This place is a total dump... I don't think their veterinarians' certifications are even current. I took my pet to this clinic because Emancipet mentioned them to my when I inquired about a full service vet clinic that may charge reasonable fees... It was a MAJOR letdown. My pet and I were placed in a dingy, unkept, depressing room with an IV bag mostly emptied and the needle (yes, needle, not an IV catheter) still hanging on the end of the tubing... They literally didn't even clear the room from a previous visit... My cat was terrified and the service was cold and detached! The vet tech took the vitals (rectal temp) and then stuck that thermometer in a glass with alcohol, the amount of alcohol barely touched the tip of the thermometer! THAT'S the "disinfection" process there, I guess! Then the vet showed up, listened with a stethoscope and palpated with his hands for a total of 2 minutes! Then declared that he felt a "ball" in the intestines and we needed an X-Ray and bloodwork - for $400. I asked how the lungs sounded and he said "the lungs are quiet". WHAT? That's not a medical term for lung sounds and I literally brought my cat because of a breathing issue... I know his lung sounds were anything but quiet! Biut this vet focused on the "ball" he felt and said it could be a tumor! I refused further testing at this clinic and we checked out. I paid my money and couldn't drive away fast enough. I made an appointment with another vet the same day, wanting another opinion. When this vet contacted Pet and Bird Clinic for the record of our visit just a few hours ago, they received a blank record! My cat's weight and temp were not recorded at all and there were no notes and no findings recorded! They literally SCAMMED me! The vet at a different clinic definitely did not feel a "ball' in my cat's belly and most definitely noticed my cat's labored breathing and heard abnormal wheezing upon auscultation of his lungs. We had a much better experience elsewhere and I do not recommend this clinic to any pet owner. Your pet deserves better. read more

I took my girlfriend to this veterinarian as her small dog had an abscess in his mouth and she wanted to get it checked out, the front desk staff we spoke with were very friendly we had no issue with them, the vet however was a different story, on the paper work my name was not even listed as it is not my dog whatsoever, i was simply the driver, throughout the entire process the vet that was seeing us was incredibly sexist and basically ignored my girlfriend the entire time, i had to push her to ask him questions as for some reason he seemed so intent on giving me all of the information, i do not recommend this vet whatsoever as other reviews ive read have seemed to have an even worse experience than we did read more

As I walked in the receptionist had her legs up on the chair, very relaxed for work I might say. She didn't greet us and stared at us silently. I went to get my Cat chipped (which is $55) and they tried to charge me 110 for the chip and an exam...I called to let them know I was just going to get him chipped but the small Mexican girl stated, she wasn't listening and didn't hear that and then proceeded to charge me $25 for the call making the total $80 and stated, we don't get calls for just chipping. Like it is an animal clinic, right? Just be careful of her, always ask for the amount over the phone, because she might try to charge you for something you didn't get. read more

Just to start off, I wanna say I never leave any bad reviews for any place, but this time I really have to say something because the level of unprofessionalism here is so unacceptable that they should be shut down. I took my puppies today for a vet visit for 2 different reasons, one was because she was developing cherry eye and the other puppy just needed his ears cleaned after an ear crop. The doctor that attended us, which he didn't even bother to introduce himself (he was black and tall with a little accent) came in and started off by asking where we had taken our pup to get his ears cropped. We explained that he had got his ears cropped before we got him and his answer was "well what do you want me to do". We told him that we just needed him to clean the stiches and change the bandages but right off the bat he grabbed the pup and ripped the bandages so hard the puppy started crying. He didn't even bother to put on gloves or anything, knowing that the stitches could get easily infected. Then he grabbed him by the skin from his neck and started rubbing the ear so hard with a cloth and some liquid and the puppy started crying so bad it made my heart drop. All this just for him to not clean the ear good since he left a lot of dried up blood and just for him to make my puppies ear bleed a lot again. Then whenever he went to check my other pup for cherry eye (which is just her left eye) he said that they usually develop cherry eyes on both sides and this unprofessional piece of person, started poking her other eye just so the other eye would get Cherry eye as well and i had to pull his hand away from my dog just so he would stop and he even got mad. Not only this, but he said surgery is 1,500 for one eye and he was trying to get the other gland out of her eye just so he could charge us 3,000 for both! (We are definitely not doing any surgery done here ever) I'm am honestly so enraged because I don't understand how in the world this place is still not shut down. All they care is about money and they don't even care about your pets. After he left I asked the girl that was in the room with us if he was always usually like this and all she said was that he was just "old school"... yeah no. He's just an awful human being that doesn't care about animals, and if he did all of this while we were in the room, I can't picture what he does to the animals when nobody's watching. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you love your pets never in the world take them to this place. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with any business, and I am just sooo disgusted I can't even put it into words. I hope that you read this review and reconsider it if you were planning to bring any of your pets here. It's much better to spend a couple bucks more for the well being of your pets than to come here just to make everything worse. read more

