I recently discovered this small little cafe in the middle of a shopping center. There's a good amount of seating though, but there was quite a bit of a wait time to be seated. After being seated and ordering, my food came out pretty quickly. I ordered a hot chocolate and the crab Benedict. I had to add salt to the Benedict but it was still good. First time checking this place out--super cute and the staff was really friendly. Got greeted right away and they sat me in a booth near the kitchen. Menu showed up fast, and my drink was in hand before I knew it. Thanks to the Yelp crew, I already had my eye on the French toast platter. Great little find. Came in for breakfast with my husband. He got a build your own omelette and I got the French Eggs Benedict. My husband enjoyed his omelette and I fully enjoyed my French Eggs Benedict! It was seasoned perfectly and I liked the French bread twist instead of an English muffin. This place has been on my list of places to try and we finally got there today. First note, they serve breakfast all day. Upon entering, there is a sign that reads "wait to be seated" so we paused. A friendly voice greeted us from the service area and said 'hello, take a seat wherever you like'. I immediately felt like I was being welcomed into someone's home. We were quickly brought menus as well as coffee. The menu has your standard offerings of breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, omelets, eggs benedicts, and customizable breakfast platters. And of course, biscuits and gravy as well as chipped beef gravy on toast! I chose the sausage gravy on biscuits (large size), and my guy got the platter with scrapple, home fries, scrambled eggs, and toast. Everything was delicious and the coffee was good. You can tell when the wait staff is overwhelmed because they become snippy and won't take an order for anything that cooks longer than an omelette lol. I often get the Liver brown gravy rice and broccoli each visit. Next time I will try the delicious looking taco bowl they served a table next to me. This restaurant is a staple and have been around as long as I have lived I. The area and that's over 20yrs and I must admit the quality and taste of their food has remained constant from the first day I came here. Ex employee here-- I'll tell you guys what really goes down here. Orchard Cafe is the WORST place i've ever worked in my entire life. First off, all the workers are getting paid under the table. Each week we get a cash envelope with our pay. The petty owner does not give us the customers tips, all our tips go to management. The management here is awful and disgusting. The way the owner's talked to me was crazy. Kyung (the owner) is the most controlling person ever, if you ever come in and your order isn't getting taken it's because of her. If you see open tables and you're not getting sat it's because of her. The employees are getting micromanaged. I would be doing something of my own, she would scream at me to do something else which caused a lot of error in the restaurant. Everytime the bell would ring (meaning food is ready to be taken out) she would freak everyone out to go get the food, mind you she is doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I never got the husband's name but he's a big problem as well, he refuses to remake food sometimes. He's also apart of the controlling because sometimes he's controlling Kyung (the owner). Since he's the "kitchen manager" sometimes we would be forced to sit people, take their order but not put it in the system. Speaking of their "system" I'm not sure how they even had one because none of us were trained properly. They would mostly throw us into the game without any guidance or anything. Then we would get screamed and yelled at because we didn't know how to do something we'd weren't taught. Back to the organization, it was just so terrible here. The ticket system was bad, the way we did money (we had to manually enter totals), there were no sections for each person (so we were all running around like chickens serving everyone) . It would be a hot mess. Overall, I do not recommend this place for customers or staff because both are treated very poorly. read more

The food is mediocre at best. The service is subpar due to management telling experienced employees what to do. Some items that need attention. They don't sit customers when they have open tables. Example: six people waiting they have four open tables. The theory is the kitchen is backed up. Just sit folks they can have coffee and wait at a table. There are some other odd rules that management implements that make absolutely no sense at all but. If you are in a small rush and need to be somewhere within 90 minutes forget about it. They can have eight open tables and only you waiting and you will sit for 20 minutes before being seated. read more

Got scrapple? Love it or Hate it? A work colleague had recommended we try Scrapple and these were some of the first initial impressions. One girl said ".. It's not for me.." Another girl said "I think I had this before but I blocked it out from memory" We all agreed it reminded us of Pumpernickel bread. (And shaped like spam) Now, scrapple isn't going to win any awards for its appearance, just like the state of PA where it originated from. However, it does serve as a filling mystery meat alternative to the traditional bacon, sausage or ham. For some, the love of this "meat" might bring you some nostalgia of your childhood. Your mom or grandma made it and you either loved it or hated it. Although, not everyone is a fan, a good chunk of the population must love it enough to give Scrapple its very own national holiday on Nov 9. If you're every in the Mid-Atlantic region do give Scrapple a try so you can at least say you've had it once. Disclaimer: The breakfast was great and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Orchard cafe is one of our favorite breakfast spots located in the Food Lion plaza. The restaurant does not take reservations but does have takeout. When you walk in there's a small sitting area where you'll wait for a host. Names aren't taken or written down so it's on an honor system and they'll ask, who's next. This place can get packed so don't go during the typical breakfast/lunch/after church hours. We usually order breakfast sandwiches and they're always delicious. When we were seated it took 5 minutes to get a menu. I ordered a coffee they brought me a coke. Like I said a little overwhelmed for a mostly young and inexperienced staff. For a relatively simple order wait time was longer than expected once our order was placed. The upside to the visit was the food. The food was good. My son was extremely happy with his pancakes and bacon. That makes it worth it no matter what.
