It's pretty obvious that the owners of this theater haven't done a quality check in years. As others have noted there are major problems with the sound in addition to occasional issues with the picture being too dark. Someone else mentioned the awful sound in theater 3 which was where I sat through Marty Supreme and felt like I was straining to hear what was going on. Someone should buy this place and give it a proper upgrade since these people don't care to. read more

Came to Williamsburg Cinemas for an impromptu movie while finding myself in the area last weekend. Saw the new Ryan Gosling movie, The Fall Guy. Not only did this theater have late showings past 9pm, but the whole place was super clean! The seats were super comfy and also founded down at the arms for more space.. love that! Elite Tip: try to reserve the second row seats in the middle section. Best seats in the house in my opinion! read more

We ate across the street at an italian spot Amar and i split a pasta for 20 bucks. Then went to the theater and saw Highest to Lowest. Most of our viewing party were uncomfortable in the seats and Jack commented that there is a staircase that leads down to nothing. Spike Lee did deliver a lot of laughs in this movie, although it probably wasn't on purpose. The dialogue was incredibly strange, and score underneath many of the scenes was wacky when it was supposed to be serious. The wardrobe was terrible, the minecraft suit was my favorite least favorite look. Every time i wanted this movie to end, it did not. We tried to leave early but the people around us got annoyed at us. There was a woman with a bike helmet that got up throughout the entire movie and left and came back in. Geeked vs. Lockdd in. I live in Williamsburg but always go to see movie in Queens because the seat is extra-large but the ticket is more expensive and I'm tired of driving so long with the traffic, so I decide to just enjoy the movie in my neiborhood. Price is good but seat is regular size, legs room are good. Auditorium 1 is pretty big and good steep. I bought tickets online so it is very convenient for me when I get into the theater, they have ticket vending machine, I just screen barcode then tickets print out and I don't have to go on the line. Overall, it was ok experience at Williamsburg Cinemas with good price ticket. read more

Worst theater. DO NOT GO! If you choose to go here make sure you bring a parka. It is freezing. Literally inhumane. Worse part we complained about it 5 different times. Sadly to say, I did not know that this theater existed because my son and I normally frequent the same theaters whenever we go out to the movies. However, I'm glad that I know about it now because I actually like it. It's not a large theater which is definitely cool when you want to get away from the large crowds. The crowd here was much more civilized, just the way that I like it. The manager was pretty friendly and helpful. The concession stands were well stocked and clean. The cashiers were really nice. The seating in the theater was plush and pretty comfy. I think that I've found a new movie theater to go when I want to avoid the large crowds. read more

Williamsburg Cinemas is my local theater but unfortunately I won't be coming back. I saw Wicked and Nosferatu in the same theater, Theatre 3, and it was way too quiet. I couldn't hear some of the dialogue in both movies and I don't have hearing issues (I'm 35). I went to Nosferatu with friends, and they all agreed it was too low -- one even said he chose not to eat his popcorn because he couldn't hear the movie over it. Very poor experience -- I'll have to go to a different theater in the future sadly. read more

Went to see Zone of Interest, walked out because the sound was so low I could hear the crinkling popcorn bags from the back row. I think they keep the levels low cause there's no sound insulation between the rooms. Definitely skip this theater. i'm a professional sound mixer, take my word for it. read more

A time warp cinema in Brooklyn. Not bad for nostalgia purposes but other than they stick to what people basically want in a movie theater: Buttery popcorn and huge soda cups. Definitely recommend their coffee for those 3 hour and better movies. read more

Movies generally worked the same way during the first three decades of my film-watching career. I didn't know it was a problem that needed fixing. Newer trends like sightline-killing tray tables, talking during the show and assigned seating that made it tougher the avoid the talkers made the experience less pleasant. With most of the good venues shuttered or converted, I like finding one of the few older, no-nonsense joints. You can sort of understand the business model for the Herricks in New Hyde Park, where there's just enough of an inner-ring suburb audience that doesn't need Regal 4DX Mega-Coke Marvel Points. But the existence of something as normcore as Williamsburg Cinemas is a miracle. Statistically speaking, it should have been leveled for condos two years. Nitehawk belongs here, and I'm not interesting in mixing bacon cheeseburgers and IPAs mix with the misery of "Manchester-by-the-Sea." Williamsburg Cinemas, though, is made for a different time and place. Enjoy while it lasts. read more

