While visiting my folks in Goodyear, AZ, I came out to a completely flat back tire on my car. I wasn't sure where to go to get help, so I 'Google'd' Tire Shops in Goodyear, AZ. Although many tire shops came up in my search, one company stood out to me -- that wasn't even a dedicated tire shop. It was Wilhelm Automotive. The reason they stood out to me was because of the glowing reviews from customers, like myself, who have limited knowledge surrounding auto-repair needs... or knowing who to trust! (Especially for those of us who tend to feel intimidated by auto-repair shops that have been dishonest, are all about 'up-selling' services & parts you don't actually need and/or those who are 'shady' at best. I was also surprised to see an auto repair shop that came up on a tire shop search. But right at the top of their reviews, there was a review surrounding Wilhelm providing excellent service that involved tires/tire fixes and replacement. After filling the tire up with air, I noticed a nail with a slow leak, and since they were so close, I drove out their way. I just have to say that deciding to go to Wilhelm Automotive when I was having an issue with my tire was the best decision I could have ever made. Not only did they fix my flat tire, they also looked at and fixed another tire that I had been having issues with. No shop in Los Angeles would fix it for me, insisting that I needed to purchase a brand new tire (which actually meant buying two new tires because of the all-wheel drive situation on my 2015 Subaru Outback). Even from the exact tire shop that I had originally ~ and recently~ bought 4 brand new tires from!!! Wilhelm Automotive fixed both tires no problem and with none of the issues I was repeatedly told there would be, by multiple shops I had asked to. (I was a bit shocked, and when I asked how they ended up fixing it... with a patch or plug? I was told that they did a combination of both to ensure that the tire is solidly and permanently fixed, is completely safe and 'as good as new')!! They also had my passenger side windshield wiper blade in stock (that I had asked about as well) and replaced it for me after fixing my tires. When I went up to the counter to pay my bill after my car was brought out for me (only 40 mins later, I was told 'you're good to go! we're good! just please consider using us for any other car repairs that might come up')! I could t believe it!! I was in total shock... they wouldn't even let me pay for the wiper blade and I pretty much had to force them to, at very least, take a tip from me!!! I was ~delightfully~ in shock the rest of the day. I have made my folks (& their friends & neighbors) promise me to ONLY go to Wilhelm Auto from here on out!! I'm sorry to report that this review is {finally} here ~ so long after-the-fact, but life as a hard-working single Mom has a way of coming in between such things. A charge for a roadside service was estimated at a lower price then basically doubled on the final bill. The service rep would not credit back the charge stating his Manager would need to do this. However the Manager did not call me back. Also, a tier 3 tire was priced for the 2 front tires I purchased. They replaced 2 tier 2 tires. I wasn't told the tires being purchased were tier 3 tires. Tier 3 tires do not provide a high quality experience vs a tier 2 tires. I should have been provided a choice of either buying a tier 2 tire or tier 3. I'm extremely disappointed that I even have to write a review like this. I recently brought my truck into this shop to have the A/C checked it was blowing warm. They told me they could not find any issues so they did a drain and recharge with dye. $600 I asked for a copy of the machine report breaking down amount removed amount put in. I was told they would email it they never did. After picking it up, I drove straight home and parked it. Today, I opened my center console and discovered that my coin holder was missing. This wasn't something loose that could have accidentally fallen out or been misplaced. It was mounted into the center console and required effort to pry out and remove. It was taken. I contacted the shop and spoke with Eric. He told me he checked the technician's toolbox and said it wasn't there, suggesting that I must have misplaced it. That explanation simply doesn't make sense given how securely the holder was installed. What's most concerning is that if someone felt comfortable removing and taking something as minor as a coin holder full of change, it raises serious questions about what else could potentially be happening with customers' vehicles and belongings. Eric suggested I file a police report and stated that their employees are "too busy to steal." I'm not looking to get anyone into legal trouble over a coin holder, but I do expect honesty, accountability, and respect for customers' property. This experience has completely broken my trust in this shop. I will not be returning for future repairs or service, and now I'm left questioning whether the work performed on vehicles is even being done properly especially since I never got the email. To current and future customers: I strongly recommend removing all personal belongings from your vehicle before bringing it here. Update June 5th it's been over two weeks since speaking with a district manager. He was able to pull up and send me the work that was done to my vehicle. I was over charged for the service "performed" he then told me I would receive a refund for the overcharge of service. I reached out to customer service about it then Nick Lee called again informing me they would refund me the over charge in another way but still nothing yet. I've reviewed Wilhelm in the past with both positive and negative evaluations, but my recent visit deserves a review all its own. I had my Jeep Wrangler towed there when it refused to start. Technicians were backed-up with repairs and encouraged me