Extremely expensive in comparison to other diners. This place is small, should be considered a "Dinette" similar to Pete's Luncheonette and George's Luncheonette in Patchogue except much more pricey. William Floyd Dinner recently changed their menu prices approx. 6 months ago, (drastic increase), like by $3 and $4 per dish. A quesadilla is $14.00 !!! For what 1 person will pay to eat here, just go down the road to Applebees where 2 can eat for $22 and get a full size appetizer. The most affordable thing to eat here is breakfast which starts at $12.00 for basic breakfast platter and coffee + tax and a convenience fee if paying with credit or debit card. In total $14.00. Comparing to George's Luncheonette where breakfast is $10.00 plus coffee is included. William Floyd Diner is overpriced and their portions are small for diner portions. They are pricier than large Greek style dinners, but give less amt. of food and nothing is bundled for a discount. Coffee never included with breakfast. Poor business management. They do not know the food industry enough to operate functionally. No wonder the place is empty like a ghost town. Billy I figure you can't screw up a hamburger so that's what I usually order here. At best, the food is average. Tonight I noticed the amount on the receipt was slightly higher than the amount on the check. They said it was a surcharge on a credit card. I used a Debit Card. I pointed out that they actually make a little money on debit cards and that they don't pay a fee like credit cards. I finally had them cancel the transaction and paid cash. Online I checked VISA & MASTERCARD. They are not permitted to charge a fee on Debit Cards. On AMERICAN EXPRESS, They cannot charge a fee on Debit or Credit cards. It's not the dollar amount, it's the principle! Also, New York State is one of ten states that do not permit this surcharge. read more

This place hit my spot after leaving Fire Island. Tables available immediately, friendly servers, fast service, and the food was just as I wanted - a big omelet with home fries, toast and coffee. Huge bonus points for putting the butter on the toast. For some reasons, diners that I go to in the NYC boroughs won't butter up the toast. Not only that, but the butter is always hard in those little packages and it rips up the toast. Come on oman. But William Floyd Diner, they do it just right. No complaints about this spot if you are looking for a quick diner meal. Want to get crazy? Thy have the most well-stocked bar I have ever seen in a diner. The best thing that happen in this place is the young lady that greeted you as soon as you come in. She smiles and sat us three. But when it comes to our waitress that serve us, she will only be attentive to my husband. My friend and I thank her after taking our order, didn't even say you're welcome but when it's my husband....she's the one thanking him. My husband ask for water for us three, she only give one. Came here for a quick brunch because it was nearby and I had a time limit to eat. Best decision! The only thing I would complain about is that when you walk in there is no "Welcome.", "How are you.", or anything like that. But the host seems nice nonetheless. She smiled and took us to a table quickly without a wait at all even though its a weekend. Once we got seated withing 1 minute hour waitress came. Very nice but she seemed new, not too attentive like others I've had here. Still she got everything we asked for and it was quick. I asked for 2 chicken pens all vodka but I swear they gave me the prosciutto one instead. That wasn't chicken. Yet I didn't complain and just ate it, it was still tastey. I'm not the type of customer too ask for to much or complain I usually am the type to keep quiet and just not go back if I had a bad experience. Food is very mediocre. Was always our last resort if we were hungry and didn't feel like traveling. Well no more! To add insult to injury they tried to charge a fee for using a DEBIT CARD! Didnt have any signs or notices to indicate! We happened to see it on the bill. MASTERCARD does not allow a fee for debit card purchase. When questioned they said the CREDIT CARD COMPANY does this and they have no control. NOT TRUE! THEY chose to do this! AT LEAST BE HONEST. I ordered dinner, to go, for the first time last night. I was craving a juicy steak, and nowhere else around had what I was looking for at a reasonable price. So, I decided to give WFD a chance, and was NOT disappointed! As a matter of fact, I was impressed! The steak I ordered was almost triple the size of what I was expecting! It was juicy, flavorful, done to perfection, and they even complied with my request to add alfredo sauce to the pasta that came with the meal. Loved it, and will definitely be coming back. Been going here for years. Other than the plus that it's right around the corner from where I live, they are pretty good overall. Place is usually clean and looks better since their renovations. Maybe had one or two bad meals in the dozens of times I have been here. Staff is friendly for the most part. What happened to this place? When first moving to the area, this diner was always crowded. Friday night, hubby and I were looking for a quick non fast food dinner. Arrived at 6 pm, and place is practically empty. 3 wait staff keeping busy refilling and cleaning. Was waited on quickly. Waiter was conscientious and polite, although he was not aware of menu items that were gluten free. (Husband has Celiac). He did however check with cook ( I assume) to see if item my husband ordered was GF. My husband ended up with scallops sautéed in buttery sauce with a side salad. I order chicken fingers. With a side of blue cheese dressing. Well as much as I wanted to like this place, I have to just give it an eh rating. Granted chicken fingers are nothing really, I had to ask for my blue cheese that wasn't brought to table. My hubby did enjoy his scallops but side salad was disappointing, just being a sm dish of lettuce. Dressing for salad was served in a packet. The employees were kind, and food came quickly. This place looked nice but that's about all its got. We ordered boneless honey bbq wings and mozzarella sticks. Took about 25 mins to get them. Never got plates or dipping sauce for the wings. Then we ordered bacon cheese burgers. How could they mess that up you ask? Well let's begin. First, they took forever. We asked for rare and medium rare. They came out well done and dry. They forgot the bacon and it was bland as hell. The service was slow but pleasant. The manager and the server didn't bother to check on us, even though he could clearly see I was annoyed and when I told them I was dissatisfied, she didn't offer to take anything off the bill. My family and I frequent this