An oasis in the desert of covid. Winco has a huge selection at the best prices. With lockdown again upon us (and right before Christmas!) it's time to load up and stock the pantry and freezer. Fortunately, the hours haven't yet been affected so I'm masking up and going in the middle of the night. The stocking crew is filling everything so I park my cart at the end of the aisle and walk down. You can't beat them for quality meats and produce (and I even managed to pick up a few Chistmas treats and gifts for pets!) Thank you essential workers for keeping us fed and supplied!! I don't really don't know who's more GETTO or TRASHY? the employees or some of the customers! This was most definitely the last time I spent my money at this place. Wasn't my first bad experience but I kept going to this place because I didn't wanted to judge the whole business based on my first experience, but they did it again and this time even better. I don't know if the treatment I get is based on my ethnicity or my skin color but I don't discard the possibility. It's a long story but I was lied about when I did requests to speak to the store manager "Rust" and I was told he was busy (Corrie) but at later time when I called trying to reach up to him I found out he wasn't at the store the whole day (Jessica). At the time of this review I'm waiting for the Corporate Office to get back to me and find out the real truth about how much they do care about their customers. Thank God we have FoodMaxx and Other options where they do "for sure" appreciate who's bringing their paychecks. Last but to least, don't even bother to file a complaint with the corporate office cause they are the same or even worse and they wouldn't give one "F" about your complaint. read more

Probably my personal favorite grocery store. I drive from out of town to shop here most times. The selection is good and the prices are great! They don't have everything you might find at a large grocery store but they have more than enough for the average person. I come here just for food really. Their non food items like toiletries, laundry soap, etc aren't such a bargain. I generally spend about $200 per trip. That gets me a fairly full shopping cart with enough change to hit their pizza bar on the way out for snack and soda. Good prices on that too. My only wish was that it was kept a little cleaner. It's busy and I get that but it can be a mess at times in here. It's not uncommon to have things out of place or even on the floor. They could clean that up for sure. It's worth it for the savings though. read more

Just about everyone and their slappy granny knows I'm a WinCo Fanboy. So much so that if I had produced a male heir, he'd likely be named Winn Co M. But alas I'm gay as a goose so that ain't gonna happen. However what really isn't happening is any love for the Modesto WinCo; being as much as my two stars are mostly 'hangover' stars given on credit to Modesto by all the other positive WinCo experiences. So...it's like 'What wrong with you WinCo? Your name not LoseCo...Shape the #%&@ Up!' TIME: It's 4:20 am (yeah, it really is) on May 30th...Memorial Day weekend. The place is all but deserted and that was pretty much expected. So one might think - if one truly has capacity to think - that the store would have long recovered from the previous rush days of Thursday and Friday. No. It hasn't. Not by a long shot. FURY ROAD: First of all, dude can barely rub his basket down the aisles what with the obstacle course thrown down haphazard and all Mad Max Tuna Helper style by the stocking crew. Don't get me wrong, I KNOW that they have a job to do and I don't expect it to be perfect. But every other Winco has a good balance between the needs of shopper and stocker. Modesto's got the balance of a fat dude goin solo on a teeter-totter. Prices are slightly higher than in Roseville and Sac locations. Why? It's MODESTO people. It ain't like this is the Galleria of the Central Valley. TWO BASKETS GO OUT NONE COME IN: Store is kind of dirty. And poorly laid out in comparison to other locations. The parking lot? Well that's just storage for every cart that once had a home inside...seriously they are EVERYWHERE. Maybe waiting for rain to get them clean?..... OH WHAT A DAY....WHAT A LOVELY DAY: ......Or perhaps the blower dude just enjoys blowing parking lot funk onto them because that's exactly what he did while I was loading the truck with my month worth of WinCo. Seriously, the blower guy is all the way at the other end of a mostly empty parking lot (except for baskets, creepy guys riding around on bikes and me) yet finds this the time to start blowing crap all uphill right up to my rig like he already KNEW this review was toast and didn't want to be bothered with typing a strongly worded rebuke. So in addition to the dust and Modesto funk, I just LOVE being ear-raped by a backpack blower sending its shrill notes of animosity drilling into my eardrums. At 4:21 am. Kind of just takes the pop right out of your tart. Maybe next time they could add a truck mounted nuclear powered pressure washer and horn section to really make the experience for the other ear. The one that isn't ringing. But there won't be a next time. I'll drive to Roseville once every OTHER month before coming to this Modesto Mess again. Ugh. Sooo disappointing. I suspect you would need a lifetime to inspect all of what this store has to offer. A friend and I went for the bulk candies and nuts and they are quite inexpensive compared to bagged or boxed items elsewhere. There is a risk that someone has tampered with them since they're more-or-less out in the open, covered or not. The store was crazy busy on an early Sunday evening. Checkout lines were long. As soon as we got to a self checkout, it was easy enough to get the register to calculate the price by weight and code. Don't you love how bags or no bags complicates everything now? There were at least 2 minor headaches trying to convince the machine that we didn't need a bag and the item was in the proper place. With a look to the person watching self checkouts, it was rectified and we were able to finish paying and leave. read more

