Miss Maisey, her first night home from the hospital happy to be as snug as a bug on her bed.
    Sarah W.

I had to take our 1 1/2 yr old dog Maisey in to this facility, she had eaten a piece of vermin, that had eaten rat bait. They said the best thing to do was to go ahead and get started on her bloodwork and check her vitals, even though we had not seen a doctor yet. We agreed and they took her in the back. After that, everything moved much faster. They brought her back out to us and once the test results were done, our little Miss Maisey's triage status was just bumped to the front of the line. They jumped into action, got us in with Dr. Laura, started IV fluids and admitted her. The staff here are amazing! Yes, you do have to wait because you gotta be triaged, just like any other hospital. But that is understandable, as you want the most severe cases to be taken first, even though it feels like torture waiting. No one wants to lose their animal, and everyone here is doing their best to save them all! I truly thank Dr. Laura and Dr.Lea, Heather and Tatum, along with all the staff members who worked tirelessly to make sure Maisey made it through. You are all so caring and Maisey is still with us because of your help, we greatly appreciate you all

Just past midnight, the day after Christmas, our beloved 17-year-old dog had a massive seizure. Scared and not knowing who to call in the middle of the night during a holiday, my husband reached Wilvet. We brought our dog in and were met with capable and compassionate professionals, who helped calm our frightened dog. Ultimately, we had to make the extremely hard decision to say goodbye that night. We were given a private room and all the time we needed. I cannot thank Wilvet enough for helping us during a truly traumatic experience. The receptionist and doctors were excellent and showed our tearful family great compassion and care. We could see their gentleness with our dog too, and that made all the difference.

This is how they handed me the puppies

Not even worth the 1 star I had to give. My dogs lost her puppies because they were more focused on collecting every dollar before performing a life threatening C section for my little girl and her babies. The first out of 3 babies was side ways not at all in a birthing labor position to deliver. When I rushed my little girl in there she was already delivering the placenta with no signs of the baby getting delivered. And because of their Un empathetic feelings knowing the other 2's babies heart rates were dropping and the risk of my little girl going into distress they would not budge til the 2nd half of what was owed done to the last .55 would they perform the much needed surgery now my little girl knows there is something missing from her life when she was pregnant and knows there should be babies somewhere. I had to introduce her deceased babies to her so she could somehow have closure and stop searching frantically for them. O yeah, once you lose all the liter that they so heartlessly don't care one bit about they give them to you in a nice zipper envelope to dispose of yourself. Thought that was very generous of them at least to show the momma who has no control over the situation here's your dead babies. I wished I would have taken her straight up to the Dove Lewis hospital in Portland. They would have gotten her right back and dealt with the charges after, just like a emergency ( thats why its critical its an EMERGENCY) dept would do and we would have puppies to bring home.

    It was a good life!

As long as I live I will never forget the care and compassion shown to me and my dog Izzy at Wilvet. Three vets separately talked with me at length clearly explaining what was going on with my dog who previously been diagnosed as having only a bacterial infection compounded by colitus though she in fact, had cancer. They confirmed this quickly and professionally. They handled everything from the euthanasia process down to an easy referral to a creamation business. They actually listened to every one of my concerns and answered the questions I asked of them. They explained what tests were what down to reasons for the order they were in. Even the financial details were explained thoroughly. I actually experienced moments of joy during a horrendous, heartbreaking experience thanks to every single wonderful individual I communicated with at this hospital.

Wilvet of Salem is not only convenient with being 24 hours, but it also makes it much easier to get my cats to the urgent care vet during emergency situations since I live out south. The people, I mean everyone I've encountered here (4 times now) are incredible. They have the hugest hearts. Today I lost my old man cat Maxwell (Maxy boy) to old age and they were there for me every single step of the way. Tears were shared and the last moments with my cat and having two fantastic vets who are so compassionate towards both Max and me. I am sad, I lost my best friend but I couldn't have asked for a better crew to walk to the rainbow path for Maxy.

My 22 year old son's little Buddy of the past 15 years was attacked by a large dog. We called our regular vet and he was just in surgery so referred us to Wilvet. What an amazing staff! Dr.jennifer Kalenius was so precous. Honest a wonderful communixater, and educated us completely on Buddys condition. It was a touch and go situation yesterday and she helped us through each moment, even when he and our family were faced the hardest decision of shall we move forward and put him through surgery after surgery... or let lil Buddy go .We were at home when we got the call with xray results, called the kids together ,took our other dog and the baby down and surrounded Buddy with the love of his family in those final moments. Thank you to each staff member that checked on us, helped Buddy with his wounds and comfort, and reception staff for all of your help too. RIP OUR LITE BUDDY.

If they use old information despite new and accurate information being provided when the appointment was made - then what kind of care will they provide? Not only did the wreak havoc on my afternoon- but now I'm up against a wall in getting care for my pooch before a three day weekend. When that is no longer the case and tough decisions need to be made, we had an excellent experience with Compassionate Care to say goodbye to our pup. Let me start by saying that every administrative and customer service interaction was timely, clear, and concise. The last thing you want in this situation are delays and confusion. Once I reached out through the contact link on their website, the email response with details about their different services happened within 10 minutes. An intake call to make arrangements for a euthanasia visit at our home was answered by a human and only took a few minutes. They recommend making a reservation 48-hours in advance, but we were put on a wait-list and we moved up our reservation when things opened up. I appreciate that you can reschedule (with four hours advance notice) as well. They have a variety of services, Eco-friendly cremation, and memorial pieces. Everything was arranged in advance, including payment through their web portal, so when the vet arrived for the appointment it was all about our boy and his (and our) comfort. Dr. Wilson clearly walked us through the process, gave us time to say goodbye, provided options, and was a wonderful partner in the process. Cremation is done at a facility in N. Portland, but they have the option of picking up the cremains in Oregon City which was more convenient for us. Having gone through this experience with another pet where we took them to the vet's office, I would highly recommend this option for the pet's comfort. It just felt better saying goodbye in a familiar space surrounded by love.

