My wife chose to build her own omelette and I chose the Loaded Chicken and Waffle - bacon, buttermilk fried chicken, maple, sunny side up egg, green onion, maple butter. The service in this cozy and spacious local spot is friendly, helpful and quick. Having been here several times for lunch, the experience was just as warm and friendly on a Saturday morning. The food options are wonderful and for an extra treat - try their homemade ice cream. Much of their in ingredients come from local farms and producers. My recent brunch visit was, unfortunately, a considerable disappointment. Upon entering, the experience began on an unwelcoming note. Rather than being greeted or seated, I was handed a menu across the counter and instructed to return to the same counter when I was ready to place my order. Hoping to start simply, I requested a coffee. I was given a mug and told the coffee station was self-service. Regrettably, that mug should have been inspected more carefully before use. After preparing my own coffee and taking the first sip, I noticed an unpleasant waxy sensation on my lips. A quick glance at the rim revealed the unmistakable mark of lipstick from a previous guest. It was both unhygienic and deeply off-putting. The food itself did little to redeem the experience. The omelette arrived topped with onions that were cold and soggy, and the interior was filled with undercooked egg that had an unappetizing, gelatinous texture. The French toast, meanwhile, was notably dry and lacked the richness and balance one would expect from a well-executed brunch staple. I make a point of supporting local, independent establishments whenever possible, often choosing them over chain restaurants. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of expectations and left me wishing I had made a different choice. read more

I came here with family for a quick celebratory late breakfast, and it was such a great choice! The place was pretty quiet (probably because it was a weekday), which made it feel even cozier. Keith was at the front and he was incredibly helpful, answering all our questions with patience. The staff in the back were just as friendly and welcoming. I had the breakfast burrito and it was absolutely delicious. Other family members ordered the chicken & waffles and the Arbutus plate, and everyone was really happy with their meals. For drinks, we tried a hot coffee, iced pumpkin spice latte, hot vanilla chai, and mango lemonade--each one was a hit. Oh, I love this place!!!! My family was in the area to celebrate a citizenship ceremony at the Baltimore Field Office, and we came here for a celebratory brunch!! This place is so cute, vibey, and has a great atmosphere. The food and drinks are SOOO good and reasonably priced. We ate our food and drinks so fast because it was so good. We literally finished eating within 10-15 minutes. I ordered the chicken and waffles, along with a vanilla chai latte. Delicious!!!! Everything was homemade. Everything on the menu sounded super good and original for the restaurant. Our drinks are made on the spot. Our servers, Keith, were the sweetest and so kind. He was so helpful answering every question that we had, checking in about our food and drinks to ensure we were satisfied. He was the best. We don't eat pork, so both he and the chefs made sure to make substitutions to accommodate our dietary restrictions. The place is so cute (see pictures attached). There's artwork along the wall for sale. I truly love this place and would highly recommend it to others for a cute bite to eat solo, with family, or with friends. Thres ton of parallel parking out front and I will be back next week to try something else on the menu even though i dont live in the area. Hosted a bridal shower here in their newly renovated basement room. The space was perfect for a small crowd. Martha's provided a delicious breakfast spread. All the guests raved about how good the food was. Service was great as well. Martha's was responsive to my inquiries and the use of the space and the catering was reasonably priced. Down home local brunch place in Arbutus. My friend and I came in at 11 on a Saturday and there were plenty of available tables. It did not fill up until about 12. It is the kind of place where you order at the register, pick a table, and they bring the food out to you. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Presentation was nice and I liked the maple butter with the waffle, though the chicken was a little boring and could have had more seasoning in the breading. The food was 3 stars but I am giving them 4 stars because I liked the laid back vibe of the place and the fact that I didn't have to struggle for a table on a Saturday morning. There is no dedicated lot but street parking is unrestricted and plentiful on weekends on Oregon Ave in the area of the restaurant. read more

Planning a rare lunch with two coworkers proximate to Catonsville, another coworker from the area steered us toward Arbutus' fairly new Martha's--where old school diner meets modern taste. Fresh food, fresh faces, homey vibe! I enjoyed my fine grilled (or crispy) chicken sandwich on roll with "shreddy letty" and other condiments with Parmesan fries and Old Bay broccoli sides. My cos enjoyed shrimp and creamy tan grits and the breakfast plate. Service from various young and upbeat staff was efficient and attention to our diet and allergy requests much appreciated. Really cute place inside! The Service was just ok.....The food lacked flavor. The best thing was the toast and avocado. The iced coffee was all cream! Hot coffee had no flavor. I highly recommend this casual cafe in the Arbutus business district next to the Hollywood Theater. Replacing the institution that was Paul's Restaurant could have gone poorly, but Martha's Cafe has blended well into the community. Initially a full service restaurant, they have transitioned to order at the counter and the food will be served to your table. The food is excellent and plentiful, the menu is modern and BLD are all covered. The staff are very attentive and helpful and the vibe is homey and comfortable. It's great to be able to enjoy an upscale food experience without having to go to Catonsville or Howard County. While we have had a variety of their dishes we are partial to breakfast. Looking forward to many more meals here. read more

