estrella Parkway at Highway 85. They are very trustworthy. they have excellent service and their mechanics are top notch. They are a little on the expensive side but I feel that they go the extra mile to be honest and upfront with me last week I had the occasion to have to have my car towed into the location on Peoria and grand Avenue which is their flag ship location. Not knowing the manager or any their mechanics there, I called Adam at the Estrella location and just ask if he would chat with them and let me know what they were posing. They worked that out and he assured me they had very good mechanics there and they could be trusted. Gorge was quick to help and get my car taken back. They did a free inspection and estimate for me then i asked them to fixed the damage and they did in a very prompt manner. While driving on the 101 Freeway in Phoenix, my car accelerator went out, a very scary thing to happen in rush hour! I had my car towed to the location where I was staying and called Wilhelm's the next morning. They came and towed it to their shop and analyzed what needed to be done, called me with the results for approval and completed the work within a few hours. When they were finished, they called me back and asked if I wanted to have them do a free analysis for any further problems. The staff was VERY understanding, courteous, honest and charged me reasonably. The actual repair only took 3 hours. Great job! We've been coming to this place for years. The service is great, they've been nothing but honest with us, and their price estimates are always on the money when the work is finished. I don't like that the price of a diagnostic isn't credited towards the shop work that they ultimately do. If you go for a diagnostic then leave, sure charge people. But if the work is done there, credit at least part of the diagnostic fee towards the subsequent work. Honestly, if I had another mechanic that I really trusted who was cheaper, I'd probably go there. I keep coming back here because I trust the mechanics and the work they do, and I bite the bullet on the price. read more

When the check engine light went on several months ago, I checked several auto service places to see what the problem could be and was told possibly, a vapor leak, maybe $800. Thought I'd get a diagnostic check at Wilhelm. They had a coupon and were rated highly on Yelp reviews. The office/waiting area is very nice, but maybe you pay for this by being charged higher prices. The cost came to $1348 ($1240 for the manifold gasket leak and $108 for the diagnostic). When I complained about the cost of the diagnostic, the manager gave me a ten dollar bill and said "Will this make you happy?" I left, knowing I would't be back and had the work done at one of original places I had gone to (Joe's Auto) and had the work completed for $480. The car runs perfectly! So glad I didn't have the work done at Wilhelm. read more

Best mechanic I've ever had. Honest, great staff. Love the fact that on oil change they don't try & upsell you with unnecessary things like all those Spiffy Quick Lube places. They also do a thorough check of your car during oil inspection. And, the prices are excellent! The other day I brought my car in & expected a few issues. Instead I was returned with, "There is nothing wrong with your car, it's in excellent shape." First time a mechanic has said this to me. Recently I discovered they are leading a collection point for flood victims, & offer $10 off for donations. What an asset to the community in many ways! read more

This was my first time going to Wilhelm Auto and didn't really know what to expect. What I received was a nice surprise. These guys really go over your vehicle from head to toe. No hard sell just keeping me informed on what I will need to have done in the near and distant future. They are very fair priced in my opinion, I have always taken my vehicles to the dealership to have work done, but not anymore. We had just moved to Arizona and my air conditioner in my car quit after 3 days! I did my research online and this place was highly recommended. In a complete panic I called Wilhelm and spoke with John. I explained our situation and he got us in that day. We had a complete air conditioning system replacement because our compressor had collapsed and the entire system was shot. They took such good care of us and understood this was our only vehicle and it was over 115 degrees outside. They worked with my schedule and walked us through costs and time for repairs. The courtesy vehicle was available to get us to home and back. I am so impressed with is this garage and will never go anywhere else for my car. They made a really bad situation bearable and we could not be happier. My a/c has a 3 year warranty and as a newbie to Arizona, my commute is now comfortable. read more

I had my son take his truck in for a oil change maybe 2 months ago and he has maybe a thousand miles on the oil change, no oil leaks verified by them but it holds 4.5 qts. of oil and after we checked it it was low he went back and they said it was 3 qts. low with no explanation. My opinion is that they did not put the correct amount in and they suggested another oil change and want me to pay for it! I will no longer take my business to Wilhelm. Piss poor customer service as the guy on the phone said I don't have a crystal ball to know if the correct amount of oil was added. Caution......if you do go there check your levels once you arrive home. read more

This is an update to a 1 star review from a couple of weeks ago. Long story short work was done on my Truck. After having the vehicle repaired the next day I had the same problem Wilhelm did charge me 1300.00 for a fuel pump, and clearly did not fix the problem and apparently did not do a diagnostic before fixing and charging me for a service I did not need. You see the issue was a factory recall issue and the fix was authorized to be fixed for free by the dealership. Chris the area manager called me and advised me he had found this information out with just a quick search and call to the local dealership. He was very apologetic and refunded all my money. His willingness to go above and offer a refund was 5 star service. I however cannot rate a 5 due to the full experience. read more

I took my Toyota Camry Hybrid in to the Toyota dealership first, because I was having some technical glitches and was priced something crazy high by someone I didn't trust there. I decided to try someone I found on Yelp and luckily it was Wilhelm! I went in and the owner priced me very reasonably and said he could fix it same day! When he finished the work he told me the Toyota dealership wasn't mistaken on the high price and he had accidentally looked up the wrong battery model when he priced me so low. Since it was his bad, he still gave me the incredibly low price! I respected his honesty and willingness to make my very stressful experience a delightful one! read more
