We were walking out to Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror and honestly it felt like a perfect sendoff. Between the two of us we worked through sausage, bacon, eggs, grits, French toast, and potatoes -- everything was fresh, well-seasoned, and came out fast. The service was friendly without being over the top. Fair warning: don't come expecting espresso drinks or mimosas, it's a traditional diner. But they do have oat milk, and fresh dairy alternatives. Being a regular shopper to the Catonsville Farmers Market, I have always been intrigued by the creative and delicious-sounding items on their specials board. But I had not previously gone in because it is BUSY!!!! In going during less peak times, I have been overjoyed by each visit. The biggest surprise is the New Mexico influence to many dishes. They even know what "Christmas style" is!! The food is far superior to most diners. Seating is limited, but there are outdoor tables when the weather is nice. Doozy's is a cute little diner with a retro vibe. I'm a true Baltimorean and I have to say, I've never heard of this place. It's crazy because I frequent the Catonsville area. I woke up pretty early and wanted breakfast and thi was the first one to pop up. It's right behind the Beaumont and there's a nice amount of street parking. When I first walked in no one was at the front. From what I saw there was only one server on. But Claresse was a rock star! For Breakfast I had the Cornbread French Toast and Chicken. It's 3-4 slices of cornbread, cooked like French toast and 3 nice sized chicken cutlets. I also had a side of smash browns. The fuss was good and it was a decent sized portion so half of it went home with me lol. To drink, I had a black coffee. It was a basic black coffee.. As a person that loves coffee.. I want impressed. But it's a diner so it was ok. The downside to my meal was the coffee. It was too basic. They only have dairy creamer. And my mug had a crack in it . Honestly we were so pleasantly surprised when we happened upon this diner. My bf needed to go pick up a bike and we wanted to grab something to eat nearby. This was right down the street from his bike store so we walked in and were seated promptly. The decor was appealing to me with a new mexico / south west vibes and colors. The service was quick and attentive and friendly. I got the Santa Fe omelet which was stuffed with brisket and served alongside maybe some of the best crispy and seasoned breakfast potatoes I've ever had. Now, as a chef, I tend to hold my dining experiences to a higher standard. I've worked in kitchens long enough to recognize when a team is dialed in, and that was obvious here. My food came out hot, properly seasoned, and executed with precision. I ordered the pastrami creamed chipped beef, and it was absolutely delicious. Rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying--comfort food done with finesse. Every bite felt like a perfect balance of indulgence and intention. But more than just the food, it was my server, Stephanie, that elevated the entire experience. She was friendly, insanely fast and efficient, and clearly took pride in her work. I went to have breakfast this morning at Doozies Diner, and what impressed me the most about this place wasn't just the food--which was quite good--but the local media camp that was filming a commercial on the premises. I'm a sucker for community engagement, and watching those little kids interview people for the diner really made my day. I do love this place. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. My favorite thing on the menu is the eggs Benedict with crab dip which is insanely flavorful. I do also like their "smash browns" although they are inconsistent with quality. Sometimes they are super crispy and fresh and other times taste rubbery as if they had been sitting around for an hour and then reheated. The restaurant itself is very cute and I love that they have a play area with books and toys for my young kids. My one area I don't love is the service. Some servers are wonderful and pleasant and helpful. Some, especially during lunch time, can be a little rushed or even rude when interacting with them. For instance, last time I went for lunch, the server seemed annoyed I was asking questions about some of the entre's... which I'd understand if it was busy, but it was 11:30 and we were her only table. Went to doozy's at 11am on a Saturday. Outdoor seating was available, but it was a bit too cold so we came inside. The place is small, but quaint. So if you come during a brunch or dinner rush, I would expect to exercise some patience. We were greeted cheerfully and sat immediately. I ordered the vegetable hash. I thought it was extremely flavorful and fresh. My only comment would've been to make the red potatoes a little more crunchy, as they were for my boyfriends dish. But this is a personal preference and NOT a chef note or anything to