Do not take your pet here!!! Just to clarify- this is the first yelp review I've ever wrote, that is how strongly I feel about this. This was my first time taking my dog here for a dental cleaning. I called to clarify a quote ahead of time, and then the day of her appointment I asked what it would cost for extractions. I was told anywhere from "$5-$200" and she said so it could be upwards of "$600 total." I said that was a large range and to please call me before they did anything. They called me and said she needed "some teeth to come out" because "a couple were really bad" so I said that was okay. To clarify- my dog is older so I expected so teeth needing to come out. When I went to pick her up, they told me they took out 16 teeth! Not once did to have a conversation with me about this number or why they were taking out this amount of teeth. The vet didn't even come out to talk to me when I went to pick her up, just the girl in the front who was insanely incompetent. Also, when they gave me the medication for her, they had marked all of the suggestions for use of when to give it to her. Just so many things that were terrible. My biggest issue was their extreme lack of communication, it felt sneaky and not forthcoming when I asked for quotes of cost and numbers several times, and extremely impersonal with no explanation from the vet at all. I took my two-month-old kitten a few days ago because he was sick, I honestly evaluated bringing him here because of the bad reviews this place has, however was the only veterinarian who had an appointment for the same day. When I arrived, I explained that I was coming because my cat was sick the receptionists made me fill out a form with information and vaccines about my cat. Upon entering the consultation the "doctor's assistant" (in my opinion that's what he was) wanted to give my cat a vaccine without first telling me what it was for, I asked him and his answer was: You came here for this vaccine, it's the FVRCP. I didn't go to the place for that vaccine, I understand that cats can't be vaccinated with that vaccine without being healthy. I took my kitten for a check-up and treatment for the disease he had, a cold. However, the receptionist and that person were very insistent that my cat receive that vaccine which I did not ask for, I explained to them more than 3 times that I was only there because of my cat's disease. I was about to leave since it was not possible to have a conversation with them until Dr. Patel appeared, the story changed. The doctor was very good with my cat and gave me the reason that a sick cat cannot be vaccinated. He and a very kind lady who also showed up helped me with what I requested that's why I give the 3 stars. If you go, ask for Dr. Patel, the other people seem to be uninformed. read more

I have taken my dog here once. when clipping his nails they pulled his leg back so hard and fast that they pulled his muscle and he walked with a limp the next 2 weeks. okay, fine. I call today and it's clear the receptionist picks up the phone and puts it on hold without ever even greeting. I sat on hold for 5 minutes and hung up and called again. this happened 7 more times. i then started calling every 20 seconds until someone would greet my call and she gave me attitude immediately. I asked if I could make an appt and before I could even get my words out she spoke over me and said no we are booked in a rude tone. Very disappointed with this place. Yeah they're "cheap" but as the cliche goes "you get what you pay for!" Dr Mekonen or something like that came into the room where I was with my cat in cat carrier. Of course my cat is hissing and I opened the door to the carrier.....you know what this so call VET said.....leave him in there I don't want him to bite me. even. i had a horrible experience with this vet today. i came to drop off my dog at 7 in the morning because she needed to be put to sleep for her appointment. i pick up my dog at 4pm and she popped all over herself and she had so much anxiety because she needed to pee so bad. they left my dog in a cage filled and smeared with poop for almost 9 hours. i had to throw away her toy because it was had feces all over it. unacceptable i will not be bringing my dog back! please be careful with what type of people you leave ur pet with! read more

