I submitted an online request for a quote and the next day Mike emailed me requesting pictures of what our project wanted to include. Originally we just wanted to pull out our front yard plants and redo just the front but there is a $5000 project minimum. After deciding to redo our turf and also include our backyard, Mike came out the next week for a free in person consultation and got me a detailed quote within 2 days. The turnaround time for everything was just amazing, I've never seen anything like it. Our lot is about 3615 sq ft to give a reference point. Our project included: all the labor to demolish/uproot all of our plants including a very large 20 year old tree in the backyard + all the roots (completed in 2-3 days), redid our front and backyard turf (completed in 2 days by Backyard Golf Company), added a veneer stone and cap on our retaining wall (1 week) and replanted all our plants/installed a drip sprinkler system/installed lighting front and backyard (1 week). We have an HOA and Mike had a complete detailed plan and diagram ready for us within 3-5 days. Once HOA got back to us, the project was started within a week and finished in the estimated time frame. Workers came promptly at 8 AM and they were actively working all day not just sitting around. Very respectful, even blowing all the dust at the end of the day to keep the area clean, no garbage left anywhere. The entire project was $30,000 and there weren't any surprise or unexpected costs. My yard was overgrown and a mess. The sod from 2000 was done and full of weeds. The planting areas were in terrible shape. Fern and I talked and together we put together an idea of a combination of sod and DG. I mentioned to him that I always ask for more than discussed and to make sure he added the additional expense. They showed up on time every day at 6:30am and worked nonstop until dusk. They removed two big truck loads of dirt, old sod, weeds, roots and old plants by loading the truck using wheelbarrows. They put in new drip irrigation, new sprinkler lines and valves and repaired my outdoor electrical outlets. They built three paver borders and used cement to make a paver border fence I built by stacking blocks permanent. He cleaned out a raised planter not in the quote, fixed the drip lines and mulched and used my old fountain to build a bird feeder space in the planter. The quote was very fair and the addition price for the added work was very fair also. I will definitely be using him again for my next project. He also installed new ceramic tiles with my address on the front of the house and cleaned out part of my gutters and fixed the leaks to keep them from dripping on the DG. But Mike's business reviews, starting some 6 years earlier, were impressive. Almost all positive, those reviews convinced me to not be discouraged. I let him know I would gladly wait. Besides, I had already met with another "highly rated" Yelp contractor and was feeling rather discouraged. That guy had given me an extremely high bid. His subsequent communications and extreme bartering impressed me to be odd, bordering on unethical and untrustworthy. I knew I had to keep looking. In spite of his schedule, Mike graciously consented to come out see what was going on with my aging drip system the next week. Two weeks later, after I thought he had forgotten me, I received an unsolicited text from Mike with a genuine apology. We met the very next day. It went well. For a full hour, we discussed all my drip system problems. He made many recommendations, but his ideas were realistic and practical. He assured me that, instead of re-doing the entire system, he could take the existing drip lines and repair, replace, and improve, as needed. This meant a significant savings to me, and most importantly, much happier plants. His price quote was far more affordable. Meanwhile, while taking a look around, he noticed that my controller (timer) was misprogrammed. He asked my permission to reset everything so it would be running more efficiently, then took the time to explain everything he did. (I was ecstatic, me being the boob who had naively messed it up in the first place.) He shared some valuable tips on plant care as well. Little things like this convinced me I would be in good hands. December 2025. It was a wait, for sure, but we finally found a day to proceed on this 1-day project. He sent his irrigation specialist, Lazaro, out to my house and Lazaro was a god-send. Very reliable. Very ethical. Very hard-working and agreeable. What a great guy to have on your team. Lazaro completed everything in one day. I decided to add to the scope of work, adding a new controller unit at the same time. Lazaro ran out, bought the piece, installed it, and gave me hands-on training before leaving. And what do you know? The final bill still came to about one 3rd of the other guy's final quote. Could not be happier. An excellent experience in every sense of the word.
