So disappointed, just ok food, some was not ok. The chicken livers used to be moist and delicious, now they are dry and chewy. The yummy cinnamon bread is hard and stale. My husband and I went here for dinner tonight. The food was pretty decent, the prices were good, it was very clean, and the water wheel room was a really unique atmosphere! We enjoyed the mashed potatoes, and the roast was very tender and delicious. The house dressing was also very good! The macaroni and cheese was a bit bland and chewy though. The hostess was friendly, however our waitress, J.V., was very rude and ignored us a few times when we spoke to her. Aside from her, we had a pretty good experience. read more

My boyfriend and I ate dinner here for the first time tonight. We both had the smorgasbord. The food was 99% fantastic, and the service was terrific. Would we eat there again? Most definitely yes. I would have given 5 stars but the potatoes au gratin were soggy. That is my sole complaint. The prime rib was excellent, and oh my god, the cream of onion soup was divine. I have eaten at this location the last 30 odd years. Notice I say location because I have eaten here under the oldest owners, older owners and now the current. Thus, I fancy myself somewhat of an authority on the question of the food and service here at the now location. The staff has changed some, yet some of the most pleasant smililing faces are still the same such as Dave in the bar. Dave always is friendly as well as an excellent bartender. I do not know the names of the kitchen staff but presume many are long timers since many of the menu items are unchanged from the last 30+ years such as the Chicken Livers w/green onions.....need I say more! I gave this place 2 stars only because the waitress was excellent and drinks from bar were great! My husband ordered a rib eye steak medium rare, what he got was a strip steak that looked like it was microwaved. Even our waitress commented on it and took it back to the kitchen, only returning to tell us the cook said it was a rib eye. Friends setting at another table close by got their rib eyes after us and they looked like real rib eyes, even the waitress commented on that too! My husband said his steak was flavorless and tough! I ordered the scrod dinner expecting it to be similar to the scrod I always loved when this place was Welivers. Well that didn't happen, it was thin pieces of fish, unlike the thick flakey scrod as in the past. I really doubt it was scrod and I left most of it on my plate. The waitress commented on the fish I didn't eat and I told her it wasn't what I expected. She was kind enough to get $4.00 knocked off my scrod dinner but told my husband she was sorry but she couldn't do anything about his steak! This is a local restaurant that we hadn't been to in a long time. We had recently heard some good things about it, sorry to say but it will probably be a long time before we return, if we ever do read more

As buffets go this place is pretty good. The food is clearly out of packages but the extra star is for the great dessert spread and the service. We went with s big group and the waitress did a great job of keeping our drinks full/replaced. It was very cold but they turned off the AC in our little party room for us and it was much better. I don't know how the prices are. read more

I don't think it's as good as when it was Haggerstown Buffet. We also went on an off time around 2:30 where things might have been in between the lunch and dinner menu and been out a little longer. But, if you like buffets it's pretty good. I love their cheesball and their hashbrown casserole. read more

Nothing was warm, nothing was labeled, things looked not done (cherry cobbler and corn casserole were soupy). Yuck!

One of the few times a business has gotten their act together and hits it out of the park. Okay, perhaps that is an exaggeration but Willie and Red's is good. We have returned and pleasantly pleased. My favorite is the cajun shrimp while my husband enjoys their pub food of sandwiches and onion straws. Give it a whirl. read more

We had an early Mother's Day dinner for 8 people on Saturday April 24 2021. The restaurant was about 1/3 capacity. We arrived a few minutes early and was escorted immediately to our table. Mask required to and from table. Also required was mask and gloves in serving line for buffet. Service was slow as it took about 15 minutes to flag a waitress down to taking drink orders and flatware. Food overall was excellent. Our group ate fried chicken, mashed potatoes, white gravy, corn, homemade Mac and cheese (not very good), scallop potatoes, meatballs in bbq sauce, roast beef, bbq ribs, hush puppies, corn casserole, cheesy potatoes, fried turnips, and yeast rolls. Assorted Pies and hand dipped ice cream for dessert. An overall positive experience and we definitely come again.. The only improvement I could see was the service should have been more prompt and our table could of been bused during our meal as plates collected at the end of the table until we left. read more

