We changed to Wimberley Vet last year after our former vet closed. I chose them because there are three vets instead of one. When our dog was acting sick they got us in same day I called. All vet's graduated from Texas A&M which is an excellent school. They treat large and small animals. Their staff is excellent as well! read more

They got with our vet from home and coordinated getting a new prescription for us right away. We didn't even have to go in. They called the meds to the local pharmacy. My dogs have been seeing Dr. Ferguson at the Wimberley Clinic for almost five years now. I tried a different vet one time, only because they were located quite a bit closer to my home. $500 later, that new vet told me my dog had a bladder infection, gave (sold) me some antibiotics and sent me on my way. I will never make that mistake again. The Wimberley clinic is well worth the drive. I feel like the prices are reasonable and I have been very comfortable with every diagnosis and treatment that Dr. Ferguson has provided. She seems very attentive to what I tell her about my dogs and with what they "tell" her about themselves. She explains treatment options and I can tell that she's aware that for most of us, money is a consideration, no matter how much we love our pets. read more

I took my dog in to address an arthritis concern and after a consultation and several lab test performed, the vet ordered two meds; one they had in stock and the other had to be ordered. I paid for them both and started my dog on the one given at the clinic. My dog actually got better within two days of administrating the first med. I decided to keep her on that one med since she improved significantly. The vet clinic notified me several days later that the second med arrived and I could pick it up. I spoke to the vet by telephone about only keeping her on the first med and she agreed, so I asked for a refund of the second med which I had not picked up. I was told that they would not accept the med back because it had been ordered specifically for my dog. I am unhappy with this clinics position not to refund me for the second med since I never picked it up and they can most probably use it sometime in the future for another dog patient. This vet clinic has lost a potentially satisfied customer. read more

I don't normally like taking time to write reviews, but after a recent scary experience with my cat I really wanted to make a mention to this business! Consistency, Caring, knowledgeable, prompt and friendly are only a few of the words that describe this clinic! I could go on but basically I would highly recommend Dr. Mike Sheffield and his staff for their outstanding service that they have provided for my cats. Claude (Maine Coon cat mix) had an intestinal obstruction which would have no doubtably killed him if it weren't for their very quick diagnosis and insistence that we move quickly with surgery and not mess around with a wait and see. This all transpired over a weekend and required 3 days of post op care. After I brought Claude home the clinic followed up with me daily for a week to make sure his recovery was moving along smoothly. He is back to his old self and eating with no problems! I have had various other health issues with my other cats over the past few years and every time I needed their service I was always satisfied with the results. Their fees are also very reasonable compared to other clinics I have heard of from my other pet owner friends from around the Austin area and elsewhere. My niece in Austin went through the same surgery with her cat and ended up with a bill costing her twice what I paid. I have never felt their fees were unreasonable and believe me when I say that I'm not flushed with cash! Thank you Dr. Sheffield and your team for the outstanding service you have provided for my cats. I'm new to the area and have 2 cocker spaniels that both developed problems during my move. I was able on a Sunday night fill out all the New Patient information on line before ever even calling for an appointment on Monday. Very helpful! Dr Ferguson treated one dog the first week for tumors and Dr Sheffield treated my second dog the following week. BOTH Dr were professional and attentive to my dogs issues while trying to figure out what was wrong. The staff is fantastic and new me when I went in or called. They all genuinely cared about my pets. They have Andre who they call the animal whisperer and Brian who both care about small animals. Jacquelyn answers the phone and is a delight. They also were mindful of my finances and helped me along the way decided what was important to spend my money on and what could wait. I had read the reviews for both The Wimberley clinic and the Cypress Creek clinic prior to deciding to go with The Wimberley Veterinary Clinic. They have our business from now on. read more

The front-desk staff here was great. I walked in and was greeted well. Not to mention, the office is very clean and well-kept; However, this rating is receiving 2-Stars because I left confused and without the heart-worm medicine I went to pick up. Before heading over to their office, I called to make sure I could pick up some heart-worm medication for my dog, Willow. I came from out of town and didn't want to take Willow to the lake without having the proper preventatives. After waiting for about 30 minutes for paperwork to be faxed over, Dr. Sheffield approached me and told me that they could not sell to me because it was "against the law." My response was, "Oh no. I wish I could have known before I waited about half an hour." He responded with a short and defensive, "Sorry. That's why we encourage everyone to stay on top of their medications." When I left, I called my vet to see what had happened and they told me Dr. Sheffield's office had called them to cancel the prescription that they were waiting for because they no longer needed it. I wouldn't suggest to go here if you're from out of town. It's just a waste of time. Might as well enjoy yourselves and get your dog treated when you go back home. read more

