Not sure about the quality of the dentist service in this office but the front desk lady who greeted customer in early morning on 3/2 (Mon) was very unhelpful or unfriendly. Customer shew the front desk the new Delta Dental HMO plan member card inquiring if the dental office would accept Delta Dental HMO. The front desk lady said she had no idea what that plan was because the Delta Dental HMO plan name was not printed on the member card. She said they accept HMO plans, but there are more than a dozen HMO plans that they didn't accept. Customer asked if she could call Delta customer service for the plan name based on the "Group #" on the card as a service provider. She refused to do so and insisted customer should find out themselves. Hope the business owner aware this matter. read more

For a year and a half attended Star Dental and can also confirm they are about fleecing their clients. Never got around to doing necessary work that needed to be done and concentrated to excess X-rays and cleaning. After $3,000 later and nothing completed I woke up to the fact I was being played. Disrespectful staff - I called this office today to inquire if they accepted my insurance and copay fees. The lady who answered my phone sounded annoyed at my questions and had one-word answers. Dr. Tchaga might be great for quick, routine cleanings if one's oral health and teeth are already in pretty good shape, but I would not recommend Dr. Tchaga for any dental work outside of cleanings unless you want to experience a lot of pain, a visit to an oral surgeon after having your teeth damaged at Star Dental, and a huge dental bill. Here's The Story: My mother was a loyal patient of Dr. Tchaga for several years until Dr. Tchaga attempted to "fix" a cavity in one of my mother's wisdom teeth (back molar). The major mistake on Dr. Tchaga's part was trying to do the work herself and not referring my mother to a specialist (e.g., endodontist or oral surgeon), as wisdom teeth can typically be problematic. Fast forward the long story: Dr. Tchaga worked on my mother's wisdom tooth (without informing my mother that it was a tricky wisdom tooth). After the work, my mother developed pain in her jaw (the same side as where Dr. Tchaga has worked). My mother ended up seeing an endodontist and oral surgeon to have that wisdom tooth extracted as her root had been damaged by the work Dr. Tchaga had done. When faced with the unknown I regularly depend upon Yelp. I chose Dr. Tchaga's office based on the reviews which proved to be very very wrong. Dr. Tchaga seems to be experienced, but I didn't like the service and the way I was treated the last two times that I went there. I made an appointment after having a very bad toothache. When I got there, she examined my tooth and told me it needs a root canal, but she doesn't have enough time to do anything for me cause my appointment was a short one and she has another patient to see... She only spent 5 minutes with me. So I had to stay in pain until the next day that she had a one-hour appointment. Had she told me this when I was initially made an appointment, I would have gone to another doctor and wouldn't have been in pain for an extra day. So make sure you ask about your appointment type when you make one! Secondly, on my last visit, I went there for a feeling but the height of the tooth was not right after the feeling was done. She tried to fix it a few times, but after a while she gave up and told me to come back in a day if you still felt the height is not right. I have had this situation many times in the past where the height of the tooth needed adjustment after feeling and I'm pretty sure if she spent another 5 minutes with me, she could have got it right. Now after two weeks I still feel that the height is not right, but I rather go to another doctor that has enough time for me! In general her work was ok, but I felt I was rushed and it seemed like if your appointment time is close to the end, she would not do anything for you even if you are dying from pain. read more

I brought in my 5 year old because of a toothache. We arrived late to our appointment due to some mishaps and were rudely turned away. There was no offer to wait for another opening, or to reschedule a new appointment. They just wanted us out of their office. Sure, we were late, but this is the worst "service" I've ever encountered. In addition, my crown which Dr. Tchaga worked on required 4 visits. They took two molds because the first set was wrong, so I had to endure another series of gum injections. My previous dentist was done in 2 sittings for a similar crown. I am currently dropping this dentist and looking for a new one. read more