After the teeth cleaning, they came back and said that our Porkie (Pomeranian/Yorkie) needs all her teeth extracted and that it would cost over $7,000. This is on top of the monthly payments, medications, and specialty food I purchased for her for weight control. I decided to get a second opinion because we definitely could NOT afford that price as senior citizens in their mid 70's. The new Clinic only removed a couple of teeth from her and charged me under $500. I called to cancel in November. The puppy was paid up on the charges, but I owed one more month, December, for the other one. I paid for the required December coverage, but it was then closed, and I had a new vet to take care of these little precious dogs. In January, I received a NEW BILL! The price was for $279.40, I still owed, they said. What? I paid for everything owed, including the price of the "Optium Wellness Plan," at the time of service. I did not have them bill me. They had me pay while I was in the clinic. I blame this company on its corporate business plan of ripping off the public, not on those who follow orders and do not use their intelligence to figure out the mistakes. VCA Pet Hospital on Commercial is far better than this hospital. The clinic I have moved to is Hoffmans on Lancaster, and they are fantastic, reasonable, and everyone is considerate and sharp in being able to help you and your pets receive excellent care. I never complain, but over the years it seems so many companies are ripping off the public, and it is time we say ..." NO MORE!"

This is a follow up review I wrote awhile back about Banfield and the way they treated (or didn't)…read moretreat my dog. I had (yes, I say "had") but I'll get to that, a beautiful Malamute/Husky (heavy on the Malamute side). We moved here and needed a new vet. I thought I could take the recommendation of of someone I thought I could trust but, oh was I wrong. I took her to Banfield to get her all signed up and meet the people she would be working with. Everybody seemed nice and helpful and she didn't give off any signs that anything was wrong, I should have been paying attention. When they weighed her they got her breed wrong, told me she was horribly overweight and wanted me to make an appointment to be checked up on after "Dr," had seen her. I tried to explain that she was a mixed breed but they blew me off. Then someone (I didn't know theír title and never learned who took the pets from here to there) came to get her and told me I had to wait; she was going alone. My baby came out and hid behind me (a behavior I had never seen before) and a person who identified themselves as a vet (no i.d., no proof of having graduated from a vetranariain school of any sort) told me my dog was massively overweight, told me a food I had to feed her and exactly how much and to come back in a month and she'd better have lost the weight. The years went by; some were good, some weren't, I reported every sign and signal the groomer gave me (yes, I trusted my groomer over my vet) but it didn't matter, they ignored me anyway. Then about 4 years ago things got really bad and despite my despairation, they still kept giving stupid advice, no advice, but the money kept rolling in for them. I asked people in Milwaukee, Keizer, New Jersey, for gosh sake! Then by a miracle, I got a recommendation right here. I took the first appointment they had open. People were awesome. They were surprised when I didn't get up to go with her so they said of course go with her. The technician was clearly labeled as such had started filling out her paperwork told me what a beautiful Malamute/Husky I had before I said a thing and then began to list some interesting facts about that mix. The x-ray (which had been taken down the hallway so I could see the whole procedure) was done and the vet (who was clearly identified as such and whose certificates and such were hung out in the lobby with everyone else who worked there) came to introduce herself, tell me what she thought about the vitals (technician with the facts had taken them) etc. As she was speaking, she put the film she had taken up, Her face changed as I looked at the film. I have studied enough anatomy and physiology to know what I was looking at, My baby girl's entire gut was full of cancer. My emotions: terror, sorrow, fear, and GUILT for letting this go on for HOW LONG? For me: as I said, guilt, horror, shock, pain in my heart, pain in my soul. 15 years, gone, because some idiots at Banfield couldn't do their job. They were speaking but weren't listening. I don't believe I've ever been so furious in my life. Then the surgeon (he had come down to talk to me too) said something to the effect of, oh well tomorrow was his day off but he'd come in anyway and see just what he could find. I believe I was lost in a fog until I went to pick her up the following day. Nobody looked good. They asked if I wanted to see what they had found; I did, Does anyone reading thís know what a 3 plus pound tumorous mass look like? I hope they let me put up a picture. I know some of you have fur babies who only weigh this much in total! Please don't take them to Banfield. The surgeon said he had taken all he could but if he had taken any more, she wouldn't have enough of a liver to survive. If the remaining tumors were fast, she had 3 weeks. If they were slow, 3 months. I gave her the best 3 weeks I knew how. She made it! I was ecstatic. I continued following all advíce and suggestions, 3 months came, looking good. Almost overnight everything went to hell. First, incontinence; I had 8 bowls of water in the house and 2 outside that I could barely keep filled. Then the food, she would only eat one type of canned food and that was only half a can a day. And watermelon cubes. Then the diarrhea every day, all the time. Then the loss of use of her back legs. They just went out from under her. She went over the Rainbow Bridge that night. I wonder if just one of those unnamed people at Banfield would have listened to me or bothered to learn about the breeds of animals they were "caring" for or done any damned thing except send me bills, my baby would still be alive, I had a talk with the surgeon. It could have been detected, it could have had treatments. If I hadn't KILLED her by taking her to Banfield. If you have a fur baby who is the light of your life, please, Please stay away from Banfield!
