While staying in Navarre, my friends, wife and I visited the bar and the dining area three times during the past 2-weeks. We enjoyed the food and drinks and service provided by Angie was the tops. She was pleasant, attentive and efficient. Loved my fried grouper while my wife had fish tacos and friend enjoyed his blackened grouper. Potato salad was excellent in taste and texture. Beers and the house wine were cold. All in all, we will return back again next week before heading back home to Ohio. read more

Located on the larger pier in the Gulf. Me and my family stopped for lunch while we waited for our room to get ready. The service was great. It was busy but we were seated right away. The server was super nice and had recommendations. The kids burger was good and large. My son and I got the grilled Red Fish Po Boy. Just note the grilled red fish was pretty spicy but had good flavor. I'm not sure I'd want to taste it blacked and I like spicy. The pasta salad was good. My parents got the fish tacos. Responsibility is an area we frequently miss when discussing food, yet it is of paramount importance. With Windjammers, the responsibility is for the coastline environment where it happens to sit. The amount of single use plastic used is substantial, resulting in an issue that generates garbage throughout the vicinity of the restaurant that does not get picked up. Thus, to maintain Navarre in the state of beauty is a conscious effort, that needs to have a better focus. Replace single use styrofoam cups with reusable ones or at least recycled paper, get rid of infinite plastic sauce bowls and lids, replace plastic straws with paper ones or eliminate entirely, serve beer as much as possible in chilled mugs and initiate efforts by staff to clean the surrounding area daily. The current ways just cannot continue and the restaurant unfortunately causes more damage than pleasure given it's unique location. As far as the meal, Windjammers is a very respectable place for fresh seafood, with spectacular preparations of fried oysters, local fish and shrimp. Simple and delicious. As a matter of fact, the batter used for oysters is some of the best to be had. The salads either need improvement or to be removed from the menu. The beers on draft compliment the easy flow of life in Navarre. Folks working here are extremely kind. There are a few odd rules, such as not allowing people to come in barefoot from the beach, which is a bit odd considering the location and extremely casual nature of the establishment. It was also strange that during a recent visit, the restaurant allowed a group of maintenance workers to drill and do roof work during the busiest time of the day, creating a lot of drilling noise and adversely impacting the experience. People come here for fresh air and enjoyment, not to spend the entire meal listening to drilling that should have been done during hours when the restaurant is closed. In worst case scenario that drilling had to be done at that time, which is unlikely, they could have at least told visitors to expect very loud noise before being seated. Despite the points above, Windjammers is a pleasant place with a Florida atmosphere and a lot of potential. With the right management, it could certainly fix some of the ongoing issues quickly and become a better steward of the area where is is located. read more

Loved the beach/water view and casual atmosphere! People were friendly and happy to serve! When I'm at the beach, I order fish tacos 90% of the time and these did not disappoint!! Asked what the fish of the day was and our luck it was Mahi!!! So tacos, sandwiches and all salads were Mahi today! The tacos were good because they were simple. Huge chunk of fish, tiny bit of slaw and fresh salsa!! I like to taste the fish!! No heavy sauces to cover it up. Came with fries which here these curled wedge type things! Yum! I just love going to this bar on the beach. The food isn't the very best but you really can't beat the access, thee awesome staff and the drinks and the food is still good enough for beach food. The review is heavily based on the service vs. the environment and food. Cute spot on the beach with a beach bar vibe. The food wasn't bad. The menu is very small now but the mahi tacos were decent. They mahi wasn't really "blackened" but was still good. The gator bites were good just a very small portion for the $18 price point. The service is where I was greatly disappointed. I used to work in the service industry and have a lot of patience for slow service. However, it took our waitress almost 20 minutes to come to our table upon initially sitting down. The drinks took around 20 minutes as well. You would think being sat directly next to the bar, it would've been a quicker endeavor. The food also took around 20 minutes, which is typical. They cleared our table but the waitress took an additional 30 minutes to cash us out after seeing me, card in hand, waiting for her. The bartender was also unprofessional to my boyfriend and some other fellow patrons after overhearing them comment about the slow service. Slamming his drink on the bar once it was made. I am advocate for being patient with a busy restaurant. However it was not packed when we were there, with multiple open tables. I stumbled upon this restaurant on my first solo trip to the Destin area. I was instantly attracted to the huge public parking lot and the clean public restrooms to change into my bathing suit! There is a huge pier here. It is a great spot to watch local fishermen catch some fish or gaze out into the ocean to look for dolphins-- and maybe even a shark or two! The first time I've visited this area, I did not stop and eat. I made a mental note to come back, if I were looking for a place to sit next to the ocean and grab some food. When I return to Destin a few months later, I took my mom and grandma to this local spot. I would give the food and overall three stars, but the view is easily a 4 1/2, five star review! We were starving, so at that point, anything would have sounded delicious... So we decided to feel the wind in our hair and salt on our face, as we sat and ate by the ocean. The food was really greasy. It tasted amazing going down, but soon after, my stomach rebelled. I'm not used to greasy food, so it did not sit well--However, the tater tot's were delicious!! If you're looking for a place to have a meal Oceanside, I'd recommend this place. They have a wonderful outside seating area, as well as a place at for the kids. They also have volleyball courts underneath their seating area. It's a great place to play in the ocean, walk the pier, and then grab some grub. With only a couple options nearby we decided to have dinner here, mistake! We're we're sat on cheap lawn furniture, weren't about to order drinks for 8 minutes, when the server returned with the drinks we ordered because we were concerned if we didn't we wouldn't see him for some time. (In all fairness the hostesses did seat him with 3 parties back to back so I can understand his struggle, but the hostesses need training.) The calamari's breading crumbled off, the carne taco had large dried chunks, the shrimp tacos were ordered grilled but clearly cooked sauté style. (We've had better shrimp tacos in Chicago, sad day for a restaurant on the water.) Karaoke is cool except when it's drunk people screaming and stomping. (Half were drunk.) Came here on a weekday afternoon, it was moderately busy. We had some wings, tots and fried pickles. Honestly the food was 10/10. We got naked wings with sauce on the side and that was the way to go. Had two meals here while on vacation that were both good. Blackened grouper sandwich was on special one day and it was phenomenal. My wife and I were having some drinks and split this sandwich and it was plenty for the both of us for lunch. They struggled a little bit at dinner when we went back due to staff issues I think, but that's just the way of the world for now I guess. We waited by having drinks (again) and once we were seated our dinner service and food was good. It's a fun place with karaoke a couple of nights that the kids are allowed to participate in as well. My second favorite place to eat in Navarre! Practically sitting on the beach with great food, drinks, and views. I truly love it here and I could spend all day here. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Just a short walk next door from Summer Wind vacation rentals. I ordered the taco trio but ended up with 4 different ones. My original order was the Mahi-mahi, steak, and chicken but they threw in a shrimp for no extra charge. They were all great but the mahi-mahi was my absolute favorite I could eat them everyday if I had the chance. For sure a great place to eat while visiting Navarre. read more