What makes Williamsburg cinema acceptable is the fact that it is in Williamsburg. That's it. The movie theater itself is old and dated as far as the decor and technology. But because of the location and price, they receive alot of customers. I came here to see The Good Boys on a Friday night and the theater was completely packed. The concession stand was typical like at all theaters. They do check your bag, so you are unable to sneak in outside food or drinks. (Keep that as a side note ladies) During the movie the sound had some issues and the lights came on before the movie ended. Which was annoying. Not the best place to see a movie. read more

Movie theater in willyb. Super easy to grab dinner and a movie. Need to show you're vaccinated. My only question I had before I got here - are there reclining seats?? Well the answer is no, there are no reclining seats. I was a bit disappointed since I got used to reclining seats in movie theaters. But the seats were actually pretty comfy. It is a bit annoying when someone walks in the row behind you while you are seated because they'll bump up against you a bit. This place is cozy. This is a clean break from the huge, hustle, and bustle of the local big theaters. When I arrived there were no lines, just three kiosk and friendly staff. I moved quickly to my seat in a cozy and clean movies theater with comfortable cushioned seats that recline and hold your cups. $9.00 tickets on Tuesday (in upscale, over priced Williamsburg...imagine that). Does anybody remember Commodore Cinemas? I doubt many of you do because none of you were around here. That was Williamsburg's crappy, pissy, rat infested cinema. Williamsburg Cinema is posh and beautiful in comparison to the Commodore. It is small! Like 90% of the businesses in Williamsburg. Nothing new there size wise. It's affordable, and all the times I have frequented its clean. Yes, they should limit the number of people on a new screening. Like any other theater, it gets packed. You, people, know how small it is, wait a day, or two or else suck it up. The prices are reasonable for the area, so are the snacks at the concession stand. Snacks, not food sold at the concession stand. Eat a meal before you catch a flick or eat after. Be thankful for this theater and take it as is or make an executive decision and hop your ass on the train and go to the city. read more

Update: I got stuck here again last night seeing M3GAN with my friends because it was the only showing with a time and location that worked for all of us. The screen brightness was flickering throughout the whole entire movie. I kept hoping it would even out, but it never did. This place sucks so bad but by the time your movie has started you don't want to miss any of the film you paid $15 to see by getting up to complain. Please let this place get bought out by someone else, I'm begging you! read more

There's beer and wine now, that's good. But horribly run. No one checks tickets, so out showing had lots of people coming in and out randomly who clearly did not have tickets. A bunch of kids were in ours and we're disruptive (e.g. screaming obscenities, watching videos on their phones with volume on full blast) but not a staff member in site. Horrible. read more

This is a nice new theater, and almost too out of place with its modern, new, clean feel for this neighborhood in Brooklyn. I get where some of the low reviews are coming from, mostly from people that can't deal with the 99% population of hipsters that make up the clientele here. But I'm used to homogeneous crowds of annoying populations at movie theaters, from the annoying grouchy elderly couples on the Upper West Side, to the loud, obnoxious kids screaming at the screens at 34th Street and Midtown, so it was almost refreshing for a change to be immersed in a room with a quieter bunch and where I was the only one without suspenders and a handle-bar mustache. As for the theater itself, as mentioned above, everything is still nice and clean and new and the stadium seats are pretty comfortable. The popcorn was delicious, and slightly cheaper than prices at most chains ($10 for a large popcorn and large soda combo), but it was a little upsetting that there are no refills, as a refill would've gone a long way in helping me stay awake during the terrible movie I was watching (Mama). If I'm ever in the mood for a hipster day and I'm anywhere near the vicinity of Wiliamsburg, I would definitely come back here. read more

