Today I came to Win Nails for my very first time with a friend. I was really surprised that there were only 2 women working and only 1 other customer. They weren't too busy. But, because there were only two employees there was a bit of a wait. We told them we could come back, but they urged us that they had time. The women work really hard and I feel badly giving a negative review, because the main issue was the lack of staff and support. It took over 2 hours from start to finish for a mani/pedi and by the end I was so ready to go that I didn't even fully finish my nails. Once your hands and feet are partly painted you're sort of stuck (which may be on purpose). By the time I left, my nails were not the color I wanted, and my toes smudged, but because it had been so long and was past dinner time, with other people waiting, I was just ready to be done and go home. I used to frequent this place, but the last time I went there were old toenails and acrylic tips on the floor. They also wanted to charge me additional $10 because I wanted different colors on my nails for Easter. I guess the up charge was for opening an extra bottle. I recently went back to WIN and when I called to make an appointment with Nancy I was told she no longer worked there but they the could do a simple design. I asked specifically about a snowflake and was told they could do that. Not only was the person who did my nails unable to do snowflake (and used snowlfwke stickers), she was unable to do any designs and had to have someone else come do some candy cane stripes which were inconsistent and uneven. In addition, the quality of my gel builder manicure was not up to the standard set by Nancy. I was very disappointed with my most recent manicure here and will be searching for a new place once again. read more

Was in Friday for a regular pedicure and a gel manicure. I wish the colors on the sample matched the actual color. Not that big of a deal. Very disappointed that my polish didn't hold up a week. With it being the holidays this isn't ideal to have chipped polish. My pedicure usually last well over a month. I expect my gel polish to hold up a couple weeks. Actually tried this place a few months ago but it was a busy day and I ended up going elsewhere for a bit until I decided to try them again. Apparently I should've waited that first time, totally worth it. Kayla did such a good job, my hobbies are super hard on my nails and she made them look amazing. Their finish product selection is very diverse, and it was applied beautifully and the price was super reasonable, no need to go anywhere else from now on. Got Gel-X nails with Mai in early October. She did a great job finding the exact color I wanted and making the nail length and shape to my liking. However, the nails were not glued on properly as my hair would get caught in the base of nail and water would lodge in there. Today I got those nails removed and wanted a regular gel manicure. My experience with the nail tech Kathy was the worst I've ever had. She was clearly in a distracted, irritable state (although the place was near empty). She appeared to argue with her coworkers and was making phone calls while doing my nails. This prolonged the whole process and wasted my time. I told the nail tech (Kathy) that I wanted the exact same color as the last time I was there with Mai. She not only did NOT find the color, but she made a lazy effort to look for it when I complained and she got agitated with me and raised her voice. We settled on a color that was really NOT what I wanted but the closest from the options she gave me. I was VERY clearly disappointed with the color she picked and said so directly. Kathy was unfazed by my frustration and proceeded with the manicure. The color is not at all what I wanted and I am so frustrated that I paid $45 for this. Kathy made no attempt to fix the problem. Not only was the color wrong but she did a poor job cutting my nails, leaving one index finger longer than the other. When I pointed this out she said "I asked if you like this length and you said yes." As if liking the length means it's ok to have one be noticeably longer than the other.... Moreover, Kathy over relies on acetone and had my full hands soaking in it for 30 minutes. Most other places only soak the nail in acetone to avoid skin irritation. My skin in fact did get irritated and my fingers swelled up. Overall, I had an okay experience the first time I came and a really frustrating, bad experience the second time. I do like Mai and Jenny so I may be back in the future but I am very irritated with Kathy and her lack of professionalism. read more

