When I tried to shower in the morning it was ice cold and never warmed up. I wanted a to-go coffee in the morning on the way to the park, but the coffee was lukewarm at best. Also, the outdoor trash cans were overflowing and the door to get inside was jammed multiple times. None of these were ideal when you're lugging around a lot of stuff and only have two hands. The hotel is surprisingly big with an indoor pool, a game room with multiple pool tables, and a few dedicated seating areas. They often get elk walking around the hotel, too. When I checked in, the gentleman who took care of me was extremely polite and helpful. I can't stress that enough! For close to $300/night it's hard to justify. Most things could've been better. It provided me with a clean, warm bed and at the end of the day, that's all a person can ask for.

And the service is going to be a little bit slow and disorganized, typical to Estes Park. And that's the worst of it... Once you've accepted what you cannot change, sit back and enjoy a drink and sit on the patio for amazing views and a yummy dinner. I had their bloody Mary which was good and unique stuffed with olives lemon lime and... A SlimJim! Unique. We ordered the wild game sausages for a starter and they were huge and filling in after that we reconsidered our menu options because we were stuffed. One large pheasant and one large Elk sausage arrived served with hot sauerkraut which was pretty yummy and very German. For dinner we decided to split the ribeye and double the order of asparagus. It was completely sufficient for two people. Two hungry people. The ribeye needed a little bit of salt and pepper but was cooked perfectly and was simple and delicious, the potatoes were amazing and the Asparagus was great. At the end of the meal, the touch that got the extra star up there was that was a little man in a golf cart who drove us to our car on the very steep slope. Nice touch of class!

More than reasonably priced, especially in the Rocky Mountain National Park area; where there are lots of either overly pricy or questionably renovated properties (if not both). Further, if you book during a peak time in which AmEx and Rakuten promotions align, while having Gold or above status with Expedia, the value goes through the roof. I would have nothing negative to say about the property either way, but that the price is as attractive as it is, only serves to really reinforce stayability for every party, for every occasion. Breakfast is small but complimentary and was not expected. They have hard-boiled eggs for the health nutty traveler; which, if you plan to eat out anyways to maximize trying local offerings, as I tend to do, is still beneficial in that restaurants rarely give enough protein or protein per carb/fat. Not a mutually exclusive breakfast, it is a great supplement for the fitness enthusiast who all-too-often is belabored by inadequate nutrition while traveling. There are certain aspects of the rooms which may be a bit dated, but if observed closely, you will notice that it's a work in progress; I have no doubt the owner and staff are doing a great job, and they likely acquired the property in worse condition. That is not to say that there are certain elements of the property which are in good to excellent / above grade condition. Given all the above, I say this simply as mention rather than as detriment; to inform the audience rather than critique or offset the value consideration of a stay. Still superb. Lastly, on the occasion I visited, I was blessed to see a herd of elk outside of my balcony the morning I woke up. My pictures do not adequately capture the size and splendor of the herd. It was lovely and something I will never forget. Their vocalizations are interesting - you will see what I mean, should you encounter them. Conclusion: Recommended with high confidence.

That flexibility alone made it stand out, and I'm glad we stayed here for our quick trip. The location is excellent within walking distance of the main town area, restaurants, and shops. If you prefer not to walk, one of the free shuttles stops just down the road, making it easy to get around. The lodge has a cozy mountain feel and offers several relaxing outdoor spaces to relax, including fire pit seating by the lake and a gazebo. There's also a kids' play area, which is great for families. Behind the lodge is a golf course (separate from the property), making this a convenient option for anyone planning to golf during their stay. I am usually very picky when it comes to hotels because I typically prefer nicer resorts with more updated accommodations. However, for a quick one-night trip, Discovery Lodge absolutely did the job. My biggest hotel pet peeve is cleanliness, and as long as a room is clean and feels clean, I'm happy. My room was clean and equipped with everything I needed, including a TV, microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, coffee, and cups. The room itself was definitely older and somewhat outdated but the property has made an effort to add more modern touches with updated wall art and convenient amenities. While it wasn't luxurious, it was comfortable, clean, and functional. If you're looking for a glamorous or high-end resort experience, this probably isn't the place for you. We were awakened at 6:00am with ceiling noise from people walking into breakfast area above. Speaking of breakfast, the dining room/lobby was filthy and poorly supplied. Pretty much all food gone at 8:00am and no coffee. When I asked the front desk gal about coffee she barely looked up from her cell phone long enough to say "it's gone". Dirty tables and filthy counters with empty cream cheese containers that flies enjoyed. Came back to room for a cold shower because the hot water worked only in the sink and not the shower. I think it was because the faucet handle was poorly installed. Front desk said we would get a partial refund, but that never happened. We strongly recommend not staying at this place. It doesn't have any hooks for the towels or hand towels... The balconies overlooking the river are nice (but there are many, many places to stay along the creek that are updated and clean looking). The pool is a nice touch but it's old and looks like someone DIY-ed years ago. The vending machine didn't work with any of my bills when my very pregnant body needed a bottle of water. I popped in to check out the continental breakfast and walked out with only a tea. Just a bunch of cheap, sugary products (donettes, nutrigrain bars, hostess danishes). And I thought we were getting a great rate so it was worth staying at this older place but the very nice 3 star hotel yards away is the same price!! Like it's *fine*. Bathroom sink didn't drain, found hair on the sink. After flushing toilet, it would continue to run. The bed was too soft and hurt our backs. The back of our place faced a busy road. Lots of noise between the walls with the neighbors next door and kids running and screaming outside. Also, their internet was sooo SLOW. If you are coming here to do any work, forget it. We had terrible service most of the time. Wasn't able to use any apps like Netflix, Disney + etc. Pretty old school TV's. For the price we paid, it wasn't worthy of the rate and I wished we had gone somewhere else for a great couple experience.