knock a review for. I just loved his crunch on the potatoes he got with his steak and eggs. Look, this man refuses to buy steaks at restaurants because "he can cook an amazing steak at home." He was over the moon with his 14 oz. Strip and eggs for $22. He said it was one of the best diner steaks he has ever had. As a vegetarian, this means nothing to me. But in all my years of dating him, i don't often hear great steak reviews from this omnivore. We also ordered the house made cinnamon bun for the table and ate the entire thing before our meal (oops). The portions were very generous, and I was able to bring some of my hash home and I'm excited to eat it again tomorrow for breakfast. The dressing was basil balsamic dressing on the side which I switched out for a balsamic vinaigrette. My husband got the cheesteak identified as "new". Full of great tasting tender beef. After a wedding in DC from the night before, we were traveling to our YKF studio and came across this place. This place is so charming, I felt more enlightened after I left. I'm not joking. I swear, Catonsville truly has some amazing hidden gems! I ride up and down Frederick Road multiples times a week, but never noticed Doozy's Diner hiding just off of the main road. Luckily, Yelp always comes through with amazing suggestions! I utilized their website to order take, since I was picking it up and heading straight to work. The diner is very quaint, small but big enough so you're not on top of the other customers. My order was ready much earlier than promised and I was in and out. The food was piping hot! I actually made two stops, before heading to work to dig in! When I first open the container, I swooned! The smells were so amazing! The first bite was love! Doozy's is a very comfortable place with outside seating. Our server was very attentive as we're all of the workers passing by our table. This restaurant is quite cozy! It's very small, probably not great for large parties unless you plan on renting the entire space. Our party of two went early on a Saturday morning. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table. Once we were seated, our server greeted us immediately. It didn't take long for us to place our order and we didn't have to wait long for our food. I had the chorizo hash and my partner had pancakes and eggs. No complaints on either meal (thankfully, he always lets me try his food). Unfortunate. We live very close by and want to support local businesses, but we can't give them any more chances. Here are my 4 experiences at doozy's. 1: They just opened. Our poached eggs were hard boiled for our Benedict and the food was gross. We gave them the benefit of the doubt since they were new. 2. We came back and had a good time. The food was pretty good, service was good. 3. We were quickly seated and then ignored for 15 minutes. Literally nobody acknowledged us. We watched other tables be seated and served while we were invisible, so we left. 4. Final try, 10/05. Quickly seated and served. Then the server disappeared. We got pancakes but no syrup. There was nobody to ask for syrup or hot sauce because our server didn't return until everything was cold and half eaten. Ran out of napkins and had nobody to ask for napkins because this is how one of our napkins looked on the table before we even got there. This is especially tough because I literally work full time in a restaurant as a bartender. Ever since Paul's restaurant in Arbutus closed, I've been trying to find a good breakfast spot nearby. One of the former employees at Paul's recommended Doozy's so I decided to give them a try. The place is super cute and they have indoor and outdoor seating. I got the Doozy burrito with brisket and it was so good! The brisket was perfect and the smashed potatoes inside were great. My friend got the thicc elvis which is a French toast sandwich with banana, peanut butter, and bacon jam. With a side of the smashed potatoes. Really cute spot with solid food and wonderful family atmosphere. Came for late brunch. I was actually able to eat my food in peace (catfish po'boy which sooo hit the spot as the daughter of a Cajun chef), while my 2 year old read books and played with the toys in their little library. I love this place. The hash bowl is my go-to, and the kids love the pancakes, which are super fluffy and big. The service is really friendly, and they always keep your coffee mug full and hot. The decorations are also really cozy, so I get a happy feeling when I look forward to going here. Also, before my transplant surgery when I was on an oxygen concentrator machine, they were super accommodating and got me a seat by a wall outlet, so I could keep my air supply flowing. I'm sorry, but Doozy's Diner was a real dud, and probably one of the worst breakfast/brunch and dining experiences we've had in a while. We were excited to check this place out due to the photos and the 'rave reviews', but really not sure