I called and made an appointment to get my puppy spayed and was surprised I was able to get in the next day. I tried other places around town and they were booked up. I checked my own vets office but it would've cost 3 1/2 times the cost as what I paid here. When I took my puppy in for the appointment the next morning, I discovered I contacted the wrong branch and I had made an appointment for the Wells Branch location. However, the South Branch worked us in and I was still able to get my puppy spayed that day. I was very impressed they were so willing to accommodate me. Most places would've just said I'm sorry, but you can book a future appointment if you'd like. I opted for the pain injection, which replaces the need to administer pain medication over a couple days following the procedure, that was was a nice option too. My puppy's surgery went went really well and her incision looks good. She was back to her normal self by the next morning, licking my face to wake me up If you need your pet spayed or neutered, I'd highly recommend this place. There was one other really thoughtful feature this office had that I noticed when I picked up my puppy that I have never seen at another vet office. They had a sign and a candle (which was lit) that asked people to please keep voices down when they see the candle lit as someone was there saying goodbye to their pet. I went in with my parrot and the doctor just put a towel over the cage and said it's aggressive and he doesn't see anything wrong with it. Our visit was because the parrot wasn't eating or drinking and the vet just said "I don't know what you want me to do he looks fine". After reading all the comments on Yelp I realized it's good we didn't processed with the blood drawing or anything because the vet looked so bothered and annoyed that he had to attend to a bird. It was a quick 5 min visit for $55 for him to just say he didn't know what to do. Our dog needs monthly shots and they raised the prices by over 150% ($59 to $159) citing an "error on their end in billing." We have had horrible experience with the unkind vet doctors that both work there. I asked questions on my dog's condition and results and was given none only use this buy this. It seemed that they would get upset at the staff if i asked them for more information on my dogs skin condition or lab results and why do we need to buy this medications he was stating our dog needed that was it. I was very uncomfortable on how we were being treated and very disappointed. Also I have sent over medications for refills from my pharmacy of choice through pets mart , chewy.com and Patel denies it with no information on why he denies it and wont let us get our dogs allergy meds as he is suppose to take daily he approved an antibiotic but wouldn't approve his allergy med which makes no sense and its so ugly and rude of him our dog is suffering cause he wont approve it and its what we can afford they are too much at their office for only 15 pills. Please don't go there its not a good vet office to go to and they both are rude doctors and don't want to communicate important information and treat their staff like shit in front of us customers so this is why they are always having change of staff always having turnover! read more