diner and absolutely love it! After multiple visits (at least 5 and probably more) I have nothing to complain about. The staff is very friendly and quick to serve. They spend a lot of time chatting with themselves, but it does not keep them from serving their customers. The menu is very standard fair for a diner, no major surprises or differences here, but that is OK because everything is done very well. I've had items ranging from eggs to sandwiches to dinners and it is all good. If I had 2 small complaints it would be that the quality of desserts is mediocre and the veggie selections for dinner is sometimes lack luster. For what is the same meal every visit Yesterday i questioned the same item that i questioned the previous week and it was $5 more... and when asked , the girl was clueless , unresponsive, and uncooperative to correct... "Let it go".... "move on' i told my wife I went to pay and was reminded of a "service charge" for credit card or debit card use??? At first I was going to leave a negative review, only because we kept ordering from Door Dash and my order was constantly missing something. However, when I brought it to the attention of the William Floyd Diner, mainly the waitresses, they were very kind and supportive. They accommodated me in any way they could. The last time I ordered I dealt with Tiffany and I called her in advance to let her know that I placed and order with Door Dash, which they suggested, and she had already made sure that my order was correct. I like the chicken salad platter and to go a step further Tiffany put the coleslaw in a different container so that the juice wouldn't leak on to the rest of the food. That was cool. I have to say that the waitresses and greeters have always been wonderful. They greet you with open arms and they are very attentive. So the positive out weights the negative, by far. I brought my granddaughter here for breakfast on a Saturday morning and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted as soon as we came through the door. They were packed so we did wait about 10 minutes before we were seated. I ordered the veggie egg white omelet with home fries which was delicious. My granddaughter ordered pancakes and loved them. The waitress was very attentive to our needs and the food came out fairly quick. The only issue I had was that the rest room was in much need of attention, which was due in part because of how busy they were. Highly recommend. read more

Had breakfast here. Walked in and was seated quickly. The waitress was at the table in less then a minute. The menu was clean and not sticky. The food arrived at the table in less then 10 minutes. The portion of food was plenty and there was always someone asking if you wanted a refill on your coffee not just the waitress who served us. We didn't have to ask or wait. The cost per person was under $8.00. The person that sat us always let the waitress know that he was sitting someone. He even asked us if we wanted more coffee. This last time out of a combination of desperation and fatigue, it was getting late and there is no where else to go in Shirley but Applebees or fast food, Italian/pizza, etc. We wanted something other. Surprise! It was actually good! They have renovated/redecorated and must have fired the chef. This last time I had a tuna wrap on whole wheat that was very good. I was just asked to leave by the owner of the William Floyd Dinner in Shirley. The diner is located in the green awning strip mall to the north of Home Depot. I was "thrown out" for sending part of my meal back twice, the second time for accusing them of doing nothing but chopping it up, so you can probably guess where this is going. I've seen comments on the internet that the cooks do what they want and that Jose the owner is too busy to care. Google it, there are many of them. I was asked to leave not because I was rude, mean or dismissive, but because, on occasion, I would send my food back to be prepared in a manor more to my liking. I'd also like to note that in all of the traveling I do, what I ask for is not considered anything special. The whole idea of eating out is getting a meal the way you like it that is not easily done at home. Apparently, at the William Floyd Diner, the whole idea of a meal is paying a premium for a product that sometimes would be questionable in a soup kitchen. If you don't have very high expectations and do not question authority, this might be the place for you. I've eaten breakfast there for years mainly because the waitress staff is top self. I am lucky enough to travel around for work so I can say the help is what you can expect at a four star restaurant. I've dined there despite the inconsistency of the preparation of my meals because of the waitress staff and because there is simply no other place locally. Kind of like the only single girl in town, For the most part breakfast comes out well but on occasion they need to go back. I can deal with it, so should the diner. The chef that creates the dinners on the other hand is very good and I don't think I've ever had a problem with one of them although I don't have dinner there very often and they are a little pricey. I would only recommend this place for breakfast. Went there for lunch and dinner and ordered a cheeseburger it was dry and the french fries tasted like oil. I don't think they change their oil in there deep fryers. And my boyfriend's food look like it just came out of a can. With lots of competition, this is definitely my favorite diner on Long Island. I come here a lot with my family and the staff is always so welcoming and polite. I usually come here for lunch and get a chicken wrap with fries which every time is delicious. Occasionally I'll get a burger, and whichever cooking preference you give them they will do. When I recently went, I got breakfast. I get pancakes and bacon which is phenomenal, but this time I was craving eggs. I am picky with how my eggs are cooked so I was nervous to try them. But the eggs were cooked absolutely perfect! I got toast, bacon, and crispy home fries with them. Delicious!! Not one single complaint. Atmosphere wise, I think this diner is adorable and welcoming. I live less than mile from there and have been going there for 10 years , it has been recently overhauled and has nice appearance . They have great breakfast and lunches and waitresses friendly and service is quick and complete to your order . I haven't had any good experience with dinners there. I ordered a teriyaki dish with chicken and mixed veggies that was so salty my blood pressure skyrocketed . I ate only half. And sent back , I believe it was purely soy sauce. I was surprised manager didn't even come over to answer my dissatisfaction . That's y I only gave 4 stars.