Took my girl for a post labor check up and was APPALLED to find out my nursing dog had been vaccinated without consent, and without receiving records (we were already working on getting them from prior owner/vet as wimberley vet asked upon arrival and not in our several previous texts leading up to birth.) It hasn't even been 24 hrs since she had her puppies and this visit really stressed her out. Not to mention the "doctor" all but THREW the box of puppies down when my husband expressed irritation with how this visit was handled. "Doctor" also recommended we bottle feed one puppy to make it "easier" for mom & accused us of malnutrition. I can't express enough how much I would NEVER EVER EVER recommend this vet to anyone. It was after hours and my 17 year old dog was on her last leg. She had stopped breathing for about a minute then started gasping for air, obviously struggling. I called the after hours service, told them the situation, they said they would pass it on to the dr and I would get a call within 15 min. Never receiving a call, I called them back. Still nothing. We took her to a vet in Kyle, luckily they were still open. One hour and 10 min later the Wimberley dr finally contacted me but it was way too late. Very unhappy. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Let me start by stating that the girls in the front of the office and the kennel techs are very nice, seem to care about animals, and truly make the veterinarian and senior staff there appear to be solid upstanding folks, but truly my OWN personal experiences tell me otherwise. Two scenarios occurred to me with these folks and I wish to share them both with the yelpers and readers out there that are trying to determine the quality of care at both the local animal hospitals in town, and this is the one I would NEVER recommend to anyone. First situation about three years ago - we had a draft horse that would not stand for his feet to get done by the farrier, so he had to be given large doses of ketamine to be knocked out for 15-20 minute to get his feet trimmed. We were new to the area, and our previous vet in LaVernia only charged about $120 for the ranch visit and the shot - we were shocked that the fee for the ranch call and the shot was over $350 from this vet. While Sheffield was at the ranch, we inquired about giving our mini a shot so we could snatch her and change her halter since she was a very skittish rescue with a deep fear of humans. He arranged to have a gentlemen he knew come out to the ranch and fire a tranquilizing dart at the little mare- which did not even put her the least bit into any type of tranquilized state - we ended up just cornering her and putting a lead on her so the halter could be changed. For this 1/2 hour exercise he charged over $500.00 - and even up-charged his friend with the gun over $100 just for making the arrangement - and when it was over my lovely spouse thanked them all and when she went to shake his hand, Dr. Mike Sheffield used this opportunity to FULLY EMBRACE MY WIFE IN A LARGE HUG AND EVEN PRESSED HIS CROTCH INTO HER- right in front of me!!! You talk about unprofessional and unethical behavior!!!! I mean really? WTF?? It was all I could do to not call the Veterinary Board on him , both for the excess and almost criminal fees and charges and the blatant sexual advancements to my wife of 20 years!! Second episode- this past spring my George got into a play tussle with my dominant female Catahoula and got his ear cut- so I rushed him down to the street to the Vet Clinic as I was working, and needed something close. Well $192 and three stitches later, I picked up George and noticed by the time I got him home, a quick 5 minute ride, that he was still bleeding from the wound, and two of the stitches had come untied. So i cleaned up his ear, and watched more and more blood ooze from the wound. My wife and I used super glue to close the wound, and covered it with medical tape and it healed in about two weeks- now 6 months later and no scar - and I am so done with this vet office and Dr Mike Sheffield in general. Do yourself a favor and call Cypress Creek - Dr Young is a gem and has great bedside manners....and as far as I know won't grope your spouse in your presence. read more

My boyfriend and I were in Wimberley for his birthday this past weekend. We brought my 2-year-old chihuahua/shitzu mix along with us. He has seasonal skin allergies that decided to flare up in a monster rash. Even though we arrived ten minutes before they were officially open, Sidney came out the front door with a big smile and said, "Y'all come on in!" Everyone there was friendly and genuinely interested, and Dr. Ferguson is very obviously passionate about what she does and loves animals. She spent quality time with him/us, talked extensively about options, and was playful and loving with my little guy! She sent us off with Prednisone, antibiotics, and a HUGE smile! Just a couple of tourists driving through town. Stopped here and asked where the dog friendly spots were. The people that work here are unlike anything I have ever seen. They are amazing. They told us where to go and they even printed us a map to a local vineyard that was dog friendly. We came back the next day to board our little pup while we went swimming in the blue hole and they were glad to have him for the whole day for a very low price. read more

The staff is nice, and we have heard great things about Dr. Sheffield, but we were not happy with Dr. Ferguson. We always felt like she would try to over charge us for unneeded procedures/medications every visit, and she did a procedure on our puppy that was costly and unnecessary. We found out from our new vet that all our puppy needed was, essentially, dog elbow pads, not two drainings, her elbow sliced open, and multiple medications. She wanted to do laser treatments on her as well after all of that?? Thankful we found a new vet who told us the truth and our girl is healthy now! read more

