"The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form…read moreof poison." Ann Wigmore 'The Conscious Cook' is a wonderful establishment where they offer live cooking classes that not only educates you about eating healthy, but also introduces you to a whole new world of foods. I attended a Vegan meetup here and was introduced to a live demo of 'Plant Based Nutrition for Cancer Prevention.' The owner, Sadie King and vegan chef and Health Coach, Landry Fuller prepared easy, flavorful dishes that were full of vitamins and antioxidants to keep your immune system strong and your body healthy. This was a great event to attend for those who want to try and change their diet and improve their health. We learned how cancer can be prevented by making smarter food choices including nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, fiber, herbs and spices. 'The Conscious Cook' also offers an array of classes from all types of ethnic cuisine to themed dessert classes. It's also a fun way to bring a group of friends to and participate in. You don't even have to be a vegan and/or vegetarian to enjoy these dishes. Just have an open mind. :) Check out their website for healthy plant-based cooking classes, health and wellness coaching for individual clients and groups who are seeking healthier eating and more balanced lifestyles, monthly programs as well as talks, workshops and cooking classes. They even sell products such as the Saladmaster, which has been shown to be the best method for cooking. Here's more information: http://conscious-cook.com/saladmaster/ You are what you eat. I am a true believer of that. If you want to live a long and healthy life, having a healthy diet is the first step. In my opinion, plant based nutrition has been the most impactful and beneficial lifestyle for me. The food is amazingly delicious and that in turn affects my mood and overall well-being. I have never felt more energetic, youthful, and vibrant. 'The Conscious Cook' gets my thumbs up ! It's a business that I support and know people can learn and benefit from. They are really passionate about what they do and it shows in their food. So grab a group of friends or fly solo and attend a class. Get VEGUCATED peeps ! :)

Chris is highly knowledgable and organized. He is also well connected in the community so you get access to wineries and owners that you would otherwise not have. He is generous with his expertise and provides an impressive educational experience. The BTK experience is great for anyone...a first time visitor or someone who knows wine and the valley because Chris personalizes the experience. We took the all-day tour that included lunch for $179 and it was worth every cent. We took ourselves on an excursion the next day and definitely felt Chris's absence as we got lost several times and were limited in what we could do and what we could learn from the experience. I look forward to booking our next trip.

His motto was always "Give me a couple of wine barrels, a wooden plank over them, two old Italian guys and a couple of yeller dogs, and that is my idea of a tasting room". Well, the Valle de Guadalupe has some spots that are near as up scale as current Napa and Sonoma. But WAY off the beaten path and with the same kind of charm and passion that wine making seemed to have in the pioneering days of mid-century Northern California. Having been on lots of wine tours and tastings, it isn't often I find I learn a lot about wine making and its history. Chris, part owner of BTK, was our tour-guide and did a marvelous job of talking about the history of the valley, growing conditions, wine makers, local history that influenced wine making technology, etc. I found I learned a lot; in part because Chis is a very engaging story teller. The best part was the wine and the wine makers. We were VERY pleasantly surprised at the quality of the wines we tasted. Eleven wines total at two incredible wine making facilities, and every one a winner! Wish we could have taken home a lot more than we did. We had the good fortune of meeting the owners of Vena Cava, who clearly enjoy people and love their craft and the local industry they are building. The 2012 Reserve is easily one of the best wines I've ever had. And the winery is...well...unique, with a great story. Chris and Jen, thank you for a wonderful day. We are already thinking about how we work BTK into future vacations. Clearly you guys enjoy what you do and have a great talent for your work.

From the first phone call, Chef Ty was a pleasure to speak and work with. We spoke several times before the event and he went above and beyond to satisfy all of our event needs. He was on time, the food was served hot and delicious, and he left our kitchen as clean as he found it. THE FOOD - We had four passed around small bites during cocktail hour. It was all absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend the apple and blue-cheese turnovers! I think about them often. The Lamb lollipop was crazy good. The shrimp appetizer was great as well as the mushroom one. Dinner courses were presented so elegantly and tasted as good as they looked. We began with a fabulous pumpkin soup. It was honestly the best pumpkin soup I've ever had. That was followed by a tasty root vegetable salad. We then had Filet Minon over risotto with a demi glaze sauce over it. Wow! It was truly spectacular. I HIGHLY recommend Chef Ty for any special intimate dining experience you are thinking about. Our party was of twenty three people. He made it a wonderful and memorable evening for us. Thank you, Chef!‍ amazing experience!

The price quoted for this was a somewhat steep $375. To my wife's shock and amazement, this ballooned to $494 once our credit card was charged; not only tax, but 18% gratuity on the original excessive amount, was added. Within a few days we decided this was a bad idea overall, and phoned to cancel. After a few confusing telephone and email exchanges, my wife received email notification that they would retain 25% (approximately $125) as a cancellation fee! To date, we still have not come to a satisfactory resolution regarding our refund. Altogether it has been a very frustrating and time-consuming experience. Update: our credit card company issued us a credit for the full amount, and took matters into their own hands.

I was pretty excited because my friend told me that we were going to learn how to cook and have dinner at the Kitchen Art Studio. We learned how to make chicken empanaditas and seared scallops piccata with pasta, and just torch the sugar on the creme brulee since the creme brulee was already premade. We had some wine that we brought and they provided us with strawberry lemonade to drink. It was a fun experience however it is a bit pricey. For a large group we paid about ~$60-80 a person granted it was for a cooking lesson along with gratuity. There were about 15-20 of us and they could not split the check which ended up being a huge hassle since the bill was over a thousand and we had to put it on one card. I don't know whether or not I'd come back again since I think this place is intended for large parties but overall it was a good experience and the instructor was very friendly and informative.