to leave it there until they could look at it. That took place nine days later. At drop-off I agreed to an Electrical System Diagnostic (Digital Vehicle Inspection) which was about 30% higher than similar inspections from other shops in the area. I can say this with confidence because I had electrical diagnostics run on two different vehicles at four different auto shops within the last year and simply comparing invoices reveals the numbers. When they inspected the vehicle, they emailed me a very impressive AutoServe1 Digital Report listing the reasons for my visit, the tech's comments, which systems were operational and which might require service. This was accompanied by images and videos of the items listed. I must say, this kind of detailed digital report commands a certain level of confidence in the procedures. As it turned-out the ignition issue was merely a faulty negative battery terminal and the Electrical System Diagnostic was not required, but I was charged nonetheless. They also discovered a frozen brake caliper. Since I had little information on the repair history of this Jeep, I decided to go for the whole enchilada and replace both front brake rotors, pads as well as the frozen caliper. I was prepared for a jaw-dropping estimate and my expectations were confirmed. After I caught my breath, paid the bill and drove home, I examined the invoice carefully. Included with all the totals, was a Shop Supplies charge of $99.83. Not an insignificant amount. This was in addition to being charged high-market prices for the parts used in the repairs. I've been driving for over 50 years, owned dozens of vehicles, and I have never seen a shop supply charge approaching $100. Perusing old invoices I found some shop supply charges ranging from $2 to $22, and even remember one outlier for $44. This was for part that was no longer being manufactured and had to be fabricated from scratch. I'm not necessarily accusing Wilhelm of bill-padding or anything nefarious. They're well-known for prices trending toward the upper end of automotive repair industry, and you acknowledge that when you hand them your keys. Still, I would encourage future customers to scrutinize their invoices very careful before signing on the dotted line and ask for a detailed digital invoice before agreeing to any repairs. Customers are in a vulnerable situation when they require emergency auto repair and shops are acutely aware of this. UPDATE! The day after posting this review I was contacted by the store manager with a desire to address my concerns and determine "if there's any way that I can make you whole." Well, they didn't make me whole - more like half - but he agreed to credit the Shop Supplies fee of $99.83, explaining that certain criteria/repairs trigger an automatic charge that is "baked into the system" and can't be altered. Now you can take that with as many grains of salt as you like, but a deal was struck and he made a reasonable attempt to address my complaints. I need to add that Wilhelm does good work, but watch your wallet once you cross the threshold. They charge elevated prices for the same services provided for significantly less by other independent repair shops in the area. They have their business model and it clearly works for them. So if you live nearby and convenience trumps price, go for it. But take your reading glasses and ALWAYS check sub-totals before turning over your credit card. read more

My husband and I took our car in for an oil change and they took us in the next day. It was completed quickly and the people in the office were all so kind and helpful. Took my vehicle in due to a engine code appearing on my dash. Took my scan tool and determined that it was a faulty oil pressure sensor which i found out was a common problem with the make of my vehicle. I checked on Ebay and the pressure sensor as anywhere from as low as $14.00 to as much as $60.00. AI also told me to replace the Oil Cooler if I was going to pay to have this job done. They apparently have a tendency of cracking. The Oil cooler which included both sensors and the complete gasket kit ranged from $60.00 to $100.00 Took it to Wilhelm Automotive in Cave Creek 85331. They put together an estimate for approx $2500.00. I had them send it to me for review because I could not believe the quote. They quoted me 1 hour to plug it into their reader ($205.00) when i already plugged it into my reader an told them the code was P0520 . Now here comes the unbelievable part. They quoted me $760.00 for the oil cooler and an additional $169.00 for the gasket kit. Also quoted me for an injector flush and windshield wiper replacements and included $100.00 for "shop supplies". Went on AI and the job should not have cost me no more than $600 -$800 dollars. I sent an email telling them I did not ask for any of the other services, could they requote. No answer for 24 hrs. I called and was told the service manager was in an interview and I was promised a return call. I emailed again this time asking if I could provide the parts. No return call but I did get an email this time deducting the $760.00 for the oil cooler. Price now was approx $1850.00. I called again only to be told service manage was off that day and he would get back to me the following day. I sent another email inquiring why the $169.00 for the gaskets kit was not removed along with all the other upsells. (The oil cooler I purchased from Amazon was $100.00 and included the oil cooler, both sensors and the upper and lower gasket kit. This shop quoted me $940.00 for this part) The following day no return phone call, just another return email subtracting the $169 but not the upsells (getting really frustrated by this time) New quote approx $1700.00. I then emailed again and asked the service manager why he didnt properly read my previous emails and he was still pressing the upsells i did not want. Finally on the 4th day they sent me