My husband and I sat on the bar side. I wasn't that hungry so I ordered a house salad and a baked potato. The baked potato was very dry. I ate half of it. The house salad was decent. The only issue I had with the house salad was the tomato that was served as part of the salad-- hard as a rock. Here it is tomato season in Indiana. Why not take advantage of farmers' markets and use the fresh produce that is currently available. My drink was good and reasonably priced. I had a rum and coke. Husband had a breaded tenderloin sandwich and he said it was very good. They use to bring a sample platter to the table prior to ordering that included a vege dip, a taco tip, crackers and cheese spread, and a cinnamon roll. They no longer do this. They do offer the crackers and cheese spread, but you have to go get it. read more

Our women's club ate at Willie & Red's on Thursday evening, December 4, 2014. The room we had was decorated beautifully with Christmas decorations and a gorgeous Christmas tree!!!! With the town all in lights, we felt like we were in a Christmas Village. :) The food was wonderful, and NO one went away hungry!! Our waitress (Emmy) was so sweet and attentive to our group!!! We have went to Wilie & Red's with large groups before, and it is so nice to have a room of our own...not too many places have that option anymore, and sometimes, with a large group, you just need a private room. I don't know why the reviews aren't better for this really fine buffet. This is as about good as country (and comfort) food gets. Everything is fresh, expertly prepared, and somehow kept from suffering the reduction in quality so often found on buffets. The salad bar is SO good. My husband and I are vegetarian, and we found plenty of delicious dishes to choose from. The $38 bill for the two of us is considerably less than we typically spend for a good dinner out in the Indianapolis area. We ate here when it was Guy Welliver's, and the quality of the food is just as good now that it's Willie and Red's. I don't know what the lousy reviews are about--unless the reviewers just expected it to be mediocre because of the press that followed in the wake of the difficulties that preceded its transfer of ownership. In short, if you find yourself anywhere near Hagerstown, don't miss Willie and Red's. (We drive 45 miles, from Fishers, to eat here.) They absolutely deserve your business, and you won't find better Midwestern home-style food anywhere. read more

It's an all-you-can-eat buffet (although you can also order from the menu). The salad bar is pretty nice. The fried chicken and "prime rib" are just fine. Never been here before and for a local place I was pleasantly surprised! Lots of Hoosier comfort foods! A great way to end our trip to Indiana. Very well done and the facility is obviously recently renovated and fresh. I was nervous at the thought of a buffet- having experienced the bovine preference for quantity over quality that usually accompanies such affairs. This was a bit more genteel, the food was better, and I left satisfied rather than feeling I needed a shower. Decor is a bit confused but real effort has been made. read more

Had a great family get together meal at Willie and Reds last night. They had some of the old favorites on the buffet and some new entrees like toasted ravioli and a delicious corn casserole. Had not been there in a few years but the restaurant looks good. They modernized the place while keeping a certain "Welliver-ness" for those of us that have been going there for years. Bottom line: we enjoyed our visit and will look for an excuse to make the 90 minute drive back to Willie and Red's. read more

My wife and I have been going here for years. They always had the best New York strip steak. When my wife and I visited them a couple weekends back to get our favorite steak. This was the worst steak I have ever had there half of it was fat and grisolI. I don't mind paying $26.95 for a good steak but this steak wasn't worth paying for. I was told before I left by an employee that the owner had changed his meat supplier and that the meat wasn't as good. I called the Manager and she denied this, took my phone number and I haven't heard from them since. Looks like he's tring to pay for his remodel by lowering the quality of his food. read more