If you're looking to see a movie in a theater, this place might do but beware. There's a few things I want to warn you about. 1) If the showtime says 8pm and the movie is 2hrs long, you might expect to get out at 10pm BUT you won't if you go here. That's because they wait til 8pm to play like 7 ads for everything from car brands to CocaCola. They basically force you to watch like 10minutes of ads. 2) I went to go see a non-sexual PG13-rated movie but somehow the seat I was about to sit in looked like someone nutted on it. I would have taken a picture but I was too busy throwing up in my mouth. Was it discarded gum that was melted somehow or was it true nutt? I don't know but I didn't want to find out. (The people sitting 2 seats away said it was definitely some nutt juice though) 3) My soda was flat. I asked the people at the mangled concession stand where young Gen Z vapers were checking their Instagram between pouring drinks and hucking popcorn into buckets and they said that soda is supposed to be flat and syruppy. 4) Two teens in front of me were rubbing each other off during the movie and necking very hardcore. I don't know if people think this is a place to scrub off but that might explain the nutt on the first seat I almost sat in. What is this, the subway?? I told them to keep they hand to they self but they told me they would "work me outside if I didn't STFU" Kids are rude these days and don't take responsibility for their actions. The people next to me didn't support me because they were making an Instagram story of it, which I think is probably illegal? 5) Some of the theaters are mad small and the sound is like when you go to a broke homies house and they have a bogus "surround sound system" that claps bass wild hard but the treble is mad low or vice versa. Also, the only thing IMAX about this place is the filth in the drink cups where it look like someone threw up thinking the cup holder was solid but it has holes in it, probably to allow vomit to seep down on the floor. 6) Pretty much the entire theater was Juuling hard so I kept seeing mad clouds drift up into the light from the projector. As much as I hated it, sometimes it was cool if there was loud action and something got blowed up in the movie. Like it was 4D or something but they need to keep people from going to hog wild with the Juuls. 7) The urinal in the bathroom was filled with a garden of pubes and chewing gum. I know it's not the staff's fault that people spit gum in there and rip their pubes out and sprinkle them in there but unless 100 people did it in the past few hours then it's probably a sign that someone was just riding around on one of those foot scooters and vaping instead of cleaning the bathroom, which is not cool. Not a huge fan of movie theaters in New York, but Williamsburg Cinemas is so reliably pleasant and it's not a massive chain (support your local businesses, people!) I've been going here since I moved to Brooklyn about 2 years ago and now I live around corner, which is dangerous for my bank account. Tickets are reasonably priced ($11/$12) compared to AMCs and Regals in Manhattan, as well as snacks for your pleasure. You can buy your tickets online and pick them up at electronic booths when you arrive - I usually do that and it's a seamless experience, just bring the card you used or the confirmation #. The theaters aren't that large, which is probably the only downside, but honestly, it's probably for the best. They have a couple on the main floor and on the second floor. My pet peeve is talking during the entire movie and this hasn't been a problem here in my experience. Floors are usually clean and the chairs are pretty fluffed for a comfy seat, nor are they torn and stained. Obviously it can get nuts on weekends for opening weekends, but that happens everywhere. If you get matinee or see a movie a couple weeks after it premieres, you won't have a problem. I just saw Kingsman over the weekend (great BTW) with a friend and didn't have anyone sitting next to us. I'd choose this place over Regal or AMC any day and you should too. read more

This is the dirtiest cinema I have ever been in NYC. Came tonight to watch The Post The room smelled like sweat, there were popcorns left in any corners. Clearly the room was not cleaned after the previous movie. On top of that in this cinema they still have the velvet chairs. Those chairs look disgusting!! Stains everywhere, discolored, incrusted with left over spills! so dirty and filthy I don't even know how to describe it. This cinema needs to be redone. It is a matter of health and general clean. And it's in Williamsburg! Come on!! It's a popping area, how the hell is possible there still a cinema like this?? I know tickets are a bit cheaper than other cinemas ( 12$ for adults) but still that doesn't mean the place gotta be left with no care. Unfortunately it's the only cinema in the area. read more

How I wish this place would go down like some of the other customer unfriendly independent movie theaters. I know I'm a horrible person for saying this but there is no system in place here. They can't scan advance tickets bought from Fandango, you need to physically wait in line for paper pick up even if you bought tix in advance. The concession stand is extremely slow and the line for the movie sometimes goes all the way up to the second floor. There is no numbered seating, staff is extremely rude and smell like they are better off smoking pot instead of working here, there is no air in the theater because the AC is not running. And the theater is extremely dirty. No cleaning staff enters between showings. Popcorn and trash everywhere. If you end up in the very last row know that it's a tighter space, like flying Spirit airline on the very back of the plane. Oh the sound also doesn't reach the back! None of these issues are hard to fix yet the management doesn't address any. It shows negligence on their part and I wish for their demise. read more

My girlfriend warned me this place had bad reviews but I was skeptical. How hard is it to mess up a movie theater? Their prices are reasonable, but you get what you pay for. We saw a 1 pm movie, which is the first of the day. At 12:30 they hadn't yet opened and some of the employees were still showing up to work. It's clear they didn't open the theater early enough and weren't prepared for the first showings. The ICEE machine was out (they probably didn't start it early) which was disappointing given how hot it is out. They were also using the popcorn from the night before (i can tell because it was stale), again probably because they didn't cook the fresh batch yet. I understand the movies haven't been operational for some months, but they're not splitting the atom here. Running a movie theater isn't difficult. The seats are nice, but for the extra $3 a ticket I'll stick with AMC. read more

