He answered right away and calmly walked me through the steps to take, from calling the landlord and talking to the upstairs neighbor, to recommending cleaning afterward. Our A.O. Smith hot water tank had stopped working. It was still under warranty so the company sent us a new pilot assembly. We called the plumber we have used for other problems, the one who installed the tank initially (we didn't know about William Cruz Plumbing then), to install the new pilot assembly, but after he left, we noticed that the flame in the pilot area was much bigger than usual and made a loud sputtering sound, something we'd never heard before from the unit. We called him back. He claimed it was fine, but we were still worried about the tank's safety. I even had PG&E check it out, and their technician said it was okay. I then called A.O. Smith again and told the service person what we were experiencing. He said it was something they were familiar with and referred us to William Cruz Plumbing. Natalie, the woman I spoke with on the phone, said it sounded as if there was a hole in the burner, and she was right. She sent out a technician who confirmed the problem. A.O. Smith sent us a new burner as well as a valve assembly. Once these things arrived, Natalie did everything she could to get one of their workers out here to install these new parts, and our pilot assembly now functions normally. No flames. No loud sputtering. It's finally safe again. We're so grateful to have been referred to Cruz Plumbing, and we feel we now have a REAL plumber to call on when we need someone. When I called them, they came the same day after written confirmation no one had Covid or had been in contact with anyone who had it. They arrived with their mask on. Our sump pump stopped working on a Saturday morning just in time for the rain. Our 9 yr. old pump is in in the garage so I was quite worried about flooding. William took my call early and offered to stop by to take a look at the pump after he finished the job he was at. After I sent a few pics he told me he was on his way and stopped by his supplier and picked up a new pump, just in case, but told me I wasn't obliged to go with it if I didn't want to. I liked his efficiency. He gave me updates on his arrival and once he looked at and worked with the pump, he told me I didn't necessarily have to replace it and the stop was just a malfunction probably due to the age of the unit; he advised that it would be a good idea to replace it but gave me the option not to as long as I understood the risks. Although the pump did have some wear left on it I did decide to replace it to avoid a future flood. William did the work (and showed me how to do it) quickly and efficiently. Vacuumed the area afterwards and left it cleaner than it was prior to the work. Flat price was reasonable for a Saturday "emergency". I made at least twenty phone calls to plumbing companies on memorial day for a furious leak in a pipe outside in my back yard. Half the companies didn't respond, and half of them had some kind of "special" charges--- one company had the utter balls to say they would charge $395.00 just to come out and do an estimate on memorial day! Others had charges ranging from $90 to $190 just to come out and give an estimate, and many said they had no one working on memorial day. I called William Cruz Plumbing, and Natalie told me she might be able to get someone out in the afternoon or next day, she would check and call me back. She said they would charge $55 for the estimate l if I didn't hire them to do the work, and if I did hire them, they would only charge for the work. Natalie got right back to me, the plumbers came out exactly when they said they would, they worked efficiently, and it appears they did a good job. They charged a reasonable amount for the work, and were very pleasant to deal with. You really cannot ask for more. I will definitely call them whenever I need a plumber! read more

If you suddenly have a plumbing emergency, you can put an immediate end to your anxiety by contacting William Cruz Plumbing. Our old water heater died unexpectedly on a Friday afternoon. We reached out to a number of local plumbers but none had any time available for at least a week. Yikes! No way we could survive a week without hot water. My fellow real estate agent, Michael Price-Brown, recommended we call William. Boy was he right! William was phenomenal. He was sympathetic to our plight and switched some things around in his busy schedule so that he could get to us on Monday morning. He showed up exactly on time and evaluated the situation. He very patiently and thoroughly discussed our options. We asked about installing a tankless water heater. He explained the pros and cons. Even though it meant less money for him, based upon the information he provided, we opted for a traditional 40 gallon water heater. He had it installed by the end of that afternoon. In addition to his excellent work, he cleaned up a bunch of little things that needed to be replaced from the former plumber such as some pipe fitting, an air-vent stack and various connectors. William is an expert plumber with a ton of experience. More importantly, he is a man of integrity. William deserves 6 stars! He came to our house because we've always had poor drainage in our old Berkeley bungalow. For no charge, he crawled into the small crawl space, sussed it out, took pictures, and presented us with three different levels of repair options. We opted for the big kahuna, which entailed an entire day's work. He came with his helper at 8am, and stayed past 8pm, until the job was done enough so that we could have our plumbing back. He then returned the next day to finish up. And get this...he found a dead, bloated rat under the house, and with just a little cajoling, he agreed to extract it for us as well. That was WAY above the call of duty, and he refused a tip for doing that as well (Otherwise yours truly would have to go get it!). AND he scoped our sewer lateral at no extra cost! William installed an earthquake shut off valve and was prompt and clear in his communications. Along the way, he attempted to provide an opportunity for me to have an inspection done without his presence (that would have saved us appx $200), however, the inspection scheduling clerks and system made it clear that his personal involvement would be needed. We passed no problem. After seeing how clunky the inspection process is, I can't blame William for the fact that he had to take extra time to comply.