I love the store since they're way better stocked than foodmaxx but my problem was with the cashier. I checked my receipt for her name it's Pamela(old lady). I went with my parents. My dad and I were packing the food and my mom told the cashier we'll be getting two bags but Pamela didn't seem to believe us and she kept turning to see us pick and not just her head it was a whole body movement. She kept doing that throughout the whole exchange. The white guy packing next to us wasn't getting the same treatment. It made us feel super uncomfortable as if we were doing something wrong which we weren't. I ended up scooting the cart over to see what her problem was. That's when she calmed down and looked over only once more when we left. Won't be walking up to her station again. read more

Jim at winco an elderly guy working the self service was incredibly rude to a select few customers and I was just a by stander. Not only was he rude to the customers but also the the manager on the floor, stating "this is a headache if you want to deal with it you can stay here" The issue came up when 2 ladies shared a cart for their groceries... they were wanting to have minimal contact due to the corona virus and they wore gloves and masks to protect them selves. Jim decided to stop the 2 self service areas that they were using so they could not complete their checkout, causing the lines to back up and telling the ladies it's their fault. The altercation made me uncomfortable and unfortunately I wasn't able to catch the manager's name but he handled it very well and I appreciate his fairness to both the customer's and the employees, he treated everyone with respect and did his best to get the lines moving again. I am a fan for when I have to purchase a big quantity of stuff like cereal, fruits and veggies and milk and juice. I do not purchase my meat here though. I find the selection of meats not of the highest quality. I prefer fancier cuts of meats. I usually go to Save mart or costco for my meat and bread. I like the 'grind your own peanut butter and almond butter' ....talk about fresh fresh fresh!!!!!!!! Definately don't go during that 'certain time of the month'.... it will be crowded with people hoarding bologna, milk, pork and ground beef in their carts and assorted candied cereals... I have some serious concerns about shopping at winco. There is no limit on how many people can shop at one time. I was shopping last week and the store was packed all aisles were packed. No one is enforcing mask requirements. I do not feel safe. Prices are great compared to other stores but not worth catching covid19. read more

