I left this place more tense than when I arrived and extremely disappointed. I booked a 90-minute Swedish massage and clearly requested light pressure, no finger pulling, and no spine or knuckle popping. I told both the front desk and Pulsri directly. Despite that, she massaged far too hard. I repeatedly asked her to go lighter and told her she was hurting me. She would adjust briefly, then go right back to being too rough, or just move to a different area instead of fixing the issue. She also popped my back and tugged on my fingers multiple times after I explicitly said not to. The headrest was stuffed so there was no opening to breathe. I pointed it out at the start and kept readjusting, telling her it was uncomfortable and hard to breathe, but nothing was fixed. When she saw me move my head she kept asking if I was okay. I expressed my problem but she went right back to massaging instead of fixing the headrest. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At the end, while I was still lying there naked under a thin sheet, Pulsri asked if I was tipping in cash or Zelle and continued standing there after I said I'd tip outside. It was uncomfortable and inappropriate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were also multiple signs in the tiny room stating a $30 minimum tip. Then she stood extremely close while I logged into my phone to send it, ignoring my requests for space and making me uncomfortable about my personal information.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This experience was painful, stressful, and unprofessional. I live very close to Wilshire Spa but had not tried it until I had a really challenging neck issue that was affecting my rhomboid muscle. PT was helpful, but going to see Betty really helped the most. I prefer deep tissue to get my knots out and I don't care if I have to breathe like I'm in labor to get through it. I generally will choose a man because they have bigger stronger hands, but Betty was awesome. This was real authentic Thai massage with deep tissues and she is very well trained. I left feeling looser and the rhomboid pain was gone completely. I'm so grateful to have found this place. The price is very fair and I always tip $40 because I know how much I'd pay any place else. If you want light Swedish you'd probably be happier at Burke Williams. read more

Had a 60 min massage here - it was only $65 before tip which is unbelievably cheap, so I figured it was worth trying out, but it unfortunately very much felt like a cheap massage :( The front desk lady and my massage therapist were both very nice. The facility has no frills, but I didn't really mind it. What I did mind was that the massage itself felt a bit lazy and not super pleasant - lots of digging and rubbing with the elbows and forearms and very little work with her hands (which was the only part that felt good!) I felt that my massage therapist was doing a LOT of repetitive motions in places that absolutely didn't need to be massaged (like the side of my calf and the side of my arm? it's so bony in those areas that it just started to hurt after the first time, but she focused on those areas for DOZENS of strokes...) and I honestly felt like they were just being focused on because they were easy to reach. This is probably a decent enough joint for some people for the price, but personally I'd happily pay $30-50 more for a better, more relaxing, and more thoughtful/skillful massage. Between the back walking, the tissue manipulation, and the pressure, you'll be holding your breath at moments. HOWEVER, you will walk away feeling like a new person. My fiance and I came here for the third time. The first two experiences were nice. This time didn't go so well... After booking our appointment, getting a call to change it, then getting another call to come in right away if we wanted 90 minutes massages, we finally made it. We were the last appointments of the day at 6pm and were asked to pay upfront ($85 for 90 minutes, important later). No problem. Then we were asked to leave a tip before getting our massages. We politely told the receptionist we would tip afterward based on our experience. She said ok, you can venmo at the end by scanning the code on the front desk. Very glad we didn't tip upfront. I've had two other good massages here, but this one was below average. Usually it's a decent value for the price you pay vs what you get. This particular lady was noisy, kept telling me to get into different positions: "raise your leg / move your arm / turn on your side / now other side". I just want to relax, not be made to work during my time here. The good masseuses manipulate your body into the positions they want you in. It didn't help that this lady didn't speak very good english. I'm not usually one to complain, especially after getting a massage, but I would be lying if I didn't say I was disappointed. I did feel somewhat relaxed of course, but not to the degree of any of the other massages I got here. To add insult to injury, as the lady finished and left the room she slapped my on the arm and said "You give me good tip." Pretty tacky. The nail in the coffin... at the end the only two employees left were our two masseuses. I Venmoed $20 and thanked them. The moment I took one step toward the door they asked, almost in unison "How much did you tip?" I said $20. The lady scoffed and pointed to a sign that said "90 minute massages should tip between $25-35". IN WHAT WORLD!? 20% is the standard in the service industry and I generously tipped above that. I love getting deep tissue massages and my friend wanted to try the place using classpass. I don't have classpass myself so I decided to pay for the massage based on the reviews I read on here. I chose Jeanny based on one of the reviews claiming it was the best deep tissue they ever received and was highly disappointed. She asked me what pressure I wanted and I said hard but the whole time it felt like a Swedish massage. I have been coming to Wilshire Massage for over 10 years. I have seen May ever since. She is simply the best. She is intuitive with the massage and always listens to my needs. She also pushes me a little to work out some knots and she is still gentle. Thorough is the key word with May. I love the flow of the massage and she even notices details, like when I get a stuffy nose (from the massage) and she is ready with tissue and oils/herbs to help out my congestion. I have always had a great experience with the massage studio. Andrew and the other ladies working the front desk are great. The studio itself is clean and peaceful. I sometimes bring ear plugs just because if it's a particularly busy time you might hear the people in the adjacent rooms. It's never been a huge issue. There is also plenty of metered parking in the neighborhood as well as a parking lot off of Cochran I think (look for the public parking sign). I have also been seen by Betty and Paula and they are fantastic as well!! I don't think you can go wrong with any of the therapists. I always feel relaxed and like my body has gotten a solid work-up!! The massage feels well thought out, never rushed. The ladies are working their bodies hard to give our bodies what they need. This is truly a therapeutic experience and worth the price and price of tip, which I always make sure to give generously in cash. I almost don't want to leave this review so that this place isn't too busy next time I want to go. But it wouldn't be fair not to say something. This is hands down the best massage place in the area. Betty and May are fantastic. If you want medium or hard pressure, they'll walk on your back and will get into muscles you didn't even know were sore. If you want lighter pressure, they can do that too. If you tell them what hurts, they do a great job at focusing on that area. It's less expensive than most places I've been to, so I'd encourage you to tip well because they work really hard. I'd recommend calling and describing what type of massage you want and then the person at the desk will recommend a masseuse. I definitely go here whenever I can. read more

