Billy is amazing he is by far the best kayak dealer I've dealt with in NorCal and I've been kayaking for over 7 years. Super friendly and hard working, he knows kayaks and rigging kayaks well. He has helped with multiple warranty and rigging issues and does so efficiently. Many dealers will just sell you a boat and tell you to figure it out he helps you along the way with various issues relating to fish finders or things breaking on your boat. He has a good selection of kayaks at his shop Hobies, Natives and a lot of accessories. Billy is the man and wish I met him earlier when I first started kayaking. When I buy my next kayak it will be from him. His prices are fair and he knows what he is doing and been in the industry a long time. read more

Glad this place is around... just got a new (used) Hobie PA 12 as a gift and needed to replace the battery that powers the Lowrance Hook 5 fishfinder that came with it. I brought the battery and charger down to Wind Toys and took pictures of the connection itself, just incase it wasnt a bad battery and that I was just an idiot and missing something. I think John was the one helping me, he tested both the battery and charger for me and determined that it was indeed dead. Hooked me up with a new lithium battery setup and explained exactly how to connect the new wiring, turned out great! ive already recommended this spot to several friends of mine, now that I have a fishing kayak they are all interested as well. read more

My highest recommendations! I bought a Hobie Getaway from Wind Toys and they were always super friendly, honest, and informative. I was new to catamarans, trailering, mast stepping, and rigging so I was a little overwhelmed, but Billy was really knowledgeable and patient and did a great job helping me figure everything out. Making the decision to invest in such a large purchase is definitely a nerve racking process. Fortunately I found the staff at wind toys to be extremely low pressure and have an emense amount of product knowledge which helps a person like myself to calm down and make the right decision. After checking out many other retailers (as far as Sparks NV) I found myself pleasantly surprised by wind toys. Their pricing is very competitive, AND THEY ARE LOCAL!. I bought a Kayak from Wind toys and felt like I was doing the owner a favor just to keep the business local. Other places prices are much better for the same product but since I wanted to keep the business local, I paid an extra $175 more at Wind Toys for the same Kayak the others were offering. The second time withing 4 months, I tried buying another kayak at the same price and John (the owner) wouldn't do the same deal. In fact, it was the end of summer and prices should be dropping but instead he was going to increase his price. The other locations I checked were over $225 cheaper than Wind Toys and from this point forward, I will not do business with Wind Toys other than hoping they will honor their warranty on the Kayak I purchased from him already (I will let you know should that come up). I get the feeling its all about the $ instead of taking care of local customers. Its a shame I have to travel out of town to buy a Hobie Kayak. Out of curiosity, I thought I'd check Yelp to see if Wind Toys in Santa Rosa has the same owner as when I last visited there. Apparently they do. Sometime back, I Dropped by there to see what they had to offer. There weren't any sales reps. about, so I wandered around their yard to see what might be available. After spotting one boat, that seemed to be under repair, I found my way to the office. The owner, sat behind his desk, while several others stood around. When I inquired about that particular boat, the owner came unglued. He went on a tirade, which seemed to embarrass the others that were present, as well as shocking myself, that the boat in question was off limits!!!! He was so furious, that it seemed best to walk away. The owner's attitude toward a potential customer, as well as how he represented his enterprise, pushed my business away for good. Since then, I've bought and sold quite a few boats, but NEVER will I do business there. read more

We recently purchased two Mirage kayaks from Wind Toys. They were so incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I have never experienced such amazing customer service before, from anywhere. Andy helped us figure out what we were looking for, assessing our needs and matching us each to our own kayaks. We are so happy with our purchases: Hobie Pro Angler 14 for my partner and a Hobie Outback for me. There were no high pressure sales tactics at all. As a matter of fact, they recommended NOT to buy certain accessories right now. Clearly, making money is not their primary focus. OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE is. I cannot recommend Wind Toys enough. We like the boat we bought just fine, but the store owner had offered us a specific demo boat with brand new equipment on it - showed it to us in fact -- and later swapped out some of the new equipment he had shown us for used equipment. During our negotiations he told us a certain piece of equipment was $500, which we then suggested he keep so we could afford the rest of the rig and stay within our budget. But he ended up keeping that piece of equipment, PLUS the brand new seats and oars he had shown us, and gave us all used equipment instead. He knew we really wanted to get this boat and that timing was of the essence, and at the moment it seemed like this was reasonable, but we later felt that he had somehow miscalculated because deducting only the $500 piece of equipment should have been enough to bring us within budget and allow us to get the boat with the remaining new equipment. When I called him on it a few days later, he hemmed and hawed and finally said he "lost less money" by deducting only the wholesale price (which he didn't disclose) instead of deducting the $500 he had quoted to us. Unfortunately, he didn't tell us what he was doing at the time and we trusted him, walking out of there with used seats and oars that were not the ones he had originally shown us. All in all, the transaction left a bad impression and I wouldn't go there again. During my follow up phone call he did offer to swap out one of the used oars he sent us home with for one of the new ones he had originally shown us, but it's not worth it to drive all the way back to Santa Rosa for that. Would have been better if he had offered to exchange the used seats and oars for the new ones he showed us on the boat in the first place. read more

My husband and I initially contacted Wind Toys in the spring of 2012. We had been wanting to buy kayaks for some time. John, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable about kayaks and he took us out one Saturday to try a bunch of kayaks. He was very good at explaining the pros and cons of each boat. My girlfriend surprised me with a new PA 14 kayak for my birthday. The owner even delivered to our home in Novato because she couldn't sneak the truck away to pick it up. I walked into my garage after work to a terrific kayak from a terrific lady. We went back to wind toys to buy her Outback 2 weeks later and were greeted with a professional, no pressure sales attitude. They even gave me a break on some of the first accessories I purchased. I talked to the owner last thursday. We made an appointment for the following tuesday for me to look at 2 kayaks which were on sale. We were very clear that they would call me if the kayaks sold so i would not drive 3 hrs for nothing. They did not call so i left 8 am tuesday morning. I called from my car at 10 am and was told the kayaks had sold saturday. The owner appologized but did not offer any deal. All that driving and a wasted day. My wife and I came in to just "look around" with the intent of heading over to the local REI to make our purchase. Marty helped us in the beginning and was great. He was very patient with all our questions, and we never felt pressured or rushed to make a decision. At 65, buying a kayak for the first time is very intimidating. At least it was until I went to Wind Toys in Santa Rosa. The owner, John has been amazingly patient. He takes the time to answer every question each time I call or visit and I've been there often enough over three months to witness this same professionalism with every person that comes in the door. He treats people as individuals and acts more interested in educating others so they can make the best decision for themselves. He doesn't rush people into a quick sale that may be wrong for them. I've seen people come in and be treated more like friends and I experienced the same thing. He shows sincere interest in helping people. Today after a full day of work, John offered to bring two kayaks so I could test ride each of them at no charge. I haven't bought a kayak yet but I know this is where I will do that and send anyone I know who is thinking about one. To me, five stars isn't enough for this man and his business. read more

We bought our Hobie kayaks from John 3 years ago. He told us then that we would get free tune ups and he has not let us down. We just took our kayaks recently for their annual tune ups and a faulty rudder. John and his crew not only repaired the rudder, cleaned the kayaks, they also replaced a part on our peddles. The grand total for all this work? Under $8.00. They also helped us load them onto the truck. John and his crew stand by their work and we would recommend their business to anyone. read more