out another quote for $1198.00 for a job that should have cost me between $600- $800 dollars. I declined everything and went and retrieved my car at which time I was presented with an invoice for $205.00 for diagnostics. Remember I already scanned the code prior to taking the vehicle to them and told them exactly what it was I wanted to have them repair. There was no need for a scan, and I should not have been charged for it. The repair was pretty straight forward. Paid the invoice and quietly left. Please be mindful everytime you take your vehicle to a this particular shop. It would seem to me that this shop cared more about padding the bill and gouging me on the parts than they do about providing a reasonable quote and having a return client. Not only did i not get my vehicle repaired but I lost the use of it for 4 days. I would never take my vehicle back to this location for any reason and I live just around the corner. I takes a lot for me the get upset but this shop pushed all the buttons. read more

I've brought three different cars in and have had great experiences each time. My biggest concern is getting work done that does not need to be done. These guys are doing it the right way. Great customer service, rides home and back if needed and confident I am getting the work that needs to be done completed. We've used Wilhelm (this location) for years and never had an issue but at some point they changed owners and now we have nothing but negative experiences. Took my car in for an oil change on Saturday, got it back and Sunday realized they didn't reattach my skid plate so it was dragging and damaged. Brought it back to them Monday morning and they said they'd have it back to us by 2pm. Hadn't heard from them so we called them an hour before close and they had ordered the wrong parts and needed to keep it another day. Got my car back Tuesday afternoon and now it's LOUD when we're on the highway. Won't be bringing it back to them. They also replaced the AC in our truck about a year ago and we had no issues. Recently it started blowing lukewarm air intermittently. We've brought it to them 3x and every time they say there is no problem with it. They at one point replaced the condenser but it still has the same issue. The entire system is under warranty but they say they can't replicate the issue when they have it so they won't do anything to fix it. So after spending the money to have a brand new AC system put in, less than a year later we're back to having crappy AC. We recommended Wilhelm to family members within the last few months and they have had bad experiences too. At first we thought it was a fluke but now we know better. I made my first visit to Wilhelm Automotive. My only regret is that I didn't come here until today. Previously, I've always taken my vehicle to the dealership for service. My experience at Wilhelm was so much better. They performed a vehicle inspection based on the issues I was experiencing. Instead of an automatic, "this is what is wrong and this is what it will cost to fix", I was advised to take my vehicle to where I recently had new tires installed and have them re-do their work. I was also given a quote to replace my brakes, but was not pressured to have the work completed (although I likely will!) To top it off, I was not charged for the inspection or advice. I highly recommend taking your vehicle here for service. They are good people, will treat you respectfully, and will not charge you for things you don't need. I can't comment on value, or quality of work performed. My issue is they have a website that's allows You to choose your preferred service time/date, but they don't follow up. I have reached out to this business multiple times, and did actually receive one call back. The gentleman told me he would work on a quote and get back yo me. Nothing .. I chose this auto dealer because 1) they are just miles from my home 2) they have been in business since 1928 3) they had strong reviews and a good following. I am extremely disappointed in their lack of communication and follow up. I can't understand why management isn't proactive, and why there is no mechanism to ensure timely responses to potential customers occur. Stay away! If you're looking to get nickel and dimmed be my guest! I was about to spend $1000 there and also probably get my air conditioning compressor replaced as well. The day before I went in I was mailed a coupon for a free AC inspection. Knowing that it was the compressor probably at least I could have them take a look to be 100% sure and having the coupon at least could help. They told me no that coupon is just to look at it but if we wanted to actually inspect it that would be more money? I said never mind, and took my business across the street they looked at it free of charge said yes it was the compressor and I spent over $1000 with all my other repairs somewhere else and didn't give them the money because they were just trying to gouge me for every penny possible! I'm all about loyalty and good customer service and I don't feel like I got any of that when I would go there. The first time I went to this place I was thrilled! Honest responsive and appeared honest and thorough. Thought I found my new place for car repair. Then I went back and I felt taken. An oil change turned into a $650 ordeal. Didn't sound right. Turns out I got it done at another place for $250. New place told me that the parts needing replacement according to Willhelm did not need replacing. The rotor were slightly of need of refinish. No wonder the girl at front desk wouldn't look me in the face. She avoided eye contact at all cost. Felt, maybe, new management or owners. Just not right or a good feeling going there. read more

