I love this studio - the teachers, space, locale and class options. It offers many classes and love their online payment and scheduling.

Moving from Texas, I have been on the search for a new yoga studio to call my home. Lila East End…read moreis a small studio where the mats face each other, you WILL be squeezed next to other people. In the middle, is a narrow path way for the instructor to pass through and to demonstrate. This is not your customary practice, but hey it's a new place so why not try something new? Came in to an "All Levels Yoga" with Chelsea. Chelsea, is an incredibly beautiful person inside and out. It's hard not to be mesmerized by her! However... this definitely felt more like a Beginners class. It is great if you're just starting or you've been out of practice for awhile. Chelsea has all the best intentions, but I tend to get lost (not mesmerized) by her verbiage. In yoga, a flow should be easy to follow just by closing your eyes and listening to what the instructor is saying. You follow through continuously, and that's what creates "The Flow". I've practiced for 9 years now, but for some odd reason, I WAS LOST. My feet were everywhere thinking this position was something new, when in reality, I'VE DONE WARRIOR POSES HUNDREDS OF TIMES. WHY COULDN'T SHE JUST SAY THAT. She ended class with everyone in Savasana... and proceeded to sing. I was definitely thrown off by that, but was strangely comforted by her soothing "Mom Voice" at the same time, And so, the search continues.

I was staying at The Press Hotel, about a 7-10 minute scenic stroll from here and decided to do a drop-in class at noon on a Thursday with Heather. The room is extremely inviting and comfy, with a perfect temperature (I dislike extremely warm rooms) and just enough natural light. Mats face each other, which I'm not used to, but it's definitely the way to optimize the long narrow space. Heather's class was playful, at times a bit more intense, but I'd say this is an all levels class, verging more on the gentle side. What I liked most about it was the departure from "typical" sun salutations. I get the idea that you can expect something a little different from class to class. Heather is an excellent instructor, kind and patient. If I lived in the area, I definitely would be a regular in her class. I'm already looking forward to my next trip to Portland so that I may return to this sweet spot!

So, when I'm sitting on my friends couch and contemplating if I should exercise, then kinda seriously injuring my back while not moving and still sitting on the couch...I feel like that's a sign...that I should go to the chiropractor and also start working out before my appendages start randomly falling off due to disuse. I had been to Align Studios for a yoga class just a week or so prior. The instructors (one of whom was also the chiropractor I saw) were quite knowledgeable and the class was amazing. I also kind of wanted to die in the middle of it, but in the best way, because the class was challenging and strenuous and I was covered in sweat. I really appreciated the adjustments and direction that the instructors made and I felt like I received great workout but also ended with a nice yoga vibe (I don't think this is a real thing, but I'm making it one). The studio itself is a beautiful and relaxing space with plenty spaces for bags, changing rooms, lots of sunlight, and they also sell a small selection of yoga supplies and essential oils (and maybe other stuff? There were cookies, so I was distracted). EVERYONE was incredibly friendly and very welcoming. There was also a concurrently running Lululemon trunk show and I purchased an amazing travel blanket scarf with ARMHOLES! But I digress... When deciding where to go for my first chiropractic experience, I decided to go back to Align Studios/Health. I called on a Sunday (What chiropractor is even open on a sunday!?!? bonus points!!!) and made an appointment for the next day. The person at the desk was super nice and very knowledgeable. After a very quick wait, Dr. Paul escorted me into his office/examination room. He understood that this was my first visit to a chiropractor ever and was both clear and thorough in his explanation. While I don't think that anyone enjoys getting an injury treated, this was certainly a relatively quick and painless visit. This is where the review is going to get very unintelligent, because I don't remember things ever. Dr. Paul used some type of pulsating machine combined with heat to make my back swell less, then he did some weird push-y thing on my back, then he cracked my back/neck. All I know is I felt significantly less pain then when I came in. I made a follow up appointment (I think this will take maybe four visits, per Dr. Paul) and promptly received an email confirmation. Obviously I'll be back as I'm the kind of person that breaks herself while sitting still on a couch, but I feel better about the healing process thanks to my experience at Align Studios/Health. I can definitely see myself signing up for more yoga classes and I definitely rank this class among the top three yoga classes I've attended. tl;dr Go here for yoga or chiropractic services, because this place is awesome and everyone is super nice and also knows their stuff!!!!

I'm…read morenot sure when they changed their name from Maine Bikram Yoga to Maine Hatha Yoga, but I love that they are no longer affiliated with the Bikram name. I'm not really into supporting Bikram Choudhury and the profits he makes off of 26 yoga poses (go ahead and google him). I've taken the Classic Hot 26 class with Michael and Angela, Fusion Yoga with Kristen, and Yin Yoga with Robin. I have enjoyed every class so far. For the classic hot 26, I love that the teachers I have had so far have emphasized different postures and have their own ways of teaching. This keeps it a little more interesting. I used to get so bored and annoyed with the "normal" Bikram script at other studios. I LOVE the Fusion yoga class because it is a different type of challenge and it mixes things up. Also, the music is great. While I was a little overwhelmed that this yoga studio is actually HOT, I've come to really appreciate it over the last month or so. They seem to keep the temperature very stable, which didn't always happen at other studios I've been to. Another thing that is different about this studio is that they don't spend a lot of time correcting people and complementing students during the classic classes. I've found that I now pay more attention to my postures and try to make the corrections myself. Of course, the teachers do make it a point to correct you and you are way out of alignment or you are doing something unsafe. I also appreciate the setup of the studio. I know this might sound like a tiny detail, but I really like how they can adjust the lights at different points during the classes. The first studio I ever went to would turn off the lights completely after the standing series and then I would fall asleep for a few minutes...which isn't ideal in the middle of a work out. Everyone is friendly and I haven't encountered anyone who has the elitist attitude of "oooh I practice yoga so I'm better than you" personality yet. Maybe that was just a vibe I got when I lived in the DC area? Just a little advice for anyone who has never done hot yoga, even if you feel like you are dying...just stay in the room. It makes a huge difference. Each time it gets a little easier!
