A wonderful place for our anniversary dinner this weekend! We are always greeted with a smile when we walk in to Twin Owls Steakhouse. We got there a little before our reservation time and had a chance to sit at the bar for a pre dinner cocktail. Thad was behind the bar last night and was so welcoming and nice to talk to. I had the Paloma which was tart and refreshing. We were seated at a table by one of the big windows overlooking Estes Park. The views are always beautiful and sometimes you get lucky and get to see some wildlife. Our server was fabulous, I wish I could remember her name. She explained the menu, told us about the specials and wished us happy anniversary. We started with the smoked salmon crostini. Crisp crostini with lemon caper whipped cream cheese and smoked salmon, topped with fresh raspberries and micro greens. So delicious! For dinner we shared the 22oz porterhouse special. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We added the chimichurri sauce and had asparagus as the side. For dessert I had the carrot cake and my husband had the house made cheesecake cake, yummy. Key to the experience was to be the first in line when they opened. First seating put us in the northeast corner with 180 degree views of the valleys and mountains. Not our first visit, we enjoyed the filet mignon and prime rib prepared exactly to request. The bacon wrapped (large!) scallops were a wonderful appetizer as well. Our waiter Serhii was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and engaging. We'll hope to have him again on our next visit. read more

We have been loyal customers of this steakhouse for years and have recommended it to many guests staying at our rental property. Unfortunately, after this experience, we can no longer recommend it. After placing our order, we waited a full hour for our food. Two of us ordered the prime rib--an 8 oz and a 10 oz--both requested medium rare. When our meals finally arrived, both pieces were well done. We sent them back because the temperature was clearly incorrect. The replacement prime rib was even more disappointing. Both pieces came back noticeably thinner--about half the thickness of what we were originally served--and were extremely tough. It certainly appeared that the kitchen was trying to make one remaining piece of prime rib work for both orders. During our visit, our server even had to return to a nearby table to ask them to choose something else because the restaurant had run out of prime rib, which only reinforced that impression. We were dining with a group and didn't want to create an uncomfortable scene by sending the food back a second time, so we let it go. Later that evening, I called the restaurant and spoke with the person identifying himself as the manager/bartender. He said he knew nothing about the incident but would pass my concerns along to the owner and assured me someone would contact me. I explained that if I didn't hear back, I would leave an honest review. No one ever followed up. Mistakes happen, and we understand that. What is most disappointing is the lack of accountability and communication afterward. We also paid for 8 oz and 10 oz prime rib portions that the replacement meals clearly did not resemble. Charging customers for larger portions while serving significantly smaller ones is unacceptable. After years of supporting this restaurant and sending business their way, this experience has been incredibly disappointing. We won't be returning, and unfortunately, we can no longer recommend it to our guests or others looking for a quality steakhouse. read more

We came to celebrate our anniversary and were extremely disappointed. We had a party of 8, part of the people enjoyed their food. However, my wife and I shared the dry aged ribeye special with an add-on lobster tail. The ribeye was extremely rare yet was ordered medium rare. Beyond disappointing for a $75 steak that in all reality was worth $0. We have enjoyed our meals here the last few years as our nice dinner out, but will never return after this experience. We have come to Twin Owels with our extended family over the last 3 years. It had always been a good experience until last night. We called ahead and made a 7:00 reservation for 16 people. We were told that we could not be seated together due to the restaurant being full but were ok with being placed at 2 separate tables. When we were seated it was strange that we couldn't sit together when 1/2 of the tables in our section (the main dining without the amazing view) were empty. Drinks, and appetizers came out quickly. They were very good and we were excited to get to or meal. That's when service came to a halt. An hour and 1/2 into our dinner there was still no food. The kids are getting restless and we are having to take them outside to round around as to not bother other guests. An hour and 45 min into service they brought out the 5 kids meals. The butter noodles were not cooked all the way through (still crunchy) and had to be sent back. At 9:00 ( 2 hours into service and only 1 other table still in the restaurant) the adult's meals came out. 9 steaks were ordered and all but 1 were cold. Only 2 were cooked to the correct temperature the rest were undertone. The braised short ribs were cold along with the hamburger. We were assured that everything had just come off the grill but but due to there being 11 adult meals that's just what happens. All the sides were hot so they may have cooked the meat first. I'm not sure. The manager who was the bartender and had been watching us wait for food for 2 hours came over and offered to remake steaks and give us free dessert. At this point we were exhausted and just wanted to go home so we boxed up 2 steaks that were inedible and left. They did comp 3 steaks (one we canceled and the 2 remakes) along with waiving gratuity (that we still paid). It was an awful experience all around. Chain steakhouses cook better steaks than we got at this "high end establishment". Over $1,000 for cold/ undercooked meals that took 2 hours to come out is crazy. read more

On our way up to the restaurant, I thought I was seeing a luxury home still decorated for the holidays. Beautiful warm white lights twinkled from massive windows overlooking the forested area of Estes Park. To my delight, it was the restaurant! Once inside it was warm and inviting, both from the ambiance and the staff. My husband and I were seated at the perfect table by the gorgeous fireplace. I could go on and on. Okie, our server, perfect. Cocktails and wine, perfect. Meal, outstanding (Pasta Alfredo and Scallops for me, Steak for my husband), again, perfect. Then, a not so normal indulgence of dessert (carrot cake), perfect. Whether it's a special getaway, a vacation, or if you're fortunate enough to be a local, don't miss out on Twin Owls Steakhouse. Not to compare, but our usual restaurant in Estes is the Cascades, which is excellent. However, hands down, we have new go to for dinner. read more

