This is my must go to place for a hearty breakfast, portions are big, never leave hungry. Come here early and be ready to wait as this place is small and is always full. I am lucky that never has to wait since I always sit at the counter. Love to have a conversation with the waiter. And after you order please be patient since there is only one cook fixing the meal for you. I've been here 4 times and my next time will try their pancakes. Well first of all the outside would have to be treated as a dive. (Sorry 3 D's will never visit this place!) I have been there twice and twice I had to check my memory to see what I ordered is what I received. The only thing I got that I could recognize either time was the Iced tea. The cheese steak sandwich I got the first time was unlike any one I had ever received over the past 20+ years. I have had them from Washington, DC to Los Angeles, CA. and from Okinawa, Japan to Santorini, Greece and they were mostly similar (cheese and chopped steak in a bun cut from the top or from the side.) and most dishes came with french fries on the dish. I could not identify the sandwich I received at the wobbly table in Willy's Kitchen. There was a lot of velveta cheese, wilted lettuce, some little green and white specks, about two spoons of something hard and brown, a pathetic small slice of tomato and it was all covered in Mayonnaise. (I never order this sandwich with mayo, I want mustard instead.) The french fries were stone cold. and the second time I tried their breakfast of western omelet, and grits with red eye gravy. The small omelet was warm, the toast was hot and the "grits" looked more like some kind of soup. ( I know how to make both good grits and real red eye gravy, Willy's does not have a clue!) My wife and I will never go back into that poor excuse for a restaurant! There are enough other dives and gas stations nearby that know how to make the basics for breakfast, lunch, dinner and popular sandwiches! We have been coming here for years and live Willy's Kitchen. Everything is homemade, locally sourced, and delicious, from the burgers to the Benedicts! The menu had a really nice selection to choose from, and they use locally sourced, which I like. I ordered a Farmers BLT. It came on toasted french bread with fried green tomato's, crisp iceberg lettuce and great bacon. Added an over easy egg as suggested by the waitress, yum. Had some country fried potato's as well. They were cooked with some onion and as well, nice and brown and a little crispy on the outside. I would have given 5 stars if the potato's were hot instead of warm. I only had water with lemon but my waitress kept it full and added new lemon each time. Looked like the locals were enjoying their meal as well as the place was busy. I have to admit I was a little disappointed with my meal after seeing all the rave reviews. Don't get me wrong, the staff are fantastic and make you feel right at home, the prices are fair but the food just really didn't stand out. The food was good but the wait was long. What was disturbing while waiting for the food was the kitchen is right behind the bar and you could see the young men (late teens) working in the kitchen. One of them was the dishwasher and he was making home fries in a potato cutting machine. In between handling raw potatoes with his bare hands, he would touch his face, pull out his cell phone to use, and reach on the floor to touch the dirty power cord. Not once did he wash his hands or think to use gloves. It took an abnormally long time for him to do this task, which should explain why it took so long to get the food. It seems slow is the common speed here. The other young man was cracking eggs and making omelette mixtures. At one point, he wore gloves but what is the purpose of the gloves if you cross contaminate everything? I think he wore the gloves to protect himself from the messiness of the eggs, not to protect us from his irresponsibility. Additionally, the entire staff keeps their personal drinks on the counter near everyone's food. It is not clean or professional to be so lazy. The staff is nice but I think they are complacent. There was one point where every seat in the place was full, but only two tables (approximately 6 people) had food. How could it be that this many people were waiting? The bell at the service window kept ringing but no one was retrieving the food. I understand being personable and taking to people, but this is neglect. read more

Amazing! Everything was amazingly homemade. At many restaurants the sides are an after thought. Not here. The potato salad, pasta salad, and apple sauce would be at home in any home kitchen. I'm rarely this impressed with a restaurant. I had the chicken and waffles. It was perfect. I really wouldn't have changed a thing. My wife got the western omelet. It tasted so fresh. They pride themselves on Farm to table made from scratch food and my opinion was we got just that. We sat down and placed our drink order fresh Oj for the kids and coffee and water for me and my lady the coffee was delicious and not to strong in taste and they have fresh creamer on the table in cool little mason jars, we got our food after about a 20 minutes wait but to me it was 100% worth it I ordered the homemade gravy sampler which was a biscuit with homemade sausage gravy, a slice of local bread with homemade creamed chip beef and home fries down the middle the gravies were so thick and full of flavor, my girlfriend ordered the sampler which had pancakes ,French toast, bacon, sausage, and sausage gravy, and eggs it was huge she actually split it with my step daughter the pancakes and French toast were so thick and fluffy. My step son ordered chicken biscuits it was delicious combo of homemade fried chicken tenderloins, scrambled egg, and cheese on two homemade biscuits with home fries. Everything they use here is bought from local bakeries and farms I'll definitely return to try more menu items they have a large variety they also offer quite a few healthy options as well as paleo options which was very neat something hard to find when eating out read more

The good: It has a nice country down home feel to it. The place is small and the staff is nice The bad: the food was not to our liking. We ordered liver, which was still very bitter, when you cook liver it needs to soak in milk to get rid of the bitter taste. I don't think they did that. It also didn't seem as if the liver was pan fried with flour which is how we like our liver. We also ordered the crab dip as an appetizer. That wasn't good either. We were scoping out a place to bring our family to the next day so we decided to try Willy's for breakfast. We arrived and discovered that they stopped serving breakfast at 11:00am. The waitress was lovely but told us that the only breakfast item was chicken and waffles. So, we asked if we could substitute a waffle for the chicken so my mom could get waffles. If they had said no, that would have been fine. But we could hear the cook responding to the waitress so rudely from the back. Again, a no would have been understandable, but hearing him (Kenny?) in the dining room being rude was just not the kind of place we wanted to give our money to. Chicken is more expensive that a waffle - why he had to yell about it is beyond me. We decided to leave and our family breakfast the next day was elsewhere. Best Restaurant I've been to so far living in MD for breakfast lunch and dinner. The establishment is small and quaint, so it can be a wait on busy mornings when they are popping. But don't let this discourage you or deter you from eating there, it is WELL worth the wait, that being said when it's busy you might also wait a bit for your food, but this is also well worth it. The food is made with farm fresh ingredients and local business supplied. You can definitely feel that the food is made with care for every customers selections. Nothing on the menu isn't worth getting, my top favorites have definitely been the Crab explosion omelette (a must try) and the crab melt / Bison Burger / Crab cakes are all delicious choices for lunch and dinner. 11/10 recommend everyone try, I will definitely continue to go back weekly! read more
