Egg rolls, shrimp, ribs, pork belly

Went to shoemakers for a nice dinner and it did not disappoint! We had some nice drinks, I ordered Good things come in pears and my husband had the Isabella of Castille. We decided to sample a few appetizers for our dinner, we got Sticky Baby Back Ribs, Country Eggrolls, Pork Belly, and Stuffed Jumbo Shrimp. The shrimp and the ribs were my favorite! And we had Crème brûlée cheesecake for dessert. Super attentive service as well. Very intimate and fancy atmosphere

I had an amazing experience that I wanted to share dining at the shoemakers. I decided to sit bar side at the restaurant since I was dining alone. I opted for a filet mignon, which was perfectly cooked to perfection, and was paired with fingerling potatoes and asparagus. It was a healthy 8 ounce size portion of filet mignon and sides. I ordered a deliciously made Cosmopolitan as well. The restaurants layout and atmosphere was rich & open spaced for comfortable seating. The restaurant seating side is quite large and spacious too. the menu itself has a variety of different options and you cannot go wrong with any of the main entrees.

I moved to downtown Lynchburg before Shoemaker was there. It's the kind of restaurant that you have your parents take you to when they come to visit because you can't afford it yourself. My parents are gone these days so I had to bring my 78-year-old self! Restaurant week seemed like a good time and the price fixe meal sounded just interesting enough to look like it would be a winner. The restaurant week dinner is an amazing combination of flavors selected because they blend into each other so well. It's a nice experience to have an expert chef create a menu that you will enjoy from beginning to end. This is a classy restaurant. At a table near me there were two gentlemen having dinner conversing in French. Right here in Lynchburg!!

We stopped in with no reservation. The manager tried to accommodate us. We sat at the bar for a drink until to our table was ready. Zach was a great bartender - very conscientious. Our waiter, Zach, was great as well. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the tuna special. Both were great!!

We had dinner tonight at Shoemaker's, staying in the hotel. The restaurant is extremely attractive, modern, quiet, nice. It's also welcoming, with responsive greeters. The food, however, was mediocre at best, and pretty expensive. It's a very close call as to whether we'd return. Yikes!

We thoroughly enjoyed everything! Our appetizers included Charred Octopus, Crab Cake and Ratatouille - all FANTASTIC! Entrees included Duck Breast, Lamb Shank and Chicken Roulade - delicious and absolutely NO Complaints. Okay, there is a complaint. there was NO room for dessert. Will return soon

    Here's the Ribeye.

Chef refused to prepare steak as requested. I asked for the $58 ribeye to be medium, Pittsburgh style (charred) and blackened. It came out rare with no char whatsoever. The waitress said she was reprimanded and he refused to blacken or char it, nor would he prepare as medium. I frequent top steak places around the country from NYC to LA to Dallas, but have never had a chef do this. I didn't want to cause a scene since I was there buying a meal for family. Very odd!! Waitress was great; ambiance was nice; food was good.

Bacon Steak and Seared Ahi Tuna

It was my boyfriend's birthday weekend (5/14) and I wanted to treat him to an amazing dinner out. I found Shoemaker's on OpenTable, reviewed the menu, and thought this would be ideal. We were pleasantly pleased! Although we didn't have reservations, the hostess suggested we sit at the bar and was very accommodating. Our bartender, Paul, was phenomenal! I tried ordering a drink, but, mistakenly looked at the wrong drink menu; however, he made a variation of it... an apple shooter. It was great! We asked him about some of the appetizers and he recommended the Bacon Steak and the Seared Ahi Tuna. The Bacon Steak was delicious, crispy and savory. Although the Seared Ahi Tuna did not initially look appealing, it was PHENOMENAL! It was seared ahi tuna, avocado, pickled red onions, ginger and hints of jalapeño. When pairing pieces of the Bacon Steak and Seared Ahi Tuna, it was a flavor explosion with each bite! My boyfriend ordered the Old Havana and I ordered a Titos Vodka Mule. Both drinks were amazing. For our entrees, I ordered the New York Strip with the herb salad and substituted broccolini while my boyfriend ordered the Filet Mignon and Lobster Ravioli. Everything was chef's kiss! Truly perfect! I was able to give my compliments to the chef as he made his rounds. Paul checked on us, wished my boyfriend a happy birthday, held great conversations with us and made the entire evening memorable. The decor of the restaurant was elegant and beautiful. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and intimate. I would definitely recommend this restaurant as a great date night, place to celebrate an anniversary or birthday.

We started with the calamari that was crispy and paired well with the remoulade sauce and the cajun bites that were sweet and spicy! Next we had the jambalaya and the steak pasta, both were excellent and were recommendations from our friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable wait staff. Our "arms were twisted" into getting the salted caramel blonde which was another on point recommendation. All in all we had a lovely first experience at RA and we will be back.

Exposed metal ceiling trusses and ventilation ducts combined with masonry walls and hardwood flooring certainly grabs your attention when entering for the first time. My wife had the backyard burger, my daughter had the Swiss chicken BBQ, my son had the honey spiced chicken and I had the mahi Oscar, which is gilled mahi-mahi topped with crab cake and asparagus. We also ordered the seafood Mac n cheese as an appetizer, which was probably the best dish. Although it was a single entree, they brought it out to us in four separate bowls, which was very thoughtful. No tip is required because they do charge a 20% dine-in service fee.

For my meal, I ordered the 6‑ounce sirloin steak cooked medium rare with a sweet potato. I added shrimp from the appetizer menu to top the steak and chose mixed vegetables as my side. The entire meal was worth every dime. The flavors were fresh, the steak was cooked perfectly, and the sweet potato with the brown sugar and butter was delicious. Even the bread with the butter was great. I truly felt I got my money's worth, and I will definitely be returning. I tried a margarita for the first time here. It was good, just a bit salty for my taste, so next time I'll order it with no salt. For dessert, I had the fried ice cream, and the honey drizzle was amazing--next time it's fried ice cream with honey all the way. The restaurant was clean, the staff was attentive, and the manager checked on us, which I appreciated. Our server was excellent--she came by often, paid attention to our needs, and made the experience even better. I'm giving a four‑star rating only because there was an order error that required us to wait for it to be corrected. That was the only issue I experienced. Besides that, everything else was great, and my first visit was truly a wonderful experience.

Undercooked, and sides are so odd. Everything tastes so processed. Like canned almost. The Alfredo was too bland and the fettuccine was cooked too soft. The managers/ owners were very kind. The servers were also super helpful and sweet. I'm from Texas so maybe I have steakhouses on another level. I would t come back here. Even the ambiance was super blah.