Woohoo they're back open! I've been coming here since I moved to LA in 2017. I will never forget the first convo I had with Andrew. I called whilst I was at Costco waiting to get gas and told him about my back problems and that my friend had introduced me to a nail and massage spot in Santa Monica but like the 3rd time I went, the masseuse tried to give me a happy ending. I am not kidding... So of course when I spoke with Andrew that's the first thing that came up and he was like ohhh nooooo!! Now 4 years later I'm devoted to Wilshire Massage. I am a huge Susan fan. She just goes to town with all my knots! If you are looking for a zen, super spa like soothing experience, Susan is not your lady. If you need a problem solver she's your hero! I'm going to be honest, there have been times when she's trying to get a knot out that I'm seriously crying bloody murder in my head but if you're able to get through it, you're a brand new person the next day! Lately given COVID, Susan hasn't been around so Andrew introduced me to Kate. I love her style as well. She uses more oil than Susan and massages with long strokes. Then for the really tight areas she really gets in with her elbows. The pain level is more tolerable and I'm probably going to rotate between Kate and Susan. My husband switches between Paula and May (or tries to steal Susan from me once in a while). Their styles are very similar except Paula is definitely stronger than May. I've tried both ladies and they're both really good! They come in with a game plan and maximises the time to help you relax. This was my second time going to Wilshire Massage! First, Andrew at the front desk was friendly and accommodating! I requested Betty but she was completed booked as she is very popular and AMAZING! I was told Tony was available and trust, one of the best massages I ever had! In defense of Wilshire Massage, I don't understand why people complain about the tip policy as it is clearly stated and visible at the front desk! The massage cost is so low, so the therapists should get a tip over 20%. I have had massages at The Peninsula and Maybourne Hotels in Beverly Hills which with tip is around $300.00 so this place is a great value. I will be back! read more

Just got back a few hours ago from my massage. After much digging on Yelp and reading reviews, I decided to give this place a shot. I gave them a call when they first opened and made an appointment for later that day. The man I spoke with was super nice and friendly. He even asked about my situation and what areas I need help with - already started my experience on a good note. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a young man right away and guided to my room. The environment was nice. Nothing fancy, but very clean, quiet, and had soothing music. I did a one-hour deep tissue massage and my masseuse was May. I really loved my massage because she really did such an amazing job identifying my knots and where I was tight, and really eased them. Her strength was right on and she kept asking me throughout if the pressure was ok or if I'm okay especially when she tackled the tighter spots. You can tell that she's very experienced and knows what she's doing which is always awesome. Overall, May did a wonderful job. Their price points are great and it allows me to tip even better - so I'm a happy camper! I definitely will come again. I have yet to experience a massage from May, but I'm declaring my 5 Star review after getting two massages months apart. The first time was an adventure. The second time was a celebration. So, for the last few weeks my right arm has been hurting in a weird way. When I stretch it out a certain way a weird pain comes over me. I know it's a combination of a lot of things, but mainly it's because I don't stretch enough, or at all. Add to that my poor diet. I'm usually in L.A. on the weekends so my friend and I dropped by yesterday with an appointment we made the day before. They can get pretty busy so I definitely recommend making an appointment. We got there just a few minutes before our appointment time. First up was a bathroom break. Then I went to my assigned room. I was butt ass naked in room 3 or 4 in bed when homey told me I was in the wrong room. Silly mistake. I walked down to the right room with a bedsheet over me. I wish I got her name, but the lady who worked on me was amazing. She asked 2 things - my firmness preference (hard) and if she could walk on my back (HELL YES). She went to town after I told her where my problem area was. I'm not one to almost fall asleep while getting a massage, but she did such a great job that I almost dozed off willingly. She walked on my back to get the really tense area. I heard things pop. Arms were stretched. My feet were worked. My legs got some love. She focused on my back and boy did it pay off. She totally got all the knots. Another confirmation was the weird noises I kept making. LOL. I had one of the best sleeps last night. See you guys soon. I'm coming for you next May. this massage was a B- at best on a college grading scale which converts to a 1 star on yelp considering "star inflation" i am a huge fan of Abbot Massage which is supposedly owned by the same owners and tried this place and was extremely appalled by the LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM and DISRESPECT and LACK OF SKILL by the massage therapists here. When we first walked in we were asked to immediately tip because we were the last customers there, before we even got a massage and the minimum tip amount was 25%. I wouldn't have tipped even close to that amount if i knew what type of experience my boyfriend and I would receive. Personally, I asked for a "hard" deep tissue massage in specific areas that weren't targeted well. She only when hard when she was stepping on me. I just feel like my therapist didn't understand my body well. Other than that she lacked effort and covered that up with her body weight. Two wonderful ladies named B and Susan gave us the most amazing massages. It was $52/ hour - can you even beat these prices!?