I have used them for about 10 Years and am not intending to make the mistake of switching my dental care to any other place (I considered it and came back running) . I travel from San Francisco and that is quite a long way to go for a dentist. However, I believe, it's completely worth the commitment. I used Star Dental for over two years now. The overall quality of service for regular dental procedures I believe to be ok. I was patient of dr. Tchaga, and I cannot say anything bad about her. However, I decided to be dr. Tajadad's patient for alignments. And that was another type of experience. Over the coarse of two years I was constantly feeling neglected. She would always have more then one patient at a time sitting in the chairs and constantly running between the people. I believe the quality of service truly suffers, as she just cannot focus her attention. There was NEVER a single time that I would show up for appointment on time and NOT have to wait for at least 20 minutes. One time I had to wait ONE HOUR after my appointed time to be seen by her. Jesus, why set up appointments at all if you wont even be able to see a person at the time of appointment. So, if you decide to be her patient, schedule an appointment and show up 30 minutes late. Quite frankly, I'm surprised at the level of vitriol in some of these reviews. It seems like some of the one star reviewers actually had problems with their insurance companies, not with this dentist. I started going to Star Dental four years ago, and my experience has never been less than perfect. I chose Star Dental for my initial visit based on the high reviews that are now being "filtered" by Yelp. Over the past four years, Star Dental has probably had three or four front desk assistants. Even so, each one was helpful in finding and scheduling an appointment for me. Star Dental has a system where you are sent an e-mail and text message two days prior to your appointment, and you reply to confirm. It's a great reminder system. I have been treated by both Dr. Tchaga and Dr. Lazarov. Each time, the dentist cleans away tartar and does a rough polish his- or herself. Then the hygienist does the final polish. Each appointment has been very efficient, but the doctors do take the time to ask if you have any questions. It's as good an experience as a teeth cleaning can be. My advice? Give Star Dental a shot. read more

Dr. Tchaga is amazing! I have a fear of dentists and she was very accomodating to me. She walked me through the entire procedure and made sure I was at ease. She'd ask me periodically during the operation if I was doing ok. I have never felt more secure in a dentist's work and I have never been comfortable on a chair until I found her.I tend to believe that the people who said that she was rude to them are lying or work for a competing dental office or something. I simply cannot believe that such a kind and courteous person as Dr Tchaga could ever behave like that. Haters! Dr Tchaga works very carefully and I did not feel any pain or discomfort whatsoever. And, the equiptment she uses is top-noch so you can't really feel any vibrations or pressure during your procedure either. Her office has text message appointment reminders that you can sign up for. The space is extremely clean, modern furniture and fixtures. There is always calming music on, like smooth jazz. The waiting room has a comfortable sitting area with leather chairs, a TV and current magazines. Each patient station also has its own TV. True, her office is usuallly fully booked. So-plan ahead before you go. Also, make sure you arrive a bit early for the first appointment, since there's some paperwork to fill out. read more

BEWARE!! Dr. Chaga and her staff will attempt to fleece you. Below is how our conversation went: Me: "I'd like a second opinion on whether I need an onlay or a crown." Dr: "They're the same thing." Me: "I believe the onlay covers a part of the tooth whereas the crown covers the whole tooth." Dr: "Yes, but it doesn't matter for you." Me: "Why?" Dr: "It is my opinion. " *sits silently, confused* She continued to look at my mouth and said she found two more cavities. Then, she adds, "Your insurance might charge you for this second opinion. I think in my mind, "Why would she say that? The woman at the front desk called my insurance and told me they cover it, and I know they cover x-rays." I chose Dr. Tchaga based on the reviews and because Star Dental was listed under my dental plan, which is more limited in providers than a full dental PPO. Unlike some of the other reviews, I had no issues with the staff. They easily scheduled me after my first call, and then called again to remind me before my appointment. The visit itself went well. Since I was new, they did a full set of xrays. Then Dr. Tchaga came, discussed the xrays with me, examined my teeth, and then performed a cleaning. I like this place. Dr. Tchaga repaired my cavity with skill and speed, and her assistants did an excellent job taking X-rays and cleaning my teeth. Everyone in the lab and the office was pleasant and professional. I appreciate that Dr. Tchaga was upfront about potential costs before scheduling additional work. I have had a bad time finding a new dentist under my HMO, and so far I think Dr. Tchaga is the right fit. She was friendly, honest and very accommodating and put me at ease right away. I actually had a very easy time getting appointments to fit my horribly busy schedule and the cleaning was thorough but not painful. All of the staff were nice and not pushy or rude. Poorest service I've ever seen. I had an appointment at 2:00pm and was waiting from 1:30pm at the reception. I filled out all the forms, waivers etc. Dr. Tchaga's friend just walked-in and said she needs a check-up. Dr. Tchaga didn't want to talk to us. She just took her friend inside and started treating her. The receptionist said, the doctor is not taking any more patients for the day and asked me to book an appointment a couple of days later. When I questioned their process on handling patients, they said, mine was an emergency appointment and they had the right to cancel it any time. I wasted almost an hour sitting there and didn't have the check-up done. I took off the afternoon from work for this appointment. If I could, I would give "0" star rating for Star Dental. read more