This is what I would consider a typical beach side restaurant. It has an open outdoorsy feel to it and they do have curtains that they can close off the elements depending on the weather. Everything was open when I visited as it was a nice warm spring day. I didn't know how busy it was going to be so I joined the waitlist on Yelp prior to arriving and when I got there my table was ready and waiting. We didn't have to wait long for our server to come take our drink orders. They have your typical bar type beverages with a few signature cocktails. There was a drink called the bushwacker that I decided to get because Martin my server really talked it up and said it was kind of a big deal around here. In a matter of minutes I had a boozy chocolaty milkshake concoction in front of me. It was good but I honestly don't know that I would get it again. I prefer more of a light fruity cocktail and this was a pretty heavy creamy drink. The food menu is extremely sparse. Before we went I was looking at menu pictures and apparently a lot has changed because there was literally one side of the menu with drinks and the other side with what few appetizers and entrees they offer. I was pretty disappointed that there wasn't a kids menu but the place really doesn't seem overly fitting for kids. It had the feel of a more "we are on the beach drinking and need to get some quick food to eat" type of place. They have loud music playing in the bar area and overall was a noisy bustling with activity place. Lots of foot traffic of people going from the parking lot out to the beach which I thought was a little off putting. Call me old fashioned but I'm not really a fan of seeing scantily clad folks with bare feet walking past my table but I do get it, it's a beach front establishment. Our food was ok, nothing I'd be craving and just HAVE to come back for. I got my kids the grouper basket to share and it came with 3 decent sized pieces of fish and a large portion of waffle fries. I ended up with the blackened shrimp tacos and they came with waffle fries as well. The kids really liked their fish. The fries? Well what can you really do to mess them up? They were typical waffle fries, hot crispy and filling. Nothing to write home about. The shrimp tacos were pretty good. The gulf shrimp were huge and there were 3 in each taco along with some coleslaw, scant amount of pico and some spicy sauce. The kids each ate a shrimp and really liked them. I've had a lot of fish and shrimp tacos in my life and these were not bad. Martin our server was very nice and attentive and I really appreciated his interaction with my kids, we don't get that everywhere we go. Overall this is an ok place to try if you are out but we will be looking for more places to try that hopefully will have a more extensive menu with more seafood options. Make sure you go thru the gift shop and pay your dollar to walk out onto the pier before you leave. It's a pretty cool little trek and fun for the kids. read more

My husband and I were there yesterday and got 4 coastal margarita's with patron. The bar charged us for the coastal margarita added an additional charge for the patron, which we knew there would be an up charge. Then they added a grand marnier float and the bill was just at $68.00 before tax and tip. $17.00 per margarita in a 16oz plastic cup with ice. My husband also had to wait at the bar to get our drinks. There was 3 bartenders working but 2 were most of the time just standing around talking. To us that was very high and we will never be going there again for an afternoon drink. I am glad we did not get any food as the bill would have been over $100.00 for two of us. Stopped today and loved the changes to the property. I ordered a Tequila Sunrise and could not even finish it. Something strange about the Orange juice and they must have used the crappiest alcohol they could find. I don't think that such a simple cocktail would be so hard to make.