What an awesome discovery for us in Arbutus! Clean spot with attentive staff and service. Loved the variety of menu items - breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day! I had their cream of crab soup and chicken avocado melt with bacon. My husband had the same soup and a Reuben. I echo the same sentiment across many of the reviews - the cream of crab soup is AMAZING. We enjoyed the sandwiches we ordered, appreciated they didn't skimp on the meat. I do remember we had a side of the mac and cheese and it was the only item that was meh. Everything else was great though! I really enjoyed this spot and can't wait to try more of their other menu items! So many options! Highly recommend! Our travels today from Towson brought us over to the west side of the County, and I'd had this place bookmarked for a while, so we stopped in for brunch. It would be a 25-30 min drive from Towson to Martha's, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive there weekly to eat here. Such a hidden gem! Let me start with the service. These are some genuinely super nice people who clearly love what they do. The staff has a family vibe, and that starts at the top with the owner. Will is on-site, working, hands-on, and super well respected by his staff (3 different people told me about how great he is to work for). Onto the food. LAWDAMERCY! The food! Loaded Chicken and Waffles: The flavors went together so well, and the maple butter is bomb. Only criticism was that the bacon on the dish was not at all crispy, and well....flaccid. (Sorry for that word) (8/10) Monte Cristo: absolutely delish and the raspberry jam is such a nice contrast to the ham(s) and swiss. (9/10) Creamed chipped beef: This one SENT US. Probably the best cream chipped beef I've had in my 53+ years on earth. The chipped beef is finely chopped, and the gravy is smooth and like BUTTAH. This is the dish I would drive around the beltway for on the regular. Even the Pullman toast is perfect. Hearty enough to provide a perfect raft for the chipped beef, and toasted to perfection. Chef's kiss all around. (40 bajillion stars/10) Sides of scrapple and bacon: We requested for both to be crispy, and honestly, I would've liked about minute on the cooktop for the scrapple to really get a nice crust, but it didn't matter because the scrapple was soooo good. Inner texture was smooth, and free of toenails (sorry again, but IYKYK) which made me wonder if it was housemade. I wouldn't be surprised if it was, and if not, def was local. Quirky place with a good menu, but it's short of food on the plate, which, thankfully, is mostly tasty. Good service, no complaints there, but a tad too pricey for what you get. I wish them well. The clean open floor plan is inviting and the staff is friendly and helpful. Food was full of fresh ingredients and flavors. Had the veggie pita and really enjoyed it. For dessert there is a good variety of homemade ice cream! Also fruit smoothies! The convenience of being next door to a movie theater with lounge love seats make a fantastic date night. Super excited to have a non-chain breakfast restaurant near by. My son and I visited today for the first time and we both loved our meals. My son said the eggs and bacon were the best he's ever had and we both loved his gourmet toast with maple butter. I had the avocado toast on pita (first time ever having it this way) and it was so delicious. I must say I only want my avocado toast like this now because regular toast gets too soggy. One thing I want to point out because I was super impressed by this, is that for the breakfast meals you can substitute any meat for avocado at no additional coat. If you're a vegetarian you know struggle for the added protein. I would love to see a vegetarian meat option but I know that isn't for the mass. The coffee is from a local place and it's delicious. For our two meals, a smoothie and cup of coffee, our total (not including tip) was $28. I think that is amazing for delicious, non-chain, locally sourced menu items. This will definitely be our go to for local breakfast. Also, I asked and you can get a coffee to go which is great because there isn't a good coffee shop in Arbutus/Elkridge area and their coffee if delicious. read more

We went back to Martha's to try dinner. Oh my goodness!!! What a surprise!!! The food was prepared magnificently, served beautifully and as expected....freshly prepared. My husband had the chicken pot pie that had all white meat chicken, peas, carrots, etc. topped with 2 homemade puff pastry biscuit...freshly made. I had the meatloaf with 2 sides and had to bring home my salad and mac and cheese sides. The meatloaf was phenomenal...my husband had to share it since he is a meat loaf lover. Fresh meat with diced onions and other spices and topped with a special sauce. My garden salad was the size of a large Panera salad and my mac & cheese side barely fit in the bowl without overflowing. Each of our entrees were only $15 and for dinner....that is very reasonable. It was also very nice to see some of the same staff from when we came to breakfast one time and once to brunch. To me , that says a lot about management....BTW: You can order brunch and breakfast all day.... This cafe is a gem and supports the local community which is very important. One of my organizations will be using them for catering soon. Try it for yourself and check them out on Facebook or on their website. Don't expect the usual...expect better. read more

Having a small diner/restaurant in our community is very important. I was so happy to hear that Martha's was joining us! We went during the soft opening and ordered breakfast platters, coffee, and OJ. Food was great however I was a little thrown off that it only came with a half piece of toast and that my coffee was $4.... Same price as the OJ. I would suggest a full slice of bread and lowering the price of coffee, but that's just my two cents. Service was great; they hired the servers back from the previous establishment which I thought was really awesome. The changes they made to the aesthetic were very nice. Martha's Cafe is incredible. My wife and I stopped in for Saturday brunch. It used to be a place called Paul's, which was an Arbutus institution, which we were lucky enough to visit before it closed. Martha's does Paul proud with their delicious brunch options. My wife had the chicken and sausage gravy which comes on top of a perfect waffle. I had the corn brisket bowl that has a delicious spicy aioli on the side. Everything was awesome. It's super clean and fresh inside and the servers were super nice and attentive. Martha's is open till 7pm and sits side by side with a cute old theater that plays current movies. The perfect date spot! We'll definitely be back! read more