I would rate lower if an option. They lost my cat. He was to be sedated for shots and they let him get out of kennel prior to sedation. After decades of spending thousand of dollars on my multiple pets the clinic still give us hassles to pay and to simply obtain a prescription to get needed prescriptions from other more affordable sources. They nickled and dimed customers to dry. The services are minimal with very careless support from staffs. Admin people never answer call, immediately put on hold for long periods, and never follow up, response as expected. Thanks God we never had such nerve wrecking anguish like other pet parents in case of emergency need. They pressure you to get heart worm test and vaccines multiple times within a year. Every time I call, I get placed on hold 4 times then get hung up on. What really bites is we love love love love the Vet! He's been the same Vet to our animals for 14 years. The bad part of this clinic is they never answer the phones timely. We always have to wait (what seems like) 30 minutes. I wish they handled their incoming phone calls better. Ive taken my very ill dog here multiple times to try to figure out why hes vomiting multiple times every single day. Spent hundreds on visits only to be told to have him go grain free and that oh, hes just going to be like this now because hes old. The doctor would constantly talk over me when i would describe symptoms, even when i brought a video of my dog choking and wheezing and the doctor insisted it was allergies then gave me nothing to help him with it. I took him to an emergency clinic one night to have him put down because i was tired of him suffering. They convinced me to let them have a look. Their location on Ben White is a no frills office. The staff is usually very busy with clients or on the phone. That being said, this is my vet office of choice. Dr. Patel, a very no nonsense veterinarian, took care of our little girl for over 16 years. In her last days, he was very honest and caring. He could have led us down a very expensive care path which, selfishly, would have extended her life by a few months. This would have also made them alot of money. Instead, he gave us his advice on humane treatment. Our little Nina passed peacefully and, hopefully, not in pain. We've since adopted a little dog when our neighbor died of cancer. Took my gentle jack russel in because her big toenail had been ripped and was hanging. Needed to be pulled. First thing they did, is put a muzzle on my baby before they even examine her. Vet came in look at her toe told the helper to hold her tight and yanked the toenail off! She loudly yelp, I screamed it was so painful that she had a bowel movement that just sprayed behind her. He told helper to hold her tight so he could examine if he had gotten the whole nail off and then he showed me the half an inch he had pulled without no painkiller administered. They were holding her so tight from her neck and laying on topofcher and he was yelling at her to stop. I still can hear her painful howl. Never again I have other dogs that I have taken to vets. I've been taking my boxer here for 14 years, and the boxer before her another 7 years. Costs are about the same with other skilled veterinarians, along with heartworm pills. She did need a toe amputated and that became her weaker leg when she became older. Dr Patel did an excellent job. When the boxer refused to wear a cone and I devised a sanitary walking leg, Dr. Patel said "good work" and allowed the boxer to heal. He gave advice over the phone knowing my dog so well. She developed an allergy at an older age and he stated she was in no pain and gave her another chance to go home. When I knew she was in pain, he immediately scheduled her that day to put her down most humanely. I knew he had to make room in his schedule for her. I believe that she lived 14 years because of Dr. Patel. Most of my boxers could not make 10. read more

I wanted to get my puppy spayed and the lady on the phone told me they are having a big discount and it was going to be only $95. I then asked for pain medication for after the treatment. She said it would be an extra $35. She told me I would pay $130 total. I agreed to that cost. When I came to checkout after the surgery, the lady tells me I owe $230. I said, "what the hell, why are you charging me an extra $100?" She said because my puppy was in heat at the time. I was NEVER told this on the phone, otherwise I would have taken my business elsewhere. They refused to give me back my dog until I paid the full $230. This is NOT ethical business! I do NOT recommend taking your pet to this vet. So not only did I lose my discounts that apparently I was supposed to receive, I had to pay full price and then extra on top of that. We did have to go back in to have them check her stitches and they were great. She loved everyone! Wasn't even afraid to back to the "place that hurt her." About a year ago a groomer found a scab believed to be ringworm so I took to dr Patel to check. He completed a skin scrape which left my pet bloody and it looked painful. Dr Patel stated It was due to his allergies which he'd been being treated for on kenalog for almost two years. About four weeks ago he started trembling and when I told dr Patel he was running a fever he stated dogs temperature than humans. He was degrading quickly. I took my pet a total of three times in two weeks. And the only answer was it was his allergies and the kenalog steroid no longer working. By this point I was bringing him water feeding him by hand to little success. I even asked if my dog was passing because he looked so bad and sick I took him in again for a blood test which showed high white blood cell count which could be his body attempting to fight the infection and anemia and was told to feed him liver which was so difficult since he was no longer eating. Finally in the fourth week of his fast degrading I took him to another vet where within 10 minutes and the tiniest of a scrape that could barely be seen she confirmed he had yeast and staph and MITES which could all be treated. Possibly the mites even caused the secondary skin infection I was provided so many supplements to assist with his anemia and iron assistance nutrical to help him intake calories and help his appetite a shampoo antibiotics and a dip for the mites. My pet was at his lowest at this point. On day two of his antibiotics my pet passed this morning. I do not know what happened here. I do not wish to blame but I am so upset the mites were not found sooner to provide a dip. I admit my pet may have had allergies and a low immune system but the scabies caused by the mites and the secondary skin infection staph could have all been prevented had a dip been administered or provided. I called dr Patel to advise him of my pets passing and when I expressed my sadness and concern as to why he allowed this to be present on my dogs skin without assist he stated I declined the secondary skin scrape which I had, because I'd seen the nasty gash they had caused the first time to complete the skin scrape and dr Patel had also advised he didn't think it was mites seeming unconvinced which then led me to not want to put my pet through that pain and he kept saying it was allergies which caused the yeast and staph. If mites were considered and the scrape been recommended I would have agreed id have been ecstatic for an answer as to what was happening to him. Canine Staph was never explained as to the importance of keeping everything clean and washed daily in hot water with bleach due the the ease of recontamination no guidance was given. I feel I was constantly begging for an answer other than allergies in which none were given till it was too late. I have lost my love and best friend and I feel this all could have been helped. His last four weeks of his life were heart breaking to watch. I loved him and tried all I could I wish dr Patel could have found the mites. Please seek a secondary opinion if you get a "it's allergies" as answer at another vet. I unfortunately trusted dr Patel till the end please don't do the same. read more