Dr. Sheffield and his staff are truly caring genuine people. He and Dr. Furgeson and the staff have all gone that extra mile for their clients. I am the local area wildlife rehabilitator and both doctors have been there to assist in saving wildlife when I need help. Those that are complaining about the prices it is real simple, you should always inquire about the cost before asking for the service if you are unsure. It is wrong to blast a company for their prices when you ask for the service and do not inquire the cost prior to the service. If any other "impropriety" was at all remotely true then any normal person would have immediately called the authorities and not jumped on Yelp. So, that being said, common sense would dictate that is not the truth. read more

They've done it again! Just when I thought this clinic couldn't get any better, the staff there never ceases to amaze me. My dog, Tex, is quite mischievous, and the other day he ate something in the yard that really made him pretty sick. (I'll spare the details.) I called the clinic, told them what was going on, and they allowed me to bring him in immediately!! No waiting, no hassle, nothing but a caring, devoted group of people who have their clients' needs at the forefront. Dr. Ferguson checked Tex out, administered what she knew he needed to get well, and we went home. He's doing fine now thanks to this awesome clinic. Just when I thought it couldn't possibly get any better, it did. I have taken our pets (2 dogs) to Wimberley Veterinary Clinic for many years. Sadly, we lost our dog Roscoe a few years ago; he was 14 years old and had many health issues, and Roscoe probably would have died much sooner had it not been for Dr. Sheffield and his stellar staff. I've lived all over the state of Texas, and I can honestly state without reservation or hesitation that the Wimberley Vet Clinic is the epitome of what a animal health care facility should be. Drs. Sheffield, Ferguson, and de Vries are absolutely fantastic!! Happily, we adopted a WAG dog we named Tex 3 years ago, and Tex has seen all 3 doctors; I trust each one implicitly. Also, I would be remiss if I did not mention the wonderful staff assembled in this office, from the front desk to the vet techs, you will find no better people with whom to entrust your animal's care. I had an issue develop with Tex over the weekend, and I knew he would get the help he needed ASAP, and he did. This clinic is simply the BEST!! read more

0 stars brought my lab in there because he got his ear bit and they stiched it up. By the time we got home..2 miles and me sitting next to him his ear was already bleeding. I was a foster parent for a dog through wag and they spayed her. 2 days later stiches were out. Both dogs had to be brought to another vet and never got a refund from this vet. Each bill was over 200.00 because they said both dogs needed all of these different things. I DID NOT give them permission to do anything except stich. I don't go there for that reason and because the vet puts his hands on me and that to me is very unprofessional. I don't let strange men hug me. read more

WELL.... I brought my 3 dogs here. wow...... when the vet Mike walked in to greet me, he hugged me. ewwww. What gives any man the right to think that a woman wants to be touched by a man she doesn't know. I was so offended that I almost left. He diagnosed one of my dogs with a medical condition and by the time I left my bill was over 800.00!!!! Sweating from the stress of being in a small room ALONE with this man was frightening to say the least. Finally done and out to the counter I went to pay. While waiting for over 10 minutes I saw this vet mike approach 2 other ladies and started rubbing their backs. they were flattered. (seniors). Because of his behaviors I decided to take my one dog to another vet down the road. I explained to the other vet what vet mike had diagnosed my dog with. He shook his head. after 20 minutes and blood work done my dog was MISDIAGNOSED. The prescription dog food he was put on did more damage then good. He is allergic to corn which was in the dog food that they had talked me into buying. my poor little guys stomach was bloated and he was so sick. I changed dog foods and he's doing great now. I wouldn't bring a cricket to this so called vet! read more

I took my dog to Dr. Sheffield because our other vet wasn't taking her symptoms seriously and she was so sick that she couldn't stand up. Dr. Sheffiled is the most thorough vet I've ever met! He immediately discovered she had a tumor in her intestine and performed emergency surgery on the spot, which literally saved her life. His entire staff is super sweet and my dog never appears to be afraid when she's in his office. He always takes his time and answers all of our questions. Within one week, my dog is acting like a puppy again. I would highly recommend Dr. Sheffield for both vet and boarding services. Dr. Mike and his staff are the GREATEST! I couldn't ask for a better vet that loves my Laney Lu as much as I do. I have used this clinic for years and every time I go I am treated with respect and shown that they love and care for my Lu as much or more for her well being as I do. I have even been there when WAG was there and seen how the staff and Dr. Mike care for the homeless furbabies. We are stationed in Amarillo Tx right now and have been for months and I won't take my baby to any vet up here I will travel the 10 hours it takes for her to see Dr. Mike and his staff. I even board her there because I know that she will be taken care of just like at home while I am gone. Words can not express the feelings I have for this office and there is no rating that I can give really because it doesn't go into the trillions.