I've only had two appointments with Dr. Tchaga, since I just moved to the area about 2 months ago. I was searching up dental offices that were in-network with my health insurance (BCBS PPO, in case anyone still browsing also has this plan), and decided to try out Star Dental due to their flexible hours and the multiple 4- and 5-star reviews on here. (Seriously, their hours rock. How many other dental offices do you know are open 11 hours a day? They're even open on Saturday, but understandably with limited hours -- be advised that Saturday appointments are only open to those who need specific work done, instead of a general check-up/cleaning.) Anyway, so far, Star Dental has been nothing but completely satisfactory for me. The first appointment was sometime last month, right before closing hours, so I was lucky and able to have Dr. Tchaga's sole attention. She was incredibly friendly and courteous, and answered all my questions patiently. Technically, I wasn't covered for a general check-up/cleaning until September, but Dr. Tchaga didn't mind at all and didn't even charge me for the brief visit. The second appointment (which was this morning) went very smoothly. (Star Dental sends appointment reminders via email, which is nice.) The office was super-busy, even at 8 AM, so I had a wait a few minutes but the staff made sure I was ushered in as soon as possible. (Not at all like my previous dental office, who didn't seem to care if you've been waiting half an hour past your appointment time.) I want to give props to Dr. Tchaga's staff, who are quick without being sloppy and very respectful of the clients. It seems like Dr. Tchaga runs a pretty tight ship! My dental hygienist did all the x-rays and polishing as gently as possible, which makes a huge difference if you're nervous around dental instruments, like me. She even put a pair of goggles on me to prevent any stray splashes from getting into my eyes. Then Dr. Tchaga did some final cleaning (the part with the sharp metal picks) and scrutinized my x-rays for any potential problem areas. I really appreciated that she remembered my name and the concern I brought up during my last appointment, even though she clearly has a lot of clients on her hands. Best of all, she didn't try to push me to purchase products from them that I didn't need (the way my previous dental office did). And the receptionists? They clearly know what they're doing. Mine checked how much my insurance would cover for a tiny filling I have to get, provided me with copy of a detailed cost breakdown, and asked if I wanted to make my next general cleaning appointment (6 months in advance). Then to doubly ensure I wouldn't forget, she confirmed my email so I can receive appointment reminders. Of course, personal experiences can vary, but in my opinion, you should at least give Dr. Tchaga the benefit of the doubt and go see for yourself. read more

Broken X rays machines which subjects to you to multiple X ray exposure just to get one X ray. Virginia Chaga insists that X rays are necessary so that she does not get "sued" by the clients, which does not makes sense because I signed a waiver form. This is just another trick to make money off of insurance. The scheduling and front desk personnel are horrible. I asked them to move my appointment so that my insurance can be effective by the appointment date. They instead waited until a day before the appointment and said that there is no appointment available for another month. Bottom line, Virginia Chaga simply does not care. read more