I was down helping my parents and shopped at Winco in Victorville and it was a complete joke. Thank you for your dedication and service to the community Modesto. It's been my favorite place to stock up since it opened in Stockton. Now I go to Modesto and wish there were more. I love the bulk items best, so cheap without packaging. I was surprised that I still had a big variety to choose from during COVID-19. Smart idea to put large and small amounts into containers for safety. Love brands that I can't find elsewhere too. Nice pizza and freeze drinks. Love the $4 fresh microwave dinners at the deli. Tasty cuts of meat also. Veggie and fruits always fresh too. Bakery. I have shopped at Winco on and off for years and was upset at the lack of caution by store by the number of employees not utilizing masks, or face shields, something! To make it safe for them and us. I understand the mask debate amongst shoppers is another thing and it is unfortunate that shoppers cannot respect others by wearing masks when in stores. But I get that the store cannot necessarily control this. However, they can assure that their employees are. I contacted Winco about that and nothing came of it. It is still the same. So unfortunate. Went today early am, the parking lot was disgusting! The garbage can were over flowing with trash on the ground, trash all over the place, all shopping carts all over the parking lot. Here is what really angered me!! We parked near some garbage that had an empty in-out cup filled with piss my husband barely missed kicking it over on to his brand new shoes. So gross and discussing. If you can't figure out that they have every ingredient to make fine quality food then your just dumb. The only reason this place does not get five stars is because there are some damn scary folks in there. And like others, I do not recommend going around the 1st of the month. Better to go towards the middle and end of the month when everyone's EBT cards have run out and they can't buy their kool-aid. If you go during the week in the morning the meth heads are not awake yet and there won't be too many other people shopping. Aside from the ghettoness this place is great. CHEAP food. I feed six people on one income, and they eat a lot. I usually get things here that are either overpriced at Costco or items from their bulk bins. I love the whole wheat products in bulk, the fresh honey, and assorted spices. It's all so cheap! And if you like to cook from scratch this is the place to get a lot of good ingredients. Some of their deli meats are good. The italian roast beef and the rotisserie turkey breast...anything else looks a little over processed but most stores are like that anyway! I don't usually buy other meats here, I find Costco has better quality for what you pay. Pantry items are good. Even a lot of their organic items like the mac and cheese, pancake mixes, cereals that cost SOOOO much more at other places because they are organic are affordable here. Frozen items are good and cheap as well. The bakery has some good bagels! The rolls are good too. I just find that you want to use everything pretty quickly or it goes bad, but that's not usually a problem at my house. I also buy a lot of household items such as laundry detergent and paper towels here. Way better deals then I have found anywhere else! read more

This place has been a favorite of mine since it opened. It's in the old Costco building, so for those who complain about how ginormous it is, that's why. It used to be a Costco. That said, it's got awesome prices on just about everything and good, fresh food. The bulk section is impressive and the store is consistently clean. I usually go early in the morning because I hate crowds and avoid it altogether around the first of the month. Some things will always be better at Costco or Raley's, but for a good, all around grocery store, this place is hard to beat. read more

Yes, we're that kind of couple...we can be spontaneous for a drive here/there *tee-hee*. GROCERY STORE: I felt like Tony The Tiger, this grocery store is greeeat! Indeed comparable to CostCo, Foodmaxx, & Walmart w/ its own personality. This place seems most interesting to me w/ the assortment of coffee beans, grains, dry pastas, honey. In all those I listed, WinCo has dispensers for these items...& many dispensers! Select your coffee bean/grain from damn there 50 varieties; select your grain from wild rice, rice pilaf, jasmine rice, jasmine brown rice, cuoscuos, & more; select pastas from ling, angel hair, bowties, & more; select ur honey from 3 boxes & take their big bold sign seriously ("Do not open lid as you may let the bees out"..wtf!). Levers, bags, & scales all to help ya! Large array of everything else like a grocery store & walmart w/ food, toiletrees, bakery, meat/seafood/deli; only thing I didn't see was floral area. This place is BY FAR the cheapest in town, and it's stocked really well, clean, open 24/7 and friggin HUGE. They have an excellent produce section and lots of fresh/ethnic food. It feels good to shop at a store that is employee-owned, local, and is not exploiting Chinese toddlers to make items for 3 cents a day. *Note Do NOT go there near the 1st or 15th of any month due to EBT card disbursement unless you want to people-watch an obese family with 5 screaming kids and 2 carts of processed food check out. The parking lot is a bit dark at night and there are "bike bums" abound. I've never had a problem because I look like Chewbacca without the hair, but ladies take note. For reals, DO NOT GO HERE DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF THE MONTH! It's a fricken madhouse of eft cards and government checks galore! When else do you see people rolling 3 carts deep? Pine nuts are so expensive here. But atleast its in bulk. :) been going here since a lil girl beacuse its open 24/7 . prices are good for the averave grocery shopping family. Non organic food here. OM Stars! This place rocks! Granted that it reminds you of Walmart but the prices of produce here is unreal. EVERYTHING in this huge store is at the price of sale items that you wait for at the grocery stores. Packs of 36 cup of noodles is $3.50. Bags of lettuce $1. Dried banana chips are .76 cents a lb. Pork blade .98lb. Need I say more??? They only accept cash or ATM but this place is the packed with good stuff! They also have fresh baked bagels and bread everyday. 2 dozen for $2.20 :D Cool! read more