I'll make this quick. I took my vehicle in to Wilhelm because of a major oil leak. I dropped my car off and within 30 - 40 minutes I received a call from Nick. Nick told me what he thought was leaking and what it would cost to make the repair. He cautioned me by telling me that the cost could be more once he starts digging in to the problem. The vehicle was old (1997) and Nick told me he would not spend the money needed for the repairs but instead buy another vehicle. I commend Nick for his honesty because he could have told me he found the leak and what it would cost to make the repairs. Instead he told me I would be better off buying another vehicle. Thanks Nick, I donated the vehicle to an organization that helps veterans. Turned on my car this week to realize the AC had gone out. I got an insane quote from a 'reputable' shop near my work to get it fixed. My brother, who has had his car serviced here in the past recommended Wilhelm. Expecting a similar experience I took it here to get a second opinion. Wilhelm quoted a substantially lesser amount and offered to fix the broken part rather than replace it. This is the kind of detailed service you always hope for, but never really get. Turns out this is the neighborhood shop you can trust. Benjamin was super helpful, friendly, he was responsive, his team cared for my car, even rotating the tires at no cost. I took one of our cars for the oil change and check-up and was very impressed with service, professionalism and knowledge of all associates. I recently brought my 04 4runner to the Goodyear location on Estrella because it was on the verge of overheating at stoplights. While the customer service was stellar, the price structure was perhaps the worst I've ever seen. I certainly don't expect something for nothing, but the price I was quoted borders on price-gouging. I was quoted $1687.00 for the job. I was absolutely astounded by this to say the least. There was no way I was going to let Wilhelm touch my truck for this price so I did some calling around. I found a place that would quote me based off the quote Wilhelm gave me, so I emailed him the quote. Ten minutes later they called me back with a quote for $967.78 to do the EXACT same job. When I brought the truck to their shop, we double checked the work order and he took down my information. He then asked me where I got that quote from (I only emailed the portion of the Wilhelm quote that contained the work to be done). When I told him, he and several other people in the office started to laugh. Confused, I asked what the issue was. He told me that Wilhelm is the biggest rip-off in town, and I tend to believe him. He went on the say that ever since Wilhelm became all corporate, they have been getting more and more business. Perhaps Wilhelm will make the excuse that the other shop is using substandard parts, or that their mechanics aren't very good. If so, I'd say this would be a standard scapegoat response. What I do know is that the shop comes highly recommended after the fact. One thing is for sure however, I will never use Wilhelm for anything ever again and I there is no way I'd ever recommend them to anyone.....including my worst enemy. read more

He stated that this business has helped him so many times that he felt an obligation to help them. WOW! It is true that if I have ever run across a company that lives and breathes the "Golden Rule", it is Wilhelm. Update: Check received. Thx. October 9 update. Adam contacted me after reading the review I posted below, and investigating it. He apologized on behalf of Wilhelm for what he described as "irregularities" he discovered on our service order. Adam offered me fair and unsolicited compensation for the troubles and pledged to address internally. I feel that Wilhelm and Adam took great strides to right the wrong that I feel took place and respect them to that end. I will post one last update after I receive the check for the compensation. Original review: There was a time this place was awesome. That changed roughly 2 years ago. Wife and I have most our work done at the Indian School location now. We just had AC work done on wifes 2006 Mercedes ML360. The clutch on the compressor went out. They got it in quick and I cannot (yet) complain about quality of work. They typed on invoice that customer declined part 000 230 97 1180, which is the actual MB part. I WAS NEVER GIVEN THIS OPTION, SO I DID NOT DECLINE IT. Instead, they used part #471-1436. I googled this part. I can purchase it, from pretty much EVERYWHERE, for $350'ish. Wilhelm charged me $751 for the part only. So, as long as you do not mind a 100% markup on your parts, and them making false claims about the customer refusing parts, then they are the place to go. Wilhelm, I still believe in your overall company. Clean the swamp in the Goodyear location. Total crooks. I have decided to pursue this further. While charging a 100%+ markup may not be illegal, the statement that we refused a part/service may be. To be continued. read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Wilhelm. Unfortunately, while driving to work one day, I hit a massive piece of cement on the freeway. I was able to make it to work, albeit with pieces of my car dragging on the ground. I called wilhelm and asked if there was any way someone could take a look and see how bad the damage was done They told me to come right over, welcomed me immediately, took a look at my car right away and within ten minutes, my car was quickly repaired (as there was only superficial damage and nothing internal) and set me on my way. I even offered to pay and they declined. Also told me if any point I needed it re-checked, to stop by. Amazing customer service. This will now be my place to go for car issues. I feel like they had a prime chance to either ignore the problem (which Firestone did) or rip me off for a pricey solution, and they did neither. An honest assessment, a willingness to double check that assessment, and an outcome that resulted in a free and simple fix when they could have charged and I would have paid, not knowing any better.