I had a pleasant experience here getting a dip mani/regular pedi. The pedi was good. Toes look good! The water wasn't hot enough. The lotion massage on the legs wasn't firm enough. But that's ok! I don't know who did my toes but she should have asked if the water was hot enough or asked how I'd like it. But, my dip mani was perfection! Jenny did a great job! I highly recommend her. ***UPDATE, since the salon owner would like to call me a liar and leave a nasty response.....Please see attached photo of how my nails looked when I left the salon after 2 hours! Not to mention I not only paid for the unpainted set, but I also ASKED to pay because I wanted to ensure the technician was appropriately compensated and added an additional $15 tip so she would not be penalized because it was not her fault that management didn't provide the equipment or product needed to complete the manicure. I never leave reviews but this place needs to take some accountability.*** PLEASE BEWARE OF INCENTIVISED POSITIVE REVIEWS: I gave this salon a chance because I saw some recent positive reviews. However, after my NIGHTMARE experience I went back and realized these reviews were all incentivized with 20% discount. I went in for a Gel-X manicure and there was problem after problem starting with the cleanliness of the salon and tools. None of the tools used on me had been sanitized or taken out of new packaging which was my first cause for pause, however I continued on with an open mind. I showed the tech the color I was looking for and she picked a polish that matched. After 1.5 hours and 2 coats of polish I look and notice the polish was completely warped. The technician noticed the same and she said that the UV lamp was not working and she would need to switch it out for another and redo the polish. I was concerned that this meant that the glue also was not cured but they assured me everything was fine. After repainting for the second time, this time with a new UV lamp, the same issue occurred. The technician called out the manager/owner(?) to tell her what was happening. She told me that everything was totally fine...meanwhile my polish was completely uncured and warped. She then told me that it was because I picked an unpopular polish (mind you I did not pick the specific polish). She finally offered to redo the polish, however after 2 hours I had a meeting and did not have the time to sit for another 30 min while they tried again, with no guarantee things would be right this time. I was forced to leave the salon with unpainted nail extensions that I am unclear were correctly cured. The technician was kind, however the management and overall experience was not only a let down, but I am now left to make the time to find another salon, have this unpainted set removed, and get a new set put on...a complete waste of time and $$$$. Ultimately, it is the salons responsibility to ensure the product and equipment is in good working condition, and Win Nails refused to take accountability for their services and product. I will not be back and caution you as well. read more

I have been a client of Emma's, (the owner), for over a year now and she is phenomenal. Not only is she sweet and kind and generous, but she gives me the VERY BEST gel manicure I have ever had! I tend to have weak nails, and out of control cuticles. She works so hard to not only protect my nails, but gently remove the cuticle growing on the nail so that manicure never lifts. I just went 3 weeks, on a gel manicure!!! Her work is so stellar that I went from being a client of hers at a salon less than 10 minutes from my house, to now travelling 30 minutes to have my nails done by her. And, it's not just her. While she was away, her sister, Amy, (the other owner), took care of me, and as well, her work was fantastic. I am new to the area and so I reached out to the folks on the nextdoor app to ask what nail salons they recommended in lake forest. This place was recommended and I just left. This was the WORST manicure and pedicure I've ever had. I got a gel manicure and the gentleman didn't even paint to the edge of my cuticle/didn't even cut my cuticles... and there's a bubble on the tips of my big toes from using way too many layers (regular polish)!?!? I could cry it was so expensive, I finally decide to splurge and THIS is what I got. Will never return. **UPDATE HASNT EVEN BEEN THIRTY MINUTES SINCE I LEFT THE SALON AND THEY'RE ALREADY LIFTING! Taking it off now, also SHOULD NOT be this easy to pick off gel so quickly (last pic).** Another update! The manager both called me and messaged me on Yelp to apologize and to offer me a refund and to have my nails redone. To me, this says a lot about the character of the place and I can really appreciate that. Despite the efforts, I will not take advantage of her offer. For me, once I have a bad experience at a nail salon I cringe at the thought of going back and personally don't want to step foot in the place ever again. But I want to let people know that they clearly do care about the quality of service they're giving their customers if they're trying that quickly to make amends.