what the other individuals are on, because this place was NOT it. There really isn't a waiting area, as this place is pretty cozy - we did wait by the entrance area in which we had to play tango with some of the patrons who were entering/leaving. Our server was Brooke M., and she was just awful. I wish we had the other staff member who was working on the other half of the restaurant, as he seemed attentive and actually ended up helping us out and taking care of our check. Brooke hardly checked-in on us, and seemed more focused on the 'regulars'. She also was unable to explain and clarify the menu correctly when we asked questions, and when we received items that were not what was described on the menu, she dismissed us completely and backtracked/tried to justify by stating that 'nothing could be incorrect since the owner of the restaurant checks each and every order that comes out of the kitchen'. So, how does that explain the missing items on our entrees? We ordered: +the Doozy Burrito - flour tortilla stuffed with onions, green hatch chile, fried potatoes, and protein of choice (I opted for refried pintos); I requested this to be 'Deep Fry My Burrito (CHIMI Baby!)' (yes, that is how it was stated on the menu), but what was received was a burrito that had a hard tortilla exterior that seemed to have been placed in a toaster oven; I also requested this to be 'Smothered and Covered' with Queso, but it came out in this red chile sauce that was never mentioned in the description, and there was no queso - when this was pointed out, Brooke stated that it must have 'mixed in with the other sauces', which clearly it wasn't; when the manager came over, he admitted that it was their mistake and was totally forgotten; the whole thing looked gross and was not touched +the Santa Fe Omelette - stuffed with shredded brisket, cheddar, red bell peppers, and onions; covered in hatch chile sauce; side of smash browns; this was super bland (the smashed potatoes, the brisket), and was not enjoyed The pillows that were on the long wooden bench seat were dirty and gross; I get that this was for decor, but at least clean them? Recently came in here with Child #2 for brunch. The vibe is New Mexican in both décor and the number of green chile inspired dishes there are. It's the little things, like how every table has a different type of kitschy salt and pepper shakers (our were a bolt and lug nut). The wait staff was very fast and friendly and we felt taken care of. Overall the food was decent. I really enjoyed my vegetable hash, which was huge and filling; I had to take some home with me. Child #2 ordered the pancakes, which were nice and thick. I found the pancakes a little gummy - either they weren't cooked enough or the fact that they came pre-syruped made them soggy. It was creamy and came with melted cheese. I added butter to mine which was the icing on the cake for me. * West Texas Steak & Eggs * Eggs your way (scrambled was the pick), steak Carne asada, pico, refried beans and smash browns. The steak was tender and the other side accompanied the platter was tasty. * Stacked Enchiladas * Corn tortillas layered with melted cheese, refried beans, topped with red or green chile (green was the pick), sour cream, lettuce and a fried egg. As a fried egg lover, I was excited to see the egg in the description on the menu (why didn't I think of this!?). This was the favorite of the bunch. The service is great. Much needed breakfast in Catonsville! The place that was here was definitely past its prime and a change was needed. The look is refreshing and the menu an exciting change. Service was excellent for a Thursday morning and quick! Let's talk about the food! Coffee was great and I was able to ask for oat milk which is nice. The sopapillas were light, sweet and delicious. I also tried the breakfast platter. I substituted a biscuit for my toast which was a dollar upcharge and added sausage gravy. I don't mind the up charge but the biscuit was very dry and crumbly very hard to eat. The biscuit was not at all fresh. The sausage gravy was very herbaceous and delicious. Not sure I could eat a whole plate of it but the side was perfect. The potatoes on the side were the star of the show! This is the worthy successor to Duesenberg's American Cafe and Grill which closed rather abruptly. There's been some modest refurbishing but overall layout is the same. There's metered street parking and there's a business parking lot across the street that seems open to the public on weekends. Our server Azalea was exceptionally cheerful and welcoming. Her food suggestions were definitely on point. The coffee I believe is Bustelo and it was an auspicious start. For real this was some of the best grits I've ever had. Not lumpy or runny. The biscuits and gravy were smashed by me with alacrity. Definitely homemade. My omelette was crab, Swiss cheese and spinach. Scored high marks with me. Slide your way to Doozy's.