My party of two made a reservation for 7:15 PM to see the sunset but realized that sunset was actually a few minutes before 7. So, we showed up around 6:30 PM to see if we could be seated earlier, and the host was very accommodating. We took a seat near the windows, and the outside view was spectacular. By the time we sat down, the mountains were already dark, and we missed the sunset, but it was very nice regardless. One of the reasons we wanted to dine at Twin Owls was to try elk meat. We started off with elk kabobs and French onion soup. The marinade on the elk kabobs was very good, and the meat was so juicy--much better than I had originally expected. The meat reminded me of Korean bird. The French onion soup was also very good; I really liked it because it was a little more watery compared to what I've had at other places. Then we ordered the elk sirloin and the Twin Owls burger with goat cheese. The burger was really good with the goat cheese, but I particularly liked the fingerling fries as a replacement for ordinary French fries. We ordered the elk steak medium-well, just in case it might have a weird odor, but the steak was marinated in a way that it had absolutely no odor, and the meat was very juicy and tender, despite having little visible fat content like beef. We also had two different locally crafted beers, which were great as well. Out of all the dining experiences I had in Denver and Estes Park, Twin Owls definitely topped the list, and I'd love to come back on my next trip to try their bison steak. read more

The steak were perfectly cooked and the sides were outstanding. We got the Chocolate Toffee Mousse cake which was delicious! Very rich. The only thing we both had to critique was the steak seasoning or lack there of. The sent out a house steak sauce but any steak should not need a sauce simple seasonings will allow a steak to stand alone. Salt pepper garlic onion etc are enough and will allow the meat flavor to come though. The steak here excellent cuts and were pretty much able to be fork cut so the quality of the meat is not an issue. This is just my opinion by no means a slam. First ones came out cold and the waitress-who was very good-offered to get a fresh one. Coagulated Twin Owls bearnaise sauce squeezed out of a cake decorator in spurts on a cold steak and that was after sending it back. Reheated prime rib that appeared several days old. AuGratin potatoes reheated but not near hot and likely cooked a week or two prior to our meal. The crème brûlée was passable. The wine was good. This restaurant is stunning! The views are to die for. That being said, the food was average/good. Our server Luis was professional and friendly, he also had good timing in terms of when to stop back at the table, etc. I am gluten free and he was also very knowledgeable about that. I had a ribeye which was just fine, cooked as I ordered. My side dishes were mashed potatoes (one large tablespoon for $7) and roasted Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were huge, like radioactive/cartoon looking huge! Some were halved and they were served with shave Parmesan. I wish there had been a sauce or glaze or some type of moisture applied to them. A huge bowl was served as a side dish and they were hard to eat due to their size and dryness. My husband ordered the filet done "medium". It arrived at the table pretty much raw, simply seared on the outside and cooked just a bit all around. Our server returned it to the kitchen and it was brought back cooked further, but still a disappointment that a restaurant of this level could not cook a filet as ordered. His potatoes were more generous and his asparagus side dish was very good. We enjoyed a bottle of Cab/Franc from Colorado as well as dessert. My crème brûlée was very standard but the only gluten free option. My hubby had the New York cheesecake which he loved. Luis/the kitchen paced the meal well. For the price of the food at this "steakhouse", I was completely unimpressed. The prices are equivalent to Denver steakhouses but not the experience or quality of food. After being seated and ordered, all the food including our starters all came out at once. Very surprising. The food was more inline of an Outback. The coconut shrimp tasted like it was frozen instead of hand battered and the braised short ribs was over cooked and dry. The crab chowder had little crab. My husband arrived at the restaurant a little early on purpose to see the bar and menu. Upon arrival the hostess was very pleasant and welcoming to us. Afterwards I table was ready and we met with the hostess and she walked us to our table. The waitress was nice but it took sometime to greet us and take out order. We started with the scallops, they were ok, but the bacon around the scallops was chewy and not cooked all the way. My husband ordered the bacon/cheese soup which was amazing!!! We then ordered the 7oz filet and my husband ordered the steak. The food was very good, the scallop potatoes needed to be cooked a little longer. They were kinda hard to eat due to the thickness of the potato and being undercooked. We of course ordered dessert! This was our first disappointing meal in Estes Park. We have visited several times and were looking forward to this experience. For starters, the hostesses (there were two) told us we would have to wait a few min to be seated. They told the party ahead of us the same thing. The restaurant was empty around 5:30pm. Our server was very kind and attentive. Any and all stars go to Daniel! The coconut shrimp appetizer was so overcooked it was hard to eat. The tuna tartare appetizer tasted like freezer burn. The spinach and beet salad was the only good dish we experienced. The $45 pasta with 3 sea scallops was underwhelming but fine. It felt like a mediocre cruise ship buffet - salty/ cooked a few hours ago then nuked. The bison tomahawk was okay. We were excited to leave. The manager did comp us 20% off but let me know that was his portion of earnings which felt like an unnecessary emotional ploy. We still tipped well as our waiter was great but we basically burned $200 tonight. Big thanks to the hostess, Katie (sp?), for hooking us up with one of said tables, complete with a Happy Anniversary bouquet. Our server, Vicki, was also a delight. She brought us two generous tastes of the Pinot Noir they offer by the glass since we weren't familiar with it and it was just delicious. Done. A bottle of that, please and thank you! I didn't take any photos of our food, but they serve some of the best French onion soup I've ever had. It's one of my favorites and I couldn't say how many different cups of this classic soup that I've tried over the years, but this was just fabulous. The broth was so rich and tasty and the bread and cheese was just perfect. YUM! I had a wedge salad with added elk medallions and the hubby had the elk sirloin with au gratin potatoes on the side. Both were excellent, although my wedge could have used just a little more dressing. We split a creme brûlée for dessert and that was the only disappointment.