Please do not be scammed , fraudulent ticket sales from their MACHINES . They charged us (my friend and I ) for two ROW A tickets in theater 2 , to see the the Barbie movie . To our devastation and shock after getting dressed up to see it (even after purchasing snacks for the movies and drinks ) apparently our row was REMOVED? We had shown our tickets to someone before entering the theater , who wasn't doing his job clearly he didn't even say anything about row A in theater two not existing . We had gotten comfortable and stayed in the theater for quite sometime too . In addition , everyone was bouncing around lost and confused . When I went to purchase the tickets before the movie from the theater , the whole row A was sold out ......everyone was in the wrong seats but were not asked to leave . Lastly , there were so MANY KIDS in the theater . This is not a kid appropriate movie , I know because I teach those students at the charter school up the block they're in second grade. From the lack of system maintenance (charging people for a row in your theater that doesn't exist) , utterly confused teenage staff members, who were not helpful in explaining the scam they're pulling and poor quality snacks , just save your money and don't come here . I saw baby driver there . I don't really like the energy of the staff but the facilities are clean and cool. They are very strict about their no outside good policy .I seriously just had a doughnut I planned to eat at home in my purse and dude acted like I had a full meal. So I casually ate the doughnut in his face then went in . It probably was quite sexy for him Oh. They have affordable prices but no waiting area if one arrives early. I'm shocked it took me so long to discover this theater. This is why it's good to have friends obsessed with everything in Brooklyn. You learn new things. I'm a bit upset that you have to buy your tickets at a kiosk. What if I only have cash or want to make a bad joke with the person behind the counter?? But no, now I can't do any of that because technology exists. I'm disappointed. Fix this. I demand to make a person roll their eyes at my bad attempt at humor. I hear tickets on Tuesday and Thursday are $9 ALL DAY LONG. WHERE DO YOU HEAR THAT IN NYC????? EVER? That is exciting. Here I got friends dishing out over $20 to watch movies in Manhattan. No you put that money towards something more reasonable like food. My one issue would be that the seats are too close to one another. The rows are so close that the person in front of you is blocking your view of the screen. So what do you do to fix that problem? You sit abnormally close to the edge of your seat to avoid the person's head in front of you. Or I guess find a better seat by coming early. I liked the theater overall. A great little theater! I haven't seen a movie in theaters in over two years, and this one really had the traditional cinema feel which was cute! It was easy to find and even easier to immediately make our way to grab a bag of popcorn literally the minute we stepped in. I bought our tickets online and they had little kiosks where you could scan a barcode they text you. Our tickets popped out immediately and we made our way in. We came for a 9pm show on a Wednesday, so needless to say, it was quite empty. The theater is much smaller than the large amc theaters I've always gone to, but that made for a cool experience. There wasn't an endless showing of previews and our movie started quite soon. The chairs were comfy, the crowd was mature, and the popcorn was fantastic. It was a super great movie-going experience! I don't live in Williamsburg so it may be tough to make it out here specifically for movies, but I definitely want to go back! read more

Absolutely terrible service! Ordered coffee at the counter and were asked to wait for a new pot, which is completely reasonable since it was 10pm. After 20 minutes we were greeted with a "what are you doing back up here" attitude and had to inform them that they in fact asked us to wait on the side for the coffee to brew. We were then told that we must go outside and join the line which we quickly found out was completely inside the theater and even the staff member checking tickets was had already gone in. And this is when it all fell apart. Half way through Gone Girl, the movie started jumping back and forth to various scenes from the beginning to the end - spoiling the entire movie. At one point about 3/4 of the viewers were gathered in the lobby only to be yelled at from the one employee that could be found. We were offered a voucher to leave and come back at another time or go back in and watch the rest of the movie. It's a long movie so we decided to finish it out and ended up leaving the theatre around 2am. There was no apology, there was no voucher for another film, only stares from the same one employee as we walked out in disappointment. I emailed the theater a few days later and was not surprised when I received no response from the management as well. I could look past the rude service entering the theater, but following this series of events I'm not even sure they even understand the basic concept of playing a film. Their lack of organization and customer service is absolutely appalling. Needless to say I don't think I will be going to this cinema ever again. read more
