Reservable campsites on cooler Mount Charleston were already taken, so we decided to go to explore Lake Mead. The campground was just minutes from Las Vegas and Henderson. The campground sites offered large sites with paved parking, picnic tables, fire pits, and close proximity to well-maintained and clean restrooms (flush toilets, sinks, running water. No showers). We were dry camping in a Class B RV -- so no hookups -- but the campground had plentiful water spigots and lots of sun to charge our solar panels. There was a mix of campers - from those tent camping to others in large RVs. What was particularly nice was that there was some vegetation -- trees which provided some shade and flowering desert bushes. Our site also had a lovely view of the lake, which was about a 20-minute walk from the campground. (We did not walk down to the beach but others reported that it's rocky). There's a Visitor's Center for the recreation area just a few miles down the street. We spoke with the knowledgable and friendly park rangers, watched a park film, picked up some literature, and bought a few souvenirs.

This is probably one of my favorite campsites in all of Lake Mead Park. My favorite thing about this place is it's views! Depending on the site you get, there are some amazing views of the river of water going into Lake Mead, mountain sides, & beautiful cliffs. It is just awesome! They have nice, fully working restrooms. No showers. They have water spouts to get water. Each site has a picnic table & fire ring. No canopies or electricity hookups. If you live in Vegas, this is a quick getaway for a 1-2 night camping trip and well worth the trip every time. Reasonable priced and friendly camp hosts top it off as one of my go to spots for camping nearby the city.

They have various accommodation options such as wagons, teepees, stargazer domes, and tent sites. We stayed in the wagon that included AC and a bathroom/shower. The bed was comfy, the shower had just the right temp and water pressure, and the AC kept us cool during the hot summer day. We had breakfast and dinner at the on-site restaurant. No joke, but the burgers were one of the best I've ever had. It tasted like it was fresh off the grill from your backyard cookout. The staff at the resort were fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. A special shout out to Teddy who got us acquainted with the site and helped set up our fire. (Go Bruins!) We've already recommended this place to our family and neighbors and if we are to ever visit Grand Canyon West in the future, we'll definitely return to the glamping resort.

The town has had its ups and downs--mostly downs--over the years. Once a mining area, the town has gone downhill since mining ceased. There are signs that the town is for sale. In 2017, American Green Inc., an Arizona based company bought the town for $5 million and had the intention of turning it into a cannabis paradise. The company struggled to raise the money to convert the town into this cannabis resort and sold the town in 2018 for $7.7 million--$2.7 million more than they paid to buy the town to Delta International Oil & Gas, another Arizona company. Nipton is a pit stop on the way to/from Lake Mohave and Lake Mead. You will see a number of boats and trailers with jet skis traveling the route between Nipton and the docking areas along the Colorado in Nevada. Since my last time here, the town has added three pieces of public art. I enjoy seeing places that install art. It's a draw for tourists. But now stopping at the Trading Post for a cold drink or restroom break seems to be what the town is best for. It's a little gem in the desert, but it generally won't be on your "to do" list another time unless you're using this route to get to the Colorado.

There was also a store which was not stocked to the brim but when you are parched and dry this looks like the perfect oasis for an ice cold beer. There are several day trip destinations close by such as Nelson, Walking Box Ranch, Mitchell Caverns and Castle Mountains National Monument. I only like to visit this area in the month of April and October when the weather is perfect. But this month of May has been cool and rainy. A ver rare exception rather than the rule.

Valley of Fire State Park is one of the most breathtaking places I've ever visited. The scenic drive alone is worth the trip, but there are also plenty of great spots to stop, explore, and take photos. I especially enjoyed seeing the unique rock formations and the ancient petroglyphs. Everything was well maintained, and it was easy to spend several hours just taking in the scenery. If you're visiting the Las Vegas area, this is an absolute must see and well worth the drive. I would definitely come back again.

There was a bit of a line of cars waiting to enter, but once inside, everything felt surprisingly uncrowded. One of the coolest surprises was seeing several bighorn sheep walking along the road. They were much bigger than I expected and fun to watch from a safe distance. The landscape here feels almost otherworldly. The vibrant red rock formations, unique shapes, and dramatic scenery make it feel like you're on another planet. We spent our time driving through the park, stopping at various viewpoints to explore and take photos. The visitor center is excellent, with a great gift shop, and very clean restrooms. It was quite warm during our visit, so be sure to bring plenty of water, especially if you plan to do any hiking. If you're anywhere near Las Vegas or Henderson, I highly recommend making time for Valley of Fire. The scenery is absolutely stunning and well worth the visit.

We tried pitching a tent for an hour, then we made a ghetto tent on the back of a truck bed...then we left. My review is very similar to Eric C.'s, but that's because we got pwnd together. I believe this was one of the windiest days of the year; not an everyday thing. This site is smack dab in the middle of the desert. There is SO much to check out around it, and it's untapped beauty is something you rarely have a chance to see in life...It is definitely the most beautiful hole in the wall you will ever see, and at $12 dollars a night for the campground it can't get better for that price (as long as you don't have 60+ mph winds like our group). CHECK IT OUT. And look at weather reports prior...

We go camping at the site every year multiple times a season. It is a great time every time. The…read morebeautiful, tall trees are majestic and the deer are even more. Each site has something great to offer by providing a fire pit and large concrete picnic table. You'll find plenty of shade as well. There are rules we tend to find out each time we come out. Don't bring pallet wood because of the nails. Sometimes they don't allow open flames including your propane stove. That just depends on wildfire risk obviously. Don't feed the deer for safety reasons. The rangers are so friendly and cool. The last time we were there he offered us firewood for a reasonable price since all we had were pallets. Great price for great wood. I almost don't want to share this information just because it's such a gem of a campsite. We don't usually have other campers around us. Should I delete this? LOL