I am not one to leave reviews and I've had to wait to leave this one to make sure I'm at least a little cooled off. I would give a negative rating if I could. Less than 2 weeks after starting to raise chickens, a hen's eye started bulging. I took her to the vet ASAP. This vet barely looked at my chicken and told me her eye tumor was cancer, not contagious to my other chickens, and sent us on our way. No test of any sort was done. I took her home and let her live out her days. I found out from a knowledgeable chicken person about 2 months later that it was actually coccidiosis, which is a respiratory disease, treatable, and highly contagious to my other chickens. My hen did NOT have to die! (Appointment 2/18/30) I found too much blood in the coop on two different mornings. I was concerned it was a different hen who was a new layer. I made an appointment late on Thursday for the following Saturday (chicken vet not available that evening or on Friday). I arrived for the appointment and was impressed with their procedures related to COVID-19. After being taken into the room, the vet ended up telling me he would not see my chicken ... that they aren't seeing chickens. WHAT?! Why did your office staff tell me when the chicken vet would be at the office and make the appointment?! Thanks so much for wasting my time. Oh, and he told me he wouldn't charge me. I wanted to say, "I wouldn't pay if you tried to charge me." (3/28/20) While at the second appointment waiting to go back, a couple was waiting in the front area. Next thing I know, a door to the back of the office opens and a small dog not on a leash runs out of the back and straight out the front door that was open. I personally have only taken my dog here twice but my boyfriend has been taking his dog here since 2009 so I figured I would give them a chance.... I had a quote to have my dog's teeth cleaned for almost $1,000 but here they quoted me for about $200. Her teeth look so much better and her breath has improved! I also brought my dog here for a bump on her arm that would not go away, they took care of that and she is good as new now. This is a no frills kinda place, if you want your dog taken care of without the extra cost, I highly recommend it. read more

Placed on hold twice for 6 minutes both times then hung up on, I called back anyway made the appointment for my cat to get neutered, I was called the day before and told drop off time starts at 7am , I took off from work to get my cat there on time, I got there right at 7am unfortunately it was still closed , One of the employees showed up around 7:10 , after picking my cat up I went straight home took him out of his carrier turned him around only to see he was covered in his own blood. read more

To start, how welcoming and friendly the front desk staff is; they immediately greet you and your pet from the first walk in the door. This clinic is very busy but very much expected because of the amazing service they give. My keke feels so welcomed and loved there. Dr. Mekonnen is phenomenal, he's very to the point; which I love. He's not afraid to get in there, treat and help your animal. He's done all of my dogs surgeries, i have no idea why I would go anywhere else. An appointment was scheduled for 5:30pm. My partner left work early, and took our frightened cat down to the office only to be told the doctor already went home. No phone call was made beforehand to save us time and energy. The office staff was rude and unapologetic. It's really sad they have no consideration for people paying them to do services. read more
