William Poll is new to me. It's another historic company that I've passed in my walks over and over. Recently something in the window caught my eye so I checked out the reviews. I definitely decided I needed to return for a sandwich. Today I decided to walk down to this high end deli at 75th and Lexington. After walking around Central Park with Yelp Friends Robert C. and Janeen I was racking up walking miles and was really hungry. When I arrived the employees at William Poll weren't busy and a nice employee greeted me at the door. I took a lot of photos and told him I had never been here before so I need to know the drill. He pointed out the menu because I said I wanted a sandwich. I was thrilled to see Pumpernickel Bread as a choice. I decided on the Ham and Swiss Cheese and asked for Mayo. The same employee said he would make the sandwich and would I also like mustard. When I asked what kind he said Dijon, I decided it sounded delicious. And it sure was! My only problem is finding a place to eat. I decided to walk back to Fifth Avenue near the park and sit on a bench. The sandwich bread was so fresh and either I was hungry or it's a delicious sandwich. Both probably. It's $10.88 with tax. They take cash or credit cards. There's lots of great food items you can purchase for yourself or as gifts. It's a beautiful place. The chandelier is a striking centerpiece as you enter and leave. To sum it up, the employees are friendly and efficient. The food is fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is fancy and clean. I hate to, but I have to deduct a star for no seating. I won't walk over a mile from my apartment this winter to get a sandwich and sit outside in the cold to eat. I'm recommending you eat here or shop the other specialty food items they carry. It's definitely a one of a kind exquisite business.

William Poll is one of those unique places you only find in NYC. It is a fancy sandwich shop that has been here a while and does things right. I didn't know what to expect here but after reading the reviews I had to see the hype. I went with the poll special which is a couple different meats with cole slaw and russian dressing. The attention to detail when making the sandwich is refreshing to see. I also tried the famous chicken salad with bacon which was amazing. The contrast between the creaminess of the chicken salad and fattiness of the bacon was perfect. Now I get the complaints about the small sandwiches but they put them together perfectly. The ingredients are fresh. Its like the upscale fancy version of the sandwich I used to bring to school as a kid. They sell other stuff in here too like soup and some brownies. The prices are high for what you get but you pay for quality. Definitely check it out!

Their chicken and bacon sandwich is epic. I live in California now and one of the things I miss most about New York is William Poll.

We bought meatloaf there which was expensive and inedible. The ratatouille on the other hand was pretty good. We will not go back.

Divine tuna sandwich, old school style. Puts most tuna sandwich purveyors to shame. Prepared foods are excellent.

Delicious sandwich spot that has a lot more options including soups and pastries. A bit pricey but very tasty and worth a splurge.

This is in a ritzy part of town on 60th St between Madison Ave & Park Ave with Ferraris & Bentleys parked on the street, so you have to guess that the storefront rent must be astronomical. But oh, these gastronomical sandwiches are off the charts and can justify the price. Once you decipher the names of the sandwiches on the menu and see what's between the bread, you will want to try all of them. I settled on 2 finalists, but decided get both anyway. All sandwiches are made fresh with some of the best looking meats & ingredients I've ever seen! And what's better is that they bake all the focaccia for the sandwiches fresh and in-house. You see the bread oven right behind the register. I wonder if I could buy a slab of that bread? The L'Inferno brought images of Danté Alighieri's version of the Underworld to mind, but was a spicy hot masterpiece of sandwich art. The combination of thinly sliced roasted porchetta, nduja, spicy grilled eggplant & arugula was fantastic! The fresh baked focaccia took it even further. But I did learn something new today besides Italian pronunciation, which was that nduja (silent n) is a spicy sausage from Calabrese that's spreadable like butter. I gotta get me some of that stuff! The La Paradiso sounds like the third installment of Danté's Divine Comedy trilogy, but is a very mild, but tasty sandwich with mortadella, stracciatella & crushed pistachios in pistachio cream. The pistachio cream is a stroke of culinary genius and gives the sandwich an amazingly smooth texture & taste. The only part of the Divine Comedy missing from their menu is La Purgatorio and I do not want to find out what would go into that sandwich!

But it turned out to be a fantastic meal and fully satisfied my endless craving for well-made soup dumplings. The scallion pancakes were excellent, too, crispy without being greasy and packed with scallions. I had seen a lot of reviews praising the General Tso's chicken, but I've honestly avoided the Chinese-American dish for years. Too often it's overly sweet with a heavy batter. Still, after seeing plate after plate come out to nearby tables, I decided to give it a try. What a surprise. It was a huge portion of fresh white meat chicken with a light coating and a perfectly balanced sauce, served piping hot. We couldn't finish it (knowing we had a big dinner later), but I kept going back for "just one more piece" more times than I'd like to admit. Reservations aren't accepted for parties of two, but in the late afternoon it wasn't busy at all, we walked right in with no wait. Would absolutely come back.

I have three big guys with me and sometimes quick lunches need to be more filling than fast food options, so we chose Alidoro's under Rockefeller Plaza. We could walk to it form the hotel and it was in the middle off all we wanted to show the boys on their first day (first time) in the city. We all chose different sandwiches and they were ready pretty fast. Since the shop itself is not huge, we landed a small space at the window bar with two stools and some standing room. After being in a car and on a flight and in another car all morning, we weren't mad about the standing part. We were all able to share and sample each sandwich, and honestly, we were not disappointed. We were all full and happy when we weren't finished, so what more could we want for a relatively quick NYC meal? Being under the plaza, the restrooms were outside the shop but very close by so we were able to wash hands and such before journeying out into the wild. I would definitely stop back by again on another trip! The guys and I all gave Alidoro's two thumbs up - so 8 thumbs total, if you're counting.