This week I had my first appointment at Star Dental for a routine cleaning. The change from my previous dentist was brought on by that never ending quest of our employers to cut their costs. I have been through well over 10 dentists in the greater bay area and I would say that this is the best quality cleaning I have experienced over my long history of dental woes. I brought a copy of x-rays from my previous dentist and I was in the chair undergoing the cleaning procedure within 15 minutes of my arrival at the office. I was assigned to Dr. Lazarov. I was expecting to be in the exclusive hands of the hygienist for my cleaning, but what I got was the team of both dentist and hygienist, with Dr. Lazarov performing the first level of cleaning and detailing by the hygienist. My cleaning was complicated by the fact that I have a brace on my lower set. 'Not optimum', I was told but you would never know by the results. Under promising and over delivering is always a great strategy. My new insurance coverage had issues so I ended up paying cash that I expect to be able to recover once I sort out the insurance coverage issues with my partners employer. Star Dental is offering a 30% discount for cash and another small discount on top of that for first time patients. Bottom line, the $69 charge was excellent value for the quality of work performed by dentist and hygienist. I would highly recommend this team to have your teeth cleaned with or without insurance. Dr. Tchaga is the best dentist we have ever had, since we started visiting this office years ago! Yesterday for example I almost fall asleep during whole new crown tooth preparation procedure because there was no pain or anything to bother me. As always, she has been doing these normally invasive dentist procedures so smoothly, thus there have been no negative experiences during most of the services we have gotten in her office for many years along. My family gives definitely and only a Five Stars rating for Dr. Tchaga. They are good and deserve it! Reading some of previous reviews we, surprisingly, saw few low stars rated reviews. I tried to make an simple teeth cleaning appointment for my daughter (who has dental anxiety). She's a new patient and the receptionist said the first appointment would take 1 hour for the exam and x-rays and they would NOT have time to do a cleaning. She would have to come back for a 2nd appointment for a cleaning. I simply can't imagine an exam and x-ray taking one hour - and having to come back for a second appointment leads me to believe that they think their time is more important than mine. No thanks. My experience with Star Dental and Dr Tchaga are the worst I have ever had from a medical provider. The office charges are exorbitant and she rapes both your insurance and you for shoddy work. I have a crown done by her that she wrestled with for a couple of appointments that obviously had a fit problem and was not done properly but she refused to admit it and proclaimed it was an excellent job. Meanwhile she discounted all the previous crowns I had done in gold as old school and inferior work, though most of them are 10+ years old and have never had an issue. Subsequently I went to another dentist with complaints about this crown and learned it is a piece of crap (at an outrageous price) and needs to be replaced. The real kicker is that my insurance won't cover a replacement crown on the same tooth for 5 years, so I am either out of pocket $1,200 or I have to live with the Russian plumber's job for another 3+ years. Recommended only if you have an unloved farm animal that needs a tooth extraction. read more

Called early this morning to get an appointment as a new patient. Never received a call back. I decided to call back to see if I could get thru. The lady that answered the phone was extremely rude. When I stated that I had called earlier and left a message about getting an appointment. She just answered by saying "yeah??" I then again proceeded to say do you have anything available. She again rudely stated "No!" Then there was silence and she said "not until the week of..." That's is just horrible for your person who answers your calls to be so rude. If there was a zero star rating I would give them one. The service here has been going down over the years. The receptionist schedules appointments wrongly. When you ask for Dr.Tchaga you get a newbie doctor. During cleaning, the helper actually had me do the flossing myself. This is just a glimpse; my mothers stories are horrifying. They did a root canal for one teeth and told her to get it done for a couple of others which were perfectly healthy. My mom had to eat liquid food (mashed up in a mixer) for the next two months until she could afford another doctor (she doesn't have insurance). We were one step from suing, but just decided to leave it at a yelp review. The reason why I'm even leaving this is the lack of customer service I received when I called in to reschedule my appointment. Apparently they can call me right before my appointment and move me back a week later, but when I call them to reschedule, suddenly there's a $10 fee? I don't think so. I thought they were good for a while but I continued to have tooth pain and sensitivity and they gave me a very uncomfortable mouthguard that I couldn't sleep with. I ended up going to tranquility dental and was SO glad I left star dental. This place definitely does not have the latest technology. They try to save patients money, but it can be at the expense of your dental health and you'll need to pay more in the end. If you can afford to avoid this place you should. read more
