Three months ago I had my car delivered to these guys. After two months I was really surprised they…read morenever called me. I gave them a call and they said they had a wrong number. They told me the number they were calling must have been incorrect and said they left messages, voicemails, etc which wasn't possible because the number they claimed to be calling was a disconnected number, proving they were lying straight to my face about leaving messages. After all this was resolved they hit me with a $3500 quote. I get a call that the work has been completed and get a ride over to their shop (over an hour away) the car wouldn't start and couldn't even be jumped. I leave the car and get another ride back home. They call me a few days later and say they fixed the issue. I go all the way back out there again to pick the car up. After saying they were going to fix the issue on them because it was their mistake, they charged me for the labor. On my way back with the car it stalled out while going 50mph 4 times and was struggling to start back up. The next day the car didn't even start at all. In my attempt to bring the car back to them today it broke down and wouldn't start at all. Bringing it somewhere else seems like the best idea. I will not be coming back and will be letting others know not to go to them. On top of everything they put their oily hands on the cloth of my door card. 100% DO NOT RECOMMEND.

The cost was reasonable and was what I expected (having done this repair myself on other cars). He was conscientious and professional, and his communication was outstanding. He provided regular updates each step of the process so I was never wondering what was happening. He has recently taken over this business so the older reviews are not relevant. The car starts shuddering and doesn't want to leave second gear. The engine may or may not turn over. The nearest service station is 10 miles away, down a winding road with narrow shoulders and a speed limit of 25 mph, without the rain pouring down. Baby decides now is also a great time to start crying and get a cold. Welcome to my experience this past September weekend. What should have been a restful communion with the outdoors in Northern Michigan turned into a harrowing, stressful time. After AAA towed my car to dry out at the hotel, and I left my husband to comfort the baby, I took my limping vehicle into town in search of anyone who might diagnose the OED 2 code. I didn't have the handheld reader with me and I direly needed to know whether my car's check engine light was the result of something minor -- say, a misfiring piston -- or something serious to justify staying another night in town. I came upon M&M Services after driving slowly to get an oil change elsewhere. Their Open sign glowed like a beacon. I pulled in to find a young man in the office, one bay occupied with the garage door down, and their hours boldly displaying they were open for another hour yet. Prayers for resolution answered? I explained my situation and asked if he could hook my car up to a OED reader. Advanced Auto Parts, Napa, Carquest, and other car parts stores with complementary reader services all shut an hour and a half before. There wasn't a dealership in Petoskey or Harbour Springs to help, and I couldn't trust taking the car an hour away into Traverse City. M&M had every ability to help ease my mind. "Are you from around here?" asked the kid. "No, I'm on vacation. We drove up. I am in a tight situation," I said. I should have shut my trap and nodded. "Can't help you." What?! You're open. You have a mechanic. I am not asking for anything untoward, I could hook the cable up to the OED2 port myself for all it mattered. He gave me the most uncaring look and went back to his desk, staring off into space. You are an auto shop. You are open. There are no other customers and I showed up an hour before the stated closing time. No one was working on a vehicle. It was a very simple request I was willing to pay for, if only to get a better idea of the diagnostic code. It turned out to be Cylinder 1 misfiring due to water getting into it, a simple fix by removing the spark plug. I found that out at O'Reilly's in Detroit -- something that took literally about 8 seconds to read. The non-existent customer service during a small crisis was disgusting.

They checked our transmission and found no problem, just pushed some fluid out of the vent. No damage done. No charge and we are back on the road. These guys are phenomenal. I've been taking my $40k Ford SuperDuty to Dan Fein since 2004. He's a great guy--honest and…read moreknowledgeable. I've since moved out of town and so I am no longer a regular patron, but thought I'd log a 'historical' review since no reviews exist. Note: I used to take my truck to the local Ford dealership that sold me the truck--Krug Rivertown Ford--but their Sales, Service, Management, Bodyshop personnel were all rude, incompetent, unknowledgeble, arrogant, and overpriced. They were purchased by Fernelius recently, so I hope improvements are in store for them. Fein's Auto Repair is great at diagnosis and explaining problems. They work diligently and deliver as promised, always. Examples of work they've done for me: HVAC vacuum; complete front end; u-joints; 4WD lockable hubs (WARN brand); starter motor; glowplug relay solenoid (Note: the old local Ford 'stealership' recommended replacing the glowplugs themselves @ almost $2k, including diagnostic--Fein's solution cost me about $50 and took 15 minutes!); Zerk fittings for all my grease points; et cetera. The only small drawbacks are that (1) his shop and parking lot are very small, so he his a busy man and you may have to wait a few days to get work done. This is also a good thing, b/c his capital investment is smaller than a big, fat, rigid dealership and he can keep his costs down. Also, (2) he deals almost exclusively with the local CarQuest to manage his parts supply, though I'm sure they give him a good discount. I wonder, however, if my WARN lockable front hubs were his only choice to recommend. (After a few years most of the chrome has corroded and they are difficult to turn, despite keeping them clean. Was this brand the the best option?) I've traveled A LOT in my middle-aged lifetime. Very rarely have I come across a repair shop at which I felt so good about spending money. His wife also works there in reception, and his son is often there too. They are a good family, and that character and integrity shine through to their business. In a nutshell: I trust Dan Fein, and respect his knowledge and forthrightness. If I ever move back to Cheboygan, he's the only person I'll see when it comes to my vehicles.