We celebrated an early Mother's Day dinner yesterday. We had made reservations for 6. We arrived on time and were waiting our turn at the hostess station while they seated another party. A man came up behind me and pushed his way though out family members to get to the hostess stand. He cut in front of all of us to let the hostess know his party was all there and they were ready to be seated. My brother-in-law proceeded to tell the gentleman that we too were waiting and he had jumped the line. He proceeded to inform us he had reservations, and we told him we did as well. Instead of the hostess telling him to wait his turn, she took the man's party ahead of us. When she returned, she took a phone call before even helping us, then rudely asked us our name. She never apologized for her actions or for the rude man. We were seated in the back corner of the buffet room. The last time we were here in March the food was bad. Chicken was dried out, prime rib was tough, veggies not fully cooked, and cold food. The food this time was worse. Dried out chicken, undercooked carrots, sweet potatoes not fully cooked, my daughter pulling multiple chicken bones from her chicken and noodles to the point it grossed her out and she wouldn't eat any more, and again cold food. The only good thing about this visit was our waitress, who made sure our drinks were filled and to see if we needed anything. This was an hour long drive of disappointment, and an expensive disappointment to say the least. I won't be back, my family won't be back, and if that's how you want to treat people by being rude and disrespectful and seating people who line jump, then I'm sure there are plenty of other places with better food and friendlier staff to take our family too. read more

Great Hoosier food and service. If you don't like buffet/smorgasboard, order from the menu. Great prime rib on the buffet, amazing salad bar and fantastic deserts. I do miss the peel and eat shrimp, but you can still get them as a side or appetizer at extra cost.The steaks on the menu are delicious (i like the ribeye, my wife the sirloin), and if you go away hungry it is your fault. My wife and I eat here at least once a month, sometimes 3 or 4. They had a bit of a learning curve when they first opened,(which I believe accounts for some of the bad reviews), but are now a great place to dine. read more

We ate at Willie and Reds Saturday night January 17...2015. I had Baby back ribs that were so tender you could eat them with your fork...If your not a big eater I would recomend the Reds size because the Willies filled me up so much I could eat the rest of my food/...My wife had the stuffed shrimp and really liked it as well..We both ate way to much..The service was great and our drinks were always full...Reallly GREAT place to eat...Thank you Mike and Penny Wickes for all you have done to breath life back into Hagerstown Indiana...Jim Pass read more

I had the best Filet Men yon, this was the best Steak I have eaten in a long time!! I had a loaded bake potato with all the ingredients, and a side of house salad, which was made to order. My wife had a Barbeque ribs, this was juicy, and very tender, the meat just fell of the bone, with their flavors that made the barbeque sauce a real treat. My wife had the loaded bake potato also, with rice., my two sons had their famous grand buffet, with the best fried chicken my children loves chicken legs, and Mac and cheese. I was visiting family in Indiana last week. Thursday night I went out on the eve of my departure with an old friend to catch up on eachother's lives. My friend suggested Willie and Reds. I have not set foot in that building for years. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The new renovations are amazing, and so is the atmosphere. Our server's name was Amber. She gave us excellent service. She must have read from us that we were catching up on old times, because she didn't bother us with rhetorical questions, and just made sure our drinks stayed full, and our needs were met. Our food was amazing as well. The only thing that caught us off guard was a moment of awkwardness that we witnessed between another server and her table. The server was heavy set with short blonde hair, and glasses. The moment of awkwardness occurred when she approached the table diagonal to ours, and asked them if they were the family whose child had died? The family's demeanors instantly went from happy to sad. My friend and I discussed how forward, rude, and inappropriate the conversation was. That girl needs to be instructed on how to be courteous of her guests, and what overstepping her boundaries would consist of, because she seemed to be oblivious. Other than that moment our night was awesome! I will definitely return when I visit Indiana again. read more

we went to willie & reds last night at about 5 , and was shocked that not many people were there ...... the place looks great after the fire . that was the nice part ...... the food was subpar i had the fried chicken from the Smorgasbord and the out side was hot and the inside varly warm and was afriad to eat more than that first bite it was bland and vary greasy. i was stoked to see they still had the cream of onion soup but when i got it back to the table and took my first spoon i was so sad , the soup had a sour note and not the nice onion soup of wellivers past i was so sad. there wasnt one thing on the whole Smorgasbord that stood out as a wow dish everything was subpar and sooo not worth ever going back . i has ice tea and asked the waiter if it was fresh the reply was shocking it comes out of a jug they cant even make ice tea fresh....... the rice pilar was soggy mushy tasteless ........ they dont even make their own pie crust frozzen tastless soggie crust with a soso filling ......... no wonder we were only 1 of maybe 5 tables of people there . they should have just let the building be burned and not try and bring it back if this is what they are going to offer read more
